Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the Three Things You Need to Know to Get your two.
I don't know why I keep thinking Today's Wednesday. Moving
along Tuesday, Yes, Tuesday, August nineteenth, and I do want
to say. There's a new fund that's been created by
the families of the precious girls at Mystic Camp that

(00:24):
were lost due to the Fourth of July floods. It's
called Heaven's twenty seven Fund, and it's for the twenty
seven lost souls. Now, the families of these Camp Mystic girls,
they are establishing foundations with nonprofits that support the girl's
dreams and passions. And I think it's really beautiful. You
can check them out Heaven's twenty seven Fund. Well, there

(00:48):
are a lot of power outages yesterday, like twenty five
thousand people without power and Harris County alone at the
height of the storms. There was some hail last night
in Cyprus. We had heavy downpours. Now our rain is
expected today and there's still about two thousand without power.
But it's possible that this rain could make the Triple

(01:08):
digit heat go away for a while. Like Thursday, we
have a high they're saying of only eighty seven. What,
oh my gosh. And next week, as we continue this pattern,
the highs will be in the low nineties and upper eighties.
We will take it. I don't know if the triple
digit heat is out of here for good for the year,
but we'll take this little ruin getting there. Sure. Yeah,

(01:31):
today ninety three for the high. We do have a
forty percent chance of rain. Right now, it's seventy nine
in uptown and you're up to date. I'm sunny. Tell
me something good brought to us by our friends at
Goodwill Houston. Well, after weeks of frustration and trash left
in driveways, Houston's rolling out new recycling trucks. Yesterday, brand
new recycling trucks hit the streets, nine of them. Now

(01:54):
the city didn't even paint them because it saved three
thousand dollars. The trucks are there to pick up trash
and restore confidence in our city's services. And an additional
twenty one brand spank and new garbage trucks will be
on the roads in the next two weeks.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Producer Anthony dan I didn't realize it was already here,
but we are now in Houston Theater Week. This is
awesome because this puts the diversity of Houston's entertainment on
full display, including theater, dance and music performances. Main Street Theater,
Dane Your Place also celebrating it's fiftieth year in Houston.
And in addition all the incredible productions they do, they
also offer theater camps and classes for our youngest performers.

(02:30):
But the best part of Houston Theater Week you can
buy one show ticket, get another one absolutely free. The
offer is good for four hundred live performances, so it's
a chance to really check out our Houston theater scene.
The Theater Week runs through Sunday. Use the offer code
htw twenty five grab your buy one, get one free deal.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
I love that, And maybe some football players will soon
be in the theater and I'll tell you why. There
are five football players from the Longhorns and Aggies who
are making their acting debuts at the Terry Cruz School
of Acting. They're actually a part of this hysterical mockumentary
for Sonic Oh so good. Of course, Terry Crews is

(03:08):
going to be the teacher. You've got the Aggie's quarterback
Marcel Reid and running back Reuben Owens. Then with the
Longhorns safety Michael Tafe and defensive lineman Colin Simmons and
wide receiver Ryan Wingo. The four episode mockumentary is supposedly
filled with antics and hijinks and they are referred to
not athletes but act letes, and we will get to

(03:31):
see love it yep. The first one is going to
be August thirtieth, and for our feel good stories each
weekday mornings set a preset on the new and improved
iHeartRadio app to Sonny naty nine point one Sunday naety
nine point one, Houston's Best Variety of the eighties nineties,
and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony. I'm just thinking
of the assembly line that I had created when my

(03:51):
five kids, when I was making their lunches the night
before school, and man, if one of them forgot their lunch,
I would be livid because undoubtedly my husband or I
had to go bring it to school. Guys, do you
know how much time and effort, I mean, five kids,
you would bring it if they forgot I would, I'd
go bring it I'm not gonna let them buy lunch.

(04:12):
I was too cheap.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
No, if I forgot mine, that was just it. Like
I was just tough.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
I know, I know, I zoom home to the woodlands,
then get their lunch and then get it over to
this wish I had that. Man. Yeah, I know I
spoiled them too much, but I was like, I made
this lunch for you, and you're gonna eat it. I
would get those big boxes of goldfish, sure and baggies.
You know, I was so cheap, Anthony, I could have
gotten the packages package goldfish. No, I'm going to buy

(04:39):
baggies and I'm going to put in the labor and
put goldfish in each five of those little baggies. They
had peanut butter and jelly every day. It never changed.
There were carrots, there were celery. I cut up everything.
I had my meal prep and then I would just
line it up, put it in their bag. And I'm
at work. So they had to rely on them themselves
to remember to their lunch because my husband wasn't going

(05:01):
to remember. And boy, I'm telling you that was like there,
you do not forget your lunch, but apparently on Mondays
you do forget your lunch. Yeah, that's what we learned. Yeah,
in our nearly impossible question. That's what teachers say mondays
of the day that the kids, for whatever reason, ten
times more likely to do it, to forget their lunch.
Do you remember. I don't remember my mom doing anything

(05:24):
special for lunch. For me, it was an It wasn't
anything special. I think I just had tuna fish sandwiches
every day. Tuna fish ooh boy, that's yeah. No, we
had my dad. My dad did the same assembly line
for us, for the three of us that we did.
It was the same, but it was like we always
had a sandwich and it was you know, something turkey
blowny something like that. Yeah, there was a bag of chips,
there was some kind of fruit, and then I think

(05:46):
there was a soda or some a can drink in
there as well. Really, and if I forgot it, like again,
tough luck that day. And it wasn't that it went
to wasting. It was just all right, that's your lunch
for tomorrow. I'm just not making you another one.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
That's what it was.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
I think I gave the kids drinks and on specials
when I was feeling really crazy, I would get them lunchables,
what and a lunchable? It was all inclusive. I didn't
have to do that was a I love those lunchables.
And they always wanted the pizza lunchables. Oh, of course
love that. What about you, guys and your school lunches

(06:20):
memories of school lunch? Do you make your kids' epic
school lunches? My daughter in law she's very organic and
everything's natural, and she has these metal tins that she cut.
I mean, I'm like, looking at those lunches those kids
get and go. That would never happen in my world.
I don't even know how my son ended up with
her because everything is so perfectly done. And so then

(06:44):
the kids come to my house kind of like you
eat like that, and I go, yeah, I just eat
regular stuff. Yeah. Anyway, we'd love to hear about your
school lunch experience two one two five ninety nine one
Sunny ninety nine point one. She's In's Best Variety of
the eighties, nineties and today. A nearly impossible question. At
six forty, we learned that mondays of the days teachers

(07:05):
find kids forget their lunches more than any other day
of the week, And that just got to thinking about
school lunches and they're either really a big part of
your day kind of underwhelming, depending on you know, what
kind of lunch you your mom made. My mom's were
kind of underwhelming. I thought I made really fun lunches
for the kids. And we're asking you, now, this would

(07:26):
be a fun, fun lunch. Christian calling in from Conroe.
Now you work at the McDonald's there are you? Did
the kids come in for lunches? Are you near Conroe
High School? I'm like near Conro High School and Ryan
Elementary where my brothers go to. Oh so I bet
you guys are busy before school after school? Right? Yeah?

(07:48):
And what what's the favorite thing that that students order
from you guys? What have you noticed? Pocakes and sausage.
I loved getting that area you get working at McDonald's.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Christian, I've thought it like from my mom like four
years ago, ever since COVID.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, so is it just that your mom just really
liked to go to McDonald's and she's like, Christian, you'd
be amazing there' And so four years later you're still
working at McDonald's. Are you like in management?

Speaker 2 (08:14):
It's like they pay for my college and if I
become a manager.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Wait, they're paying for your college. Incredible, that's amazing. So
what do you have to do, Like, are you going
to college now or are you working a certain amount
of time and then they pay for college? No, I
do college online through an accounting in the program. That
is fantastic. Well, good luck to you. And do you
want to, like eventually just be in management at McDonald's

(08:41):
or do you have other dreams? What do you what
do you want to do when you're done with school?
I want to be an accountant for small businesses because
I see people they have trouble with their finances. Finances, Christian,
that's incredibles and businesses. Yeah, that seems to be a
common theme. Well, Christian, the best of luck. I'm so
glad we got to talk to you. And uh, I
hope you have a great day with all the students

(09:02):
coming in and getting their uh what was it the
hot Yes? Yes, that's right. Well, enjoy and thank you
so much. I'm glad that you listen to us. Bye bye.
Let's head over to Cyprus and speak with Dina. Now
you have school lunch memories or do you make amazing
lunches for your kids? My daughter when she was in school,
she was in monassory.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
So I said, if you're making your lunch at school,
you need to make it at home because the monastory.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Philosophy is be more independent the once you get past tender,
you got to make your own lunch. Well that's a
smart thing that you observed, Dina. I love that anders
and monostory have to like make the snack. Yeah, for
the curriculum. So I said, well, what am I doing
making all these lunches and hand thousands of dollars fee

(09:47):
to my score at school? No way, Dina, you are
such a smart lady. Now, I'm sure there was a
little little friction then between you and your daughter because
now she's like, humph oh, I got to make love it.
They love it. But now she's like your daughter, like
she's been in four hours making her cuds these organic
ben to boxes.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I'm like what, I'm like, who even thinks of this stuff?

Speaker 1 (10:11):
What are you on Pinterest or something all the time.
They're the most beautiful lunches. I don't even know if
the kids like them, but they look beautiful. You were wonderful,
Thank you, Dana. Oh, Dina, have a great day. Thank you.
