Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the eighties, nineties,
and Today Dana in the Morning and producer Anthony with
the three Things you need to Know to get your
Tuesday July thirtieth started, we might be learning about who
our new top cop is going to be. Mayor John
Whitmyer getting ready to announce our new HPD chief could
be Haiti's current police chief, no Idaz council member Mike Knox,

(00:23):
who was with HPD. He thinks Diaz would be great.
Mayor Whitmyer has not confirmed.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
He says he's not going to resign. The CEO of
Centerpoint told legislators in Austin yesterday it would ruin their momentum.
Jason Wells has outlined forty things that Centerpoint plans to
do to make sure we don't experience the devastating power
outages during the next hurricane. So here's the question. With
August approaching on Thursday, when is the next hurricane. August

(00:53):
begins the ramp up period for hurricanes, the peak on
September tenth. Wow, forecasters have predicted twenty five named storms
by season end. We've only had three named systems so far,
that's a lot of storms to come, possibly Anthonyes anyway,
weather today calm and hot. We've got some Saharan dust around,

(01:14):
going to go up to ninety four right now, it's
eighty and uptown and Europe to date on Sunday ninety
nine point one, and tell me something good brought to
us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well, there are
several high school students working together for a great cause.
They are raising money for a man who had acid
thrown in his face, leaving him nearly blind. The students

(01:37):
are working with Harris County Precinct Io, their student to
student government. It's a civic leadership academy. And Lionel Korea
is a beloved guitar teacher randomly attacked back in twenty
twenty one. Now, because of the funds that have been
raised so far in a couple of weeks, he's headed
to a specialist in Boston hoping to improve his site.

(01:59):
There is go fund me. You can check it out
at GoFundMe dot com and it's under the title help
mister Korea restore his vision. They've already surpassed the amount
they wanted to raise, but go for it, you know,
help him out.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Producer Anthony Dane, one of our faves. CHIB is named
ten small businesses as finalists and it's eleventh annual Quest
for Texas Best competition. It's their search for the top
tier of Texas products and they all compete against other
fellow Texas based entrepreneurs for combined seventy thousand dollars in
cash prizes and a chance of placement right on our
HIV shelves. They reviewed more than sixteen hours of video

(02:34):
submissions almost five hundred creatives for more than one hundred
and eighteen cities across the state, and they've narrowed it
down for their finalists for competing on Texas Best. You've
got out of Austin Dane, Berea Queen. It's Berea seasoning bombs,
think like a bath bomb, but for cooking out of Dallas,
they've got the blue corn butterscotch pancake mix that sounds amazing. Also,

(02:55):
Hydro Nation Sports Drinks, which is actually inspired by drinks
made in Mexico. There's Treizo c out of San Antonio,
which I would love to use in some of my
breakfast foods on the weekends. And our area was represented
as well. Courtesy of Texas Rice Milling out of Brookshire, Texas.
Rice Milling's rice fields actually double as wildlife habitats during
their off season. All these look amazing. We'll see who

(03:15):
takes home the dub August ninth coming up in Dallas.
They're going to be presenting their product stories and competing
for some incredible prize money and the title being Texas Best.

Speaker 1 (03:24):

joining the Olympics, right, And what's our Mattress Mac up to. Well,
he's doing what he does best, giving away mattresses, a
hundred of them. It's his dream big mattress giveaway and
it's for first responders and teachers. They will be blessed tomorrow.

(03:44):
It's a first come, first serve. Starts at seven point
thirty tomorrow morning at the original North three Way Gallery
Furniture location. Just bring your ID and you might get
a really high quality mattress from Mattress Mac, who does
so much for our community. And I'll tell you can
