Speaker 1 (00:05):
The most famous bell this side of Philly has resided
here in Whitehall. For the last three years, Montague has
made the short trip across the Causeway Bridge to try
and reclaim it. The Wildcats and Vikings playing for the
one hundred and eighteenth time, and it's the Lake Short
game of the Week tonight on one oh seven m us
the moves, the winner gets the bell. I'm Jason Hutting
alongside Tom Kendra and Tom. Doesn't get much better than

(00:27):
two small town neighboring rivals playing for a trophy.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I'm not sure you could ask for much more.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Jay, this is my favorite rivalry in the entire area.
We've got a lot of them, geographic rivalries. There's Shelby
versus Heart, There's a Fruitport versus Spring Lake, all sorts
of different games, but this one, it just seems perfect
to me. I mean, you look out there. You see
the red of Whitehall and the blue a Montague and
two communities that are fairly friendly rivals. I mean, I

(00:56):
think it's heated a little bit, but you know, Monau
leads the all time series, but in recent years Whitehall
is dominated. But now a lot of those Whitehall players
that were such a big part of those great teams
I'm talking about Kyle Stratton, Trannon Naylor, Kamar Ready, they're
not here anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Mona.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
You comes in here tonight thinking, hey, maybe this is
the year we can get that bell back.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
And it's the annual Pinkout game.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
These two rivals have gotten get together to raise money
in the fight against cancer. All proceeds going to Hope Scarves.
Whether the game's at Montague or it's at Whitehall, it
is the pink Out game. So a big crowd already
filing in twenty five minutes before kickoff, a lot of
them wearing pink. Let's look at Montague. They lost their
season open into Four Sills Easternmber. They bounced back with

(01:41):
consecutive wins that gew is two and oh with River
Jarka in the lineup. He was suspended for that Forest
Hills Eastern game from getting ejected from a playoff game
last year. Time, what kind of impact should we expect
from him tonight?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Well, River Jarka is one of the most exciting players
in the area. Jason undersized. He's only five to seven.
That's actually tall, for say, compared to the if you
look at Fletch Hooman five to five for Montague. These
are little guys, but River Jerco very exciting. They starts
off in the slot, but he's played quarterback, wildcat type situation.

(02:14):
He comes in tonight as I think maybe the hottest
runner in West Michigan.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
In the second half of that win.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Over Orchard or Oakridge, he had one hundred and thirty
four yards in the second half of that game, and
then last week against Archard View one hundred and sixty
one yards. So Whitehall is going to be focused definitely
on River Jarco.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah, the old saying not the size of the dog
in the fight, but the fight and the dog and
those smaller and stature Muntau players certainly have some fight
in him. On the other side, Whitehall, they have a
pretty special player of their own, Cam Thompson. He's thrown
it this year, he's ran it, he's caught it, and
he does plenty more. What do we need to see
from number twelve tonight for the Vikings, Well.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Cam Thompson, he obviously has the size at six ' five,
just a special athlete. I mean, if you've ever seen
him play basketball, you know he he was a d
one kid. He's committed to Western Michigan University, apparently for
football and basketball, which I find very interesting. They're looking
to use him at receiver, but you know Tony Sigmuan here,

(03:12):
he has him at quarterback and so.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Far mixed reviews.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
You know, he's one and two, obviously a very tough
schedule to start things out, but you know, I'm impressed
with the accuracy thirty of thirty seven on the year.
That's eighty one percent for four hundred and ninety two
yards five touchdowns. He's thrown some picks, but he's obviously
a dynamic player and Montague has to find a way
to keep him in check.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
This is the Alasco Services pregame show. Alasco Services Plumbing, drain,
HVAC experts at your service. Alasco has unsurpassed customer service
since nineteen ninety nine. The right team to handle residential
or commercial plumbing and HVAC needs called two three, one, six, seven,
four eleven seventy six to request a same day appointment

(03:57):
in the Muskegan area. We'll still to come. We'll have
Tonight's Keys to the ballgame, plus the coaches quarter interview
with Montagus, Justin Dennett and when we come back, we'll
take a look around the lake shore at some of
the other key games happening tonight. This is the LMCU
Lake Shore Game of the Week between Montague and Whitehall
and one oh seven m us the Moose. This is
the last go serves this pregame show. Where are counting

(04:18):
down to kickoff between Montague and Whitehall the annual rivalry
battle for the Bell. Both teams perfect in West Michigan
Conference Lakes Division play Montague at two and Oho and
Whitehall at one and Oh. Jason Utt alongside Tom Kender
about seventeen minutes away from kick Tom. Let's take a
look at some other games going on tonight around the

(04:39):
lake Shore, and none bigger than the game that'll be
airing over on nine to six to one. The game
with Brett Pikita and Buck Gino three and Oh Byron
Center at three and oh Mona Shores. How's that for
an Okay Green Conference opener.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
That's a great matchup.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
I think it's the power of Mona Shores with Jonathan
Pittman and Mike Stewart, just a brutal one two punch
power both power runners against the a passing game of
Byron Center and Land and Tongate. I think that's a
great matchup. From that standpoint, it's if Mona Shors secondary.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
I think it's gonna be the key to that game.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
If they're able to lock in and defend those receivers
for Byron Center. I think that power running game will
be enough for Mona Shores to win the game.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
I think most people have Rockferds the number one team
in West Michigan, but certainly Byron Center and Mona Shores
are pretty much in everybody's top four at the very
least I have them two and three should be a
great game. Staying the okay, greenow abut Forestill's Northern Meschig
and the Big Reds didn't play last week, they don't
have a win.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
How do they respond tonight.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Well, that'll be interesting. I think that's gonna be a
game to watch. Forest Hill's Northern very much improved, almost
pulled out that win against forest hilld Central last week.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
We'll see what Muskegan does.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
You know, everyone talks about how last year they started
out oh one two and then won twelve in a row.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
But of course last year they had seven.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Three years starters, a bunch of Great Seniors. A different
Moskegan team, things certainly won't come as easy for them.
I think Muskigan needs to get off to a good
start in that game. If they don't, that game could
be a dog fight.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Griannar but Junion Aree Puffer rounds out the Okay greenplay.
We saw the Rockets getting the win column last week
with the win over spring Lake About okay Red Caledonia
at Grand Haven.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Don't look now, but the Bucks are two and one.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
They won last week over West Ottawa at open conference
play and here come the fighting Scott's limping in after
the lost He's cent with last week.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, great win last week for Andrew beaden Bender and
Grand Haven. You know they felt like they gave one
away against Traverse City West at home and but they responded.
He came back and beat his mentor you might say
Pat Collins at West Ottawa and so grand Haven they
really feel like playing at home again tonight. Got if

(06:51):
they could get to three and one. When was the
last time Grand Haven was three and one in football?
I think got to go back a long ways.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Be interesting when them our Lake Shore the spotlight game
of the week. John Arter is out at Muskegan Catholic
Central's the one and two Crusaders host one and two Fruitport.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
How about the Bird bowls Zealand East at Zealand.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
West, the Chicks are an eighty yard miracle in the
final thirty seconds away from being three and oh. The
Ducks have been dominant, but here at Whitehall winning last week,
they did lose quarterback Trace Slowtalk early in the second quarter.
He did not return. Have not heard his status for
tonight's game. We look around the West Michigan Conference. We
have Montague and Whitehall here, but Orchard View is at Man.

(07:31):
Steve Fremont is out a conference tonight against Grant and
oak Ridge is hosting Luddington and the Rivers Division North
Muskegans at hisperio, both teams two and one. Shelby's Aravenna
Hart is at Kent City. I really like that matchup.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Tom.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
I saw your picks this week. You said that might
be the toughest one to predict. That's a non conference
game as well. Lake Views at White Cloud in a
game I really like Nowego at Tri County, the old
rivalry battle in the Central States. Both teams come in
three and zero this season. This is the last co
services pregame show. We're getting ready for Montague and Whitehall

(08:05):
still come. We're gonna go one on one with Montague
head coach Justin Dinnett. That's when we returned. This is
the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on one
oh seven. M us the Moose, Jason Utton and Tom
Kendrick getting ready for the annual battle for the Bell.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
It's Montague and Whitehall.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
We're just over eleven minutes away from kickoff in week
four the high school football season. It's a beautiful evening
for football here on the Lake Shore. And each and
every week our Coaches Corner segment is brought to you
us by Factory Surplus Sales located in Montague, where you
can get brand name clothing at a budget price. Earlier
this week, I had a chance to talk with fourth
year Wildcats head coach Justin Dennet as his team got

(08:45):
ready for this big rivalry. Showed out all right, So
it's time for the Factory Surplus Sales Coaches Corner.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
We've got monagu head coach Justin Dennett here.

Speaker 6 (08:53):
Coach.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Tough start with Forrest's Eastern Week one, but you've bounced
back with two straight wins. How do you feel about
the way you guys have progressed since the game of
the season.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
Yeah, that was that was kind of an eye opener
for us.

Speaker 7 (09:03):
You know, they're a really good football team, a little
bit bigger school than us, and so we knew it
was going to be a challenge.

Speaker 6 (09:08):
But I do think it kind of prepared us for
our tough schedule coming up.

Speaker 7 (09:11):
And so seeing Oakridge week two after playing Eastern, you know,
it wasn't such a shock.

Speaker 6 (09:16):
You know, we had already seen that size and athleticism, so.

Speaker 7 (09:20):
I think it prepared us for that, and we were
able to bounce back and responded well in that Oakridge game,
our defense played really well. And then last week against
Orchard View, you know, our offense kind of came alive,
and our defense.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
Still played great and had forced four turnovers in that
game as well.

Speaker 7 (09:34):
So yeah, it was it was good to see that
we didn't really get rattled after that tough Week one.

Speaker 6 (09:39):
We were able to respond and come back with two wins.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Like any team, you're gonna lean on guys that have
experienced and played a lot of football for you, and
River jarcis one of those.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
To get him back the last two weeks. What difference
does he make?

Speaker 7 (09:51):
Yeah, he's a game changer for us on both sides
of the ball. You know, last year he led our
team in tackles. He's been starting for us on defense
since he was a sophomore, and now we lost all
of our skill players from last year and so he's
really taken over that role on offense as kind of our.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
Go to guy.

Speaker 7 (10:06):
So we've been playing them at quarterback the last two weeks,
but he can kind of move around and play some
slot receiver for us and running back. So yeah, it's
it's been huge to have him back and he's he's
a difference.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
Maker for us.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
We've also seen Eli Peterson play some quarterback for you
as well. He's an outstanding athlete. How do you feel
about the way that's working and do you want to
ultimately get to one or do you like playing both?

Speaker 6 (10:27):
I kind of like where we're at with both of them.
They're very different kids.

Speaker 7 (10:31):
You know, Eli's more of your traditional pocket passer and
River is the.

Speaker 6 (10:35):
Runner, but he can still throw it too, and so
I like where we're at.

Speaker 7 (10:39):
We're gonna we're gonna mix in both of them, and
you know that allows River to play other positions as
well and kind of give defenses more to think about
and plan for. So I think we're gonna keep rolling
with that, and maybe as the season shakes out, one
guy will step out and stand out in front of
the other. But right now, I like, I like where
both of them are at, So we're just gonna keep
mixing it up.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
By now you have fourth year, you're kind of familiar
now with this White Hall rivalry. Just how do you
best sum it up when people ask you about this robbery?

Speaker 7 (11:08):
Yeah, it's crazy when when you come to the town
and the area, it's really one community, you know, the
White Lake community.

Speaker 6 (11:17):
Just the bridge separates.

Speaker 7 (11:18):
You, and if you're in mind of You, you got
to go to White Hall for a lot of stuff.
And if you're in white Hall, you're coming over to
Mining you once in a while. So it's really just
one big community. The kids grow up playing against each
other since they're, you know, in first grade, and they
all know each other.

Speaker 6 (11:32):
So it's a really unique situation and just one of.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
Those awesome high school football or high school sport rivalries.
And both communities do a good job of supporting the
teams and getting behind them, and.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Of course the Red, white and Blue belt is on the line.
They've had it for a few years. How much of
a motivating factor is that for your team to try
to get it back?

Speaker 6 (11:49):
It's big.

Speaker 7 (11:50):
Yeah, our guys hate not having it, and yeah it's
been three in a row and so our guys want
to get it back this year for sure.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
And when you talk about white Hall, obviously they've been
very good for several years now. And go to Cam
Thompson at quarterback, just what kind of element does he
bring in? How do you guys try to contain him
a little bit?

Speaker 7 (12:05):
Yeah, he's an incredible athlete. You know, he's a D
one basketball and football kid. So that that tells you
right there how good of an athlete he is. He's
he's tough to prepare for because he can run so
well and he throws it well enough that you know
they can do things in the passing game too. So
it's similar to last year with Stratton, but you know,
he's he's a lot different kid. He's, you know, the bigger,

(12:26):
really good athlete. Stratton was a little bit smaller and
shiftier maybe, but you know it'll be it'll be pretty
similar honestly, you know, they're both just dynamic players, so
tough to prepare, prepare for. But we've we've had to
do it the last couple of seasons, so I think
our defense will be up for it.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
Most important things for your team to come up with
a victor on Friday night.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
We got to be able to continue to run the ball.

Speaker 7 (12:48):
We ran the ball well against Oak Ridge and then
really well against the Orchard View, and we got to
do it again.

Speaker 6 (12:53):
You know, I want to be a little more balanced
and be able to throw up more. We we haven't really.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
Needed to, but I think if our offensive line we
can kind of control the line of scrimmage, that's gonna
give us a really good shot. And then on defense,
the last two weeks, we forced four turnovers both weeks,
and so if we can force some turnovers again, and
you know, come up with some interceptions or force fumbles,
I think that's gonna be a game changer and give
us an advantage there.

Speaker 5 (13:16):
Appreciate your time, coach, Good luck tonight.

Speaker 6 (13:18):
Awesome, Thank you.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
We'll have more on the lastco services pregame shows. We
count down to kickoff in the Lake Short game of
the week, it's Montague in Whitehall.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
We'll be back right after this.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Boy. The bell is gone in waves.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
In this rivalry, Whitehall dominated it in the nineties. Montague
came back and won eighteen out of the first twenty
in the twenty first century, but it's been Whitehalled. It's
one at the last three years, the Vikings winning sixty
to six in twenty twenty two and then last year
thirty five to nothing. We expect a much closer game tonight.
That's why it is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of

(13:50):
the Week. Jason Hutton and Tom Kendra getting ready for
the annual battle for the Bell and his time to
take a look at the keys to tonight's contest. Vanderlin
Home Improvement exists the Keys to the Contest. With eighty
years in the business, Vanderloin Home Improvement offers top notch
contractor services to customers in West Michigan. Called six one

(14:13):
details or visit Vanderlins dot com. Some interesting things to
get into for this game tonight between Whitehally Montague, but
we'll do that right after tonight's national anthem. Excellent job

(15:36):
and night's National anthem done by the Whitehall Marching Band.
Dress tonight in black and pink as it is Pink
Out night, as is the tradition for the annual Montague
Whitehall rivalry game, with all proceeds going to Hope Scarves
in the fight against cancer. Well Tom Kendra, interesting matchup tonight.
Whitehall comes in one and two, but they've lost the
two outstanding teams and Undie Christian and Zealand West Modu

(15:59):
comes into one. They lost to force those Eastern week
one bit of bounce back with two.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Straight from wins.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Let's start with a visiting Montague Wildcats. What's a key
to victory for them tonight?

Speaker 3 (16:07):
I think Montague has to get off to a good start, Jason.
That's obviously after last year's game against Whitehall they got
beat thirty five to nothing, so they didn't have anything
going at all, only one hundred and eight yards of
offense in that game. For Montague, I think it's important
for them to get off to that good start.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
And also interesting Whitehall.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
You know they lost that game last week against Zeeland West,
but they had a great second half. They scored I
think thirty six points something like that in the second half.
So Whitehall comes in flying high a little bit, even
though they're one and two. I think it's important again
for that reason, for Montague to get off to a
good start in this game. Maybe take a little of
that momentum away for me.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Montague's got a force turnovers. They forced four turnovers in
week two against oak Ridge, and tonight they got a
forced turnovers a tournament of points. They did not score
any points off those turnovers, still won.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
The game in week two.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
So you they got a force turnovers and they got
a tournament into something.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
How about Whitehall, Yeah, that plays right into mind.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
What Whitehall has to do is hold onto the ball,
because that Moned you more than any other team ever
since Pat Collins has been there. They know how to
tear the ball away. And Carrie hargerfer Oakridge said that's
what they did in that game in that huge win
Monedu Overroad Cordage. So Whitehall needs to hold onto the
ball for me.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
Whitehall needs to play four quarters. They had the bad
quarter in week one of lost Unity. I'll score twenty
two and a half, then they lose by twenty two.
Last week they fall down thirty six to the midway
through the second quarter. They end up losing by seventeen,
so they got to play four quarters and not have
a lull.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
The Vikings have won the toss and defer to the
second half.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Cam Thompson has kicked the ball off and Kellen Francis
returning it for the U as he brings it back
out to about the twenty eight yard line where the
Wildcats will go to work. And it looks like we're
going to see River Jarka at quarterback. We know that
both he Andy Lipet Peterson will play quarterback tonight. The
junior Fletcher Thoman is in at running back.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
He's junior.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
The wide receivers are Tallon Degan, Kellen Francis, and number
eleven Dylan Bailey. First and ten for the Wildcats just
underway on their own twenty eight yard line, first possession
of the game, and on first down, Jarka will hand
it to Thoman who's right up the middle and he's
got a nice chunk maybe seven yards give him eight

(18:21):
out to the thirty six yard line. He's running behind
a big offensive line left tackle junior Logan Hanson, left guard,
junior Isaac French, center junior Maverick Osbourne, senior right guard
David Myers and junior right tackle Elijah Eilers. Senior Riley
Moulder is the tight end. But eight yards on first
down for the gu Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Fletch Tolman just a little guy. He's hard to spot
when he has the ball. Before you knew it, he
was eight yards down the field.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
So second down and two, Jarko fakes the give to Thoman.
Now he's gonna throw out to the left and the
pass is incomplete, intended for Dylan Bailey.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
It'll be third down and short.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Wow, that was a beautifully design play. He had a
Taylor Degan was wide open there out in the flat
and he just I don't know if the sun was
in his eyes or what just went through his hands.
And it's gonna bring up a third down.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Check that Whitehall defense. Senior number fifty two Jack Ambrose
is on the nose. The defensive ends are junior Cordy Anderson,
number ten and senior number seventy two. Connor nash Brock
morning Star is senior number twenty four, and Gavin Craner
a senior number four. Of the outside linebackers. Inside linebackers
number twenty two, Ryan Goodrich and number three Nate Betts,

(19:31):
a senior filling in for Parker Mott, and on third
down it's the Jew, it's the sophomore Devlen Dean going
around the right side. He is into Whitehall territory and
he would move the chains mark him down at the
forty five of Whitehall, but it's nineteen yards for.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
The g Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Devlin Dean, he's kind of emerged this year in three games.
Everyone knew fer Montague River Jarka was gonna be there,
They knew Fletch Tolman was gonna be there. But Devlin
Dean he's played great in all three game and a
big third down run there.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
One hundred and fifty excuse me, one hundred and fifty
two yards and three touchdowns last week in the win
over orchard View for Dean. Now it's back to Thoeman
who's off left tackle and boy coach Dennett said he
wanted to run the balltime six more yards on first down.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
The Wildcats are running the ball.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Yeah, great job there by the left side of that line,
Logan Hansen over there, Isaac French is the guard. But
this is what Montague does, is what they.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
Want to do. Whitehall, you know they're a little more balanced,
we'll say.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
On offense, Montague wants to pound the rock and so far,
so good.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Eighty one.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Elijah Pendell is playing tight end for Montague. He's out
there on the right side, which is the short side
of the field. Here, Jark is in the shotgun. He's
got Devlyn Dean with him. He's got trips to the
wide side left, and Jark's gonna run right up the middle.
He's gonna be hit by Ryan Goodrich and he might
have got a yard. But Ryan Goodrich, outstanding player number
twenty two for Whitehall, there to bring him down.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Yeah, great play by good Rich.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
You know his father is Dave Goodrich, a longtime softball
coach and teacher and assistant football coach here at Whitehall.
But Jay, I'm just looking out here. What a great
scene here looking across the way at Montagu. A lot
of blue also a lot of pink for the Special
Cancer a fundraiser tonight. But look at all the gu
fans on the hill over there. They're excited for tonight's game.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Would expect nothing last for Montague and Whitehall always well attended,
no different tonight. A lot of pink in the stands
and on third and three, it's Jarker right up the middle.
He did not get the first down, he got to
the thirty six. He's going to be about a yard
shy of it into the game. Caden Boyer, the junior
led to charge for Whitehall, and they're gonna spot him
at the thirty seven.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
It'll be fourth and two.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Wow, first huge play of the game right here, Jay.
On that last play, it was a broken play that
time Jarco went to hand it off, there was nobody there,
so he just had to take it up the middle.
And now let's see what happens here on fourth down.
If the Mona you can continue to dominate up front.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Check that Whitehall secondary number nine, Cody Manzo is playing corner.
Senior Abram Stout is out, so Manzo, the junior number
nine is at one corner, Junior Hunter Osboren number one
at the other. The safeties are Blake English number five,
a senior, and Cam Thompson, a senior number twelve. So
fourth and two. Montague going for it. Dean an Thoman
next to Jarka. But we've got a whistle and a

(22:19):
fall start on Montague. That'll back them up five and
make it fourth and seventh time, you know, very interesting.
Last week Zeeland West with a fourth and fi and
four in Whitehall territory. I read about this spot in
the field went hard count Whitehall jumped off sides, gave
them a first down. Zealand West ended up scoring on
that drive and kind of running out to a big lead.
This time it works the opposite way for Viking fans

(22:41):
as Montague goes backwards.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Yeah, that was a terrible time for that because now
fourth and two very gettable, much higher percentage fourth and
seven and wonder if they got to go to the
air here.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Jark is still in a shotgun. We have not seen
Eli Patterson. Jark are gonna roll left. Jarko's gonna tuck
it run and he's not gonna get there. He's not
down at about the thirty six or thirty seven. He
needed the thirty five. It's gonna be Whitehall ball. Looked
like Blake English led the charge for the Vikings. Who
will force the turnover on downs?

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Yeah, and again the whole key to that was the penalty.
Those penalties will kill you, especially in a fourth and two,
fourth and two, he picks that up easily for fourth
and seven. River Jerco one yard short, so a huge
stop by the Whitehall defense.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
So they spotted at the thirty seven and now we'll
see Cam Thompson and his offense on the field for
the first time. They scored thirty six points in the
second half last week against theald West. Is gonna try
to keep that momentum rolling. Osborne goes in motion from
the slot, but to give us to Gavin Craner up
right tackle craters into Montague territory and flips down to

(23:55):
the forty six yard line. Seventeen yards for Craner. This
senior on first down.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
Wow, a nice little inside trap played a Creener and
he got into the secondary submarine there by Jack Degan.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
But a great first play there. For the Vikings, we'll
see a lot of Ryan Goodrich are running back tonight.
He and Craner will rotate and on first down on
the jet sweep to give his to Hahunter. Osbourne able
to turn the corner and get about four down to
the forty one yard line before Dylan Bailey drove him
out of bounds. So we'll see both Craner and Goodrich
are running back. Is good Rich checks in for this

(24:30):
second down play, with no Abram Stout, who normally starts
at slot. Blake English moves inside to slot from his
receiver spot, and number two cole Essenbaggers will start at
the wide receiver position. Also, Cordey Anderson starts a wide
receiver and Hunter Osbourne at a slot. On second down,
Thompson gonna roll right. He's gonna throw for Osborne out

(24:52):
of his reach at the white Hall excuse me, at
the mont of you thirty. It'll be third down for
the Vikings, who up front will go seven to senior
Connor Nash at left tackle, fifty two, senior Jack Ambrose
at left guard, junior number seventy five, Jamison Jeffrey at center,
Junior number seventy seven. Jacob alger Is at right guard,

(25:14):
filling in for Parker Motts. The start at right guard
and inside linebacker in a boot on crutches on the
sideline for Whitehall and their right tackle is Peyton Austin
fort number seventy a senior, and on third down, the
gift goes to Goodrich running right.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
He's got a first down. He turns the corner at
the thirty five.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
He's inside the thirty and finally knocked out of bounds
at about the twenty eight yard line, but it's thirteen
yards in Whitehall moves the chains.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Wow that time.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
That was a big third down play and there was
just nobody there on the left side of that Montague defense.
This white Hall, their receivers really block well and there
was some stock blocking there. They crashed down, really cleared
out that whole right side, and Ryan Goodrich had plenty
of room, just rumbled easily for the first down.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Brock morning Star, the senior outside linebackers checked in in
an h back for Whitehall. He doesn't play a ton
of offense. Here's the give to Craner on first down.
Cranter running through a tackle inside the twenty yard line.
He's got eight more on first down. You know Tom
Craner a starter at running back on varsity as a
sophomore at Belding High School. Two years ago he moves
over here to Whitehall State championship wrestler and didn't play

(26:22):
football last year. But here he is as a senior,
and he's made a big impact on both sides of
the ball this year.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Yes he has, and in this game especially. You know,
he doesn't have the big stats that jump out at you,
but I like the way he runs the ball, and
I like his vision once he gets up to the line,
if he sees a hole, he goes for it.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Whitehall in the red zone second and two in the
nineteen and they're going to keep it with Craner, but
this time he's wrapped up and dropped for a loss.
Great play by fifty two Isaac French, the junior who
plays defensive end, and it'll be third down for Whitehall.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
Yeah, obviously we got a big play here. They're approaching
the red zone right at the twe yard line, four
down territory. So Montague's defense, you know, Whitehall's defense came
up big.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Let's see if Montague can answer.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
French and junior Elijah Eilers are the defensive ends. Maverick Osborne,
a junior at nose tackle. We'll also see a lot
of David Myers at nose tackle, who's in there on
third down as Whitehall gives it to Hunter Osborne, who's
got a first down inside the fifteen yard line before
Elers brings them down, but Whitehall continues to move the
ball inside the Montague fifteen yard line.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Kind Of an interesting play there. Hunter Osborne on the
sweet play. It looked like Montague strung it out well,
but nobody came up and delivered the hit, and Hunter
Osborne was able to pick his way through for the
first down, no score.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Opening quarter were under six minutes to play.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Whitehall with their first possession, first and ten on the
Montague fourteen camp Thompson gonna run. It avoids a defender
of the backfield and now cuts it back to the left.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
He's into the end zones. Camden Thompson fourteen yards for
the score, and the confetti.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Flies in Whitehall as the Vikings jump on the board
first six minutes and fifteen seconds into the contest there.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
And the pink confetti is in the air. It's falling
on the desk here. But four tackling there by Montague.
They had I think three four chances to get cam
Thompson and he was able to elude them all. Fourteen
yard run and it's the red of Whitehall striking first.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
So number three Nate bets into attempt the extra point
out of the hold of Thompson. Good pass from center,
hold is down, the kick is up and it.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Is no good.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
The extra point no good. So Whitehall leads it six
to nothing. With five forty five to play in the
first quarter, we'll step aside comeback with the kickoff. This
is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the week.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
One oh seven m us to move.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Is to do everything, Cam Thompson and has the home
team on the board first white hole, leading Monitu six
to nothing. After these senior quarterbacks fourteen yard touchdown run,
Thompson now going to place the football on the tee
and kick it deep as Kellen Francis and Dylan Bailey
go back deep to receive a reminder that touchdown is
another fifty dollars for Kids' food Basket. LMCU pledging fifty

(29:23):
dollars Kids Food Basket for every touchdown score in each
of the high school football.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Games of the week.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
On one O seven of the Moose and ninety six
won the game. We want to get other people involved.
Please go to the websites what Radio dot com, one
of seven, mus dot com, ninety six one the game
dot com, and you can donate as well any amount
who's appreciated and leave us a note.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
We'll give you a shout out on the radio.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Montague returns to kick back to the twenty five yard line,
so the Wildcats will start there.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Tom. They ran the ball well in that first drive.
It was kind of that penalty that cost.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Him, Yes, it was, And I said one of the
keys to the game was a mon of you getting
off to a good start. Instead, it's Whitehall that jumps
out early to nothing really makes this drive important for Montague.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Still haven't seen Eli Peterson. It's Jarka and the gun.
He's gonna hand to Thoma right up the mill. He's
got a holies across the thirtieth. Thoman might have a
first down at the thirty five yard line, accent pushed
by that Wildcat offensive line, and hey will they'll.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
Move the chains first down Montague.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
Yeah, both of these offensive lines are doing a good job.
I thought Whitehall got good push on that drive of
their scoring drive, and Montague has as well. Like you said,
it was just the penalty that stopped him last time.
Let's see if that continues here, or if Whitehall is
able to maybe bring some more people up into the
box and dare Montague to throw the ball.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
So first and tend the thirty five. Jarka in the shotgun.
He's got Devlin Dean next to him, and Dean gets
to carry running.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Laughed avoids one tackle but not the next.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
He's gonna get maybe three. Look like Gavin Krainer made
the tackle.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
Spot off. It's a thirty nine. That would be a
four yard game.

Speaker 4 (30:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Devlin Dean another one of those little guys for Montague.

Speaker 4 (30:59):
He's only five, he's.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
A sophomore, but he runs hard and they have a
variety of different backs that they can use. The concern
with Montague's offenses can they throw the ball? You know,
if Whitehall really starts loading things up, you know, can
River Jerika, can Eli Peterson throw it just enough?

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Might be the key to this game.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
We've seen Jarka throw it once. It went incomplete. Second
and seven. Jarko running left, runs into a wall led
by Goodrich at the forty, stays inbounds at the forty one.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
It'll be up third down and four.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
We talked about Parker Mott being out of the game.
A couple of significant injuries for Whitehall in this game.
You know, Abram Stout a two way starter in the
slot and in the secondary. But Parker Mott, I think
is a huge loss linebacker him and Ryan Goodrich for
their inside linebacker duo. Mott is in street clothes on

(31:54):
crutches on the sideline. So couple big losses for the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
It was important to head Tony Siegmann to make the
schedule more difficult.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
He did that. But sometimes these are the things that
happen when.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
You play the powers like this, you get injured and
that those are some big losses.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Montague gonna run.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
They're a great point.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Jason Montague was gonna run the ball with Thoman and
get the first down. He's out to the forty eight
yard line, so big third down conversion for the Wildcats.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
Yeah, you mentioned that schedule that Whitehall played.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
You know, the last two years they were nine to
zero regular season, didn't do them a lot of good
in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
This year they're one and two hit.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
They could end up maybe six and three, seven and two,
but maybe better prepared for the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Francis Bailey and Tallon Degan split out trips to the
right and Montague is gonna go up the middle. Another
nice run into Whitehall territory at the forty five.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
That was Dean. Nice little balance here, a.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Little thunder and lightning with Devlyn Dean and fletched thom
And it's worked very well for mont of you gets
seven on first down.

Speaker 8 (32:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
Like I said, they've got a lot of potential ball carriers,
no question about that. River Jarka hasn't even had to
run it all all that much so far.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Second down and three and they run Thilma right up
the middle this time.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Nowhere to go.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Corday Anderson the first to get him. No gain at
the forty five.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
Yeah, that time they went to the well one too
many times, Jay and the and the middle of that
Whitehall defense was ready for him. And we're kind of
the same situation as the first drive for Monau, kind
of bogging down a little bit here, real important for
them to convert.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
So third down and three they scrimmaged from the white
Hall forty five yard line. Dylan Bailey in motion as
jark is in the shotgun. He's gonna run right behind
Thoma up the middle. He's got a first down. He's
inside the forty carrying tacklers inside the thirty five yard line.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
That's the playmaker. That is River Jarka. Not big as
you alluded to, Tom, but.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
That time running through defenders, it'll be first down at
the white Hall thirty three.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Great, vision there by river. Jarka there wasn't much room
there in the middle. He found just a little crew
and that's all it takes.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
You know.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
He's kind of like a Mackay guy, Brady Rose. Those
little guys they don't need much, but if they see
a little bit, they burst through it.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
And that's what Jarka did there.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Getting skinny, Bretbakeet always likes to say, and Jarky did
a good job of that. Devlin the carry on first down.
Ryan Goodrich just made another tackle maybe two yards for
Dean on first down. Ryan Goodrich is an impressive, pressive
football player.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
He is a tackling machine, great kid and yeah, without
his his buddy Parker mottin next to him, I expect
Ryan Goodrich to pile up double digit tackles in this one.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Clock is running inside two minutes to go. Opening quarter,
a minute thirty eight left to go. Whitehall leads Montague
six to nothing. The Wildcats a little more deliberate out
of the huddle. Whitehall going pretty quickly when they have
the football with no huddle.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Jarka had a little trouble with.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
The snap there, which was a little to his laugh,
and he runs into big Jack Ambrose at about the
thirty yard lines.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
So it's going to be third long.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
Yeah, I'm looking down on the white Hall sidelines.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
Keith Stratton, the long time a defensive coordinator for Whitehall.
His son Kyle, what a great player. He was here
for three year starter at quarterback and he's moved on.
But his dad, Keith Stratton, still running the defense, does
a great job, and right now he's hoping his his
team can dig in and stop another drive for third

(35:21):
down and seven.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
As we go to fifty five seconds to play opening quarter,
Jarcas sends the trips to the wide side rights, fakes
the gift to Thoeman, keeps it himself. He's got maybe three.
He's well short of the first down. Corday Anderson, the
defensive end, makes the tackle. It's gonna bring up a
fourth down situation for Montague.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
Here we go another fourth down. The last time they
had fourth and short, of course they had the motion penalty,
ended up being fourth and seven. Here we have about
somewhere in the middle there, fourth and four. Very interesting
to see what Justin Dennett calls here.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
Does he call a pass play?

Speaker 3 (35:56):
I have a feeling maybe River Jarka again seeing if
he can at the four yards.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
So fourth down and four, they will have to snap it.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
With twelve seconds to go in the opening quarter, fourth
and fourth from the twenty seventh Thoman next to Jarka
who drops the snap. Now he wants to throw complete
to Dylan Bailey inside the twenty. That'll be a first
down four Montague and you wanted to see River Jarka
throw it.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
He works there on a fourth down play.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Yeah, just a short little pass, but you know passes
don't have to be bombs down the field.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
That was just a short pass. Almost a disaster.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
There as he dropped the snap from center, but picked
it up, kept his composure, got it out there to
Dylan Bailey and they moved the.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
Chains, so he goes out of bounds with two seconds
to play. Opening quarters. So the final play in the
first twelve minutes comes here. On first and ten from
the white Hall twenty, Jarka Hansteth Thoemen, who runs left,
gets inside the twenty, might have got two before he's
brought down by Elijah Eilers, and that brings us to
the end of our first quarter of play at the
score Montagu six, Whitehall nothing. We'll return with more on

(37:00):
the LMCU Lake Short Game of the Week. Down one
oh seven, m us the moose, It's Whitehall six Monugu
nothing but the Wildcats aiming to change it. There's second
down and nine on the white Hall nineteen yard line
as we resume play at the start of the second quarter,
Jason Hutton along with Tom Kendra and on second down

(37:20):
Jark is gonna run it up the middle and doesn't
find much once again, Number twenty two, Ryan Goodrich in
on the stop jarka might have got a yard.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
It'll be third and long.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
And that's the biggest difference I see right now between
these two teams is, you know, Whitehall much more diverse offensively.
We're seeing Monagu basically ground oriented and Whitehall is really
starting to load the line, load the box, and it's
gonna get especially when you get down here into the
red zone, those yards get harder and harder to come by.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
So with Abram.

Speaker 1 (37:51):
Stout out with the injury, number five, Blake English has
moved from safety up to corner and cole Asenbaggers is
in at six and we're gonna have a whistle here
stopping this play before it gets started. Justin Dennett wants
to take a time out to discuss this third and
nine play from the nineteen yard line, and that'll give
us a chance to take a look at the Rapid

(38:13):
Radios scoreboard. Rapid Radios all season longer. Game reporters are
aided by the inteneous communication provided by Rapid Radios.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Rapid Radios provide a.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yeah, a couple of surprises at least early on here
Grand Haven two and one. They lead Caledonia eight to
nothing early the Bucks looking to move to three and
one on the season. And how about the spring Lake
Lakers at West Catholic. Spring Lake leads West Catholic seven
to nothing. Byron Zenter strikes first in the well, at

(38:57):
least what I have six to nothing, although over here
is zero zero, Maybe we should stay away from that one.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
Ravana thirteen shall.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
Be nothing and Muskegan Catholic Central seven, Fruitport nothing.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
It is six toughing Byron Center, you are correct. Also
just an update. Granville has just scored on a Tank
Terry touchdown run. Jennison still eats the Bulldogs though, fourteen twelve,
thirday nine, as we resumed play filming right up the middle,
he didn't get much maybe a yard. Looked like Jack
Ambrose was in there along with Gavin Craner. It's gonna
bring up another fourth down situation for Montague. Tom they

(39:29):
were able to convert fourth and seven just a few
minutes ago, but they got another fourth and seven here
on the seventeen.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
Yes they do.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
I wonder if they would consider a field goal. You know,
we just learned they have a exchange student who is there,
who is their kicker from Brazil. But no, Justin Dennett
here fourth and seven from the seventeen, he's he's gonna
go for it, and you gotta believe it's a passing
situation here.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
Whitehall leading Montague sixth to nothing, ten minutes, thirty five
seconds to play in the second quarter, fourth and seven
for the Wildcats on the white Hall seventeen yard line.
Jacob play action gonna roll right now. He stops, throws
to the end zone and it's gonna be intercepted by
Cam Vic Thompson in the end zone. He is trying
to find Tellen Francis twelve on twelve and Camdon Thompson

(40:17):
turns away with a pick.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
Yeah, it's kind of hard to throw over us the
six to five Cam Thompson that time.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
But so that's twice two drives by.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
Montague down into the red zone or close to the
red zone, and they come away empty both times. So
we're seeing the theme develop here and the Whitehall defense
maybe a little bit of bend, but don't break. And
now it's up to the Montague defense to get a stop.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
That was a fifteen play Montague drive that took seven
minutes and twenty seconds off the clock. But the Vikings
turn them away with the pick in the end zone
by Thompson, who takes the snap on first and ten,
keeps the ball in the play fake running right, makes
a tackle miss at the line of scrimmage, and make
then another one miss at the twenty five and he's
out close to a first down.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
That's about as impressive as an eighty yard run as
you're ever gonna see.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
Yeah, you don't see guys who are six to five
being able to make those kind of moves he was
doing his Kyle Stranton impersonation there making people miss in
the open field. But you know, normally you see a
big kid like that and defenders are just salivating because
they just can't wait to, you know, cut him down.
But he's very elusive, very hard to get a good

(41:26):
hit on.

Speaker 1 (41:28):
Six nothing Vikings. They have it second and one and
they're on twenty nine yard line, playbook wide open, with
nine to forty to play before halftime.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
English goes in motion.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
Thompson thinks to give He's gonna run left hit in
the backfield.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
He's not gonna get away this time.

Speaker 1 (41:43):
River Jarka, the outside linebacker, makes the play and it'll
be third down.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
For Whitehall at that time. Quarterback versus quarterback. Give the
victory on that play to River Jarko. What a great
open field tackle he made right there. And now all
of a sudden it yet go from second to one
now to third and six deep in their own territory.
If they don't convert this, we may see our first
pun of the game.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
Check the rest of that Montague defense. Fletch Thoman, the junior,
the running back also inside linebacker, as well as number
twenty one Caleb Schmidt. The outside linebackers for Montague are
number two River Jarka and number eight Cayden Jeffrey. On
third down the passes intercepted. Thompson's pass is picked off
by Thoeman and that's a huge play for Montague because

(42:31):
they're gonna get the football inside the Whitehall thirty yard line.

Speaker 3 (42:35):
We mentioned about Cam Thompson that's been an issue for
him so far this year is the interceptions. That was
a careless pass over the middle. I think, you know,
Fletch Tolman is only five to five. I think he
thought he could get it over his head. But Toman
leaped up with his right hand, knocked the ball up
into the air and then was able to intercept it.
And just like that, Montague is back with a chance

(42:58):
to tie the game or maybe take the lead.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
Well, we've seen their defense take the football away. They
did it four times the Oak Wres two weeks ago.
They need to cash this in. Jarker runs up the
middle one first down, He's got about five as he
gets down to the twenty before Brock Morning Star brings
him down.

Speaker 3 (43:11):
Had nice job that time. He faked the handoff to
Fletch Tholeman. The defense was really on Thoeman, and he
pulled the ball at the last second and was able to.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
Make his way through for a six yard game.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
So Montague is still clinging to his excuse me, white
Hall still clinging to a six to nothing lead. Montague
with the ball inside the Whitehall red zone for the
second straight trip. They threw an interception here just moments ago.
They give us to Thoemen running left. He's got a
first down inside the fifteen, down to about the fourteen
yard line.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
Will the third time be the charm here?

Speaker 3 (43:51):
Jason Hutton, Like we said, Montagu a couple of promising drives,
nothing to show for it. You gotta believe that they've
got to get some points out of this one, because
if you go three times and come away with nothing,
you feel in a little snake bit so really important here.
Getting close to midway through the second quarter.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
Seven minutes fifty seconds to play. Second quarter, Montague with
it first and ten from the white Hall fourteen. Jarka
fakes to get to Thoman, follows him up the middle.

Speaker 2 (44:20):
He bounces out.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
To the right, got a about three down to the eleven.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
We mentioned in the pregame one of the keys for
Montague was to create turnovers. They got had four of
them against Oakridge and that was the first turnover.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
Of the game.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
An interception by Fletch Toeman a huge play in this game.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
We've seen a lot of trips formations from Montague and
the trips of Francis, Degan and Bailey go to the
White side left and then give is to Thoming up
the middle. He's inside the five and Thoman near the
goal line, and they'll say he's down at the one.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
But not before he gets ten. It sets up first
and goal for Montague.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
Wow, got quick burst up the middle there by Toeman.

Speaker 4 (45:05):
Yeah, that time.

Speaker 3 (45:06):
Connor Nash, the senior defensive end for Whitehall, he lost
his helmet on that play.

Speaker 4 (45:12):
There's some hitting going on down there.

Speaker 3 (45:14):
This might be a friendly, small town American rivalry, but
these guys are going after each other.

Speaker 1 (45:20):
Remember what John Madden used to say when there was
a hummet rolling around on the field.

Speaker 2 (45:22):
What's the first thing you do?

Speaker 4 (45:24):
Make sure his head's nice.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
Sure they're ahead of it.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
First and goal from the one for Montague inside seven
minutes to playing the gives to Thiming up the middle.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
He's into the end zone. Fletcher Thomen has even this game.

Speaker 1 (45:35):
It's six apiece, was six point fifty.

Speaker 2 (45:37):
One to play in the second quarter.

Speaker 1 (45:41):
Montague cashes in on the interception by Thot and he
runs it in.

Speaker 4 (45:46):
Yeah, they were at.

Speaker 3 (45:46):
Whitehall was asking a lot of its defense there, you know,
and then that interception a huge play. Give credit to
Montague for seizing the momentum and taking it in. Thoman
there just pounding it right up the middle for a
one yard run. Let's see if they can take the
lead here.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
So Jonah Henderson into a tip the extra point and
he booms it through and just like that, Montague has
the lead. With six fifty one to play before the half.
It's the Wildcats seven, White Call six. This is the
lmcu lake short game of the week. On one of
seven mus the moose. We'll be right back. Montague seven,

(46:28):
Whitehall six. Jason Hutton, Tom Kendra back and while in
a Viking country, it's the annual battle for the bell.
The Vikings trying to keep that for a fourth straight season.
But Montague's just gone in front for the first time
with six fifty one to play in the second quarter,

(46:52):
and now they're gonna get set to kick it off,
Henderson puts his left foot into it. It's a high
endover in deep kick that's gonna be in. It'll be tacon.
It'll be taken by Hunter Osborne from out of the
end zone and he brings it back to about the
twenty one to twenty two yard line.

Speaker 2 (47:07):
The mint of get.

Speaker 1 (47:07):
Coaching staff right next to us. It's been going crazy
because you're not allowed in high school football to bring
the battle of the end zone, but Osborne did. Nonetheless, Yeah,
that's a Obviously it was a couple of yards into
the end zone. And now I see Justin Dennon and
the Montague coaches on the field talking to the official.

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Let's see if they get this right.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
Well, they're spotting it at the twenty one yard line,
maybe the twenty two, so White Holl's gonna get about
six extra feet out of this, so they'll have it
first down. They're going to move it back to the
twenty one, not to twenty, but it is first and
ten for the Vikings. Nonetheless, they through an interception on
their last possession.

Speaker 2 (47:53):
Thompson and the gun he's got English going in motion.

Speaker 1 (47:56):
They give it to him on the jet to the
white side right and he's got the corner. English stepped
through at tackle the twenty six cuts back at the
thirty finally knocked out of bounds at about the thirty
seven yard line.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
It's sixteen yards for Blake English on first down.

Speaker 3 (48:09):
What a block that time by Cordy Anderson number ten
out out there on the edge. I just a crackback
block on the Montague defensive end and that and that
opened up that edge and a great play on first
down for the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (48:28):
So spotted at in the thirty seven a sixteen yard
game for English, first and ten Whitehall. Now Osborne goes
in motion and the give is going to be the
craner over right tackle and he's over the forty yard
line before he's brought down by Caden Jeffrey. So a
modest gain on first down this time for the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (48:44):
You know, I mentioned one of the differences in the
in this these two teams is Whitehall's ability.

Speaker 4 (48:49):
To run and pass the ball.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
But now after Cam Thompson throws an interception, you know,
will Tony Sigmund be as as willing to throw the
ball again, or you get nervous about throwing it. I
think Montague are Whitehall has to stay diverse offensively.

Speaker 2 (49:05):
So the give to Ryan.

Speaker 1 (49:07):
Goodrich on second down, and good Rich gets out close
to the forty five yard line, he's gonna be about
three yard shy of a first down, and we're gona
third and short now for Whitehall.

Speaker 3 (49:17):
Yeah, the runners for Whitehall much more power runners, Ryan Goodrich,
Gavin Kraner.

Speaker 4 (49:23):
They're not really the speed.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Guys as as opposed to Montague where River Jerka, Devlyn Dean,
those guys are more faster speed guys.

Speaker 2 (49:35):
So third down and three from the forty four.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
Thompson's got four wide receivers and he's got English in
motion and he's gonna throw from the pocket. Now he
runs out of time. He thumps it off to Osborne
over its head of midfield and incomplete. River Jarka applying
the pressure on Thompson. It'll be fourth.

Speaker 4 (49:54):
Down, boy, River Jarka.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
We've talked about him so much as a quarterback as
an offensive weapon, but boy does he like to come
up and hit. He put a put a big hit
on Cam Thompson there just after he threw the ball.
And now it brings up a decision time for Tony
Siegmund four from.

Speaker 1 (50:10):
Three, and we're gonna see the punting unit come out
of the field.

Speaker 2 (50:14):
Now.

Speaker 1 (50:14):
Cam Thompson is the punter, as Kellen Francis is gonna
go back deep to receive fur Montague. Clock has stopped
five oh six to play second quarter. Montague leads Whitehall
seven to six. As Thompson is set to punt, Francis
waits at his own twenty yard line.

Speaker 2 (50:32):
Thompson rolling right.

Speaker 1 (50:34):
And at the last second does kick it high end
over end. Francis lets it bounce and grabs it on
a hop at the twenty and that's where Montague will
take over.

Speaker 2 (50:43):
Interesting punt, but a punt nonetheless.

Speaker 3 (50:45):
Oh, Cam Thompson did not want to punt that ball,
did he. He was looking, looking, looking, and that was risky.
He waited so long till he was surrounded almost by
Montague defenders. But it actually got a good kickoff. You know,
is there anything that Cam Thompson can't do well?

Speaker 1 (51:04):
We've seen him play widers. You know, he's a great
wide receiver the last two years for Whitehall. We've seen
him play wide receiver this year when they'd gotten behind
against Unie Christian, when they'd gotten behind last week in Zeeland,
last they would snap at Ryan Goods and he would
throw it up to Thompson. He caught a touchdown pass
last week. So four fifty six to play before the half,
Montague with the football and the leads seven to six.

Speaker 2 (51:21):
They have it on their own twenty yard line.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
Thowman next to.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
Jarka and they're gonna run Jarker right up the middle.

Speaker 1 (51:27):
And he pushes his way from maybe two Gavin Kraner,
Corday Anderson Nate bens All in there for the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
I mentioned how the Montagu backs are more explosive, more
kind of the the threat to take it to the
house at any time. So even a play like that
where you only get two yards up the middle, you know,
you just keep pounding and if eventually you're able to
break one of them. If you're Monague, they could go
for a forty fifty yard game. So let's see if
they continue to pound the rock, especially with the.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
Lead Taylan Degan, Bailey and France.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
The trips under the white side right, Pendel's a short
is to tight end to the short side left, quick
throw out to Bailey who's got it, but Brock morning
Star there to bring him down. After a short gain,
we're gonna spot in about the twenty three.

Speaker 2 (52:11):
Yard line, but it's gonna bring up a third and
long for Montague.

Speaker 3 (52:13):
Yeah, that time, they tried to just get it out
quickly to the edge. I mean, that's Whitehall's game. They
know how to That's what Whitehall does offensively with the
the spread look, and they know how to defend it.

Speaker 4 (52:25):
Well. Nice job that time, and it brings up third
and long.

Speaker 1 (52:28):
That's a simple design, right, get it out to your playmakers.
It's trips over there, so you get the other two
receivers to block form. But Mornings start coming from the
inside in his outside linebacker Spot made.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
A nice play.

Speaker 1 (52:38):
Three minutes forty seconds to play, second quarter, Montague leads
Whitehall seven to six. The Wildcats trying to get that
bell back. They haven't had it since the state championship
year of twenty twenty. Jarka rolling right but hit Cordy
Anderson got him in the backfield. It's fourked down in
a certain punting situation for Montague.

Speaker 4 (52:56):
Wow, another great play by Cordy Anderson.

Speaker 3 (52:58):
We mentioned him with the great block a minute ago,
but that time, what a job of getting in and
just throwing Jarka to the ground and after you know,
we saw the offenses kind of maybe dominating in the
first quarter. The defense is starting to step up. But
Whitehall had to punt and now Montague has to give
it back still with three minutes to go, so Whitehall

(53:20):
has a chance to score before the half.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Cam Thompson is the punt returner.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
He's back at single safety at his own forty two
yard line, eight Neverett and to kick it away from Montague,
it's a squibber over to the right side, goes out
of bounds in Montague.

Speaker 2 (53:41):
They're gonna say.

Speaker 1 (53:42):
Went out of bouts right at midfield. So it's a
twenty nine yard punt no return. But Whitehall tom gonna
start with the ball at midfield. Here with two forty
one to play before the half and all three of
their timeouts.

Speaker 3 (53:53):
Yeah, plenty of time to get back and get on
the board, try to retake the lead.

Speaker 4 (53:57):
You know.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
Uh, Whitehall led six to nothing at the first quarter break.
Montague takes advantage of the interception and takes the lead
seven to six. Let's see if Whitehall can retake the lead.
I'm looking at the enrollments of these school schools. Whitehall
almost one hundred and fifty students bigger than Montague. They're
opting to play up in D four. Montague, I think

(54:19):
is a real threat in Division six.

Speaker 1 (54:23):
But Waldcats have been impressive tonight, leading seven to six
on the road, and on first down, Thompson's gonna run
behind his offensive line, breaks the tackle and inside the
forty yard line.

Speaker 2 (54:34):
Finally spun down at the thirty six.

Speaker 1 (54:36):
So it's a game of thirteen for Cam Thompson on
first down as they spotted that punt out of bounds
at the Montague forty nine yard line.

Speaker 3 (54:43):
Yeah, these Monacue coaches in the booth next to us,
they're saying, why can't we hit this kid? But he's
a got great vision out there. That's another thing I've
noticed about Thompson. Great vision when he's running the ball.
It's a little scary the way he carries the ball,
isn't it Jay, kind of like a loaf of bread
way out there.

Speaker 4 (54:58):
But he hasn't fumbled it.

Speaker 1 (55:00):
Yeah, trust your guy, and the give is to English
on the jet. Montague doing a nice job is stringing
it out and English gonna get a couple inside the
thirty five. Nice play over there by big seventy seven
Jacob Alger short game for Montague on first down clock
continues to run as they say, didn't go to bounds,
So we're inside two minutes till the half.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
Yeah, that time, Taylon Degan came up and undercut the runner.
A nice job there by the defensive back for Montague
Kloka ticking down below two minutes here we didn't finish that.

Speaker 1 (55:34):
Montague secondary Kellen Francis the senior number twelve and junior
Cooper Bradley number one of the corners, and then the
Deagan cousins Tallon and Jack are the safety zero in four.

Speaker 2 (55:44):
Give us the Craner Craterer turns the corner inside.

Speaker 1 (55:46):
The twenty Gavin Crater into the end zone, but there
is a flag on the play back at the corners
attack at the Montague twenty eight yard line, and this one.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
Holding white On.

Speaker 3 (56:00):
Wow, that's a we saw the big penalty that hurt
Montague on a fourth down play. That's a huge penalty
against Whitehall. It's gonna wipe out the touchdown run by
Gavin Krainer.

Speaker 4 (56:12):
He did a great job turning.

Speaker 3 (56:13):
The corner around the left side, but the ref didn't
hesitate he threw that flag right away, and a holding
penalty is a huge break for Montague.

Speaker 1 (56:24):
You know, Tom, we were talking about the injuries, the
devastating injuries for Whitehall, losing outstanding players like Apron start
Stout and Parker Mott. For this game, we talked about
how Monigue's got all their guys dress. We have not
seen a key guy number ten from Monaguie Riley Moulder
didn't see him when I watched the Orchard View game
last week either. We've not seen number ten played all
for Montague tonight. He's a key, key guy for the

(56:45):
Wildcats for sure. So after the penalty, it's second down
in twelve and the thirty eight yard line for Whitehall,
and we got a slot receiver that started a little
bit early and the Vikings are gonna go back another
five yards.

Speaker 4 (56:56):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
So, after playing a pretty clean game up to this point,
back to back back penalties for Whitehall moving them in
the wrong direction here. Obviously, this would be huge for
Montague if they were able to hang on to a
halftime lead, especially after getting a touchdown call back there
for Whitehall. So a very important final minute in five

(57:20):
here of the first half.

Speaker 1 (57:22):
Clock is running after the five yards are marked off,
and now we're gonna have.

Speaker 2 (57:25):
A We're gonna stop the clock.

Speaker 1 (57:27):
Tony Sigmund said something to the side judge here, and
the side judge waved his arms to stop the clock.
It ran eight seconds down to one minute, and we
might have to have a clock adjustment here unless Whitehall
called time out. But the ball is spotted at the
Montague forty three. Whitehall needs to twenty six for a
first down. It is second down and seventeen officials getting

(57:48):
together to.

Speaker 2 (57:48):
Talk about this here.

Speaker 1 (57:50):
The clock was running on the penalty, so I do
believe it's the right call for the clock to start
when once ready for play, a signal.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
On the way.

Speaker 3 (58:00):
It'll be interesting that I look for them to go
to the air. You know, Cordy Anderson and Blake English,
those those two have kind of been the big play
guys for Whitehall so far this year.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
Thompson rules right, looking to throw, gonna go for Osborne
incomplete double coverage out there. Jarka and tallon Dean had
him blanketed. It's gonna be third and very long for Whitehall.

Speaker 3 (58:22):
Yeah, that time, good coverage down the field. Hunter Osborne
may have had a step and the you know, Cam Thompson,
he's not a natural quarterback. He's he's you know, looking
to play receiver in college.

Speaker 4 (58:36):
But you know he doesn't have the natural throwing arm.

Speaker 3 (58:39):
He tried to loft it in there to Osborne just
a little bit overshot him a little bit.

Speaker 1 (58:45):
The Fletcher Foeman touchdown round was six to fifty one
to go in the second quarter of that put Montague had
his another fifty dollars for Kids Food Basket. It's our
official nonprofit for the MC high school football game of
the week in this regular season. Every touchdown score during
our games is a.

Speaker 2 (58:59):
Week see you with generously going. It's fifty dollars.

Speaker 1 (59:02):
The Kids Food Basket to nourish local kids to reach
their full potential. Third and seventeen Thompson with all day
to throw it now, he's going to roll out to
the left. Spinsen comes back to the middle of the
field and throws late road wide.

Speaker 3 (59:15):
Open number twenty two.

Speaker 1 (59:17):
Ryan good Richmond tried to twenty and finally down to
the seventeen yard line, walks.

Speaker 2 (59:23):
Off with thirty seconds to play before the half.

Speaker 3 (59:26):
That play was all Cam Thompson, Jason Hutton.

Speaker 4 (59:29):
There was nothing going on there.

Speaker 3 (59:31):
He rolled out to his left and then was able
to elude two defenders, come all the way back to
the middle of the field and found a wide open
Ryan Goodrich. Normally, on that kind of play there ends
up being a legal man down field. Give credit to
the white Hall offensive line. They know their quarterback can
extend to play. They didn't get downfield and a huge

(59:52):
first down and now yeah, Whitehall back inside the red zone,
chance to take the lead.

Speaker 4 (59:57):
At the half.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
The ball is at the seventeen yeard so that's a
twenty six yard game. Incredible play by Thompson. Thirty seconds
to go before the half, Whitehall uses their first timeouts.
So stay tuned because coming up at the half, it'll
be the Preferred Automotive halftime show.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
Five Locations.

Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Preferred Automotive has five locations along the Lake Shore, over
seven hundred vehicles available. Preferred has the vehicle to fit
any budget. Preferred is driving our community. Stay tuned because
I'm that Preferred Automotive halftime show. We're gonna check in
with John Arder who's at the Lake Shore Spotlight Games tonight.
He'll have a full report on Miskeigan, Catholic Central and
Fruitport doing Battle. Of course, the Crusader's not an independent,

(01:00:41):
so it's a non league game Fruitport. Part of the
Okay Silver opened Okay Silver play last week we went
over Comstock Park. So thirty seconds ago we're ready to
resume play first and ten on the sixteen yard line,
and the give is gonna go to Craner running right.
Crater's inside the fifteen to about the fourteen and we're.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Gonna have another timeout. Jarka made the tackle.

Speaker 1 (01:01:01):
Whitehall spends their second timeout with twenty five seconds to
play before the half. Interesting play call there tom two
yard game at first down. He had to spend your
second time out.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
Yeah, I think they thought they could sneak him through
the right side of that line, but give credit to
the Montague defense. They were ready for him. Just a
very short gain. Again, you know, they have to be
willing to throw the football. That's this is that's Whitehall's offense.
They had the turnover, but especially with you know, not
much time on the clock, they're down to just one

(01:01:31):
time out remaining twenty five seconds left. They got to
get what are they at the fifteen yard line?

Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
They need to six the balls at about the thirteen ok,
and they need the seven yard line. It looks like
for a first down, but stay two that preferred automotive
halftime show. We take him with John Arter Thruport and
Skinkelech CENTERL will recap the first half. We'll have a
rapid radio scoreboard update. And don't forget to check out
the Trinity Health High School Football page.

Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
You got our game.

Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
The week schedules are there. We got game in Show podcast.
After this game is over, the archive will be there.
You can hear our game from last week. We've can
reach Buffer in spring Lake. We can hear week two
when we had Rockford a Miskeigan, or week one when
we had Orchard View in oak Ridge one O seven
mus dot com ninety six to one. The game dot
com powered by Trinity Health improving our communities by going

(01:02:21):
beyond the hospital walls. So the give is gonna go
to Ryan Goodrich here and he has dropped river Jarka
just made another check And Whyhell's gonna have to use
their last time out because the clock is running at
fifteen seconds. They're not using it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
They're hustling to the line.

Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
But it is third down and six for Whitehall, nine
seconds to play. Opening quarter, Thompson in the shotgun takes
the snap with six Thompson rolling left. This is gonna
be the last play of the half. Thompson finally throws
into the end zone and it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
Is caught Lord Hunter Osbourne for the touchdown, and we
got a flat on your night.

Speaker 1 (01:02:54):
But this touchdown's gonna stand, Tom That's gonna be on monagu.

Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
After the play.

Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
I'll tell you what dam Thompson's worth the price of
the mission. I didn't think this was gonna work. White
Hall needed to use their final time out because that
ended up being the last play of the half and
it was just kind of.

Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
A scramble and it worked well. He honestly, you want
my opinion on that, Jay cam Thompson.

Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
Bailed out his head coach. There was some questionable clock
management on that drive.

Speaker 4 (01:03:24):
But when you got.

Speaker 3 (01:03:25):
Cam Thompson and he's able to extend the play like that,
like he's done so many times, and that time found
Hunter Osbourne all alone on the side of the end
zone and a huge score there right at the end
of the half.

Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
And Whitehall will go for two here after they missed
the extra point the first time, and they give is the.

Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
Gavin trainer and he is in two points versions.

Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Right Home fourteen and Montague seven, and we have reached halftime.

Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
What a half it's been. Whitehall jumps out to the league.

Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Montague comes back and goes in front, and then Whitehall
scores on a wild play to end a half.

Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
At the break.

Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
Our score white Hall fourteen, Montague seven. We're gonna come
back with the preferred automotive halftime show. This is the
LMCU Lake Short game of the week.

Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
One of seven m us. The moose just means more
when the bells on the line.

Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
An incredible first twenty four minutes of play here at Whitehall,
where the host Vikings lead their rival from white Lake
Montague fourteen to seven at the break.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
The Vikings scored first on.

Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
A Cam Thompson touchdown run, missed the extra point for
six to nothing lead. Whitehall answered back after a Fletcher
Folman interception. He ran it in one yard extra point
put Monague up seven to six. But Whitehall has just
scored on the final play of the first half, a
Cam Thompson scramble and throw to Hunter Osbourne in the

(01:04:54):
en zone from thirteen yards out, two point conversion, fourteen.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
To seven at the half.

Speaker 1 (01:04:58):
Our guy, John Arter is a it's a Lake Shore
Spotlight Game of the week, the Skiing Catholic Central hosting Fruitport.

Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
We're gonna go to John Live right now for update
on that battle. John. How's it going?

Speaker 9 (01:05:10):
Reporting from the Skiking Catholic High School.

Speaker 8 (01:05:12):
This is game report, John ardor or a Lake Short
Spotlight game halftime report on one oh seven m us.
We had fifty eight seconds left to go here in
the first half. We're tied the Skiing Catholic seven and
Fruitport seven. Tonight, the Freeport Trojans are playing without their
senior quarterback Braydon Cornbach, due to an injury sustained last
week against Tomtock Park. The Skiing Catholics started their second

(01:05:36):
drive on the through Port thirty three. The Crusaders offense
kept it on the ground, driving thirty three yards and
scoring on a Brian convent Tree one yard touchdown run
at four to oh nine.

Speaker 9 (01:05:48):
Then Fruitport's line started to take control of the trenches
of the young cru Stader line, putting together a seventy
seven yard scoring drive. Ian Campbell scored on a one
yard touchdown run. Scorer was tired at seven eleven fifty
three left to go. Now we have fifty two seconds
left as trupport has drove pretty much the length of

(01:06:09):
the field and they're down inside the five yard line
and they're calling a touchdown.

Speaker 8 (01:06:16):
Good by Fruitport. So Fruitport is just taking the lead
thirteen to seven with fifty two seconds left. This is
John Arder reporting from the seedy Catholic High School.

Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
Hey, John, if you're still there and you can hear me,
can you tell us how the Trojans are doing without
Braydon dorm boss, because that's a huge loss for them.
He's an outstanding player. How are they doing at quarterback
and offensively without him.

Speaker 8 (01:06:37):
On the field, Jason, they're doing very well with that obviously,
Fruitport missus his presidence.

Speaker 9 (01:06:45):
There in the lineup.

Speaker 8 (01:06:46):
But a sophomore quarterback, Brady Hanson, says sober, and he
looked very good being a sophomore, and they've gone mostly
behind the running of Leon Campbell, who has the bulk
of the yards there for the Trojans and some patch home.

Speaker 1 (01:07:01):
Awesome, John, great job out there, buddy. Enjoy the rest
of that half. We'll hear from you on the High
School Scoreboard show later on tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
There you have it.

Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
Fruitport is just going in front of a skeekon Catholic
Central thirteen to seven late in the second quarter with
the extra point pending.

Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
This is the preferred automotive halftime show.

Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
We're our score, Whitehall leading Montague fourteen to seven at
the break.

Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
We're gonna take a time out. We'll come back with
a rapid radio.

Speaker 1 (01:07:24):
Scoreboard update and look at the first half scoring summary.
This is the LMCU Lake short game of the week
on one of seven m us to move.

Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
We're back on the preferred automotive halftime show.

Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
Jason Hutton alongside and Tom Kendra as Whitehall leads Monague
fourteen to seven at the half. Take a look at
our MKD Funeral Home first half scoring summary. White Hall
got on the board first in their opening possession of
the game. They drove sixty three yards in eight plays.
Cam Thompson, the senior quarterback, caps it off with a

(01:07:56):
fourteen yard touchdown around extra point no good.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Six nothing vikings.

Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
It would be until six fifty one second quarter before
Montagu would get on the board. Fletcher Thoman hit intercepted
at Thompson pass and then scores on a five play
drive that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
Went twenty five yards. It took him in a fifty
nine oine o'clock.

Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
On a one yard touchdown run, extra point from Jonah
Henderson made it seven to six Montague, and on the
final play of the second quarter, Whitehall caps a six
play forty nine yard drive that took two minutes forty
one seconds, Thompson finding Hunter Osborne on the thirteen yard
touchdown run. The two point conversion from Gavin Krainer makes
it fourteen to seven Montague at the half. MKD Funeral

Rapid Radios scoreboard update, because we've got some very interesting
scores happening around the area.

Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
Well, we certainly do.

Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
In that blockbuster game over at Mona Shores Byron Center
took the lead in that game six to nothing, but
Mona Shores has come roaring back two scores at the half.
Mona Shores leads that game fourteen to six. How about
the Grand Haven Buccaneers playing Caledonia and Brody Betzer shutting
them down pretty well so far? Grand Haven leads Caledonia

(01:09:27):
fourteen to eight. Muskegan in a little bit of a
dog fight there at Hackley Stadium, they lead Forest Hills
Northern twenty one to fourteen. It's Reesepoffer all over Grand
Rapids Union twenty seven to nothing. Spring Lake putting up
quite a fight tonight at West Catholic Right now it's
West Catholic fourteen, spring Lake thirteen. Here's a little bit

(01:09:49):
of a surprise in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division
over at oak Ridge. It's Luddington seventeen Oakridge seven. So
looking to pull an up set there it's Man of
St twenty two orchard View nothing, Ravana. That's a pretty
good football team, I think. Down in Division seven thirty

(01:10:09):
five to nothing right now over Shelby.

Speaker 4 (01:10:12):
And then.

Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
That Fruitport at Muskegan Catholic Central game. I know we
heard that report from John Arder. Did a Fruitport take
the lead in that game.

Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
Yeah, they had just taken the lead with under a
minute to play in the second quarter, and when I
didn't know, we didn't hear the extra points, so it
was thirteen to seven extra point pending with Fruitport and
the lead. Playing without outstanding quarterback Braden dorm Boss.

Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
All right, well there you have it for the scoreboard.

Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
All right, Well, it's been an interesting first half here Whitehall.
We know his battle for the ballot has not been
competitive the last two years, Tom, but this has been
a great football game. I expect a great final twenty
four minutes here. Let's look at some of the stats
from the first half, with Whitehall leading Montague fourteen to seven.

Speaker 3 (01:10:48):
Yeah, very even gaming the difference there right of the
very last play of the half, twelve yard pass from
Cam Thompson to Hunter Osbourne to give Whitehall the lead
at halftime. But you look at the stats, very even
this game, looking at Whitehall one hundred and forty four
total yards to Montague one hundred and twenty one total yards,
so really close. Eight first downs for both teams in

(01:11:09):
the game. But Cam Thompson's really been the difference so far.
The senior quarterback two of six passing for thirty one yards,
one touchdown and the one interception. He's also ran the
ball four times for thirty two yards. And then in
terms of Gavin Krainer five carries for thirty one yards

(01:11:30):
Ryan Goodrich he actually had the one big catch for
twenty yards. Those are the leaders individually for Whitehall. For Montague,
again I mentioned they have one hundred and twenty one
total yards.

Speaker 4 (01:11:43):
One hundred and thirteen of those yards have come on
the ground through the air.

Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
River Jarka just two of four for eight yards and
one interception. He's rushed twelve times for thirty three yards.
The leading rusher for Montague is the junior Fletch Tolman
ten carries for forty six yards, including a touchdown. The
sophomore devln Dean four carries for thirty four yards. Defensive

(01:12:11):
leaders for Whitehall three three guys with six tackles.

Speaker 4 (01:12:16):
Those three are.

Speaker 3 (01:12:19):
Ryan Goodrich, Cam Thompson and Gavin Craner, all with six
tackles to lead Whitehall. For Montague, the Deagan cousins both
of Jack Degan and Taylan Diagan, both with four tackles,
and then River Jarka also with four tackles to lead
Whitehall to to lead Montague defensively.

Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
About five minutes till we start the second half. Been
a great start to this game. We expect a great finish.
We'll step aside here in the preferred automotive halftime show.
We'll come back and look at the keys of the
second half. This is the LMSU Lake Shore.

Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
Game of the Week.

Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
I won a seven mus the moves Jason and Tom
Kendra back in the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the
Week where white Hall leads Montague fourteen to seven at
the break time. As we look at keys to the
second half, Montague moved the football in that first half, right,
They drive deep into white Hell territory, turn it over

(01:13:18):
on downs, then they drive deep into the white Hell territory,
throw an interception, then they get to short field on
the fumble on the interception score. Now their last possession
they go three and a half. So if you're justin
Dennett Stanley with what you do or do we want
to see some Eli pet Peterson a quarterback because we
haven't seen him the first half.

Speaker 3 (01:13:36):
Well, I was just going to bring that up that
you know, we've seen a lot of the dual quarterback.
You move River Jerka from the quarterback spot out to
the slot, throw the ball to him, try to get
it to him, maybe on a sweep or some kind
of jet sweep motion. But I think that is one
of the keys, because as Montague becomes more and more
one dimensional, you know that Keith Stratton and Tony Sigman

(01:13:57):
and this white Hall team, they're.

Speaker 4 (01:13:58):
Just gonna keep loading up the bo It's gonna.

Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
Get tougher and tougher for Montague just to line up
and just pound it at this Whitehall team.

Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
I think they're gonna have to throw it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
And the question is is it River Jarka throwing it
or maybe it's Eli Peterson. I think if they're able
to do that just enough, you know, to back Whitehall off,
then they'll have a chance to keep.

Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
Running the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
But if they're completely one dimensional, I really like Whitehall's chances.

Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
And on the other side, the Vikings played like kind
of like you said early on it Ben, but don't break.
They've given up some yards, but they stood tall when
they had to, and the other side of the football,
they've moved it well.

Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
They also had.

Speaker 1 (01:14:32):
One possession where they had a four and now they
had a first down and.

Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
Then ended up having to punt.

Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
So I think offensively, you just kind of snap at
the twelve and let them run around.

Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
That's been their best play.

Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
Defensively, what does Keith Stratton and the company have to
do here, because we've seen them bring guys up the
box and try to force bot you to throw the football.

Speaker 3 (01:14:50):
Yeah, they have, and I think that's what they're gonna do.
I think they're gonna They're gonna force them to do that.
River Jarka is up. He's a running back playing quarterback. Essentially,
he's a you know, it's mostly a wildcat type thing
when he's playing quarterback. So I think that's that's halftime,
you know for Keith Stratton. I think they said, hey,
we're gonna we're gonna dare him to throw the ball.

(01:15:10):
And if Montague was able to do it a little bit,
I think they have a chance to come back and
have a chance to win this game. But again, as
far as Montague defensively, just finding a way to contain
Cam Thompson, I mean, he's just running wild like fran
Turkington or something out there, and they need to find

(01:15:31):
a way to not let him kill them with his feet,
because that's what he's doing. He's extending plays with his feet,
and they need to find a way to keep him
in check.

Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Well, we're just.

Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
About ready to kick off the second half here. White
Holl's gonna get it. They're gonna receive it as they
won the toss to defer to the second half here.
So Montague is gonna kick off and defend the north
end zone.

Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
And I look down the white.

Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
Hall sideline and Tony sigmund is rolling his troop.

Speaker 4 (01:16:06):
Over.

Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
White only made it to the postseason seven times. It's
been incredible.

Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
They're a perennial playoff team now, and I know he
wants to He's not satisfied.

Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
He wants to take the next step.

Speaker 1 (01:16:15):
That's why he loaded up the schedule because he's tired
of losing in the playoffs and he wants to make
a playoff run. And that's the next step to this
white Hall program.

Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
Yes it is.

Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
And he's so many years covering the West Michigan Conference.

Speaker 4 (01:16:26):
It was the Blues.

Speaker 3 (01:16:27):
We talked about the Blues, oak Ridge, Ravanna and Montague
and Whitehall was always the sleeping giant in that league.
There was the biggest school in the league, the biggest enrollment.
They were always been waiting for Whitehall to come alive,
and under Tony Siegmuan, they've done that. It leaved in
the regular season, you're right, we'll see if they can

(01:16:47):
do something in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
So they actually flipped the teams. Montague is now going
to defend the south end, and so after the unsports
with like penalty on the touchdown, Montague kicks from their
own twenty five Blake English.

Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
Picks it up in about his own twenty four line,
runs left.

Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
He's got some room, Blake English in the midfield and
finally dragged down by Dylan Bailey in Montague territory at
the forty six yard line, a thirty yard return and
they were already backed up fifteen because that on sports
like conduct penalty, Tom, this is huge for Whitehall.

Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
Starts in prime field position.

Speaker 4 (01:17:20):
No question about it.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
A nifty piece of running there by Blake English on
the kickoff return.

Speaker 4 (01:17:25):
You know, he's just another one of those guys.

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
They got Hunter Osbourne, Abram Stout, who's injured tonight, but
Cordy Anderson. A lot of different weapons on this white
Hall team.

Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
Well, you don't think special teams is important white Hall score.
It started that last drive before the half they scored
on on the Montague forty nine, So now they're starting
consecutive drives on the Montague side of the field.

Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
On first down, the hand of.

Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
Ryan Goodrich, who runs right, he gets inside the forty
five to the forty four. And I can't help but
laugh because every time I try to find the number
for Montague who made the tackle, it's always number two.
River Jarka makes the play second and eighth.

Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
Yeah, he's all over the place, and he's a you know,
a great runner with the football, but he's a great
open field tackler and he loves to hit. That time,
Ryan Goodrich turned it back in and he was greeted
with another big hit by River Jarka.

Speaker 1 (01:18:12):
Just underway third quarter, Whitehall leads Montague fourteen to seven,
and the Vikings have the ball second and eight on
the Montagu forty four yard.

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
Gonna run good Rich out of the middle. Not much there.

Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
Fletcher Thowman got in there, then Dylan Bailey finished him off.

Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
They'll give him a yard to the forty three, but
it'll be third and long.

Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
All right.

Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
Nice played by the middle of that Montague defense here.
Maybe see if they can get a stop here even
after the big kickoff returned by Blake English.

Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
Well, wouldn't that be huge, right, You're penalty at the
end of the half, and then the kick return gives
Whitehall a great field position. If their defense could stand
up here, keep white Hall off the board and get
it back, that'd be a huge momentum swing.

Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
Oh, it would be huge. I think it is four
down Territory though, third.

Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
And seven from the forty three tomes into the shotgun.
Now he's gonna roll to his left. He's got time
over there. Now he's gonna stop, turn around and come
back to the middle field jump throw incomplete. He was
looking for Gavin Kraaner, but Fletcher Thowman broke it up.

Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
And I think Montague did a little homework on the
old cam.

Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
Thompson's gonna run around and throw it because nobody got
opened that time.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Yeah, that was just a textbook defensive back play by
Fletch Toeman there. Again, he's only five to five, but
he got that left hand out, knocked the ball away,
and look at this, even after starting this drive on
there in Montague Territory, white Hall is still gonna have
to kick the ball away.

Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
Well, the punty units on the field. But there's a
couple of things here.

Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
One Cam Thompson's the punter, and we saw the last
punt he almost decided around it and then punt.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
It's the last minute.

Speaker 1 (01:19:38):
Also, it's not a bad idea for Tony Sigmann to
play a little field position here. If you could pin
Montague deep in a lower scoring game and they will
kick it a high, short kick from Thompson, it's gonna
bounce it too.

Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
Twenty three.

Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
It hit a Montague and the defender it is loose
and I believe Whitehall is.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
Falling on it. And the official says white Hall football.

Speaker 3 (01:20:03):
Absolutely no fault of the Montagu receiver. He had his
back turned. He was waiting to see where the ball
was going to land. But it was such a short punt.

Speaker 4 (01:20:13):
That it ended up hitting him in the back of
the leg and.

Speaker 3 (01:20:16):
Whitehall I wasn't able to see who it was who
jumped on that ball, but quickly jumped on it and
Whitehall now gets the first down.

Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
Usually on that play, if you're the punt returney, you
gotta scream. You have a code word to get away
from the football, but that time it hit the Montague
blocker in the leg and now the give it's brought
Morton Star into the end zone twenty nine yards the
h back on the other line.

Speaker 4 (01:20:48):
And now it could.

Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
What a turn of events there in the last thirty seconds, Jason.
They looked like Montague got the big spot that they needed,
worsting Whitehall to punk and they were gonna get the
ball back. But instead the punk hits the back of
a Montague player. White Hall jumps on it on the
next play.

Speaker 4 (01:21:09):
What a play call that time by Tony Siegmund.

Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
They faked it and it ended up being a counter
play around the left end to Blake morning Star.

Speaker 4 (01:21:17):
Is that his first carry of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
I think it's his first carry the season.

Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
I watched all three games this week, and he's played
very sparingly on offense, and certainly when he's in there,
it's been.

Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
The block as bench was game to kiss thee.

Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
Our score Whitehall twenty one, Montague seven, ten minutes and
nine seconds to play in the third quarter, and that
reminds us that the third quarter is brought to us
by kids screwed basket and that.

Speaker 2 (01:21:47):
Touchdown run by Brock morning Stars another.

Speaker 1 (01:21:50):
Fifty dollars two Kids Screwed Basket, which is our official
nonprofit for the NMCU high school football Games of the
Week this regular season. Every touchdown score during the games
of the Week, LMCU generally donates fifty dollars to Kids
Food Basket to nourish local kids to reach their full potential.
So there's two hundred dollars just from this game tonight

(01:22:10):
with four touchdowns that are going to Kids Food Basket
donated by LMCU.

Speaker 3 (01:22:19):
One of the most interesting scores that I see on
the rapid Radio scoreboard.

Speaker 4 (01:22:23):
You know, in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
Zealand West leads Zealand East, but just six to nothing.
So give credit to Zealand East. They're it's definitely shutting
down Zealand West. So far we got a great game
in the Bird Bowl.

Speaker 1 (01:22:36):
Well a couple of things. There's the only East I
think is pretty good too. If that score is true.
I wonder if Tray Slotalk is playing, because they're really a.

Speaker 4 (01:22:46):
Good point there. Yeah, good point.

Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
So White else have to kick it off here with
a twenty one to seven lead. Thompson kicks it to
Francis who Kate takes it on the run of his
own eight yard line, Francis across the twenty, Francis to
the thirty, Kellen Francis to midfield, finally dragged down at
the white.

Speaker 2 (01:23:03):
Hall forty nine yard line.

Speaker 1 (01:23:05):
But that's a spark for the Wildcats, who not trail
by two scorers.

Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
Yeah, great job by Kellen Francis there, showing a burst
of speed getting it to the other side.

Speaker 4 (01:23:14):
Of the fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:23:15):
And yeah, after the you know the turn of events
that we've seen in the last few minutes of game action,
Whitehall scoring on the final play of the first half
and then taking advantage of a miscue by Montague. The
Wildcats really need to answer here.

Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
When you think about it this way, and these games
that you figure are gonna be closed, possessions are huge, right,
and that's why you defer to the second half.

Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Montague scored it. Excuse me.

Speaker 1 (01:23:38):
White Hall scored a touchdown on the final play the
second quarter. Then they got the football to start the
third quarter. They have to punt, but the ball hits
a Montague player and Whitehall falls on it. Essentially, that's
three consecutive possessions for Whitehall, which is huge in a
game like this, as Jarker runs over the right side
on first down, he's inside the forty five, down to
about the forty three.

Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Yes, And in spite of all of that, you know,
montaguse if they're able to come back and answer here,
get it back to a one score game. You know
they're still right where they need to be.

Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
Well, as we talk about the importance of possessions, Montague
down two scores now for the first time tonight. Nine
minutes twenty seconds to play third quarter, and they have
the ball in the white House side of the field.
Points would be important for the geu here, and they
give us to Devlyn Dean running right. He's hit, He's
hit and dropped.

Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
Big loss.

Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
Looked like it was number nine Cody Manzo coming up
from his corner spot. And that gets back to what
we were talking about. Tom Montague is not throwing the football,
and when their corners are crashing up.

Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
Like that, it to be hard to run it.

Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
Well, you're exactly right, that's what happened there. They're not
fearing the pass at all. They are just teeing off
and that time, Yeah, great hit in the open field.
Cody Manzel just looked like he was shot out of
a cannon bringing up a third and long.

Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
It's a five yard loss back to the forty eight
and man is just gonna run it right up the
middle with River Jarka for two. It's fourth down for Montague,
down two scores.

Speaker 4 (01:25:13):
Yeah again. You know, he brings up a huge play here.
Fourth down.

Speaker 3 (01:25:18):
They can't afford to give the ball right back to Whitehall,
especially you know the way Whitehall has been scoring.

Speaker 4 (01:25:23):
Here in the last little bit of this game.

Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
So and number five Eli Peterson, for the first time tonight,
is in the huddle for Montague. Fourth down and seven,
ball in the white Hall forty six yard line, just
over eight minutes to play third quarter, and it is Peterson.

Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
That's in the gun. Thoman is next to him.

Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
River Jarko goes to the slot left, four wide receivers.
As we go into eight minutes to play third quarter,
Peterson straight back.

Speaker 2 (01:25:47):
In the gun.

Speaker 1 (01:25:47):
Now he's gonna roll right, he's going deep, and the
passes sort out of bounds intended for tallon Degan and
Whitehall stiffens and they get the football back right. I
gotta tell you what, time, that's not easy for a
guy like Eli Peter who stood there on the sidelines
for well over two quarters of this game and have
to be thrown in there in a fourth down and they.

Speaker 4 (01:26:05):
Make it throw Oh exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:26:07):
That's a real, real tough ask for anybody in that situation. Yeah, definitely,
That's the big difference I see in this game, and
I mentioned it several times already, but the inability for
Montague to get anything going through the air. Again, just
eight passing yards in the first half, no passing yards
so far in the second half. So the one dimensional

(01:26:29):
is us holding down Montague in this game.

Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Those eight passing yards did come on a huge fourth
down play in the first quarter that moved the change,
but Montague eventually threw an interception in the.

Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
End zone on that drive.

Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
As Whitehall takes over on their own forty six yard
line and Ryan Goodrich runs around the right side into
montague territory. He's inside the forty five to the forty three.
Give him eleven yards in a first down.

Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
That time, Montague made the cardinal mistake you can't make
on a suite. They lost contained that time. They allowed
Ryan Goodrich. You know who's a power runner. He's not
the fastest guy.

Speaker 4 (01:27:03):
In the world.

Speaker 3 (01:27:04):
No way they should have ever let him get around
the end. So a poor play there by the Montague
secondary allowed the big game by Goodrich.

Speaker 1 (01:27:14):
While the Whitehall crowd is feeling and now they know
that if they can punch one in here, it'll be
really tough for their rivals, and they give his to Craner.

Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
No, it's good Rich running right, He's still on his street.

Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
At the twenty Ryan Goodrich to the ten five zone touchdown.
Vikings sick and.

Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
Wow Montague's sidelines and their crowd is stunned over there
at the turn of events in this game. And meanwhile
it's celebration mode in front of us here at Whitehall.
The confetti keeps wafting onto our desk here, but nobody
knew who had the ball there, including Jason Hutton and myself,

(01:27:59):
But it was Ryan who had it.

Speaker 4 (01:28:00):
On the counterplay.

Speaker 3 (01:28:02):
Tiptoed along the home sidelines forty three yards and now
Whitehall firmly in control.

Speaker 1 (01:28:09):
So Nate Betts into attempt the extra point out of
the hold of Camden Thompson. It is up and it
is good, and that makes our score to Whitehall twenty
eight and Montague seven. With seven thirty five to play
in the third quarter, and if you look at it,
Whitehall has all of a sudden become a quick strike offense.

(01:28:33):
That touchdown drive two plays, forty six yards, nineteen seconds
off the clock, Ryan Goodrick's forty three hour touchdown run
that follow up their last possession, which was a run
play nine second drive that was a twenty nine yard
brock Morning Star touchdown run, and all of a sudden,
Whitehall has taken a fourteen to seven game at the

(01:28:54):
half and they turned it into a twenty eight to
seven lead. Montague's only run about five plays since they
had a seven to six lead, and now they're down
twenty one.

Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Yeah, it's almost like the Whitehall is starting to wear
down the smaller Wildcats a little bit here.

Speaker 4 (01:29:08):
In this game.

Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
And I think that's an advantage of We've talked about
the schedule a few times, but playing those tough games
for Whitehall, I think they've they've gotten used to more
of a physical challenge and right now they're kind of
wearing down the Wildcats.

Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
That's another fifty dollars to Kids Food Basket to nourish
kids to reach their full potential.

Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
Two hundred and fifty dollars in this game and.

Speaker 1 (01:29:35):
We're encouraging others to go to one oh seven mus
dot com, Wood Radio dot com or ninety six to
one The Game dot com and you can donate as well.
Any amount is helpful. One dollar, two dollars, five dollars,
ten dollars, and there's a place on the website when
you donate to leave a note and give someone a

(01:29:55):
shout out.

Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
Could be a team, could be a player, and we'd
be happy to do that.

Speaker 1 (01:29:59):
On Games of the Week, the kickoff from camp and
Thompson goes out of bounds at about the Montague thirty
three yard line, but of course the ball will be
placed at the thirty five by rules, so that's.

Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
Where Montague will go to work.

Speaker 1 (01:30:10):
And I have to imagine we're gonna see some Eli
Peterson a quarterback, because down three scores halfway through the
third quarter, Montague is gonna need to score quickly.

Speaker 2 (01:30:18):
But it is River Jarka who comes out.

Speaker 3 (01:30:20):
Yeah, it seemed like just a minute ago that Montague
was ahead in this game seven to six, and now
what a turn of events. This game is slip sliding away,
as Paul Simon saying many years ago, twenty eight to seven.
You know, Montague's not the This isn't the Montague offense.
That's a quick strike type thing. But they need to
find a way to score quickly if they want to

(01:30:42):
have a chance to come back.

Speaker 1 (01:30:44):
So Peterson played quarterback and through the football in the
fourth down play. But it's back to Jarka in the
shotgun with Thoman next to him. Dylan Bailey goes in
motion and Jark's gonna roll left and throw. He's looking
for Bailey, but it has overthrown. Cam Thompson there on
the coverage for Whitehall incomplete.

Speaker 3 (01:31:03):
Yeah again you see the lefty river Jarka throwing the ball.
Uh you know, well covered there, that was. That was
Bailey down down the field, well covered, not fooled. Give
credit to the Whitehall secondary for being all over that
pass to play.

Speaker 1 (01:31:21):
Seven minutes, twenty nine seconds to play third quarter clock
has stopped white Hall leeds Bontacue twenty eight to seven.
They've scored twenty two unanswered points after trailing seven to
six late in the second quarter. Jerk Are gonna run.
Doesn't find much right up the middle. It keeps the
pile moving a little bit across the thirty five to
the thirty seven, but it's a short game.

Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
It'll be third and long.

Speaker 1 (01:31:41):
Gavin Kraaner was in there along with seventy two Connor
Nash for the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (01:31:47):
That's the problem, Jay, when you do throw the ball
and you're throw an intercept or not an interception, and
in completion you know that's a zero game. Then you
run it for just what one or two yards up
the middle and just like that. Yeah, it's and long
situation here for for Montague. So things really spiraling in
the wrong direction here for Justin Dennett and as Wildcats, and.

Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
In an obvious passing situation.

Speaker 1 (01:32:10):
Eli Peterson checks into the game at quarterback in the
shotgun and the trip trips are to the short side right.
The snap comes rolling back to Peterson, who can do
nothing but pick.

Speaker 2 (01:32:23):
It up and be sacked.

Speaker 1 (01:32:25):
Thanks the momentum is wearing all red and white now
as Nate Betts, one of the inside linebackers filling in
for Parker Mott, breaks through to make the tackle back
at the thirty one yard line and it'll be fourth
down and fourteen.

Speaker 4 (01:32:38):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 3 (01:32:39):
Eli Peterson comes into the game. Keith Stratton, the defensive
coordinator for Whitehall dials up just an all out blitz
that time, and it was Bets and Cordy Thompson or
I'm sorry, Cordy Anderson. Cordy Anderson there just greeted him
before Peterson could do anything with the ball. Now, fourth
and fourteen, even down twenty, he won no choice but

(01:33:01):
to kick it away.

Speaker 1 (01:33:05):
Aiden Everett is independed away. He's got a good kick
that will bounce at the white Hall forty. Thompson will
take it on hop of his own thirty four yard line.
He's got some room to the right, Thompson at the
forty five, Thompson at midfield, and he'll go out of
bounds there. But it's a sixteen yard return off a
thirty five yard punt. And for the third straight possession

(01:33:27):
in this half, Whitehall will start on the plus side
of the field. It's the fourth straight possesion they started
the plus side of the field. All three here in
the third quarter have started on the Montague side of
the field.

Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
Yeah, it just seems like Whitehall playing with a greater
sense of urgency in this game, and I think understandably so,
I guess, you know, one and two, this is a
team that has gone nine to oh. The last two
regular seasons. They're definitely playing with more of a sense
of urgency than Montague.

Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
The handoff is the good Ridge right up the middle,
good Rich inside the forty five down to about the
forty two. Whitehall's won eighteen straight West Michigan Conference games.
Tom They're thirteen and oh all time in the West
Michigan Conference Lakes Division. They have not allowed since the split.
They have not allowed more than eight points in a
game in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division game. And

(01:34:18):
tonight was the first time they trailed in a West
Michigan Conference Las Division game when they're down seven to six.

Speaker 3 (01:34:22):
Wow, those are some very dominant statistics. Very interesting stuff
from the book. Jason Hutton, He's got pages of that stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:34:32):
Five minutes to go, third corn, They're gonna run Craner
on the dive. Nothing doing for Gavin Kraaner. Montague's defense
was there waiting for him to force a third down situation.

Speaker 3 (01:34:45):
Yeah, this Monague defense, they're asking a lot of this defense.
We mentioned how many drives have started on the wrong
side of the fifty yard line, and it just makes
it difficult. You know, it's obviously four down territory here,
and with a guy like Cam Thompson at quarterback who
can do so many things, it's just really tough on

(01:35:06):
the defense.

Speaker 1 (01:35:07):
Actually played by defensive end junior Isaac French making that
play for Montague.

Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
Third down, Thompson the running option.

Speaker 1 (01:35:13):
They're gonna give it on the dive back to good Rich,
who's got a first down.

Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
He's still driving inside the thirty all the way down
to the twenty five yard line.

Speaker 1 (01:35:22):
Ryan Goodrich is running hard seventeen yards to move the chains.

Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
Yeah, right now, Whitehall they're using a lot of different people.
You know, we saw Gavin Krainer was the leading rusher
in the first half. Ryan Goodrich having a great second
half here. He just keeps going and going and going.
Starter on both sides of the ball. Fullback and linebacker
the senior for Whitehall.

Speaker 1 (01:35:48):
Thompson, Morning Star, and Goodrich all have touchdow runs for
the Vikings, and Thompson.

Speaker 2 (01:35:53):
Has thrown runs until Hunter Thompson on.

Speaker 4 (01:35:55):
A first down.

Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
Tom'son's been to get a touchdown of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:35:58):
It's back twenty five yards into the end zone.

Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
And Whitehall has blown this thing wide open. With three
fifty to play in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
Yeah, that play he ran right what a block by
Gavin Craner number four for Whitehall, the lead blocker after
the fake from Thompson.

Speaker 4 (01:36:18):
He put the.

Speaker 3 (01:36:19):
Montague linebacker right on his back, opened up the hole
there for Thompson who cut through the right side of
the line twenty five yards. And now, like you said,
Whitehall completely in control.

Speaker 1 (01:36:34):
So the extra point from Betts is up and good
and Whitehall has gone in front of mont of you
thirty five seven, three fifty to play in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:36:43):
This is the LMCU Lake Short Game of the week.
I won O seven mus the most who will be
right back?

Speaker 1 (01:36:51):
That came to Thompson touchdown run, his second rushing touchdowner
the game. His third total TD is another fifty dollars
for Kids at Food Basket and that makes six touchdowns
in this game. We still have over fifteen minutes to.

Speaker 2 (01:37:04):
Play in it.

Speaker 1 (01:37:06):
Three hundred dollars donated by LMCU to Kids at Food
Basket to help nourish the kids and help them reach
their full potential. Thom's not going to kick it off
a line drive kick that Francis will take it about
his own two yard line, running to the left this
time across the twenty and Francis hit and dropped at
about the twenty two yard line where Montague will go
to work. And we have a late flag coming in

(01:37:28):
from the near sideline, so they're going to get.

Speaker 4 (01:37:32):
A late hit there on Whitehall.

Speaker 3 (01:37:35):
I think give Montague a few extra yards there. Well,
you know, looking at you mentioned what Tony Sigmund has
done here now in his twelfth year here at Whitehall,
what he's done is he's brought stability to Whitehall. You know,
they Bruce Beck's or coach here for fifteen years. This
last year was two thousand and two. But when Bruce
Bexter left, it was a really a coaching carousel here

(01:37:57):
at Whitehall for.

Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
A number of years.

Speaker 3 (01:37:59):
Andy mail Off, then Dan Holden, and then Cliff Sandy,
who's now the athletic director at Rhys Puffer was the
coach for a year and then one year Cliff Sandy
and his brother Brent Sandy, now the head coach at Hudsonville,
were co coaches for a year. So really, you know
a lot of turnover in the coaching ranks. Tony Sigmund

(01:38:19):
is coming and really brought the stability that Whitehall has needed.

Speaker 1 (01:38:25):
So Monague is gonna run the football on first down
and they're gonna get a body yard. After the penalty,
the balls moved out to the thirty eight. Tholman gets
to carry for a yard to the thirty nine. Good
Rich along with Cayden Boyer, we're in there to make
the tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:38:38):
It'll be second down for Montague.

Speaker 9 (01:38:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
Again, it looks like Whitehall, you know, they don't have
a lot of players on their roster. Actually, I think
Montague may have a few more players dressed tonight. There's
a lot of injured players for Whitehall, but it seems
like they're using more bodies and definitely wearing down Montague.

Speaker 1 (01:39:00):
Second and nine, it's Jarker gonna throw it out quick
to Dylan Bailey, who catches the ball on his knees.
It's gonna be a loss of a couple as you're
down in high school football, as soon as your knees
are on the ground and his knees are on the
ground when he caught it, mark it back to the
thirty six. That's a three yard loss and it's third
and twelve.

Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
It's obviously not Montague's game, as you can tell.

Speaker 4 (01:39:19):
The passing game is not their game.

Speaker 3 (01:39:21):
They were hoping that this game would be resemble more
like the oak Ridge game from a few weeks ago,
where the defense was able to hold down the other
team and then allow their rushing attack to win the
game for him. But Whitehall they just put it in
a different gear here in the third quarter, just absolutely
pulling away from their rivals.

Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
And Montague is still looking for their initial first down
of this third quarter as they turn the ball over
round downs on their first possession. And now jark are
gonna roll left. Now he's gonna tucket and runnings across
the forty Jarker running all the way back to the right.
He's at midfield, he's got a first down. A light
flash comes in is Jarka gets thrown out of bounds
at about the forty five yard line of Whitehall.

Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
But we'll have to check the marker.

Speaker 3 (01:40:09):
Well, nifty piece of running there by River Jarko. We
talked about what a great athlete he is. He did
a great job making a big play out of nothing. Unfortunately,
it looks like an illegal block somewhere along that run
is going to bring most of it back.

Speaker 1 (01:40:25):
A tough spot for Montague. Down twenty eight points forced
with third down and twelve and Jarko made a play,
but it's going to come back on the flag. And
now it looks like jarc is cramping up a little bit.
He went out of bounds on the Montague sideline, the
far sideline across the way. He is still laying on
his back on the Montague sideline being tended to by
the coaching staff and now the training staff. So Eli

(01:40:49):
Peterson is going to return to the game to play quarterback.
He has taken two snaps at quarterback in this game,
both coming here in the third quarter. He was the
team's quarterback against four Stills Eastern in Week one, the
forty eight to seven loss, and then he saw some
time rotating with Jarka in each of the last two games,

(01:41:12):
wins over oak Ridge fourteen to seven and Orchard View
fifty five to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (01:41:17):
And now the clock is going to be stopped.

Speaker 1 (01:41:18):
The officials are going to call a time out here
and the teams will go to their sidelines.

Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
And you look at this.

Speaker 1 (01:41:25):
Oak Ridge in a battle with Lunnington right last week
heard time they were behind. But Whitehall, if this score holds,
will go to two to zero in West Michigan Conference
Lakes Division play. With wins over orchard View and Montague,
they still to play Oakridge, still to play Lennington, they
still play Maniste, and they still have to play Fremont.
But considering the fact that it'd be nineteen straight conference wins,

(01:41:46):
fourteenth straight since they split into the two divisions, I
think they were the favorite coming in and I think
they've certainly made a statement here that there's still the
team to beat in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.

Speaker 4 (01:41:58):
Oh, no question about it.

Speaker 3 (01:41:59):
I mean, people, if you just look at records, you
can get into a lot of trouble in high school football.
You have to look at who these teams are playing.
And Whitehall, you know, I think Tony Sigmund knew coming
into this year there was a chance they could be
one and two, but wasn't worried about it. And you
see why. They're obviously a very good football team. They

(01:42:20):
just played some tough teams and you had no question
they are the team to beat once again in the
West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.

Speaker 1 (01:42:27):
So we're set to resume play after the penalty. It
is third and eleven from the thirty seven and Eli
Peterson straight back to throw is arm may have been headed.
He let it go looking for Kellen Franzis in double coverage.
Thompson and Manzo both back there, ballfalls incompleteed it'll be fourth.

Speaker 3 (01:42:44):
Down, Yeah, fourth and eleven at their own thirty seven.
Even though you're down thirty five to seven, it's a
situation where you got to kick it away. You can't
just hand the ball back to Whitehall on deep in
your own territory.

Speaker 1 (01:42:57):
One more Viking score would of course start running clock.
There's a whole lot of pride involved in this.

Speaker 2 (01:43:05):
Rivalry.

Speaker 1 (01:43:06):
It was sixty to six two years ago, thirty five
nothing last year. If nothing else, Manki needs to keep
that running clock from happening.

Speaker 4 (01:43:13):
That's right, real, very disappointing.

Speaker 2 (01:43:15):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:43:15):
That was one thing they said they didn't know if
they'd win this game, but it wasn't going to be
a blowout. But it was a great game for the
first half. But now it's turning into a little bit
of a blowout.

Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
Everett punts it and Thompson takes it on a hop
at his own twenty four. He gets it back to
the thirty five, and that's where the Vikings will go
to work. With one twenty one to go in the
third quarter, time, should we checks to his scores?

Speaker 4 (01:43:37):
Yeah, let's do that. You know, we were talking about
grand Haven.

Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
They were leading fourteen to eight in that game, but
Caledonia has come back. They now lead grand Haven twenty
two to fourteen. Mona Shore is still leading Byron Center
fourteen to six. Muskegan twenty eight. Forrest Hill's Northern twenty one.
It's Reese Puffer forty one to nothing over Grand Rapids
Union West Catholic twenty one, Spring nineteen. And how about

(01:44:01):
this Luddington twenty four, Oakridge seven. In that other game
in the West Michigan Lakes tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:44:08):
On first down, the game goes right up the middle
of the Craner who's in the midfield, and into o
Kritch territory all the way.

Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
Down to the forty yard line.

Speaker 1 (01:44:16):
Twenty five yards on first down four Gavin Craner, Wow,
big hole right right up the middle there, Jamison Jeffrey,
the junior center, Jack Ambrose, and Connor.

Speaker 3 (01:44:28):
Nash over there on that left side, just springing Craner
who came looked like he was shot out of a
cannon on that play. And you know with the defense
of being a little bit fatigued, a little bit worn down,
ends up being a huge game.

Speaker 1 (01:44:44):
Well up Tonight's scores hold, Luddington and Whitehall would both
go to two and oho in WMC Lakes Division play
and be the only two undefeated left in the conference.
And the Orioles come here to Whitehall three weeks from tonight.
Cam Thompson gonna throw for Corda Anderson.

Speaker 2 (01:44:57):
Who hauls it in inside at the ten yard line.

Speaker 1 (01:45:01):
An incredible grab by the junior Anderson at the ages,
Tell and Francis had excellent coverage and Cordy Anderson went
up and got it.

Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
And that's again of thirty two and sets up first
and goal.

Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
I've been really impressed with the athletic ability of Cordy Anderson.
You know, Whitehall, they don't list the heights and weights,
but he looks like he's about six two six '
three maybe, and he's looked good blocking, he's looked good
defensively in that time. Great job going up and getting
that ball.

Speaker 1 (01:45:32):
Twenty six seconds left in the third quarter and white
Hell's going to hand a craner running left and not
much there. Several Montague defenders there to greet him. Looks
like number eight Cayden Jeffrey was in there, and that'll
be the last play of the first quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:45:53):
With our score Whitehall thirty five and Montague seven.

Speaker 1 (01:45:57):
We'll come back with the last twelve minutes of this
one on the LMCU Lake Short Game of the Week
on one oh seven.

Speaker 8 (01:46:03):
M us to move.

Speaker 1 (01:46:07):
Second and goal Whitehall in the six yard line as
we start playing the fourth quarter, and Thompson's gonna run
the option right and keep it.

Speaker 2 (01:46:13):
He's into the end zone for a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (01:46:18):
Can Thompson.

Speaker 1 (01:46:21):
With his third rushing touchdown to the game or an
extra point away from a running clock?

Speaker 2 (01:46:26):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (01:46:27):
They have completely turned this game around, led by Cam
Thompson and led by this offensive line. We mentioned a
few of these guys, but they've taken over control of
this game. And now, like you said, if they can convert,
if Bets can convert this extra point, we'll have that
thirty five point margin. And shocking, really, I don't think

(01:46:51):
anyone thought this game was gonna be a running clock
kind of game, and it didn't look that way for
two quarters.

Speaker 1 (01:46:56):
The extra point from Bets is up and good, and
that makes our score Whitehall forty two and Montague seven.
That white Hall scoring drive, that's the fourth scoring drive
of the second half, and they've all been under two minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
That won three.

Speaker 1 (01:47:17):
Plays, sixty five yards. It lasts one minute, twenty seven seconds,
and Camden Thompson scores his third rushing touchdown of the
game with a six yard run for forty two to
seven lead. Tom The white Hall touchdown drives in the
second half one play, two plays, four plays, and three

(01:47:37):
plays and just like that they scored thirty six straight points.

Speaker 3 (01:47:41):
Yeah, and they've turned what was a great competitive football
game into a into a route. We're looking at seeing
some of those Montague fans headed for the exit here
as this game has completely spiraled out of control, and
that that can happen. But again, I still believe this,
this Montague team playing could be a threat in Division

(01:48:05):
six in the playoffs. I just really believe that. I think,
you know, playing against a bigger school like Whitehall, they
run into problems when they can't get that push up front.
But I still think there's some talent on this Montague team.

Speaker 4 (01:48:18):
If they were able to get into.

Speaker 3 (01:48:19):
The playoffs, which they have the past two years with
losing records three and six in twenty twenty two, four
and five last year getting in the playoffs. I still
think this team has a shot to do something.

Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
Well, and they showed it the first half.

Speaker 1 (01:48:34):
I mean, they played well in the first half and
they've just kind of gotten kind of ran into a
buzzsaw here in this third quarter, in the first six
seconds of the fourth quarter. But that monag you team
he saw in the first half, there'll be a tough
out in Division six.

Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
I agree with you, Tom, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:48:46):
I think that touchdown right at the end of the half,
when it looked like Montague was going to go in
with a seven to six lead, allowing Whitehall to score
and take the lead at the half, ended up being critical.

Speaker 2 (01:48:58):
That kickoff bounces over the head of the return man.

Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
Francis goes back and picks it up, and when it
rains at poors, he is brought down at the five
yard line, and so Montague will start ninety five yards
away from the end zone, down thirty five points with
eleven forty seven to play.

Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
You said it perfectly there, Jay, when it rains at poors,
and that was just it. That kick ended up boultzing
high into the air over the head of Kellen Francis,
and by the time he fielded it, he was surrounded
by red jerseys for Whitehall, and it was and he
was tackled there the five yard line, ninety five yards away,

(01:49:34):
trailing forty two to seven. Not a good situation here
for Montague.

Speaker 1 (01:49:43):
So we saw jarka leave on the last Montague offensive
possession with what appeared to be cramps. Eli Peterson is
coming back into the game for the Wildcats at quarterback.
There is a penalty here on Whitehall, so the official
are going to mark it off. It's a fifteen yard

(01:50:04):
against the Viking, so instead of the five, Montague will
start from their own twenty. So a little bit of
a break for the Cats.

Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
Yeah, at least it gets them out of the shadow
of their own end zone. So boy, they'd like to
at least get on the scoreboard one more time before
this game is over.

Speaker 1 (01:50:24):
So first and ten Mount to go on their own
twenty yard line. At this point, you want to try
to get some offensive continuity. They have struggled a bit
to move the football here in the give is going
to go to Devlyn Dean, the sophomore, and he's got
nowhere to go. I'm not sure even got back to
the line of scrimmage as Whitehall was all over it,
Connor Nash making another play.

Speaker 4 (01:50:42):
You know, we talked about playoffs a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:50:44):
Meanwhile, for Whitehall interesting you know, they're a Division five team,
but the last couple of years they have elected to
play up in Division four, So they will be a
Division four team if they're able to get in the playoffs,
which I think they will. I think they're going to
get on a roll here in conference play and yeah,
you know they the playoffs have not been kind to them,

(01:51:06):
with a loss to South Christian a couple of years
ago a heartbreaker, and then sort of a shocking loss
last year to Big Rapids. But we'll see if this
tougher schedule works in their favor this year.

Speaker 1 (01:51:19):
Monegue once again just runs the ball right up the
middle game of about two, it'll be third and long.
You think about how tough Division four is around here,
and I get it. Division five isn't any easier. But
South Christian Unity Christian fours till's Eastern. I mean, getting
out of Division four in West Michigan is very difficult sprint.
Can we see? We saw spring like last week and

(01:51:40):
the Lakers get it right getting the playoffs. I mean
they're giving West Catholic a battle tonight at last check.

Speaker 4 (01:51:46):
Yeah, it definitely.

Speaker 3 (01:51:48):
I think that initial decision was to try to avoid
the West Catholic and Catholic Central, But you've mentioned some
of those other programs which have gotten better, and so yeah,
you're right.

Speaker 4 (01:51:58):
Division is no cakewalk either.

Speaker 1 (01:52:03):
Third down to eight, Peterson's gonna throw the bubble screen
to Kellen Francis, who's got it at the twenty five.
France is still on his feet at the thirty and
spins down to the thirty three. But it is a
first down from Montague.

Speaker 4 (01:52:14):
Well, beautiful play that time.

Speaker 3 (01:52:16):
That nice a screen there to Kellen Francis, beautifully delivered
by Eli Peterson. Moved the sticks, so nice looking pass
play there. It'll be interesting to see what Justin Dennett
does going forward again with that quarterback position. I know
you talked with him about that in your interview in
the coaches Corner, and I wouldn't be surprised, you know,

(01:52:40):
after seeing against a good team like Whitehall, their limitations
maybe more Eli Peterson at quarterback the rest of the year.

Speaker 1 (01:52:47):
Well, good news, Jarka has return to the game. He's
in the game. It's slot receiver, but they run the
ball with Thoeman and he gets about a yard out
to the thirty four yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:53:00):
We talked about how much coaching instability there's been at
Whitehall through the years before Tony Sigmund came here. It's
been the opposite at Montague. No other school in the
area as the kind of continuity they had. They only
had two head coaches in thirty five years. Jay Ken
Diamond was there for eighteen years, and then his former

(01:53:21):
quarterback Pat Collins took over for seventeen years, including three
state championships in that run. Justin Dennett now in his
fourth year.

Speaker 1 (01:53:30):
Pat Hewnen's had a great run here at Montague. Of course,
the head coach at West Ottawa now his pants are
trying to avoid start zhing.

Speaker 2 (01:53:35):
Four tonight take on East Kent.

Speaker 1 (01:53:37):
One of the pass from Peterson has complete to Kellen
Francis who hauls it in at midfield. Excellent ball from
Peterson and athletic play by Francis and Montague gets another
first time.

Speaker 3 (01:53:47):
Yeah, how about Kellen Francis having a pretty nice game.
We talked about him in the pregame. We talked about
his dad. Brad Francis is one of the assistant coaches
here for Montague, and his grandfather, Mick Francis, was a
legendary coach at Hopkins.

Speaker 1 (01:54:02):
Yeah, he was an assistant for a long time those
Rex Weaver teams. Then later with his other son Cody,
who's currently the head coach at Hopkins.

Speaker 2 (01:54:08):
Mick was a great man, a great man.

Speaker 3 (01:54:12):
And he's smiling, I'm sure watching his grandson. A couple
big catches on this drive.

Speaker 1 (01:54:18):
Under eight minutes to go, third quarter. Montague's got a
first intent just across midfield. Peterson gonna throw left off
the hands of talent Dean and incomplete and cam.

Speaker 2 (01:54:27):
Thompson laid the wood.

Speaker 1 (01:54:28):
They're gonna call a flag for unnecessary roughness on cam Thompson.
We're kind of a long ways away, but it looked
to me like he led with the shoulder and did
not hit the head. But they do throw a flag
here for unnecessary roughness.

Speaker 3 (01:54:43):
I tell you, Brett Bakeita, he's the birthday boy today.
He seems to get a good game every week.

Speaker 2 (01:54:49):
Jay, when we when are we gonna get some of
that Brebecket.

Speaker 3 (01:54:52):
That's what I'm wondering, but Molna Shore has had a
fourteen to six lead, Byron Center has scored. It's now
fourt team to twelve Mona Shores over Byron Center in
the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:55:03):
Yeah, you knew that game was gonna live up to it.
It just two great teams, great programs, head coaches.

Speaker 4 (01:55:12):
Yeah, it's a doozy on a Sailor Salute night.

Speaker 3 (01:55:15):
So it's in a great event and a great football
game over there at Sailor Stadium.

Speaker 1 (01:55:21):
So after the fifteen yard penalty, the ball has moved
down to the thirty five first and ten and they
give is to Thiming up the middle. No game for
Thoeman fifty two. Jack Ambrose made a lot of plays tonight.
Of course, he plays guard on offense, defensive end on defense,

(01:55:47):
nose tackle, whatever you need from him.

Speaker 2 (01:55:49):
He's made plays tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:55:51):
Second and nine from Montague ball now at the Whitehall
thirty four.

Speaker 4 (01:55:55):
Yeah, how about spring Lake.

Speaker 3 (01:55:57):
They just came back to take the lead on West
Catholic in the fourth corps twenty five to twenty one.

Speaker 4 (01:56:03):
Kind of a crazy night going on out there, Jay.

Speaker 1 (01:56:06):
Gus and they got Tag Kelly and Carson Hinback. Here's
the pass almost intercepted by Thompson. Peterson was trying to
get out there to Tall and Dean. It's incomplete. It'll
be third down and long now for Montague. Forty two
to seven clock continuing to run with the rules in
high school football. In the second half of a thirty
five point lead or larger, the clock will continue an

(01:56:28):
incomplete passes the ball going out of bounds.

Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
Six twenty five to go.

Speaker 1 (01:56:33):
Here in the ballgame, Whitehall is going to improve to
two and two in the season and two and zero
in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division, and they're gonna
win their fourth straight game against their White Lake rivals,
and that bell will reside on the south side of
the White River for another year at least. Peterson gonna
run it right up the middle. He's got a first down.

(01:56:53):
He's inside the twenty five to the twenty four. See
that's the river jarka play, but you don't expect it
with Peterson in the game, and it works for for Monacue.

Speaker 2 (01:57:02):
First down.

Speaker 3 (01:57:02):
Yeah, nice burst there by Peterson. He looked looked good
running the ball there. You know, it's this junior class
that's really.

Speaker 4 (01:57:08):
Good at Montague.

Speaker 3 (01:57:10):
They'll all be back next year and Montag you got
some good news last night. They won the JV game,
were able to hold on to beat Whitehall. So who knows,
maybe playing at home next year, could that be the
year that Montague gets the bell back. They were hoping
it was this year, but the second half by Whitehall
has been impressive.

Speaker 1 (01:57:30):
Give to Thoman on first down, he runs off left,
tackles inside the twenty, the JV Wildcats winning for the
second straight time, proving to two and two on the season.
Maybe it's gonna be another year with the bell, which
currently sits behind the Whitehall bench here on the near sideline,
staying here in Viking Country. Devlyn Dean, the sophomore who

(01:57:54):
showed some excellent burst in the first half run of
the football is next to Peterson who's in the gun
on second and fourth eighteen yard line, and Dean gets
to carry running left, hit and drop. Before you can
even get back to the line of scrimmage, Gavin Craner
was the first one to get there, love th seventy eight,

(01:58:17):
Kden Boyer also making the tackle there for Whitehall. It
be third down for Montague.

Speaker 3 (01:58:22):
Yeah, Monicu putting together a nice little drive here, it'll
be too little, too late. But they started way back
at their five yard line. They got that quick penalty
got them out to the twenty. But they're here inside
the red zone now.

Speaker 1 (01:58:34):
So on third down, Peterson fakes to give he's gonna
run it left. He does not get the first down.
Dyane Goodrich came flying in there to knock him back,
and it'll be fourth down in short and certainly Monticue
will go for it here.

Speaker 3 (01:58:47):
Yeah, you're right, Ryan Goodwich, and also Gavin Craner there.
They got some they've got some athletes on this white
Hall team, and they're uh, they're loving every minute of this.

Speaker 4 (01:58:57):
Another big win over their rivals STAY two.

Speaker 1 (01:59:00):
Coming up after the game, we'll have the Schaefer Schwartz
postgame show, will recap this one, look at stats, we'll
have a rapid radio scoreboard update. We'll name our play
of the game, our player of the game, and our
drive of the game. That's all coming up in another
three minutes and forty seconds. Peters are gonna roll right
on fourth and four and he's gonna throw intercepted. Intercepted

(01:59:24):
by Whitehall. It's number two Colssenbaggers, and.

Speaker 4 (01:59:36):
That's too bad.

Speaker 3 (01:59:37):
Jay Montague trying to force one in there, and cole Lesa.
Baggers just jumped the route. You're able to look like
you had a chance to take it all the way
back to the house.

Speaker 4 (01:59:49):
But nonetheless, well.

Speaker 1 (01:59:51):
You learn a lot about your team in a situation
like this, right, I mean, if you're gonna play one
game as a senior, you want to play against Montague
and two really good Hall seniors unable to go because
of injury, and so what happens is Blake English slides
from safety to corner. Essa Baggers plays safety. He does
a great job, right, and guys just stepping up for

(02:00:11):
Whitehall in some serious voids there.

Speaker 4 (02:00:14):
Yeah, very impressed.

Speaker 3 (02:00:15):
You know, they lost so many key players off that
great team they had last year, but they're reloading and
that's what good programs do.

Speaker 4 (02:00:23):
They have guys ready to come in.

Speaker 1 (02:00:25):
So Essa Baggers is in the game at quarterback. Now
he's the backup for Montague, and we see a lot
of backups in the game. Number twenty, Hunter Peterson, the junior,
gets the carry running right on the Jets sweep. He
goes for four yards out to the forty five yard line.

Speaker 3 (02:00:44):
Yeah, I'm doing a little figuring here trying to come
up with our awards for the end of this game.
We got three of them to give away, I believe correct.

Speaker 1 (02:00:53):
That is correct, So Ess Baggers in the shotgun. Essa
Baggers hands off to number eight running to the left,
turns the corner at midfield into Montague territory.

Speaker 2 (02:01:11):
Nice run that time by Cameron.

Speaker 1 (02:01:13):
Kikwam tackle that time.

Speaker 2 (02:01:20):
On the credit to number one, Cooper Bradley.

Speaker 1 (02:01:23):
They move it to the forty eight, so give him
seven yards and a Whitehall first down clock still running
a minute fifty four.

Speaker 3 (02:01:31):
Left a lot of clean jerseys out there right now, Jay,
which is good. We're seeing a lot of the reserves
getting time on both sides of the ball here in
the final two minutes.

Speaker 1 (02:01:45):
So on first down, the give will go to number
twenty one right up the middle, Max Krukowski, the junior,
gonna pick up a yard maybe two. Tackle made by
number twenty one, Caleb Schmidt, the junior inside linebacker filling.

Speaker 2 (02:02:01):
In for Riley Mulder.

Speaker 3 (02:02:04):
Yeah, looking ahead for Montague, you know they got a
what's looking like a much tougher trip than anticipated up
to Luddington next week. Luddington taking it to Oakridge tonight
at Russell Ericson Stadium where oak Ridge doesn't lose a
whole lot of games. And then Montague is hosting North Muskegan,

(02:02:25):
which will be another tough game, so a little bit
of a tough gauntlet here for the Wildcats.

Speaker 2 (02:02:32):
One more play is all it's gonna take.

Speaker 1 (02:02:35):
Is the clock runs down to forty four seconds in
Whitehall will emerge victorious for the fourth straight time in
the Battle for the Bell as the Baggers will just
take a knee with thirty five seconds left and they
will not need to snap it again. Whitehall is going
to go to two and oh in West Michigan Conference
Lake's Division play. It'll be their nineteenth straight West Michigan

(02:02:55):
Conference n they'll be.

Speaker 2 (02:02:58):
Fourteen and oh.

Speaker 1 (02:03:00):
Since the conference split into two divisions. As they dominate
in the second half, they score the final thirty six
points of the game.

Speaker 2 (02:03:08):
They outscore Montague.

Speaker 1 (02:03:11):
Twenty eight to nothing after halftime, and Whitehall beats Montague
tonight forty two to seven.

Speaker 2 (02:03:17):
The final score.

Speaker 1 (02:03:19):
Stay tuned because we have the Schaefer Schwartz PLC postgame
show coming up right after this time out. This is
the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on one
oh seven, m us the Moose, Whitehall forty two, Montague seven.
The Vikings on pink Out Night retain the bell for
a fourth straight year, knocking off their arrivals from across

(02:03:43):
the White River. This is the Schaeffer Schwartz postgame Show
Shaefer Schwartz PLC. If you have been injured in an
auto accident, make sure you have David Schaeffer on your side.

Speaker 2 (02:03:56):
David Schaeffer born.

Speaker 1 (02:03:57):
And raised in Muskegon County and proud to be a
order of high school football. Whitehall improves to two and
zero in West Michigan Conference Lakes Division play this season,
two and two overall. Montague falls to two and one
in Lakes Division play and two and two overall.

Speaker 2 (02:04:14):
This is Whitehall's first.

Speaker 1 (02:04:15):
Home win of the season, as they opened the year
with consecutive road games against Unity Christian and Orchard View.
They opened at home last week, where they sixty to
forty three loss against Zealand West tom This game though
seven to six Montague right before the half, the Vikings
score in the final play and they carried all that
momentum into the second half and just blew the doors off.

Speaker 3 (02:04:38):
Yeah that was really a you know, I don't know
if montague could have had a chance to win this game,
but I think if they're able to keep them out
of the end zone there right at the end of
the first half, go into the halftime with a seven
to six lead, I think it may have been a
little bit more competitive a game down the stretch. But instead,
you know, Whitehall really again cam Thompson extended that play

(02:05:00):
with his feet, was able to find Hunter Osbourne and
then that just seemed to spark Whitehall and then you know,
once the third quarter got going, it was just the
route was on.

Speaker 1 (02:05:13):
It is time to pick our drive of the game,
the beent And Chevrolet Cadillac gmc buick drive of the game.

Speaker 2 (02:05:20):
Time what are you gonna go with?

Speaker 3 (02:05:21):
Well, I think we have to go with that final
scoring drive of the first half there for Whitehall again,
you know it's you look at the final score forty
two to seven, but at that point in the game,
Montaguie was ahead seven to six and it looked like
they were going to go into the half with that
kind of lead. But instead Whitehall first three and out,
got the ball back and they went forty nine yards

(02:05:44):
and six plays covering two minutes. The final two minutes
and forty one seconds so the first half and the
it was I believe a fourth down play, was it not?
The scoring scoring pass, a thirteen yard pass from Cam
Thompson to Hantera Osbourne, the two point conversion right after that,

(02:06:06):
and suddenly Whitehall goes into half with the lead fourteen
to seven.

Speaker 4 (02:06:11):
So we're gonna make that our drive of the game.

Speaker 1 (02:06:14):
Hard to pick anything else. Incredible drive that certainly went
a long way towards determining this game. Beton Chevrolet, Cadillac,
GMC buick and Miskegan, They're the GM Giant. Visit them
on both sides of Henry Street today. Plenty more to
come on the Schaefer Schwartz PLC postgame show, including the

(02:06:35):
naming of our blue Water cabinetry and designed player of
the game, Mister B's Pancake House play of the game,
and we'll get one more rapid Radios scoreboard update and
then look ahead to week five of the high school
football season as well and talk about Muskegan and Mona Shores.
This is the LMCU Lake Shore game of the weekend,
one of seven. M us the Moose.

Speaker 2 (02:06:53):
We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (02:06:57):
We're back on the Shaefer Schwartz PLC postgame show where
White defeated Montague tonight forty two to seven the finals.
I vike, He's get a big game from senior quarterback
in safety Camden Thompson, who ran for three touchdowns, threw
a touchdown pass and also intercepted a pass in the
end zone while playing safety. And that leads us to

(02:07:18):
the Blue Water Cabintry and Design Player of the Game, Tom,
I'll give you the honors.

Speaker 3 (02:07:22):
Well, I think it's a pretty easy choice here tonight,
just with so many things that Cam Thompson does with
this Whitehall team. You know, he's the punter, he's the quarterback,
he has played receiver. We didn't see any of that tonight,
but defensively, you said in the pregame you were impressed
with the way he comes up and hits, and I

(02:07:42):
noticed that as well. He is a he is definitely
a football player. You know, some people think, oh, he's
just a basketball player playing football, but he's also a
great football player as well, and he showed that tonight.
Just a great night, extending plays with his feet, scrambling
for big plays and then also when he had to,
you know, hitting passes for at key times like Connor

(02:08:08):
Osborne there right at the end of the first half.
So with that in mind, I think our Bluewater Cabinet
Tree and Design player of the game, Cam Thompson.

Speaker 1 (02:08:17):
Bluewater Cabinet Tree and Design, The Lake Shore is trusted
Kitchen and Bath provider is proud to be a supporter
of high school football.

Speaker 2 (02:08:28):
All right, let's get one more look at our rapid
radio scoreboard update.

Speaker 1 (02:08:31):
Tom.

Speaker 3 (02:08:32):
Yeah, it's been a crazy night all around the area.
There's not many nights where you know, there's so many games.
Looks like a lot of upsets. But what a game
over at Mona Shores. The Sailors hold on for a
fourteen to twelve win over Byron Center. Just a great
match up there. Muskegan they're in a tussle. A high

(02:08:53):
scoring game at Hackley Stadium. Last report they led Forest
Hill's Northern thirty four to twenty eight. Rhyes, Pouffer, no
problem and they're okay. Green matchup with Union forty eight
to seven. A back and forth game at grand Haven
last report Caledonia thirty six, Grand Haven twenty eight. And

(02:09:16):
Spring Lake putting up a great fight at West Catholic.
We have West Catholic twenty eight, spring Lake twenty five,
Luddington kind of surprising here thirty one to fifteen over
oak Ridge in the fourth quarter. Manistee shuts out orchard
View forty two to nothing, Ravana fifty five, Shelby fourteen,

(02:09:38):
and Fruitport twenty one, Muskegan Catholic fourteen. This is a
little bit of a surprise. How one sided this game
was Fremont forty one Grant six. So that's a rivalry game,
Fremont all over Grant and then another kind of surprisingly
lopsided score Kent City thirty and Heart six.

Speaker 1 (02:09:56):
So for good stituted the high School Scoreboard Show with
rig Berkeley. We'll get a complete update from a lot
of games around the area, including John Arder who's at
that Fruitport Miskegan Catholic. Central Football game scoreboard updates all
season one provided by Rapid Radios. Our game reporters are
aided by instantaneous communication provided.

Speaker 2 (02:10:13):

That's Rapid Radios dot Com one more award to give away, Tom.
It's the mister Bees Pancake House play of the game.

Speaker 3 (02:10:31):
And I think in this game, it's pretty easy to
see the play that changed the momentum in this game.
Montague leading seven to six right at the end of
the half and time running out, there was time for
just one play. It was either going to be a
Whitehall touchdown or it was going to be nothing, and
it was gonna be Montague going in with the lead.

(02:10:51):
But cam Thompson, like he did all night, he extended
the play, got out of the potential sack, and it's
allowed time for Hunter Osborne to get open in the
corner of the end zone and then he delivered the
ball to him for a thirteen yard touchdown pass Cam
Thompson to Hunter Osborne as time expired in the first half.

Speaker 4 (02:11:13):
H have to be our play of the game.

Speaker 1 (02:11:17):
It's so telling that the player of the game, the
play of the game, and the drive of the game
all really come down to that final play the second quarter,
which just turned the entire tide of this football game.
Mister Bees Pancake House play of the game, Mister Bee's
Pancake House is celebrating fifty years of serving the Muskegon area.
We're gonna take one final time out here in the
shape of shorts PLC postgame show.

Speaker 2 (02:11:36):
We'll come back and wrap it up from Whitehall Middle School.

Speaker 1 (02:11:39):
This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week
and one O seven mus the Moose. Whitehall knocks off
arrival Montague tonight forty two to.

Speaker 2 (02:11:47):
Seven, the final on pink out Night.

Speaker 1 (02:11:49):
The Vikings go to two to oher in West Michigan
Conference Lakes Division play. That's nineteen straight West Michigan Conference
wins and they're fourteen and oh now. In the two
plus years since the West Michigan Conference split into the
Lakes and Rivers Division, the Vikings continue to dominate the
West Michigan Conference, and they dominated this game in the
second half for the fourteen to seven lead at the break.

Speaker 2 (02:12:11):
They outscore them out.

Speaker 1 (02:12:12):
Again twenty eight to nothing after half, and they score
the final thirty six points in this game after Montague
led seven to six late in the second quarter. As
Tom was telling us in the Rapid Radio scoreboard update,
Miskegan leading forces are in thirty four to twenty. They
just started the fourth quarter of that game, I'm thinking
I might be able to get down to Hackley Stadium
to catch the end, especially.

Speaker 2 (02:12:32):
If it comes out of the wire.

Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
Will be at Hackley Stadium next Friday night, tom Mona
Shores who gets the big win of a Byron Center.
If Muskegan can hold on, they'll both be one to
zero to start. Okay, green play and of course we
know what that game has meant the last several years
and could be a playoff preview as well.

Speaker 3 (02:12:50):
Yeah, it should be a great game again, you know.
So far this year Mona Shores has been the more
impressive team than Muskegan, but that game, it just seems
like mskeige and they find a way almost every time
to beat Mona Shores. Could this be the year that
Matt Koziak and the Sailors turn the tables and are
able to beat Muskegan. Should be a great game, you know,

(02:13:12):
we say that a lot. We haven't had a lot
of great games this year, but hopefully that one. I
love going to Hackley Stadium on a Friday night, no
better place to be and so it should be a
great matchup again. A lot of those games like tonight's
game Byron Center and Mona Shors and that game next
week Mona Shores and Muskegan a lot of them that
could be the one of one of two, could be

(02:13:33):
a playoff game. Those same teams could meet again come
district time.

Speaker 1 (02:13:38):
You know, I'm gonna catch a whole lot of heat
for this tom because I just don't think like everybody else.
But my rankings, I had Mona Shores two and Byron
Center three. I know Rockford's in some trouble and they
might lose. That might mix things up, But assuming a
Rockford win, I'm not gonna change that. Like that played
out exactly like I thought. Two number three team played

(02:14:00):
the team I had number two won by two points. Sure,
everybody's gonna drop Byron Center for losing, but that's just
not the way.

Speaker 2 (02:14:06):
I see it.

Speaker 3 (02:14:07):
Okay, Well, yeah, so we'll yeah, we'll see what all
those rankings come out.

Speaker 4 (02:14:11):
Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 3 (02:14:12):
People get penalized, maybe too much for a narrow loss
against a great team. You know, just because it's a loss,
that doesn't mean you have to move up an undefeated
team above them. So yeah, okay, I'll think about it
as I do my top ten next week.

Speaker 1 (02:14:25):
Anybody doesn't think that way. Of course, I'm not looking
too good at my Grandville pick. I had the Bulldogs
fifth in the area despite being going three. They've been
behind all night to Jennison, although Granville has just taken
the lead late in the fourth quarter of that game.

Speaker 2 (02:14:39):
In fact, now they've extended.

Speaker 1 (02:14:40):
It to a forty five thirty five leads, So Grandville
looks like they're gonna get their first win of the season,
but struggling with Jennison's for most of the night. So
that's gonna just about do it for us. From Whitehall
where the Vikings beat Montague tonight, very much would like
to thank Whitehall Athletic director and of course boys Varsity
had basketball coach Christian sub for his hospitality tonight. That

(02:15:01):
people at Whitehall are always always great to us, and
that was the case again tonight. Also like to thank
head coach of Montague Justin Dennett, head coach of Whitehall
Tony Siegmund. Both wonderful people and always a pleasure to
talk to, and they certainly assisted greatly in Tom and
I's ability to call the game tonight. So until next
Friday at Hackley Stadium, we'd like to thank Brian Thomas

(02:15:25):
our executive producer back in the studio, John Arder who
was at Mischgan Catholic Central tonight, Rick Burkie in the
high school scoreboard show for Tom Kender. This is Jason
Hutton once again the final score or white Hall forty two, Montague,
seventh

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
