Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and Today Dana in the Morning and producer
Anthony and the Three Things You Need to Know to
get your feel good Friday July eleventh start, which means
that Sunday is Houston Day three year.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Oh, yes, seven to one to three.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Now, in light of these devastating Fourth of July flash floods,
we're watching the recovery efforts now and oh, it's just unbelievable. Well,
Harris County is heating this fast tracking flood mitigation programs
increasing three Commissioners Court approof funding for all top existing
flood mitigation projects to be put in place by September.

(00:41):
Two are in the Memorial City neighborhoods. One is at
the gates of Lake Houston. It's becoming a beautiful yet
really poignant memorial wall that continues to grow in the
heart of Kurrville. Photos, flowers, handwritten messages now line a
fence all along Water Street. It's now known as the
Wall of Hope. It's a place for morning reflection and

(01:04):
support and League City is helping flood victims and first responders.
League City, a former League City volunteer firefighter Brad Perry
died in the floods. His wife you see a picture
of her clinging to a tree. She was rescued. She's
now recovering in the hospital. Unbelievable. The American Legion Post
in League City is collecting donations for flood victims and

(01:26):
first responders every day from ten am until eight pm.
And you can also donate financially to the Kirk County
Relief Fund. This is a very effective way to help.
It's very flexible. You'll see this fund up on our
website at Sunday ninety nine dot com. Now weather today,
we've got a weather aware weekend. Today we've got a

(01:48):
fifty percent chance of rain, but that chance is going
to increase this weekend. We're going to go up to
eighty nine today. Right now, it's eighty and uptown and
you're up to date. I'm sunny. Tell me something good.
Brought to it by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Unbelievably
devoted Little Girls out in Kingwood raised over ten thousand
dollars for the Kirk County flood victims with a bake sale.

(02:12):
Four girls sold homemade treats to help those impacted by
the Hill Country flooding. Annie Laney says they're going to
donate all the money to the church there. She knows
God is watching out for them. Everly Dickens said her
friend went to camp a few weeks ago, and she
says it could have happened to her and she would
have been so sad. All four girls are so happy

(02:34):
that so many people came out to buy their suites.
One person bought two waters and gave them one hundred dollars.
They also had t shirts made and on the front
it said girls doing Good. On the back it said
love like Jesus. I love that great producer Anthony Dane.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
In the wake of those floods, there's quite a few
jewelers that are out here raising money for Texas flood recovery.
Lindsay Holt known as the Houston Diamond Girls, She's already
raised over one hundred and sixty thousand dollars. She created
the Hill Country Relief Collection. Lindsay says one hundred percent
of these proceeds are going to relief. James Avery and
other Texas brand has pledged one million dollars in support,
announcing it will donate one hundred percent of its proceeds

(03:11):
from its Deep in the Heart of Texas charm through
August fourth. Kendri Scott and their Kendris Scott Foundation. They've
also pledged support to that Kirk Could Relief Fund, that's
the one we've been telling you about. They'll be making
a direct donation and one hundred percent of proceeds from
sales of its ever Lean bracelet will be donated Dane.
There's even a jewelry store way over in North Carolina
raising money for victims. Aaron McDermott Jewelry over in Charlotte

(03:32):
launched a campaign selling these twenty five dollars necklaces and
in just days she managed to already raise one hundred
thousand dollars. It's so heartwarming to see all these people
coming together to help everyone affected by these floods and
a reminder that you're not alone. There's people out here
stepping up to make sure Texas recovers.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Absolutely and Trish and Michael Abner, they know who's stepped up.
Thanking the owner of Blue Oak RV Park for saving
their lives.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
They had no idea their lives were in danger.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
The early morning of the fourth of July, the park's
owner went out pounding on RV owner's doors. Her name
is Lorena Gillum. She was telling everyone leave immediately. Well,
Michael and Trish got out, ran up the hill to safety,
and they were shocked when they saw within thirty minutes
the water had risen twenty feet. So many people were

(04:21):
saved by Lorena's determination.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
You know, unbelievable. You know, for feel good stories.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Each weekday mornings, we encourage you to set a preset
on the new and improved iHeartRadio app to Sunny ninety
nine point one, Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's best
variety of the eighties nineties, and Today Dana with producer
Anthony on a feel Good Friday talking about feel good stories.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
My son issued me a jump rope challenge.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
He did four hundred and fifty consecutive jump ropes yesterday.
I tried last night, Anthony. I'm just not a night person.
I'm a morning person.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
You're winding down exactly exactly.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
I got up this morning and I texted Bobby seven
hundred seventeen consecutive jumps.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Son, that's not real, it is real, And he said,
dang it, mom, that's boss mode. Nice work. It's all mental.
I was gonna say good luck.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Bobby, y that's crazy, Bobby, that's wild.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Ye.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
We're asking you something that is inspirational. Made you feel
good this week? Maybe something that picks us up and
makes us feel good. And we've got Mary from Damon.
Now you're a nurse. What's your story? Do you do
something that picks us up and feels good?

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Oh? Every day. The nursing I do is to help
people find resources that they need when they don't have them.
So my job is a feel good job.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
That's oh, I love that.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Mary.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
How did you get this job?

Speaker 4 (05:44):
I just happened to fall into it about almost thirty
years ago, and I've just continued to do it. I've
worked with the Neo Nate babies and ICUs cancer patients,
rehab patience. It's just a way I get to enjoy
by helping someone every day.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Oh man, what a calling, geez.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
See you ever look back at the way that you
were raised as kind of being the reason you are
like you are today? Just determined to help people as
a way of life.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Yes, I came from a very large family and a
small community where you don't have a lot of resources,
and it allowed me to know how people feel when
they are ill and when they need things, and it
made me a better person.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Oh, very thank you for sharing.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
You know, I bet people who work with you have
such a sense of relief and they feel so taken
care of when you kind of enter their story.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Yes, I get to deal with a lot of other
nurses teaching them what I do, teaching families and the
doctors about the resources, and dealing with insurance companies. So
it's a very rewarding experience.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Well, God bless you Mary. That is next, and thank
you for sharing. I am so glad you listened to Sonny.
You just made us all feel good, wonderful.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
I listened to you God morning. I enjoy your program.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Thank you Mary, have an awesome weekend and thanks again YouTube.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Thank you
