Fun floats and all kinds of pageantry and performances local schools.
I'll never forget being in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in
New York City. I was a baton twirler and I

nine point one, Houston's holiday music station.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
It is seven thirteen. I'm Dana with producer Anthony. Anthony.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
My dad would make this rich, creamy sour kraut for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
No one ate it but me.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
He also made these oysters for an induced with the
side dishes He's got of German descent. Zimmerman and I.
Everyone gagged at his stuff, but I just loved it.
Those were the things that I look forward to.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I would have left it for you too, right, everybody did.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
He only made two small pots of it because it
was just him and me. And but you know, we
all have our little things that we just love that
remind much of home and our nearly impossible question at
six forty this morning, the majority of us, this is
what we ask for when we're going home for the holidays.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
We want our favorite.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Meal, the one that makes you feel like you're you're
bracket home exactly.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
It's that side dish, or that's whatever is dish that
you just loved so much. Do you have one, Anthony
that you recall you were in upstate New York or
in Texas, wherever you were.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
As a child.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
I got tons of stuff that I'll ask my mom
to make and my dad. You said oyster, though, reminded
me of Jess's dad used to make. Because he's from
New Orleans. He would make an oyster dressing for things.
So you want to talk about specific things very nice
for me and my mom, and she knows I've asked
her to make the go to and I don't ask
for it that often. Is her homemade enchilada is because
it's such a process what to do. She boils the chicken,

(05:32):
wraps the whole thing up. But man like when I
went to go visit her in Syracuse when she was
doing the travel nurse thing, that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
That's one of the things she made for me.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
I didn't even have to ask because she knew I
was gonna add that's what I was gonna, you know,
bring up anyways, that and her strawberry pie.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
I know it brought that up. Oh you brought up
this strung y well. This year.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
It's a real conundrum for the Tyson family because I
have a lot of daughter in laws. I've got five kids,
so I've got one son in law and then the
other daughter in laws, and you know, they have their
own things that they like to make. Well, one of
them attempted to make my King Ranch chicken last year
for Thanksgiving, and oh yeah, you know, like I just

(06:10):
stay out of it. I figure as a mother in law,
best thing for me is just zip it and stay
out of it and let them rule the roost. Well,
one of the kids asked me if I would bring
back my King Ranch chicken or for Thanksgiving this, and
I'm just I'm really it's a conundrum.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
It's not the same deed.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I know. I think we're just gonna have to let
it go with just let it go, just let it go.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Or make make make it to make exactly make it
on the side for them so they're not a.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Little baggy my King Ranch chicken. That's how you do, istericle.
What about you?

Speaker 1 (06:46):
And because it does get complicated when you start bringing
ciders into the world of crust rate, everyone's got their
own take and their parents.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Did their favorite.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
What about you, your favorite dish that you would hope
mom and dad could make for you or just dream
about making for this Thanksgiving seven one three two one
two five ninety nine one, Monday, ninety nine point one.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
We are Houston's holiday music station. It's now seven twenty one.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
I'm Dana with producer Anthony talking about my dad's creamy
sour kraut that I just loved so much. He made
an oyster dishes, just two little pots those were dads
in my side dishes for Thanksgiving feast. We learned that
many of us the number one thing we asked for
when we go home it's not to you know, have
my bedroom ready, No, it's to have my favorite dish ready.

(07:33):
And we're asking you about your favorite dishes for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
And we've got Sarah calling in from spring.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Now are you asking for your favorite dish or are
you the one maybe making the favorite dish?

Speaker 4 (07:46):
I'm the one making everyone's favorite mail one. I'm totally
okay with it.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Oh okay, what is it? What are you making?

Speaker 4 (07:52):
My favorite thing nowadays to make my kids? This fried cabbage?

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Fried cabbine? Now, what do you do? How do you
have fried cabbage?

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Tell us you saw tell your bell peppers and onions
with a little bit of Andrewey sausage and soy sauce
and last minute you thaw that Kevige in there where
it's still a little crunchy.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
It's delicious.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
You should try it.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
God, yeah, I'm really huge sour Kraft person. But this
isn't like sour kraut though, is it? It's much richer?

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Right?

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (08:20):
No, not at all?

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Oh more fresh? Wow? Why did you learn to make this.
It's like a German dish or something.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
No.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
So, I actually usually make cabbage for the holidays only,
but I got tired of boiled cabbage, and so I
was just looking online for some recipes and just threw
my own stuff in there, and it turned out to
be a staple.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Oh my, isn'ess? Wow? That's how it happens.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Sarah is going to be remembered for her amazing fried cabbage.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
I love that. Who cooks the turkey for Thanksgiving?

Speaker 4 (08:48):
I so let my mom do that. She thinks she's
the best at it. I'm gonna let her keep doing it,
all right?

Speaker 2 (08:54):
That's great? Like that?

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Does she have a special secret sauce or secret way
of doing it?

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Makes it so good that she's very proud.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Of she does.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
I don't mind telling you it's not really a secret anymore.
She mixes ranch powder mixed with butter, and Marin nates
it in the turkey for a couple of days before
she cooks it.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I've heard of using some kind of ranch.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Actually, yeah, that's pure decadence. It's delicious. I thank you
for sharing some of your delicious tips. I'm telling you
our sunny listeners are genius. I really are, though, Sarah,
thank you for sharing. We wish and what's mom's name?

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Wanda?

Speaker 1 (09:31):
We wish you and Wanda a very happy Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
And I hope you're enjoying the Christmas US well.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
I love it. My kids have been asking me since
July and when y'all are going to put it on
the radio.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
It's if you know. If it were up to me, Sarah,
we'd be playing it in July. But I'm not the boss.
So you guys enjoy and thanks again for listening.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Thank you so much,
