Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
we've got the three things you need to know to
get your Tuesday, August fifth started while it was one
month ago yesterday, we lost one hundred and thirty people
from raging floodwaters in the heart of the Hill Country.
Since then, thousands of volunteers have shown up to help

(00:23):
in the rebuilding memorials or all over while Tonia on
the River one of the landmarks being rebuilt. Damage cabins
have been torn down, new ones being built higher up.
They've set up a GoFundMe help rebuild Waltonia after devastating floods.
Thirty thousand has been raised so far, up the one
hundred thousand dollars gold Now. They did have testimony on

(00:45):
the preparedness that happened after the flood's. Kirk County Emergency
Management said that there were many missed opportunities. Nobody was
around to properly sound the alarm soon enough, and sirens
they say were installed at other counties. They didn't install
them there because many didn't want them. Now the focus

(01:07):
is on implementing new life saving changes. And besides Austin,
Californians are flocking to this city. Yes, this city is
our city, Houston, specifically Harris County. Yes, especially from Los Angeles.
We had twenty three hundred move from Los Angeles into
Harris County in just one year alone.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
And the number one reason.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Afford a billion yep. So weather today pretty nice. We
do have a twenty percent chance of a shower. We've
got to going up to ninety three right now. It's
seventy seven in Uptown and Europe to date on sunny.
Tell me something good brought to us by our friends
at Goodwill Houston.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Well, the Beatles, that huge series of sculptures.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Made by the late David Addics being packed up and
moving away from Eighth Wonder Brewery. So sad, but they're
going to have a new home soon. The Demontron of
clear Lake, the dealership there along the Golf Freeway, they
are going to be moved and put out in that
area in Webster. George Demontron was a friend of Addics,

(02:10):
and he says he just loves the statues of Paul
and George and John and Ringo, and he actually wants
to kind of move him around to all his dealerships.
He met David Addos at a dinner party that he hosted,
fell in love with him, said he was the life
of the party. He now has about thirty of Addics'
works over the year.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Wow, pretty cool, producer Anthony Dane. This is really cute.
A guy on TikTok recently posted two videos of his
mom's birthday cake from the HIV bakery being flipped over
by a cashier, and then he did it again with
another cake that literally says do not flip. The cashier
not only turned it upside down, he even shook it
to create it even bigger mess. Hib responded to in
the comments, saying, we want to make this ride. But

(02:50):
they eventually caught on that it was actually a little
bit of a prank, but not a prank on them.
The guy who posted it share the sweet story behind
the prank for those curious. This is a little birthday
prank for my mom. This actually happened to her fifteen
years ago and we still laugh about it. So I
asked the worker to help me recreate it. HIV going
above and beyond to help with this brank. Y'all are
the best, and then he also think the cashier for

(03:11):
playing along as well. It's so sweet to see and
thank you AGV always going above and beyond.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
And that cake looks amazing. I know it's so good. Okay,
So why did the Ducks cross the street.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Because some Precinct four Constable deputies helped them. It was
a long two ninety near Mushki Road that a very
determined Mama Duck and her babies were trying to cross
the highway. I mean, it's crazy. So somehow those deputies
work their magic. They were able to slow the traffic
and work as a team so Mama Duck and her

(03:46):
little past could get across safely. Mark Herman with the
Harris County Constable Precinct four is thanking everyone who helped
them achieve this almost impossible feat and he would love
you to download their new mobile app for all kinds
of traffic situations. It's the letter C the number four
now for details. So it's pretty cool and for our

(04:08):
feel good stories. Each weekday mornings set a preset on
the new and improved iHeartRadio app to Sonny Natty nine
point one Sunday naety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety
of the eighties, nineties, and today on Data with producer Anthony.
I watch my mother in law when we go out
to eat, and before she even tastes a taste of
her steak or her salad or whatever it is.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
She salts it outa just she just gotta haveb it,
put salt on. Oh No, And I used to say something,
I don't say it anymore. It's just the way she is.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
My husband was doing it, and I finally got him
to taste it before he salts it. Yeah, And it
was funny because it was our nearly impossible question. Forty
percent of us salt our food before we even taste.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
It without even Yeah, that's crazy to assume there's just
not enough salt.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
It's not going to be up to snuff. Guys, like
all the time. I don't salt my foods.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
My husband always when I cook, my husband always salts
his food. Doesn't need to taste it because I just
don't put extra salt on it.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
Rare.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah, restaurants do, though, so you really don't need to
add extra salt to restaurant food there. That's the other thing.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
They are very into salt and butter and flavors to
make it rich and delightful.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I try to do the opposite, Yeah, I do.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
So I could see where Bob is going to salt
my food because I just I just don't use it
that much.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
The only thing I really do.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
When I'm baking or roasting a chicken my only and
I get fresh chickens from out at a farm, I
put salt and pepper on it.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
That's it. And I do like it salty.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
But you're not using a lot of other seasonings though,
Like that's not me.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, that's like the main thing, yes, and then it
really salt really does help bring out the flavor.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Of course, when is enough enough, I know, you do
get to a certain point and you're like, I think
I'm good. But if he and I know Bob likes
to eat out a lot, I think maybe that too.
He just got used to it being at a certain level.
And so now it's just you know, do you know.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
When Bob and I first started dating, I loved beer
and I loved wine, and Bob loved iced tea. So
I moved to Texas and I want and I thought
this is what everyone did. He would take eleven packets
of sugar open them up to put them in his teeth,
even no eleven pack it was always eleven packets sugar.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
That's wild.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
And so I'm having babies, gaining weight from having babies,
and Bob's having like sugar and gaining weight from Do
you know when he stopped and he just stopped one day,
he lost so much weight that's well.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Of course he didn't know. It was just like a habit,
just like salting your food.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Crazy.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
And I would always talk to him like not well,
maybe I did nag him, but I just couldn't understand
what are you doing sugar?

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Really? I imagine that takes a while too to do,
even to try to rip eleven. I mean like I'd
literally watching and counting him. What is that is that
number seven or eight were home?

Speaker 1 (06:59):
And then all the paper and they didn't drink that
much iced tea in Long Island so well except Long
Island iced teas that's a whole.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Those are good. But he would have all his little
sugar wrappings all on the table. It's like this car. Anyway,
we'd love to hear from you. Are you a food salter?
Do you just salt before you even test?

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Just because and if you do why seven one three, two,
one two five ninety nine one from Keston's Best Body
of the eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony,
and we're talking about salting your food before you even
taste it. Forty percent of us do that. We learned
that this morning at six forty our nearly impossible question.
We're asking about your salting your food habits. We've got

(07:40):
Adam calling in from Katie. Now, you're a cardiac caf
lab technician. W do you know about the effect of
too much salt on your body?

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Adam?

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Oh? Yeah, you start retaining fluids, all right, So Adam
sees that.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
So with that knowledge, Adam, do you salt your food?

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Unfortunately? Sometimes I do, not all the time.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
But here's a question. Do you salt your food before
you even taste it?

Speaker 4 (08:03):
No? No, no, no, I don't have that bad habit.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Okay, that's good.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
How did you get to become a cardiac cath lab technician?

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Yeah? Well, I mean I went to X ray school first,
and then after that I just got curious. I'm like, oh,
you know what what else is out there besides X ray?
So when you specialize in cardiology, you actually help the
doctors put in stants and pacemakers, so people who have
heart attacks, that's who you go. Then you go into
the cath lab and you see.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Me wow, because my dad had a stint put in
it herman memorial out and Katie and it was an
amazing procedure, changed his life.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Yeah, that's what we do. I'm not the doctor, I'm
just the tech helping out right right.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
And the one thing I learned after it, which they
didn't tell me about until after, he had to like
lie down in bed for four hours.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
He could not move after the surgery exactly.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
I mean I was if not, he's going to bleed
through the growing that's what we go through.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Everybody's brown whoa.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
And that means I had to sit there at him
with my father. And it's ironic that your name is
Adam because that's my brother's name, and my dad was
not a fun guy to sit with. But I went
and got him food and just fed him food and
that seemed to keep him quiet. You guys do amazing
things with that, So Adam, thank you for sharing.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
That's amazing, appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Thanks.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
So we've learned if you salt your food too much,
you're going to retain fluid, and you're going to see Adam,
so hold off, hold off, see Adam would would be
a delight, I'm sure, Adam, thank you so much for sharing,
thanks for listening.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
Sure, no problem, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Having the bigg
