Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the three Things you Need to Know to get your Tuesday,
January fourteenth started well, we do have an arctic cold
front headed to town expected this weekend, hard freeze on Martin
Luther King Day on Monday, and it's mainly going to

(00:23):
be the north of I ten. And that's after we
hit the seventies on Friday. I mean, once again, welcome
to winter in Houston. You never know. If you don't
like it, don't worry, it'll change the next day. Right now,
the marathon's on Sunday, and runners are going to love
the start of the race. I was just talking with
Cliff Saunders at our sister station seven forty KTRH. He

(00:43):
says he's only half crazy, so he's doing a half marathon.
Loving the forecast. So we're going to start around thirty
eight degrees when race starts, and then gusty winslow. That's
the problem that could not be good for you. It's
going to feel like it's twenty eight, but then it'll
warm into the forties during the race. So ally for
you runners love it and the number one complaints, I

(01:05):
should say the top complaints compiled in the three to
one one city service calls missed trash hiccups and they
said solid waste related issues like mysed recycling, heavy trash
pickup made the top complaints. City council is doing some
work trying to find some solutions. They're thinking about a

(01:27):
trash fee and they actually just did a study about
the effects of imposing a trash fee. The results should
be out within the next month. Now, weather today, it's
gonna be cool, super cloudy too. Rain tomorrow. We're only
going to be about fifty three for the high Right now,
it's forty two in uptown and you're up to date
on sunny. Tell me something good brought to us by

(01:50):
our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well, everyone wants to live
in the Houston area, especially these two hot zip codes.
Houston is the hottest place for home sales in the
entire country. According to Open Doors annual report. The two
most popular places here are the zip codes seven seven
four nine three and Katie is number one, just behind

(02:12):
it seven seven four three three the zip code in Cyprus.
Last year, they were flipped. So the moral of the
story is everyone loves Katie and Cypress. Oh Tomball also popular.
They came in number four the zip code seven seven
three seven seven Pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Pray Sir Anthony Danaar Chevron Houston Marathon coming up this weekend.
One of those running this year in the Aramco Houston
Half Marathon is Carrie Bradshaw. She said a journey to
get to the race. She's a former high school soccer
player who's run ten marathons, over sixty half marathons, and
at the age of forty, she felt something off. She
checked with doctors and after some investigating, they discovered she
had congenital bilateral hip dysplasia, something she was born with

(02:52):
where her hips never formed correctly.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
She was concerned, but decided just to go through with surgery.
She had her left hip done first in less than
five months, had her right hip replace. There were no
guarantees she was gonna run again, but now it's easier
for her to get to the start line than it
is to get through security. And this Sunday she's gonna
be running her eight half marathon. Since she got her
new hips, she's even got more runs in her sits
like the Boston Marathon. So good luck Cary Bradshaw this

(03:16):
weekend during the Chevron Houston Marathon, showing us all what's possible.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Carrie Bradshaw, isn't that the city? I thought I caught
that too. Yeah, anyway, hey, where does he get the energy?
James Beard Award winning chef hugo Ortega he is planning
to open his second downtown restaurant. I think he's got
six restaurants all together, but his second downtown restaurant, it's
gonna happen this summer. He is the most decorated Mexican

(03:40):
born chef in Texas. Don't know the name of the restaurant,
nor do we know other details other than it will
open in this summertime, and we do know the location,
fifteen fifty Lamar overlooking Discovery Green Park. So we are
very blessed to have him here in Houston.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, we are.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Now tell me something good. Always have it up for
you at sundaynightety nine dot com. You can also follow
us on Facebook, x, TikTok, and Instagram. Sunday Nighty ninet
twenty one Houston's Best Variety of the eighties, nineties and
today seven twenty one. Now we're talking about how we
got our jobs and was luck involved. Some say that
they had their lucky underwear on when they got their job.

(04:21):
And we're asking you about your job. And Troy calling
in from the medical center. Now, you're a musician, Chris,
exactly what you do?

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Well? Tonight I'm playing at Dan Electros tonight. It's one
of the largest blues music clubs in the city of Houston.
And then Thursday, I'm playing at Green Oaks Tavern. It's
in the Humble, Texas area. Just essentially, I play pretty
much every night in the city somewhere. I play at

(04:49):
a couple of different churches on Sunday morning, and I'm
also an audio engineer, so I'm fortunate enough for my
life to actually revolve around music. I see my family
with every music related and I love it. I'm one
of the few people who loves everything about my job.
Every time I go to work. You know, it's a
bit of a hustle because I work on different sides

(05:09):
of town on different days of the week, different night
and whatnot. But I love it. I'm able to actually
make a decent living and feed my family, and I
do not hate to go to work.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Ever, Oh wow, now you're just making us dream much.
So when did you realize this was your life's purpose
to bring joy in the form of music.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
I will be one hundred percent honest with you. I
realized it was my life's purpose when I recognize that.
No matter how depressed I got during something about life,
during a situation that was going on my mom and
my dad split up when I was really young, some
of the only things that ever brought me comfort during
my darkest times were the fact that music was able

(05:53):
to manipulate my emotions somehow to help my perspective, be
able to go back to more of an objective faith.
And only musical was able to do that. And I said,
at that point, if music holds this power, I want
to wield that power to help you. I didn't have
much of a gift. Hey, I was always a book guy.
I was a good kid in school, and I tried

(06:16):
to play football, and so essentially the coach was like, hey, man,
second string on the football game, or you could be
a superstar in the band. I said, yeah, I like that.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Wow, excellent, Troy. You are just a delight and I'm
glad you listened to the music that we play here
on Sunday. I hope it brings you a little bit
of joy in the mornings.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
It absolutely does. I'm driving my son to school and
I was just singing. My son was looking at me
like I was crazy.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yes, that is excellent, but what's your son's name?

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Jeremiah Being in the car with me, he can hear you.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
A great day, and it was so fun talking to
your dad. I'm glad you guys got through.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Thank you so much. Y'all have a good day.
