Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
we have got the three things you need to know
to get your Wednesday, October second started.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Well.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
The port is still shut down from main ports, I
should say, from Maine to Texas, of course the Houston
Port as well. Forty five thousand DOC workers on strike.
It's the first time they've done this since nineteen seventy seven,
and they demand salary increases, better health care benefits. And
the longer this strike goes on, the higher prices could

(00:35):
go on goods that we will need as we enter
the holiday shopping season. We're keeping our eyes on Houston
attorney Tony Busby. He is representing one hundred and twenty
men and women, sixty men sixty women in the p
didty harassment lawsuits. He said at a press conference that
twenty five of them were miners when they were allegedly assaulted,

(00:57):
and each case will reveal ditty, dirty secrets wow, as
well as those of his accomplices. One of the alleged
victims was only nine years old, and the astros must
win today that if they want to win the Wildcard Championship. Yep,
it's best of three series Game two this afternoon at

(01:17):
one thirty. They lost to the Tigers yesterday three to one.
If you're not going to the game, you can listen
to it on our sister station, Sports Talk seven ninety
And the weather today, Yeah, it's gonna be another hot day.
We'll go up to ninety three real sunny. Right now,
it's seventy three in uptown and eure up to date
on sunny. Tell me something good brought to us by
our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well, we want to be

(01:39):
able to say cheers after the Astros beat the Tigers
this afternoon. Must win game two to make it to
tomorrow's final game at minute mad And if you're going
this afternoon, the game starts at one thirty, and you
can say cheers with their brand new wild Card drink offering.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
It's called the Electric Hate Drink Hatery. It's a nod
to Astro's closer.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Josh Hayter, and it's minute made lemonade blue curas.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Is that how you say curasu?

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeap okay Hornita's tequila sprite and a cherry and lime
garnish and so if you order this, it looks like
like this blue gross drength that maybe fraternity guys would
would it was yellow shots. Yeah, anyway, hopefully we'll be
able to save. Cheers to the Astros with the Electric

(02:30):
Haterade now available at Minute, made producer Anthony Dane.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
This is really exciting. After a two year restoration project,
the river Oaks Theater finally set to reopen to the public.
And if you didn't know the river Oaks Theater, it's
an og of the area originally opened way back in
nineteen thirty nine, then added, yeah, added modern improvements like
comfortable seating, high quality projectory. They'll be holding holding a
grand reopening tomorrow evening at six tomorrow. The reopening, they'll

(02:55):
be hosting an advanced screening a venue Joker sequel I've
been talking about fully Ado with Walking Feena and Lady Gaga.
Looks really good and the theater is going to be
hosting live events as well, concerts, comedy shows and as
I mentioned, it's an og Jim for the Houston area.
So glad it's back. Worth checking out if you want
to find out what else is coming up and check
out their schedule. Just pop over to Vriveroakstheater dot com.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Man a long time coming for that really does. And
this the dream of home ownership is still alive in Houston.
A report by a property data firm said Houston is
one of five major cities where it's still affordable to
own a home.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Wow, we are.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Up against Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I think Houston are outshines.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
All of them.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah, and the average American uses thirty three point five
percent of wages on housing.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
In Houston, it's at twenty five percent.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Hey, that is some good news to start your Wednesday.

the eighties nineties and today I'm Dana.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
We've got producer Anthony.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
We're talking about confidence boosters, little mental things that we
do in the morning that give us confidence throughout the day.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Anthony mentioned sunglasses. Forgot about that.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Sunglasses are like my makeup and which I don't wear,
so I wear sunglasses exactly exactly. We're asking you what
gives you confidence that you put on in the morning,
and we found in our nearly impossible question, thirty five
percent of us say that it is perfume or cologne.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
And I love that.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yeah, good smells make you feel confident, especially if someone notices.
And we've got on gel A teacher in Tomball, what
is it that you put on in the morning that
gives you confidence to deal with those students?

Speaker 5 (04:49):
Definitely accessories like ear rings or a headband?

Speaker 2 (04:52):
I band? What kind of headband?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (04:55):
Like today I have Halloween on because it's October.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Oh gosh, those I love that.

Speaker 1 (05:00):

good at accessorizing your You're thoughtful when it comes to
what can I wear that will really keep the kids
kind of captivated?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
And they always make it fun. Yeah you do.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Do you have cute Halloween t shirts or dresses and outfits?

Speaker 6 (05:18):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Absolutely? It's all about, like you know, getting them engaged
and something cute where they love to you know, they
love they love that see y'all dressed up and different stuff.

sweaters oh, waiting for the season day. Keep up the

Let's get overdue sugar Lan and speak with Karen. What
do you put on that in the morning that gives
you confidence?

Speaker 6 (06:01):
As long as I do my hair and I makeup
every day in the morning, and then when I get
my dog out of the cagetting ready for the day,
I always asking him I look pretty, So.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
So you put on your hair and your makeup for
your dogs now, just.

Because I feel confident in myself all day, Yeah, I
feel dirty.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
It's the same way, yep, Yetta.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Gotta do my shower in the morning and then I
start feeling more confident. Dar.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I want to point out something real quickly to you
that you have really told people through a lot of
dark times, and you all have just really touched people's
hearts in so many ways. And I just want to
thank you for that, Carol.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
You that is just makes my heart just sing.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Thank you for saving that, Kara, because we all go
through dark times and sometimes you just need a little
bright voice out there just to say we could.
