Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and Today Dana in the Morning and producer
Anthony and the Three Things You Need to Know to
get your Thursday or Anthony Friday e Yes, August seventh started.
How many people came to visit Houston in twenty twenty
four It's staggering fifty four million. That's up from about

(00:23):
nine percent from twenty twenty three. And how much money
did they spend here? Eleven billion dollars. This comes from
a glowing report from a research group, Tourism Economics for Houston.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
First, pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Hey, if you're doing one last vacation with the family
before the start of school, anyone going to the airport
is going to love this.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Security just got easier for families.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Some US airports adding dedicated family lines to security checkpoints.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
It's part of the Families on the Fly initiative.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
You can go to TSA dot gov all the details
and to get registered at a discount.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Through October thirty first. And this weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Speaking of discounts, yeah, it's a tax free weekend. You
say you spend one hundred and twenty five dollars per
kit at HB School supplies everything for back to school.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
With taxes, it.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Would be one hundred and thirty six dollars, but with
the tax free weekend it comes in at one twenty seven.
It's about eight dollars you're saving per child. It really
adds up. It's Friday through Sunday and you get clothes, backpacks, shoes,
anything under one hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Bucks per item will qualify.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
And your weather today it's going to be nice, sunny,
kind of hazy right now and hot ninety eight for
the high but we've got a thirty percent chance of
showers right now seventy eight and uptown. And you're up
to date from Sunday ninety nine point one. Tell me
something good brought to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Well, the Port of Galveston.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Had a plan, a mission for the future that they
started around twenty nineteen and they have done everything they
said and the futures looking good. But they don't want
to do it alone. No, they're asking for your help.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Port of Dalveston wants to chart their bold new course
and they want to ask you what you think would
be the best. They're having an open house for the
public and it's going to be at Terminal twenty eight
on Wednesday, August thirteenth, from.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Four until six. That's pretty exciting.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
It is for Anthony Dane. This is also exciting. HIV
ready to open up a new one of their value
brand stores. I've never been to one. It's their Job's
Smart Shop. This one is coming to North Houston. The
fifty five thousand square foot store marks Jovi's eleventh location
in Houston. They launch back in twenty ten. They now
employ more than twenty three hundred HIV employees, and as
their value brand store, they love to promote their bundle

(02:39):
boxes with meat, chicken, and seafood options starting at just
twenty bucks. That's not bad. Even dollar deals on a
wide assortment of fruits, veggies, and bakery offerings as well.
This definitely sounds like a great place to add into
the rotation. It's Achiv's Jobe's Smart Shop coming to North
Houston off I forty five West Road area. Grand opening
coming in less than two weeks August twentieth. Why didn't
I know that was an HIV brand either?

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Easy never Thank you for letting us off, and thank
you neighbors. You know your persistence really pays off.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
And here's the proof.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Residents of Independence Heights are saying hallelujah. They have this
large illegal dumping site right behind Booker T. Washington High
School and they have been complaining to the City of
Houston calling three to one one for a long time.
Never got any confirmation of the call. Nothing until yesterday. Yep,

(03:30):
the City of Houston Solid Waste crew Boo the Angels
showed up cleaned up that pile in less than an hour.
Solid Waste Management said they will continue to monitor that
area or any more illegal dump man. Just because you
didn't get a response, doesn't mean they weren't listening, because
there's proof.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Keep at it.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
He was, Keep at it, that's right. And for our
feel good stories. Each weekday mornings set a preset on
the new and improved iHeartRadio app to Sonny naety.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Nine point one Sunny naety nine point.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
One's best variety of the eighties nineties and today it's
seven eleven.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Now I'm Daniel and he saw Anthony.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
It got Houston's best variety and a really hot day.
Yes for your Thursday, it's going to be partly sunny.
We'll go up to ninety eight. I know it gets
super hot when we go back to school.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
It's oh yeah, it is.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
I know. We do have a thirty percent chance of
rain though, which cool. It'll cool things off for a
bit until the steamy sauna comes back again. And right
now it's seventy eight in Uptown. I went out to
Gallery Furniture yesterday. I go out and meet with Mac
once a week and we just talk about his life,
things that are going on in the news, his childhood,
when he was a baby, being a sibling with all

(04:38):
these there. He was one of six kids, his mom,
his dad, and how he is the man he is
today and Anthony I have. I told Mac, I just
love coming out and talking with you. And yesterday we
went out and as a tribute to the Lamar Little
League team, we sat on his throne of bat's chair.
That is amazing. It's right as you walk into Gallery Furniture.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
And we talked about his speech, a kind of pump
you up speech, a motivating speech for Houston area bus drivers.
As a matter of fact, it was conro isd that
invited him out and we're gonna get that up on
our Instagram at Sunday ninety nine Houston, so you can
hear it from Max's own mouth what he told those teachers.
After we were done, I said, Mac, you gave me

(05:20):
a perspective on bus drivers I never ever was wise
enough to think of, and I really appreciate it. And
it's it's just so important. He's got all of his machisms. Yeah,
special way of thinking about things. And then he said, well, here,
here's my whole speech. So he gave me his iPad
and just let me scroll through the whole speech.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
That's cool.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Do you mind if I take pictures of this because
it's giving me goosebumps right now and I really love
to read some of it on the air.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
He said, absolutely, Dana, do it.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
So I'm going to read you a portion of Mac's
speech coming up that he read to the bus drivers.
It is the most beautiful, motivating speech I think I've
ever heard. And so you bus drivers, teachers, any educator,
you must listen.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I'll tell it to you coming up next on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
It's Amazing Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety
of the eighties nineties, And today I'm Dana with producer
Anthony and I had a great time chatting with Mac
yesterday about his motivational speech he gave to bus drivers
earlier this week out at Conroe, ISD. Now, Anthony, could
you motivate a bus driver for twenty minutes?

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Could you come up with that minutes?

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah, a twenty minute or so speech just to motivate them,
like you can do the typical things.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Yeah, and you know you're great. We love you.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
I remember my bus driver. But Mac went so much deeper,
and he told me a little bit about it. We're
going to put that interview up on our Instagram at
Sunday ninety nine Houston.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
But then he said, Dana, I mean, he just kind
of summed up his speech for me.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
But then he said, here, read my speech, and he
gave me his iPad and I was like, Mac, I mean,
he had four hundred people in the audience. Why And
I said, this is the most I never would have
thought of this.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
So what he did?

Speaker 1 (07:07):
So I took pictures of it, and I said, is
it okay if I read this on Sunday?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Go sure, take it, but I know you canna have it.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
So let me read just some of the things that
he said to our incredible bus drivers he says, you
don't just drive a bus, You carry futures. Every child
who climbs the board is carrying something. Some carry joy,
others carry heartbreak. Some have had breakfast, others haven't eaten
since Lenia yesterday. Some feel loved and supported at home,

(07:34):
others not so much. But every one of them deserves kindness.
Every one of them deserves safety. Every one of them
deserves someone who shows up. And you do that every day.
You create structure, you create routine, and when you show
up rain or shine, you remind those kids I'm here,
you matter. The day is going to be okay.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
He says.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
You might not get applause, you might not get attention,
but I want you to know you get respect, You
get admiration, and you get gratitude from every parent, every teacher,
every administrator in this school district. So when you sit
in that driver's seat, take a breath and remember this.
You are a difference maker. You are a role model.

(08:17):
You are a life changer. You don't need a cape
to be a hero. You just need a bus route
and a heart for service.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Oh my gosh, holy caw.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
So to all you love this boy.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
If Max got your back, everyone's got your back, and
we truly, truly.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Every one of you. Every word of that is is
so true.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I just love you. I just love it.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Leave it to Mac.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
He says, you don't know which one kind word is
going to help prevent a meltdown or a breakthrough. You
may never know the impact that you make, but make
no mistake, you are making it. So lift your head
high and know that you are Hold on just a
second my phone, just and know that you are part
of something bigger than just a job, part of a

(09:00):
network of carrying adults who build better mornings, better kids.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
And better lives. I'm I'm fired up. That's incredible. He
is the best. I'm mad mat wow.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
And once again the interview I had with him. He's
sitting in his bat chair out at gallaxytch like baseball bats.
It's an amazing chair. You will find it up on
our Instagram at Sunny ninety nine. Houston and Mac, thanks
for your time and thanks for all you do for
our city.
