Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Daniel with producer Anthony and
we've got the three things you need to know. By
the way, we also have Houston's Best Variety of the eighties,
nineties and today and the three things you need to
know to get your Monday, September twenty ninth started, well,
the Astros are out. I mean we tried, right, Anthony,
we tried. Cleveland beat the Rangers on Saturday, so Astros

(00:22):
won't be in the playoffs as cle Cleveland gets that
postseason slot. So the last time this happened where the
Astros missed the playoff was in twenty sixteen out, so
we need some good news. The Texans, the zero and
three Texans are giving it to us. YEP. Over the
weekend they beat the Titans on home turf twenty six

(00:43):
to nothing. A win is a win and we are
very excited about that. And it was just announced Bad
Bunny is going to be hosting the Super Bowl halftime
show at Levi Stadium, fresh off his Puerto Rican residency,
drew more than a half a million lee All nominees
at the Latin Grammys in November. He is one of

(01:03):
the world's most esteemed artists had a three time is
a three time Grammy winner, and he got the name
bad Bunny. Well, it sounds like a Christmas story. He
was six years old. His teacher made him put on
a bunny costume. He had a mean look on his face.
He posted that picture and the name bad Bunny. Stop.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
The rest is history.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Good story, really cute story. So weather today, Yeah, it's
starting out cool, but it's gonna end up like summer.
We're gonna go up to ninety two. Real Sonny right
now sixty five in uptown and eure up to date
on sunny. Tell me something good brought to us by
our friends at Goodwill Houston. This guy is a full
on hero. There was an accident that happened on SH

(01:45):
ninety nine year Northwest exit. An accident. A car caught
on fire after slamming into a guardrail rail. The driver
was out of control. Enter Fabian Goutirez. He risked his life,
got over to that burning car, was able to pull
the driver out, burned hands, and all I was seeing

(02:06):
pictures of his burned hands. He attributes his courage to
his faith. He says it empowered him to act despite
the obvious danger and Apparently he relied on a bracelet
in which Psal twenty three is there. Even though I
walk through the valley of the Shadow of Death, I
shall fear no evil. For your staff and Rod comfort me. Yep,

(02:28):
Psalm twenty three. That's what saved that driver's life. And
he said he looked at the driver and he said,
I know this guy does not want to leave the
earth this way.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Amazing, So Fabian Goutara, as you are our hero, producer
Anthony Dane, all this lower humidity as people ready for fall,
and how timely.

Speaker 2 (02:47):

You know, it's so funny. I've got I put pumpkins
on my fence post every year. Yes, and there's I
need eighty pumpkins. I've got thirty left. I like buy
several pumpkins a day, so I'm gonna have to head
on over there. That is a razy and then this
is so cool, HOUSTONI and Lucas Burgoyne discovered bike racing
eracing in his early teens and he quickly got really
good at it to ride competitively, got involved in Europe

(03:52):
in the criterium racing. He now does it with a
cowboy hat. He's known as the Criterion Cowboy. He hopes
to bring unbelievable attention to this beloved sport from around
the world, and he's going to continue to celebrate victories
while winning and at next season starts up in the spring,
he hopes to win one more championship, it would be

(04:14):
his third and also raise awareness to Criterion Racing, Pretty Cool, Lucas,
congratulations and for our feel good stories. Each Weekday mornings
set a preset on the new and improved iHeartRadio app
to Sunny Natty nine point one, Sunday naety nine point one,
Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties. And today I'm
Dana with producer Anthony and we were talking in our

(04:36):
nearly impossible question at six forty with October first coming
on Wednesday, we get nostalgic about this. Yes, everything fall,
but specifically trick or treating, that was the answer. Yeah,
And Anthony, honestly, there was a lady on till Dean
Lane that we would little elderly lady that we couldn't
wait to get to her house. We usually waited for

(04:58):
her house to be the end of our trigger treating
because she gave out ice cream sandwiches, that's all. She
had a freezer filled with ice cream sandwiches. That's treaters.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
I know.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
It was the best thing ever. And we're just and
I never even thought to ask her name. It was
just one of those kind of like it's almost not
even real childhood memory.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, it's like everybody has like growing up there, there's
always that house that has either like the full size
cars or just the next level candy that you've just
got to hit, Like that would be the house for me.
It's like the house I caught word of that. You
best believe.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
I'm Dean Lane. I know. I know. It's not like
we had social media or anything, so it's not you know,
she wasn't bombarded. It was just you know, little kids.
You knew, you knew, And the only reason I knew
is because my bus dropped me off there and I
would see her, you know, when I got off the
bus exit. Dean Lane, I know, it's crazy. What about you.
I know you and Jess have put together packages over

(05:57):
the years that I'm sure kids just love going to
your house for trigger treating.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, we try to make it fun. It was something
we really started to try to lean into, like after
the pandemic, Like you know pandemic, you know, it was
getting like like finally easy and people were doing stuff.
We tried to create these things that not only had
the candy in them, but maybe it's like a little
toy or like she started getting these like little free
Pokemon cards or whatever, and the kids absolutely loved them

(06:21):
because it just it's it gives like another treat or
another prize in the thing too. So and with the
with these, with the package or the little baggies that
we make, everybody gets the same amount of candy because
that was the one thing like because I would I'd
get the guilties. I would feel bad because I was
only given you know, maybe.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I look at their face.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, okay, here take another one. And it wasn't like
I was playing favorites. It was just be like I'd
get excited and I maybe grab extra candy for this
person and not enough for that one. But at least
this way, everybody gets the same. It's very smart, smart move.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Takes a little effort, but you know what, it makes
it so much fun, but it came worth it when
you see their face, your trick or treating memories. We'd
love to hear from you as well. Give us some
ideas to seven one three two one two five ninety
nine one Sunday ninety nine foot one Houston's best variety
of the eighties nineties And today I'm Dana with producer
Anthony So with October first on Wednesday, we are getting

(07:12):
nostalgic about trick or treating. Yep, that was our nearly
impossible question at six forty. So we're asking you about
your trick or treating memories. We've got Kim calling in
from Dickinson, a business owner, a substitute teacher. Now, what
are your memories of trick or treating and Halloween? Kim?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Oh, yes, we used to have Hawloween parties. That was
always fun. My parents would just have lots of food
and decorations and lots of kids come over.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
That is so fun.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
That's a boy.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Did you guys have the howling audio in the yard
as the kids came through? Maybe a haunted house that
they had to step through?

Speaker 3 (07:50):
No, usually not sad accessions.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
There's so many houses where my kids grew up, where
we grew up out in the Woodlands. I mean they
went all out with these Halloween part decorations. And did
you give out candy like with your kids or did
you just have like a party?

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Usually it was well, we would usually go to parties
with my kids. They even still have a friend that
does parties that they're about to go to college.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Wow, hey, I'll never forget. I think one of my
favorite years for trigger treaters Anthony, I had to go.
The kids were in a hockey tournament, and so I
just left a big bowl of candy outside on the
steps and just was like, just be kind and take
what you want. And yeah, it was the honor system.
It was really worked out really well. Yes, so fun.

(08:38):
Well Kim and your favorite Halloween candy.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Peanut let, you and probably another.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
One percent of everyone, really well, Kim, I'm so glad
with October happening on Wednesday. We thought this was a
great question, and thanks so much for listening.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
We appreciate you. Thank you. Have a good day.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
