Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties And today, good morning, I'm Dana with producer Anthony,
and we've got the three things you need to know
to get your Tuesday, October fourteenth started well. Yesterday more
burn bands in more counties because of this dry weather.
Montgomery and Fort Ben Counties added to the list of

(00:23):
burn bands. Other counties include Chambers and Liberty and San
Decento and Polk Waller. We also have Wharton, Austin, and
Colorado counties. So when will we get some relief? Well,
we could get some relief rain wise this weekend, but.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Temperature wise probably not now.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Usually the past five years we get our cool front
moving through anytime between October fourteenth through the twenty second. Well,
today's October fourteenth, and we see no cooler air in sight.
Last fall, it wasn't until no November before we got
a cool front. So last year it was the third
warmest October on record.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
We could repeat that again this year. We'll see, but
we do have that elevated fire risk to be aware of.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Okay, for you potato chip fans, lays potato chips, brace yourself.
They are having a huge makeover, the largest in its
one hundred year history. New logo, new design, and they're
removing artificial flavors and colors by the end of the year.
So the new logo is gonna be warmer and have

(01:33):
more distinct sun rays beaming out from the lay's red ribbon.
You're also going to see the claim made with real
potatoes on the front label. Forty two percent of Laize
potato chip fans didn't even realize that they were made
from potatoes.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
That is really funny.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
You know, you get used to chemicals, right and they
make the chemicals taste good as this is like real
food weather.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Today, it's gonna be sunny and warm.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
We're gonna go up to and right now we're at
sixty five in Uptown and Europe to date on sunny.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Tell me something good.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Brought to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. While
the Emancipation Park Conservancy has some big changes ahead, a
huge expansion that's going to help with cultural and community
kind of be a major anchor in the third Ward.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Their plans are amazing.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
An eighteen point five million dollar project that includes this
beautiful outdoor stage going to help with the Juneteenth celebrations
and they're going to be renovating that eleven thousand square
foot cultural center. It kind of looks like what's the
place of Miller Outdoor Theater.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
I mean, it's not as big, but just has.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
That beautiful look to it and am so a welcome
addition to the Third Ward for sure.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Producer Anthony Dean, This is awesome and a testament to
the quality of our amazing hotels here in Houston. The
second ever Michelin Keys selection dedicated to North American hotel
recently happened. Proud to say five Houston area hotels made
the list in total, including a new Montrose addition. So
all five of these hotels received one Michelin Key, which
is the hotel equivalent of a Michelin Star for restaurants.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
So who made the list.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
That would be the car Mansion down in Galveston, Hotel
Zaza Memorial City, Hotel Zaza Museum District, the Posto Hotel,
and new this year, the Hotel Saint Augustine, which opened
over in the Montrose back in December. It's a seventy
one key, two story hotel. You can find it off
Loretto Drive and it's just steps away from the Manil
collection over in the Mantras.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
It's beautiful. Oh yeah, it is.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
Definitely something to be proud of though. Five michelin Key
hotels found right here in h town.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
And not only is tell me something good filled with
good news stories, but I also learned something I didn't know.
A nickel was an actual player in the NFL, like
a defensive play. And I'm learning that because the nickel player,
Jalen Petree, He's a nickel and I thought, oh is
that his name?

Speaker 2 (03:56):
No, I learned about the play, so that's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
As he team up with Kids Meals Yes, and his
Patriot Boys Foundation. This is the third year for Feed
five More campaign. It's full the goal fifty five thousand,
five hundred and fifty five meals for food insecure kids
in the greater Houston DA.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Isn't that neat? Now?

Speaker 1 (04:19):
You can donate ten dollars goes a long way, and
Jalen is going to personally donate two hundred and fifty
dollars for every tackle and one hundred dollars for no
for every turnover, and one hundred dollars for every sack
the Texans defense creates throughout this season. That's pretty cool
and I'm sure they're going to be hugely successful. You

(04:41):
can find out more Kids mealsinc. Doty Natty nine Cleveland,
Houston's best Variety of the eighties nineties, and today I'm
Dana with producer Anthony in our Nearly Impossible Question. The
first sign the holidays are here. For the majority of
those surveyed.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
It's Chris music.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Yet it is, and I've been noticing Christmas commercials now
now we're not playing Christmas music yet, No, that will happen,
but definitely Christmas commercials are out.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
That's a good point. October. Yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
I would argue even before that, like when I start
hearing those commercials that just they don't even have to
do anything with the holidays, but you'll hear like a
sleigh bell in the background.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
They know what they're doing.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Yes, I'm like, Okay, the holidays they're here.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Well, they're getting there now.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
We posted this question up on Facebook at Sunny ninety
nine Houston and just asking you about when you think
a lot of people Christmas music, of course, but let's
see what we've got here. Diane says, it's the day
after Halloween when all the retail strip centers start putting
out their wreaths, garlands and bows.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Not here, it's before Halloween. Those huge, big red bows
come out. They might even be out now.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
I was gonna say, they're still hot outside and they're out.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Diana says, your Christmas music.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Christopher says, when Santa shows up at the end of
the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, that's the kickoff to the
holidays for us. Mary, when I pull out my decor
like I want to do now exclamation point and Jean
says that and the first Christmas commercial on TV, that's
what it's been for me.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Diana says.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
When they start announcing the schedule and selling tickets for
the Trans Siberia ooh.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yes, also true.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
We're getting be talking with al Patrelli in a couple
of days to find out all about Trans Siberian Orchestra
and Anthony.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
I think they have.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
This will be their thirty first year with us, thirty
one already, I know, So we would love to have
you join the conversation. When do the holidays begin for you? Yes,
right there at sunny ninety nine Houston. Give us a call,
let us know. We'd love to chat with you seven
one three, two one two five ninety nine one Sunday

(06:53):
nineties And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and we're
talking about signs the holidays are here. For a majority
of people's survey, they said it was listening to Christmas
music on the radio, which warms our hearts since we
are Houston's Christmas music station.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
But we're asking you, what's it for you?

Speaker 1 (07:08):
We got Anna from Spring Branch, now you're a chemical engineer.
For me, Anna, it's I saw a Christmas commercial the
other day and.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I was like, oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
The house was decorated so beautifully, and I just thought, oh,
it's almost here.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
What about for you?

Speaker 1 (07:22):
For me?

Speaker 5 (07:22):
The lights and decorations in the house. Right the day
after the Adelos Martal so the day of the dead,
my kids and I pull out every to smile. We
have went for like more.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Than two months. Wow. I think a great tradition is though.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I mean, that's a lot of work.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
You've got to have a lot of passion in your
heart for all of these traditions, right, yes, but then you.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
You enter as soon as you enter the door, it
feels like home. Like it smells like home. Everything, every
corner has that. And when you have your family away,
it's just perfect.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Oh I love that. Tell us about your kids. How
many kids do you have?

Speaker 5 (08:01):
I have two girls eight and ten years old?

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Oh my gosh, it's got like the perfect age for
such awe and amazement.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Correct?

Speaker 2 (08:09):
And what are their names?

Speaker 5 (08:10):
Allam?

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Victoria? Fantastic? All right? Now?

Speaker 1 (08:13):
What do Isabella and Victoria hope they're going to get
for Christmas this year?

Speaker 5 (08:19):
One is a scooter and the other one one's one
of smallest figure to sing because she wants to be
singer or something like that.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
When she's ready to make her debut, you call us
up and we can have her sing on Sonny.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
Okay, okay, Well, thank you so much, and you're a delight.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
We're so glad that you listen. And how did you
find Sonny?

Speaker 5 (08:42):
I found twenty ten years ago when we moved to Kiston,
and it was the station that was cheering me off
and making me happy with this move of countries, and
I couldn't have stop listening since then.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
I'm so glad you found out that we play all
Christmas music during the holidays.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
That must have been so great.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Yes, exactly, but everything along the year, you guys are
amazing and always chew me off.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Oh Anna, Well, we just love to hear that.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
It brings us joy, and when we're really tired of
the morning, we're going to think about you. Okay, so good, Anna,
thanks so much, and love to Isabella and Victoria.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
Okay, sounds good.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Thank you.
