Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday nighty nine point one Houston's best variety of the
eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony on
a feel good Friday. Here are the three things you
need to know to get your Friday. September nineteen started well.
We learned that Houston's now the number one big city
dealing with high poverty levels. Kroger is helping out, especially
with students. They've got a partnership with you of h
(00:22):
the Cougar Hubboard loading the shelves with food for food
insecure students. Kroger has committed forty five thousand dollars for
three years to make sure the shelves are stocked. Pretty cool.
While another university, Texas A and M, is going to
have a new president, Mark Welsh, stepping down later today
over course content controversy. The Board of Regents has appointed
(00:44):
doctor John Sharp as an interim president. The board will
then initiate his search for a new president. Welch had
been president since twenty twenty three. And then there's Houston
City College wants your y two k fashion items if
you want to donate them. You know those Elvet tracksuits
and the True Religion clothes Jucy Couture because they're teaching
(01:05):
a course teaching the kids about the different errors eras
of clothing. But these styles are in big demand with
online vintage clothing sites like Deep Pop, poshmark eBay, at
Sea thread Up. So if you want to make a
little money, you can donate your y two k fashion.
(01:26):
The hard part of all of this is it means
you have to clean out your class. Yeah, like unearthing
at all right exactly, well, whether today not too bad.
If you like the heat, you're gonna have plenty of
it right through the weekend. It's gonna be partly sunny.
We'll go up to ninety two more rain moving in
Sunday is gonna be a good chance for rain. We've
got the first day of fall on Monday. Hmm. I
(01:46):
don't know if it's gonna feel like it though. Right
now it's seventy five in Uptown and you're up to
date on sunny and tell me something good. Brought to
us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well Hooky Entertainment
is playing some big time fun for you guys out
in Daytown. Everyone's invited. They're transforming the Baytown Cinema, which
(02:08):
has stayed open throughout the construction into a seventy three
thousand square foot entertainment venue. Whoa, it's going to be
opening up soon October third. There's going to still be
the cinema, but also a bowling alley, an arcade, two
virtual dart bays. There's even gonna be some private event space.
I'm thinking, you know, maybe four wedding parties. Oh for sure.
(02:32):
Once again, Yes, it's going to be opening up for
all of you. October third. Producer Anthony Dane. This is exciting.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
There's a text mech spot that got some love from
the prestigious Michelin Guide Texas last fall now is opening
a second Houston Area location.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
It's Candente.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
They were one of only seven restaurants that made the
Michelin Recommended list in the inaugural Texas Guide last year,
and so the new location is coming to the bel
Air area. They've taken over the lease from Mandito's Text
Mechs off bel Air Boulevard. The menu is going to
include all their classics too, for Heata's chicken, shrimp and
seafood cooked over a wood fire grill. And the second
location comes six years after Candente first opened up off
(03:08):
yok And Boulevard over in the Mantro. So get excited
the new Candente coming to the bel Air Boulevard area
and they expect to open before the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Anthony, you cannot deny Houston has the most incredible food
scene of any place. Facts right, I know? You got it? Okay?
Now beneath the busy underpass at MILEM and I forty
five in Midtown it was once just concrete. Now it's
bursting with color. One of six art installations between the
(03:37):
City of Houston and Midtown Houston. There are seven local
artists and they've teamed up with forty unhoused participants who
are getting paid to repaint the area. They've even created
a prayer wall. You've got to check it out. They
have been working with Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. Oh
(03:59):
and the artists have collaborated with these unhoused participants. There's
even a collaboration that created a new company. I'm thinking, wow,
Shark Tank. It is a vegan, vegan sauce company that
was so cool while working together, isn't that so cool?
And for our feel good stories? Each weekday mornings set
(04:19):

Sonny Natty nine point one, Sunny Naty nine point one,
Houston's Best variety of the eighties nineties, and Today Day
in the Morning and producer Anthony. By the way, the
iHeartRadio Music Festival kicks off tonight at nine. You get
to hear it and tomorrow night at nine, or you
can stream it on only on Hulu. Maroon five ed
(04:41):
Shearan Mariah Carey, the Queen of Christmas. It's gonna be
phenomenal and you can just listen right here in the
comfort of your home to Sunday naety nine point one.
It's going to be so good. That's some good news
for a feel good Friday. But Anthony, this week has
been a very stressful week. We had some training that
we had to do online. Oh yeah, in compliance with
(05:02):
our HR that's right. We also had to make sure
our spouses, our dependents on our insurance were covered. So
there was some kind of verification that our insurance company
needed and if you didn't do it by today, they're
off your insurance plan. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
This was one of those changes they'll make every now
and then where it's like there's a few steps involved
that you have to just like that really stressed me
out well, and to be fair, it wasn't just you, though.
There were a lot of people that got caught out
like out here with like what.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
In order to prove that Bob has been my husband
for over forty years, they wanted my marriage license, which
is so I contacted Bennington, Vermont, which is where we
got married, and they said, we don't have it here,
and I go, no, I swear I was married in Bennington,
Vermont nineteen eighty six. We got married, and we don't
have it here. So then I had to call some
other I mean I called five different offices in Vermont
(05:56):
to get my marriage license. Finally they emailed my marriage
life and so that was the first thing done.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Then I needed to have get a bill that showed
that Bob and I were, you know, paying our utilities together.
So I went to San Bernard in Belleville got a bill.
So I was good to go with that. She's like,
here and take the bill. I go, no, could you?
I'm not really sure how to upload all these documents,
so could you just like email it to me? Yeah?
So then Anthony, I sit down, I'm at my computer
and I cannot figure out. I called the company and
(06:26):
I'm like, how do I get this information of these
things to you? She goes, well, first you have to
save the documents and I go, well, I don't even
know how to do that. Anthony, my daughter in law,
comes over and I said, Claire, I think you're going
to be able to help me out. She did it,
so she was just like click, click, click, of course,
and it was done. She goes, You're done. I'm stressed,
(06:49):
all weak, and she had it all taken care of
within second. I said, Claire, you need to just come
whenever there's a computer involved. She goes, well, at least
I'm good for something. I go, oh my gosh. Topic.
She's a great teacher in Brenham and just a special,
special girl. So that's big, big help.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
And now, but that's a lot of work though day
to be fair, like you call five offices, you called
it was crazy.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
It's Vermont. It's like itty bitty you know who gets
married in Vermont? There?
Speaker 3 (07:20):
I know.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Well, we would love to hear maybe something great, maybe
someone helped you out this week, something that's been stressing
you out, share them with us. We would love to
say thank you for all you do seven one three
two one two by ninety nine one Sunday nighty nine
point one. I'm Dana with producer Anthony. It's a feel
good Friday and asking you about some feel good stories.
(07:43):
Share it with Houston because it can inspire us. We've
got Jamie calling in from Cyprus, an HR manager. Now, Jamie,
you have a feel good story about you? Your daughter?
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yes, my daughter, one of my daughters. She's twenty six
years old. You know, I just encouraged her, gave her
a lot of motivation for this job that she was
trying to get for an interview, just to kind of
pep her, you know, get her ready for it. And
she was able to get us at an interview, and
you know, I thought she pretty much got the job.
(08:14):
That made me feel really good.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
What kind of job is it, Jamie?
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Customer service?
Speaker 1 (08:19):
How did you motivate her, especially when she wasn't feeling confident?
What did you do?
Speaker 3 (08:23):
So we did, like a face to face I kind
of pepped her, you know, kind of asked her questions
what interviewers the interviewers would ask during an interview, just
so she wouldn't be nervous and she would be on
point with the questions that they would ask her.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
You did a little practice. Yes, I love that, Jamie.
That is awesome. So when does she start her first job?
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Pefully on Monday, lets let us know to be her
start day.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
That is amazing first day of PA. What's her name, Jamie,
Her name is Nicole. Well, Nicole, the best of luck
to you and mom. Great job, that is an excellent story.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Thank you so much for love you guys. Bye, have
a good one, have a good weekend.
