and the three things you need to know to get
your Wednesday, July twenty third started while the Houston Rodeo
Houston Livestock Show in Rodeo celebrating a big win, actually
their third. They get the Academy of Country Music's Best
Fair and Rodeo Award for the third time. They got

(00:24):
it in twenty nineteen and twenty twenty two. So congratulations
and the Rodeo saying a big thanks to some thirty
six thousand volunteers, the donors, and of course all who
come out and enjoy. Well, we've got another success story.
The once most powerful weapon in the world, the Battleship Texas,
has secured its home in Galveston, YEP. The lease is

(00:46):
signed the new home at year fifteen. Next comes a
world class museum. It's on the way. We'll let you
know when we can all go visit. And if you're
looking to retire, don't do it in Texas. According to
a report by Banks Great we come in at number
forty nine as the best state to retire in So
apparently it's our weather, our walk ability, our healthcare, and

(01:09):
our air quality that these are things that retirees are
looking for, and we ranked low in those areas well.
Weather today, yeah, it's going to be not walkable day.
It's gonna be hot. We're gonna go up to one hundred.
It's gonna feel like one hundred and ten. But this
is you know, this is summer in Houston. It's gonna
be real sunny though, and maybe cooler temperatures Friday and

(01:30):
Saturday as some rain comes into cool things off. Right now,
it's eighty in uptown and you're up to date from
Sunday ninety nine point one. Tell me something good brought
to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well, Houston's
Stephanie Franklin hasn't been handed lemons in life.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
No, She's got grapes, lots of them.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
See. She lost her job in the pandemic, so she
decided to bounce back by pouring herself into wines YEP,
a boutique wine label, and now she's in East Texas
on some family land she inherited.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
She decided to plant a vineyard.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
She traveled all around to top producers from Texas to Naples,
did internships, planted her vineyard. Her first wine has already
won gold at the twenty twenty five Women's Competition and
silver at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Her goal

(02:27):
is to empower women in wine. She even got interviewed
by Michael Strahan recently, and now we here in Houston
can celebrate her wine. She's got an event coming up
July twenty seventh. It's called Legacy in Bloom and it's
going to be at the Texas Wine School. I didn't
even know we had a wine school.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
You're cool. It's at twenty three oh one Portsmouth Street.
It starts at four.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
You can check the detail Franklin Underscore Vines for all
the Love that Isn't that great producer Anthony Dane.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
This is awesome and you Music Festival on the way
to Galveston. It's the inaugural Old Quarter Songwriter Festival. It's
going down in November at multiple venues in the islands
Downtown Cultural Arts District and for our ogs. If the
name Old Quarters sounds familiar, that's because it's been an
institution on the island since nineteen ninety six. More than
twenty artists have already confirmed. They're hoping to have around
thirty and all. They want a nice balance of local, regional,

(03:20):
and national names. They're also planning a pair of songwriting panels,
a special open mic night for festival performers, and even
a free daytime show focused on even more bands. We're
going to keep you updated because that lineup could be
dropping any day now. The club's actually going to have
a dress rehearsal of sorts next month. Nearly twenty acts
are going to be on stage to raise money for
the Hill Country flood victims. We can stay updated on
the festival find them on Instagram at Old Quarter ACS.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
So exciting.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
That's incredible, incredible, And soon it will be easier to walk,
jog or bike from the Galleria to Memorial Park. A
new twenty two million dollar bridge and elevated trail system
is going to break round early next It's a three
hundred and fifty foot suspension bridge that's going to form

(04:05):
a key part of a two mile extension tying uptown
hike and bike trails into one of the primary trails
in Memorial Park.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Wow, and not wait for that.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
That whole area is just it really is fantastical. It's
so beautiful and for our feel good stories. Each Weekday
mornings set a preset on the new and improved iHeartRadio
app to Sunny Natty nine point one, Sunday Natty nine
point one, Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties, And
Today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and our Nearly Impossible Question.

(04:35):
We learned at six forty that we look at ten
houses before we decide to purchase one.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I thought that was kind of extreme. In Anthony, you
looked at three.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Yeah, ten seems like a while. I just find the
ugliest house and then I get it and fix it up.
That's the way I love to go. But we're asking
you what is your house experience? And we've got Karen
now you in Webster. You've owned a home, but you're
now renting. Do you prefer renting over owning? Well, it's
kind of six of one and a half dozen of

(05:04):
another because a home is great and you own it,
but it's money renting.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
It's a money pit too, because they drain you dry.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Rent goes up every year no matter what, So you know,
it's kind of even.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, So she's not wrong.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I mean, what do you do, Karen, Like you're renting now,
but you've owned a home.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yes, I well I lost the home and the divorce. Ah, gotcha.
But you do bring up some good points.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
You've got some negatives with owning, negatives with renting.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
But at least you found that silver lining I did. Hey, Dana,
I was wondering, just really quick.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
You've been out an awful lot lately, are you okay?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Oh yeah no, I'm just going on vague. I'm filling
up my vacation time. Okay.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah, I thought maybe you were trying to burn time. Yeah,
but WoT.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
And as a matter of fact, I'll be out for
a couple of days again. I'm gathering my family together
in Oklahoma for a family reunion.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
So but I'll be back. It's so funny.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I love reunion. Yes, it's gonna be a lot of fun.
My daughter's in Wisconsin. She just found out her kids
have chicken pox.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I mean time, what right? Oh my gosh, exactly exactly. Well, Karen,
you are a delight. Thank you for your concern. I
appreciate it. Oh, because I love Sonny and I'm like,
where's my Dana? Oh sweetheart? Well, I'm always here. No
favorite them, Producer, Anthony. Trust me, I say the same

(06:29):
thing too.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
She she feels me, Anthony. She knows what us ladies
are going through. Well, Karen, you're a doll. I thank
you so much.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Much fun, all right, take.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
So much fun on your on your trip to the
family reunion, because they are great. I love them.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
I appreciate you. Man again
