Any impact to Houston looks minimal. Maybe heavy rains and
flash flooding later this week, but definitely something we're all
keeping our eyes on. And it's not a good title
to hold, but it's the truth. Texas is number one

(00:42):
in the US for flash floods. Yep, we are the
flash flood capital and flash Flood Alley is exactly where
the fourth of July destruction occurred. Experts are blaming it
on our geological features, the climate and topography, and we
are all trying to be good stewards by recycling. But
the City So Solid Waste Department has had many recycling

its start back in nineteen oh five on a sixty
dollars investment. Started out as a small family grocer in Currville, which.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Is where its spirit of giving was born.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Its founder, Florence Butt, and her son Howard, would actually
bring food baskets to people who lived along the Guadaloupe
that didn't have a house. Remember this is back in
the early nineteen hundreds. Florence and her son moved to
Currville because their husband was ill and the doctor said
you should move to that area in Texas well.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
She had to make ends meet.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
She tried door to door selling before opening a store,
and the rest is history.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
So fast forward to today.

along the area, providing volunteers and support, giving out gift
cards to impacted communities all over. After the flood, they
set up shoppers for an easy way to donate to
the effort at the checkout stand and they donated five
million dollars to nonprofits providing recovery support and two million

(04:56):
producer Anthony, and we've got Houston's best variety of the eighties,
nineties and today. And we learned in our nearly impossible
question that ladies, if we had an extra hour, most
of us would want to spend it with our pets pets,
but I thought we'd open it up to other options.
So we're asking you, if you had an extra hour,
what would you do. We've got Jane calling in from

(05:16):
Katie working in compliance. Janie, what would you do with
an extra hour?

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Oh? Mine went to take a nap for a bubble bath, okay,
and I love that and my time that I like
for myself. And one year I send the kids with
their dad with my husband to the Astros game and
that was the best Father's Day for me because I
got to relax.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
All.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
We're talking with a genius here.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
So on Father's Day, you sent the kids to an
Astros game with dad and you're home alone doing exactly
what you want to do.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Yes, Janie, Wow, you need to write a book on this.
That's kind of like a passive aggressive way of dealing
with right. I love that. How long have you guys
been married.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
We've been married twenty one year.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
And how many kids do you have?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Three?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Girls?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Oh that is fantastic. I love that. That's such a
great idea. Rest Father's Day for me?

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Absolutely, Jannie. How do you get yourself motivated every day?
You sound like a very happy lady.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Oh, I just need my coffee and I'm good.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I know right.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Well, you enjoy your cup of coffee, and I thank
you so much for listening to us.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
We truly appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Oh, you're welcome. I love you, guys.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
I love hearing you every morning. Thanks Jane, morning, Jennie,
take care, love, thank you, bye bye. Thanks Jeannie.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Let's head over to Pastina and speak with Anita. If
you had an extra hour, what would you do with
that in your day?

Speaker 4 (06:43):
I personally would sleep.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
I would take a nap, okay, yes, sleep.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
So what is it about your day that makes you
so tired that you need a nap?

Speaker 4 (06:53):
It just seems like by the time I get off
work and I'm doing errands and stuff just life, I'm like.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Why is it so late? I already have to go
to bed, and then I feel like I don't get
enough sleep, and then I'm up and at it again
the next day, and I'm just like, here we go again.
It's on that constant wheel, right, I tell you wheel.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, you do to.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Change it, though, Anita, I probably need to start delegating
some of the stuff that I do, like some of
the meal purping.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
I don't have to do all of it myself, but.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I prefer to do it myself because I want.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
It done my way. Yeah, because you're with the housework
type a personality, right completely. Yeah, So I'm like, no,
can you please not fold the towels like that. I'll
just do it myself.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Oh my gosh, I know that.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
You know there's going to be something happening in your
life that's going to make you change course.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
I'm starting so seriously.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
I started a ten day fast yesterday because I'm just
like you and I need to. Just if you want
to slow down your day, try going a full day
without food, your day is going to take forever.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
No, that's awful, right, That's what I told you.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
My life is low down and it's something really amazing.
I wouldn't recommend it for everybody, but something to just
change our life. After the Fourth of July devastation, I
was just getting really depressed and I needed something to
give me some peace and clarity, and my son suggested this.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
So I'm doing it.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
But you need to start delegating and enjoy your life more.
You know what they say, You've got to stop and
smell the roses. Definitely for sure. Yeah, well, try to
get that extra hour of nap in for a little
bit of Anita time, and don't worry about folding the towels.
It'll get done at some point.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Wait, thank you so much, Anita. You're you're great, and
thank you for listening.
