Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and Today Dana in the Morning and producer
Anthony and the Three Things You Need to Know to
get your Tuesday. May twentieth started well. The forty fourth
annual Kinder Houston Area Survey was released yesterday. Sheds light
on Houston area residents' top priorities, but this year they've
extended it beyond Harris County into Fort Bend and Montgomery
(00:24):
County's concerns include crime, food, inequality, and there is a
strong sense of.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Civic pride, which is really great news.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Well, last year, last week, rather I told you about
these driverless eighteen wheelers trucks hauling goods from Houston to
San Antonio. They're on the roads now, but it's the
Aurora Innovation is the name of the company. But they
say that they were having the observers in the backseat
while the driverless truck was driving. Now they've moved them
(00:56):
to the front seat. They're still driverless. That's interesting, they're
in the front seat. Find that interesting? Why they would
have done that? Right? Why are you are going to
put on the brake or justin Kate what I experienced.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Way mo, I think that's the way you pronounce it.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
These are the driver lists kind of the Uber drivers
in Austin over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
They just pull right up to a restaurant, people get
out and there's no driver, nobody there. Yeah, they just
had censors all around this crazy vehicle. Anyway, I might
try it. With this heat comes AC issues and it
happened at High High School yesterday. AC problems there, students
left early. The HVAC team has been on campus early
this morning to make sure it's cooling properly. Elliott Elementary
(01:40):
also had some AC issues, but they are working on
resolving that as well.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
And it's going to be hot, so there might be
AC issues in your home.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
As we maybe go up to ninety eight, it's possible
record set ninety five back in twenty twenty. Lower humidity
is supposed to move in tonight. We'll see right now
already eighty two in Uptown and you're up to date
on sunny Tell me something good brought to us by
our friends at Goodwill Houston. There's a new study Anthony
(02:08):
that found a third of us had planned a trip
to some place just to try certain foods and if
you want to try Filipino foods, then all you have
to do is head to Pariland. I love this. Tony
Dinamling from the Philippines met his buddy Jojo Merraville in
nineteen ninety six when they moved here to Houston, talking
about their future in Houston and specifically Parlane. They thought,
(02:30):
you know what, you know what, Pearland really needs a
Filipino buffet. Apparently they love buffets and the Philippines, so
they opened their TJ Filipino Cuisine in two thousand and six.
It's at eighteen twenty six County Place, Parkway and Ei.
There are thirty four different foods all you can eat,
(02:51):
and most of them recipes from their island.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Doesn't that sounded fantastic? Yes it does, Yes, producer Anthony Dane.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
There's a faith based private school here in Houston that's
been offering up a different type of tuition model. It's
the Nativity Academy. It's located in one of Houston's most
underserved neighborhoods. It was founded with a simple mission deliver
high quality, values driven education to kids whose families fall
below the federal poverty line. The school opened up back
in twenty sixteen and dan. While some private school tuition
can run up to ten grand a year, the Nativity
(03:21):
Academy as for just twenty bucks a month. They raise
the money with a lot of grant writing, family foundations,
charitable foundations, and private donors, all working together to cover
costs so these families don't have to and leaders say
parents often share with them how their kids now have
opportunities they never imagine in academics, character building, and spiritual growth.
They have a focus on respect, kindness and a strong
academic foundation. It's incredible. I'm so glad we have something
(03:43):
like this here in the age. It's the Nativity Academy
helping our families and kids who need it most.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Is amazing, right, I love that.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Oh and by the way, I gave the wrong address
for this TJ Filipino Cuisine. It's eighteen twenty six Country
Place Parkway, not County Country Place Parkway. And we always
have our tell Me Something Good stories up for you
at Sunday ninety nine dot com and you can also

Varrietay of the eighties, nineties and Today I'm Dana with
producer Anthony on a hot Tuesday. Loved our nearly impossible
question this morning because dad's getting involved in the kids
and the chores they're responsible for doing, Like this might
be a great time, with this summer approaching, to get
the kids to learn how to do the laundry.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
I was thinking, yes, right.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Dads think nine and a half is the perfect age
for kids to start.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Doing their own laundry.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
I'm sure moms would be like, yeah, I like that,
And we're asking you about your laundry habits in life.
And we have got Tiffany who works at Texas Children's Hospital. Now,
how old were you, Tiffany when you started doing your
own laundry?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I was thirteen thirteen and.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Said, Tiffany, it's time. Was it your mom or your dad?
My mom? She was like, no, can you come in
here changing clothes too often?
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Let me show you how to do this. Yeah, nope,
I'm done.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
So you're one of the Did you have a mound
of clothes in your bedroom?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Tiffany? I did, but I knew where everything was, so
it was perfect.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
There was an organized chaos, right, and mom probably drove
you drove her crazy?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Right? Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Now let me ask you. Are you a mom now
I am? How does it work with you and your
kids and laundry?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah, okay, so they messed it up one time, so
they can't do it anymore.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Oh, they made it up.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Wait a minute, so you had them do the laundry.
What did they put bleach in or something? Well, they
mixed the color and the white, so I had to
soak the white clothes in order to get all the
color out.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
So I just do the laundry. Nobody touches my laundry
but me with my white shirts. Do not push them
with colors? Please? Whoops?
Speaker 1 (05:52):
And yellow yellow and it's a pee yellow needs to
go by itself. Wow, So your kids will be like
I was. I learned to do my laundry in college.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Probably.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Well, how many kids do you have? I have two kids?
And how old are they?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
So?
Speaker 2 (06:09):
My old is it's twenty five.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
She does her own laundry now, and my youngest is twelve?
Speaker 2 (06:15):
All right? Now?
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Is the twelve year old almost done with school? Is
this the last week?
Speaker 2 (06:19):
No? She's actually an a leaf. So she has two
weeks left.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Oh okay, I say you can get the fun started.
What do you guys doing this summer? I signed her
up for a summer program at the school.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
She's begging me not to go, but she's going. Oh yeah,
that is exlativity. Listen.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I know she loves moms so much. Yeah, you guys
probably have the best time. We hope you have a
great summer. And thank you so much for letting us
be a part of your life.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yes, thank you.
