Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony, and
here are the three things you need to know to
get your Wednesday, October eighth started. Well, it's day eight
now of our government shutdown. Remember I said, if we're
about a week, we should be okay. But anything after
week we're gonna start feeling it. And air traffic controllers
(00:22):
TSA screeners, Yep, we're starting to feel it. At the airport.
They're in short supply now, so you're going to have
longer lines at the security checkpoints, more delays as some
air traffic control places go dark. Not here in Houston though,
not at Bush, not at Hobby all as well so far,
but keep checking your flight status. Well, the Houston Gamblers,
(00:42):
our United Football League team, how's a new home? Their
third home. First they were at Rice University, Then they
were at TDECU Stadium at U of H. Now they're
going to be playing at Shell Energy Stadium, a little
bit smaller venue, and that's what they wanted. That's where
the Dynamo and the Dash play. There's a new app
that promises to give you some indication of power outage problems.
(01:06):
Houston experienced the highest frequency of power outages in major
cities in the month of August, so we're doing something
about it. The app is called ting and it provides
real time neighborhood level power outage information literally within seconds
of power outages, so you can get the information that
(01:26):
you need.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Your weather today, we hope for no power outages because
it's going to be hot again. We're gonna be high
humidity going up to ninety two, feeling like August in October. Yeah,
right now, seventy five in uptown and you're up to
date from Sunday ninety nine point one. Tell me something
good brought to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston.
(01:48):
So why am I talking about the Miami Hurricanes postgame meal, Well,
because it looks a lot like it comes from Texas.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
The Hurricanes reward for their twenty eight to two win,
water burger a huge spread. Water burger boxes everywhere, honey
barbecued chicken striped sandwiches, the Buffalo Ranch, chicken stripped sandwiches,
honey buttered chicken biscuits. It was everywhere in the locker room.
Anthony I didn't realize water Burger is now in Miami, Florida.
(02:18):
Oh crazy, let's go. That's because it's so good. Producer
Anthony Dan.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I didn't realize that the month of October was also
Pearland Restaurant Weeks.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
I love these.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
These are the best because these are the events where
restaurants will feature curated menus and specialty offerings from Paarland's
most delicious food spots. This year, they have nineteen restaurants
participating and of course literally something for everyone. These are
great times to try places you've been meaning to, especially
because they've got great prices on these fixed menus. And
even better, as these events usually do, they all help
(02:47):
benefit one of their local organizations, the Pairland Neighborhood Center,
and organization that provides a local pantry, baby pantry and
lots of support for local families, especially during the holiday season.
Great excuse to get out and try some of Pairland's best.
You want to find out who spots to try and
check out menuse check out visit Pearland dot com. Scroll
down you're gonna see Pearland Restaurant Weeks.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Excellent from Pearland to Tomball. They're closing up the year
with family friendly events. They had their big National Night
Out celebration last night. I saw a huge event for
National app Night Out Out in Belleville last night. I mean,
our law enforcement put on such great shows to bring
the community out so everyone can get to know each other.
(03:26):
But Tomball has this spectacular that's coming up October eleventh
at the Depot Plaza their holiday parade. This is their
sixtieth annual November twenty second, and their tree lighting is
December sixth as they celebrate local heroes. So lots of
fun going on in Tomball right through the holidays. And
(03:47):
for our feel good stories. Each Weekday Mornings set a
preset on the new and improved iHeartRadio app to Sunny
naety nine point one, Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's
best variety of the eighties nineties, and Today Day No
with producer Anthony talking in our Nearly Impossible Question, we
learned that the item we forget the most to pack
is our toothbrush. The toothbrush. That's why I have a
(04:08):
travel toothbrush. I have an electric toothbrush at home, and
I really like to travel light, so I have this
just this junky, little travel toothbrush and its own little
case and some toothpaste and that way I'm covered. And
I think I got it at like a CBS or something,
and that way forget. You know, I'm not gonna worry
about it. I'm usually really good with my teeth, but
when I travel, at least I have a toothbrush. I
(04:30):
love to travel light, Anthony. I'm going to be going
to Montana this holiday season, and I know you need
lots of cold weather clothes, but I still just travel
with a backpack. I never checked my baggage ever.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
But that's that's a place you'd need, like like snow gear,
though y you.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Wear it all, like just wear it all, like you're
leaving nine degree heat in Houston and you have all
your winter weather on your body. I just went through this.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
But what two years ago when I was visiting my
mom or it's a Syracuse and there's like six inches
of snow on the ground. We do not have snow
boots here. That was the one thing them I didn't
have any I was like, I was walking around in
my actual just regular shoes, and I was like, this
was the one thing I didn't have because I could
bring a coat I could bring pants, I can bring
long sleep, but I don't have boots, so that's something
(05:18):
you'd need to bring.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
I'm gonna wear my boots and I'm gonna wear my
jacket even though it's ninety degrees everything. Oh, I see,
you just take it all with you. That and then
I have a backpack with like some well my toothbrush
and some shirts and maybe some like some long jawn's
things like that. But I travel very very light. That
is all the only place I plan on traveling. I
(05:42):
wanted just that My kids are great skaters, and I
want to have them skate on a pond for Christmas.
That's that's what That's a fun holiday memory. But I mean,
I don't know if we'll be able to go. If
the government's still shut down, things won't look be looking
up for something like that. You know, there might be
too much snow. Who knows, maybe the flights won't well.
So true, it's just I'm just gonna that's my dream.
(06:03):
That's what I would love to do. But I will
not travel with a checked bag. I only traveled back.
You're pretty adamant about the check bag base, so I
do not like going to baggage claim or anything. And
when my sister and I travel, Oh my gosh, it's
the worst. I'm like, Heather, what are you gonna do
with all these clothes? Well, you never know, I go, Heather,
you can just buy something there if you need a shirt.
(06:24):
Also true, you know, just let's let's not go through
baggage claim. And my mother in law, Oh my gosh,
that's a whole nother story.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
I'm just not organized to bring that organized enough to
bring that much stuff.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
I wouldn't know what it all is. Look, I want
to spend less time in the airport and more tom
on vacation. That's fair, right, that's my goal. What about you?
Are you guys? Do you have travel plans and how
do you travel? You big check baggage person or do
you travel with just a backpack? Seven one three two
one two five ninety nine one Getting so excited for
the holidays? Notty ninety nine point one. It is seven
(06:56):
twenty one. Now I'm Dana with producer Anthony. We've got Houston.
It's best for me in the eighties, nineties and today
talking about packing for the holidays and the one thing
we're most likely to forget. We learned in our nearly
impossible question at six forty A toothbrush. Now, I have
a travel toothbrush and uh, and you do too, Anita.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
I have one at my desk, my glove box, my purse.
I'm never without a super brush.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
No, she's got one. I love that. I love that well, Anita,
since you are so organized, and I'm curious if you
have any travel plans this holiday.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Is actually going on a cruise at Thanksgiving with my daughter.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Oh my gosh, where's your destination?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
The Bahamas?
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Oh that has fantastic, Anita.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, and then at Christmas, I'll be in Tennessee with
my family.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Oh my way, Anita, do you travel a lot? I do?
You know?
Speaker 2 (07:48):
I live in Texas on myself. All my family is
other places, So yes, I do travel.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Spot you know, you stay in Texas because you've got
your year, and then you go and travel during the
holidays to visit your family and friends. And that sounds
like a pretty good life.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, it's pretty good. It gets expensive, but I love
to be with them and they come here too, so yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
That is excellent. Well, we hope you travels are safe
and you got to get this government shutdown to end.
So we don't have to deal with you know, all right,
all this stuff going on at the airport.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
So my son in law just deployed the day before
they shut down, and my poor daughter is just in
a nervous wreck.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Oh this is crazy. I mean they said if it
lasts over a week, that's when we're going to start
feeling it. And today is day eight. So just got
to hope that things will get resolved really fast. And
the best of love to your son and your son
in law and daughter. Thank you all right, Anita, thank
you so much for listening to Sonny. And are you
excited about the Christmas music?
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yes, I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
I know it's great. We have to wait just a
little bit longer. Okay, all right, all right, love you,
take care, bye, bye, Appreciate you, Anita. Let's head out
to Katie and speak with Penny, a nurse. Penny. Are
you going to be taking time off from nursing to
go travel this holiday season and visit maybe family and
friends or just go someplace different. I'm actually gonna take
(09:10):
a little trip to Fredericksburg. Heh, we love Fredericksburg. Yes,
are you gonna be flying? You're you're gonna be driving, right, I'm.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Gonna be driving and I will not forget my toothbrush
or my phone charger.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Absolutely not. Oh now, do you have a plan of
where you're staying in Fredericksburg? All the the wineries you're
gonna be going to. What's it gonna be like.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
No, I'm just gonna go and enjoy every day.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
No plans, that's the best. No plan. What do you
leave so we can come along?
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Okay? Leaving Saturday?
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Okay, Well, you know, if we can't make it, you
can at least take us along on the iHeartRadio app. Okay, okay, okay.
You have the best time and the best holidays, and
we're so glad you listened to Sonny. Oh thank you,
thank you so much. On a great day.
