Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one in Houston's Best Variety of
the eighties, nineties and Today with Dana in the Morning
and producer Anthony and the three Things you Need to
Know to get your Wednesday. October first started well the
stroke of midnight. Two things happened. We turned to October
and the government shut down. I know they missed the
deadline for funding the government through November. Neither side looks

(00:23):
like it's going to budge. But employees who work to
protect life and liberty, they get to stay on the job.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
They don't get paid. The others are furloughed.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
And we shouldn't notice too much if it just lasts
like a week to ten days, But anything over that
it might start affecting our lives. If you posted on
what's happening there, just what we need here a longer
commute right well. Metro riders say that the city's new
traffic light timing making their metro rides longer, sometimes as

(00:53):
much as fifteen minutes longer. Apparently the city Midtown and
downtown are retiming the traffic lights, four hundred of them
to get the city ready for the World Cup. And
HGB has a new president, the first woman to head
up the very popular grocery chain, thirty seven years after

(01:15):
she started as a trainee. Roxanne or Sac becomes the
president of HB. Craig Boyn, the past president. He will
be sticking around for an un advisory position, so that's
kind of good to have him on standby. Your weather
today is going to be partly sunny for your first
day of October and warm. We're going up to ninety

(01:36):
four right now, it's seventy five in uptown and eure
up to date from Sunday ninety nine point one. Tell
me something good brought to us by our friends at
Goodwill Houston. This is incredible. I mean, they just keep
getting better and better. Anthony, your alma mater, you of
H raking its enrollment record. You of H has its

(01:56):
largest freshman class in its history. Forty eight nine hundred
and seventy two students, sixty seven hundred and fifteen are
freshman and this is a U of H record. They've
got forty five hundred transfers. I was a transfer student
when I went to Colgate. I transferred from Saint Lawrence

(02:16):
to Colgate, and I just I was like so excited
that they accepted me. So you transfer students who made
it to you, of h That's quite an honor to
so go you of h koogs. You guys are phenomenal.
And Anthony, you're living proof that you got an amazing education.
Because he's a brainiac over here.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
I don't know about that. You know you are producer,
Anthony Dane. This is exciting coming up, not this but
next weekend. We can look forward to Houston Art Weeks.
This is great too, especially with the holiday gift season
upon us. The event highlights some of the city's most
notable art initiatives, including the Bayou City Art Festival and
Washington Avenue Art District's Second Saturdays. Organizers say the primary
goal of Art Weeks is to stimulate awareness and patronage

(02:56):
of Houston based artists. They say these events make the
connections between artists and collectors more accessible and less intimidating,
and even better, a portion of sales during the event
will be donated to the Stella Nova Foundation, which has
designated the Mantro Center as the primary beneficiary. You can
find out more about the upcoming Houston Art Weeks. Could
be a great opportunity to grab some amazing art with
gifts giving season on the way and it kicks off

(03:18):
next weekend. All the details check out Stella Nova Foundation
dot org.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
That is such a great idea, Producer Anthony. I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
And I want to bounce off the walls, get rid
of some of this energy. And guess what us adults
can oh and our kids. It's Houston's new FunBox Experience.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
It has been open now for a month.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
It's got these obstacle courses, giant slides, you can hop,
you can jump, you can play. It's for the whole family.
It's the nation's largest indoor junk jump park. It's bigger
than a basketball court. Wow.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
And it's just filled with so much fun.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
It's sold out for birthday parties every weekend. But it's
also got some business bonding ideas, wouldn't they.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Anthony building there exactly.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
You can check out FunBox dot com for all the fun.
Sunny Meatos Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's best variety
of the eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony,
and it is the second day, no the first day
of October. I'm so sorry, I'm already in two tomorrow
it's the first day of October. So we learned in
our nearly impossible question that twenty five percent of women

(04:30):
do this once a month and it.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Makes them feel younger and happier. And what do they do.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
They dye their hair, whether they're getting highlights, new collar,
covering up the gray. They say that makes them happy.
I used to do it, and then Anthony, I just
got too cheap and too lazy, so I don't do
it anymore. So I had to find other ways to
make me happy. And honestly, what I've been doing lately
is burpies.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Burpies.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Try to do one hundred twenty burpies every morning.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
So exercise was your exercise.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
This was my thing. But I have to change up
my exercises. I get bored really easily. So my son said,
why don't you just do burpies. I was doing push ups,
I was doing all kinds, and then I just thought,
I really like burpies. I don't do the jump at
the end, though, because the jump is just makes it miserable.
So but I get down do my push up. Sometimes
I do a double push up and then stand up

(05:21):
and then kind of stand there and then get back
down and do it again.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
That's a lot, though.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
It is a lot, even if you're omitting like the jump,
I mean that whole.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
No. I try to get done in like ten twelve minutes.
That's it what I just do. And I feel, honestly, Anthony,
when I'm done, I feel so happy. So I thought, well,
that's what makes me happy, and it's free, which is
it is?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
It's very happier. Yeah, what about you?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
What, ladies, what makes you happy feel younger? Is it
dyeing your hair or something else that you've discovered?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Seven one three two one two.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Five ninety nine one Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's
Best Variety of the eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana
with producer Anthony. We're talking about way ladies find happiness
feel younger. For twenty five percent of us, it's dyeing
our hair once a month, but not everybody does that.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
And I was dyeing my hair. I was a fake
blonde for years and years, and finally I just got
so tired of it.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
I just got really lazy, Anthony, you know, and it
was too expensive and too high maintenance. So I find
other ways to keep me happy. That don't cost much,
so my husband doesn't dag me. I like doing exercise.
I like doing burpies at like two thirty in the morning.
It's just I feel so accomplished and I feel so
happy after. But that's what I like. What do you

(06:34):
ladies like? We've got Evelyn calling in from Spring. Now
you work at a school there, Evelyn.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
What makes you happy? Yes?

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Self care makes me feel beautiful.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Self care Okay, now that goes beyond just dyeing your hair, Like,
give us a list. Give self care.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Mental health is a super important of dyeing your hair,
just spending time with family, enjoying the fresh air, decorating
your home for the holiday, all that. We have a
whole list going.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
That is Evelyn. That is amazing. I forgot.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
I totally forgot about decorating your home to make you
happy and you feel younger, and.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, that's excellent. So Evelyn, And do you get your
nails done? And everything?

Speaker 1 (07:18):
I do?

Speaker 4 (07:19):
I have a little combo going hair done and all neils.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Ye love that I can. I can hear that joy
in your voice. How did you learn this?

Speaker 4 (07:29):
I've worked in the mental health builds for a very
long time, and I think it's very important to emphasize
that piece, just to continue, you know, take it day
by day.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Oh, that is excellent.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Wolf Care includes decorating that home for the holidays on
this first day of October.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
And Evelyn, what about how does listening to Christmas music
factor in? Oh, it just.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
Brings you into the spirit. It just brings, you know,
holiday unity, bringing gatherings.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I'm gonna I'm riding on it on Evelyn's coattail. I
like where she's going with this. You're just you're already
bringing joy to our show, Evelyn.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Really, Oh that's great.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
I'm glad you shared the joy of the spirit.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Well, I'm glad that you called in and thank you
for listening. How did you find Sonny?

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Well, actually, I have relocated from California and you know,
just going through the stations reprogramming My My Car, Sonny
has been one of our first stations. We've been listening
to the kids enjoy it every every morning going to
school on her road trips. So you guys bring a
lot of joy to our car.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Andre I'm so glad you found us.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
