feel good. Friday, August eighth started well where there's going
to be some big, beautiful changes at Herman Park. The
Astros Foundation the Herman Park Conservancy have teamed up with
the Houston Parks and rec revitalizing the golf course and

the walking trails. This is a two year, thirty million
dollar renovation. Construction's going to begin soon. You can go

Well, the Lamar Richmond's Lamar Little League.

They are on their way to the World Series in Williamsport,

to school clothes, shoes, school supplies, and it's all weekend long.
Items have to cost less than one hundred dollars to

Goodwill Houston. So what are sky Farms, Well, you can
find out by heading up three flights of stairs at
Post Houston Downtown. It's the largest rooftop park in the
country of five acre green space that's as innovative as beautiful.
They partnered with NASA, believe it or not. It's called
a living roof Native Texas plants, trees, water features, and

the garden and it actually allows tempts on Post Oak
roof to be about four degrees cooler than other rooftops
around the city.

And yeah, oh and the organic farm called sky Farm
and on Wednesdays it's open farm Days where you can
actually get organic produce.

Producer Anthony Dane cot Goodwill Houston out here doing good again,
this time with Anya Well. She's a Milwaukee native. She's
overcome tremendous personal hardships throughout her life. As a teen
mom to three children, she faced unimaginable loss when her
infant daughter passed away from SIDS. Despite this tragedy, she
continued to care selflessly for her family, raising her kids
while also looking after her ailing mother and a strange

father rescued from poor nursing home condition, and a cousin
with a brain injury.

Wow Well.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
After the deaths of her parents, Anya sought a fresh start.
She moved to Houston with her youngest daughter, heavenly determined
to rebuild their lives well in Houston. A job interview
with Metro unexpectedly connected Onya with Goodwill the River Oaks
Career Center. She quickly impressed her case manager and enrolled
in training programs. Her dedication led to a custodial position
with Jesse Jones and Ramone Salobby, a role that proved
to be an ideal match. When her car broke down,

Goodwill stepped in to provide transportation support, further solidifying their
life changing impact. After years of giving so much to others,
Anya finally found a community that supports her, and she
remains deeply grateful for the opportunity and encouragement she's received
through Goodwill Houston.

I love this, oh, And we are thanking teachers getting
ready for back to school. They're making their classrooms amazing.

Now let's talk about you as a teacher.

Obviously, you make such an impact on the students and
the parents at Stafford ear Childhood and you have created
a garden there.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Can you tell us about that?

Speaker 5 (05:04):
Okay, So, first of all, I have to think donors
choose because they are the reason why the garden was started.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
We had a vision. We wanted to teach the students.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
About garden and sustainable practices, healthy eating, and so I
was like, let me try to make a Donor's Choose project.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
So we start.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
I made the project. We started off with little buckets
because we teach little kids right now. It just grew
into something big and thanks to Donors Shoes. We also
are partnering with another organization here in Texas called Sprouting
Texas and they have helped us to.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Make our garden bigger and better. And it's just so
amazing that is.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
And I also ten you guys some pictures so you
guys can see it. So once you guys are finished,

Teachers from the past, yep, I can say when I
was in school, I loved all of my teachers.

They made us excited about learning, and that's just something
that I always wanted to do. Like I went to
college for business, but then I was like, you know what,
it's teaching.

you think you do with the students. That kind of
sets you apart from other teachers that they're just like, oh,
we just love miss Johannah so much.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
So I am also a Girl Scout troop leader for
the district.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Uh huh.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
So not only am I helping with the garden, I
do lead our Girl Scouts. I have a multi level troops,
so I have everything from pre k up to fifth grade.
And also let me give donors choose another plug because
we went to the sugar Land Animal Shelter this past Saturday,
uh huh. And we were actually able to donate dog food,
cat food. And I took my girl Scouts there on

Saturday and we donated the supply. We also got to
see the animals and visit the animals.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
And they got their badge right.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
Yes, And they got a badge of visiting.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
And I have to ask you about your energy, Johannah.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Where do you get your energy?

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
I'm an early bird. I wake up at three am.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Whoa, I get up because I am training for the
Houston Half Marathon in January.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Oh my god, what you want?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Wow?

And I'm also I'm also fundraising for the Houston food baked.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
So I I just love to keep myself busy. I
love to give back. It just makes me happy.

What an energy source you are for those little kids
and their parents and all the teachers at the school.

The first day for the little ones is actually August thirteenth.
