Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday nightighty nine point one, Houston's holiday music station. I'm
dating with producer Anthony on a feel good Friday, and
here are the three things you need to know to
get your Friday. November twenty first started. Oh, I love this.
The Livingston police not give it out speeding tickets or
any other tickets for minor infractions. They're given out turkey tickets.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Yep. They teamed up with an insurance company out there
and they've got twenty dollars ATV gift cards. Lieutenant Jack
Mueller pulled over a driver. She had an unreadable license plate,
and you know the story begins like any other. We
stopped you because we can't read your license plate. Would
you like a citation?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
And she's like no, so he gives her a turkey ticket.
I love it so much. That is really cute. Okay,
this you've got to be aware of. This isn't good.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
This Houston Road ranks number one in pedestrian fatalities in
America between twenty twenty one and twenty twenty three. It's
Westheimer Road. Traffic lights and passes, street crossings are like
a mile apart, so people want to take a shortcut,
Don't do it. Nineteen sixty was another dangerous road that
(01:09):
ranked fourth in America, and Houston Airports expecting two point
one million passengers during this Thanksgiving holiday season, a two
percent increase over last year. Terminal E is now open
at Bush and Uber, and pick up at Terminal C
has now doubled in size, so they'll be less waiting.
Busiest days today Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, and
(01:33):
of course Sunday coming home. I would encourage you to
get your parking reservations. Yeah, so much smoother, and you
can check out any delays at fly the number two
Houston Fly to Houston dot com. Now, weather could cause
delays today if we get some heavy rains that they're
expecting all day into tonight, and then a cooler weekend.
(01:54):
This weekend highs will be about seventy five. Should be
sunny today though up to eighty three right now it's
seventy one in Uptown and Europe to date on sunny.
Tell me something good brought to us by our friends
at Goodwill Houston.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Well we could go, Anthony.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
We had Mattress Mack up here helping us to flip
the switch to Christmas music. And we come to find
out that there's gonna be a movie about Mattress Mac.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
The filming begins soon.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
It'll be called Simply Mattress Mack starring Billy Magnuson.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Oh, he will be amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
It's directed by Houston native Shane Andrews, and the movie
is about Mac his wife Linda. It's gonna focus on
their daughter, Elizabeth and her obsessive compulsive disorder journey that.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
She was on.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
She is now an incredible counselor now I mean, just
an amazing story. It'll be about resilience, heart and community.
And it looks like Diana Agron is going to be
playing Elizabeth and she will be her back show.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
We get some machisms too, and oh, I'm sure we will.
I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Producer Anthony Dane wanted to shout out our Salvation Army
of Greater Houston. They teamed up with the CMA CGM
Foundation for their Giving Across North American initiative to help
families in need this holiday season. So last week, volunteers
were out distributing boxes of enough nonperishable food to make
twenty one thousand, six hundred meals. Wow, I know more
than fifty volunteers were out working alongside Salvation Army staff
(03:22):
at the Alding Westfield Corps to ensure families who are
struggling have a little extra support during the holidays. Captain
Jeremy Walker of the Salvation Army said, these resources help
reach families who are feeling the effect of inflation, and
these box meals and gift cards can really offer relief,
especially for children at home during the holidays. So thank
you again to our Salvation Army of Greater Houston helping
Houston families for more than one hundred and thirty years.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Man, that's so and this is incredible. I don't know
if you ever knew this. Anthony.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I twirled at Baton when I was in middle school,
and I was one of the ones chosen to be
in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day right in Manhattan. Well to Hughes,
students have been chosen for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade
and they are going to be part of the Great
American Marching Band. Hannah Bachman, she's a senior at Cypher
(04:11):
High School.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
She is part of the color guard.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
She said she tried out because it was easier than
getting her PE credit.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
And she gets in right.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
And then Lance Jay Lock, a junior at Cypress Woods
High School.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
He has been playing trambone trombone for years. He loves
music since he was a little kid.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
They are going to be joining one hundred other members
in the band and they're going to be flying to
New York City tomorrow morning. Just checking to see what
Thanksgiving Day is going to be like in New York City.
Sunny with a high forty eight. Man for us here
in Houston on Thanksgiving, cloudy with a high sixty six.
Watch that in either places. And that is you're telling
(04:50):
me something good for a feel good Friday. November twenty
first Sunday, ninety nine point one, Houston's holiday music Station.
It's our feel good Friday. I'm Dana withd Sir Anthony.
We've got some clouds. We're gonna have some rain today too,
bringing in cooler temperatures, not cold, just cool today and
go up.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
To eighty three.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
This weekend should be sunny with a high seventy five,
really nice right now seventy one in uptown. And since
today is our feel good Friday, anything that happened to
you this week that made you feel good, maybe you
made someone else feel good. I got this beautiful hand
knit blanket from a listener in New York State who
listens on the iHeartRadio app Crazy. She is dealing with
(05:30):
cancer and she says keeping her hands moving helps take
her mind off her struggles.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
So she thought she would nit me a blanket and
it's beautiful too. Check it out.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
It's up on our Instagram at Sunday ninety nine Houston Heather,
I am thankful for you and producer Anthony, what about you.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
I got to shout out my mom real quick. She
sent me this text, or actually was yesterday she went
and saw my You know, my sister Megan works in retail.
She was having a be just not a great day.
I think she had I don't know these specific set
of it. Apparently was a customer that was a little
upset about something and it got her down. And so
my mom found out about this, drove over there to
make her feel better and check in on her. Like
(06:06):
that's even my sister Megan. She's a full blown adulth
at this point. But I love that she's never too
old and my mom is that kind of person. I
love that it's the little thing. It really is really
just to show that you care what about you. It
doesn't need to be a big thing. It could be
just something small but little and meaningful. What made someone
feel good this week that you did or maybe it
(06:28):
happened to you?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Give us a call seven one three two one two
five ninety nine one, Sunday, ninety nine point one, Houston's
Holiday Music Station. I'm Dana with producer Anthony on our
feel Good Friday talking about things that make you feel
good on a feel good Friday. And we've got Judy
calling in from Tombull, a director of development at a nonprofit.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
And Judy, what happened that made you feel good this week?
Speaker 4 (06:51):
I think by getting people to give donations this week
has been amazing for our nonprofit.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Well, tell us about your non profit.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I worked for a school for students with neurological differences,
and so our school is different because we have education
and therapeutic for our students in one place.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
It's kind of expensive for them to.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Attend the school that we have, so any money that
I can raise helps offset their education.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Fantastic. What are you doing? What kind of fundraisers?
Speaker 1 (07:21):
How do you get the community involved to help out
your students at that school.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Actually, we just had a huge fundraiser two weeks ago.
We had Temple granded in and she was a national
speaker and we were able to bring people in from
the community that didn't know about our school.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Fantastic.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
What did Temple talk about when she I'm sure she
was your featured speaker at the event.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
What was her message?
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Her many message was always give students with autism a
chance and find something that they are very good at,
and especially trade which will help these students in the
future be able to be out in the community.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
That's fantastic. What's if you don't mind us talking about
your school? What's the name of the school.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
It's the Monarch School in Spring Branch.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Fantastic. How did you get involved with them, Judy?
Speaker 4 (08:12):
I just saw them on LinkedIn and applied and I've
been in development for years and I just felt like
I wanted to work somewhere where it made a difference.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
What have you found working at the Monarch School that
really kind of touches your heart.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
I think that seeing the students come in and the
families being in a place where they had no place
else to turn, and that their student comes to Monarch
and is able to make such big strides that things
their parents never thought they'd be able to accomplish, they
are able to accomplish.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Oh that's amazing. Good Judy. How can people get in touch.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
With you in the school if they've got a student
that maybe might be able to really benefit from what
you offer?
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Sure, they can just go to our website at www
dot monarchschool dot org and happy to help them, or
they can just call the school and we can give
them a tour.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
That's fantastic, Ran, thank you so much for sharing. It
was destiny that we met this morning on a good Friday.
I love that.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yes, Judy, you have a great day and a happy
holiday to you and your family.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Thank you you. Toruth
