Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday nightty nine point one, Houston's best variety of the
eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
we've got the three things you need to know to
get your Monday August fourth started, Well, what do Houston's want?
Houstonians want rather, we want fun, we want hockey, we
want basketball. Actually, there's a new study out of U
of H Hobby School of Public Affairs that says, we

(00:23):
want a theme park, yes on ice hockey team sure
and the WNBA, and we're willing to help pay for it.
And we're also willing to help pay for remodeling the
Astrodome and NRG Stadium, two really great venues. I like
all that, all kinds of fun. Sure, And something is
really booming in Houston these days. It's called retail construction.

(00:44):
We are learning We've got twenty one new Walmart supercenters
headed to the Houston area. We are the second most
active market for new retail space in America. And it's
called the power of seven. I was just watching a
video of c J. Stroud's mom, Kim. She is amazing.
I love her. It was her first ever conference and

(01:05):
the event was dedicated to empowering women financially, budgeting, managing credit,
building your online brand, and how to ask the boss
for a race. You would not say no to that woman,
just couldn't. I mean, she's just an amazing lady. And
her son CJ. Said, Mom, I'm gonna get us out
of this situation. And he did it as he saw

(01:28):
the dedication and how hard his mom worked. What a story.
Weather today starting out, Sonny, gonna end your day with
some rain. We've got rain moving in after lunchtime. I'm
gonna go up to eighty eight. Right now, it's seventy
seven in Uptown and you're up to date on sunny.
Tell me something good brought to us by our friends
at Goodwill Houston. There's an amazing organization here in Houston,

(01:50):
actually it's nationwide. It's called Heel Palestine, and they're responsible
for bringing two precious children to Houston yesterday. Barya seven
years old and Hiba is ten years old, severely injured
in the conflict and brought to Houston for not only
medical treatment but emotional healing as well. Both are going
to be saying with special families. Lots of volunteers who

(02:14):
are gonna help these kids with their emotional and physical healing,
giving them a sense of community, a sense of hope,
so that they know they're loved despite their suffering. Four
other children recently came to Houston from Heal Palestine as well.
Farah Shaw is the co founder of the Houston chapter
and she says they had a very special welcome at

(02:34):
Bush Airport yesterday. Just incredible producer, Anthony Dane.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Especially during the summer, we all love heading to the
air conditioned movie theaters to take in the latest big
box office release. But how about heading to the theater
for cat videos. Yes, the best of the internet's cat
videos coming to the big screen. It's Cat Video Fest.
It's a seventy three minute G rated selection of all
things cats, silly, cuddly, sentimental, and of course funny. It's
playing more than five hundred independent theaters across the US

(02:58):
and Canada, and a portion of ticket proceeds benefit cat
focused charity shelters and animal welfare organizations. Since twenty nineteen,
it's raised over one million dollars in The videos are
curated by Will Braden. He's a Seattle based creator. Dating
his business cards read I watch cat videos and it's
not a Joe current exaggeration. Braydon watches thousands of hours
of Internet videos to make the annual compilation. I love

(03:19):
the idea and I love even more than it goes
to help charities for us here in h Town. Cat
Video Fest. It's coming to our River Oaks Theater this
coming Saturday and also August seventeen. Find out more on
their website Theriveroakstheater dot com.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
You know, I might want to check that out. It's
kind of these since I've had my mom's three cats.
I'm you're one of us now, I am, honestly. And
While so many restaurants, including one of Houston's favorite restaurants,
real closing their doors, there's one restaurant experiencing a huge boom, LTMPO.
By the end of the year, Ltampo will have opened

(03:51):
three new restaurants around Houston. They said the boom actually
started when they opened a location at the time it
was Minute Made Park in twenty twenty two. One is
going to be on the South Loop, the other is
going to be at Post Houston, and the third ltm
Boo Galveston. People. You lucky people will be opening one
up for you by the end of the year and

(04:11):
for our feel good stories each weekday mornings set a
preset on the new and improved iHeartRadio app to Sonny
ninety nine point one, Sunny ninety nine point one, Houston's
best variety of the eighties nineties, and Today I'm Dana
with producer Anthony. It is a Monday, It's August fourth,
Getting ready for back to school our nearly impossible question.
We learned that this is a time of bonding back

(04:33):
to school shopping, and that's not been my experience. In theory.
It sounds so good because everything's new and organized, and
the kids are so excited about their new clothes and
their new shoes and their backpacks, and it should all
just be bliss right until you've got a son who
has a meltdown because you won't buy him two pairs

(04:55):
of shoes. I'll never forget when Bobby, my oldest, was
twelve years old, we were at academy and he wanted
two pairs of shoes. I said, Bobby, you get I
have five kids, you get one pair of shoes. Just
like Danielle and Matt and Mitch and Nash. You all
get one pair of shoes. Well, he throws a fit
and thinks because stressed out mom is in public with

(05:19):
four other kids, that he's going to get away with it.
So what I did was I said, Bobby, that's it.
Now you get no shoes and we're leaving. And so, Anthony,
this is a true story. His teacher asked me to
please get him a new pair of shoes because his
sneakers were from last year this summer, and I was

(05:41):
just like, no, until he changes his attitude, he will
get new shoes at Christmas time. Wow, And that's what happened.
It was a very telling story. So what did Bobby
learns to make his own money so he could buy
his own shoes? Lesson. We would love to hear a
yard back to school story, whether they're beautiful or horrible.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
We've loft had both.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, exactly, we've had both. Seven one three two one
two nine Sunday nightety nine point one Houston's best variety
of the eighties, nineties and today, Welcome to our Monday show.
It's August fourth on Dana with producer Anthony. We're talking
about bonding with the kids during back to school shopping
or do we We're asking you about your back to

(06:26):
school shopping and we've got David calling in from Walden.
Now you're a contractor, you've got four boys. What's back
to school shopping like in your life? David? My wife
going out and doing it and then telling me how
horrible it is. Ah, what makes it so bad because
our nearly impossible questions said, Oh, this is a bonding

(06:47):
time for parents and kids. Like, what makes it so
hard with the four boys?

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Well, I mean, hey, it's all of busy going shopping
this time of years, and then following this and some
of the things not being there. It's very frustrating.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yes, spent the school list. I remember those shopping lists.
What about the boys and their clothes? Do they wear
a lot of hand me downs? Some of them do
not as much anymore because they're buried in ages.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
So it's always talking health.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
How compensive shoes are? Oh? I know right. That was
where my son and I did not bond. He wanted
two pairs of shoes and threw a fit when I said,
you can only get one pair of shoes. So you
know what happened, David, He didn't get any shoes. There
you go, that's the way it works. Well, how old
are your boys? Thirteen? Ten and eight. Wow, Will God

(07:39):
bless you guys? When did they all go back to.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
School in a week and a half.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Fantastic? Well, enjoy your time with them and thank God
for your precious wife and all her patience. Take care, David.
Thanks for calling in and listening.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
We appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
