Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Best Variety of the eighties, nineties,
and Today with Dana in the Morning and producer Anthony
in the Three Things You Need to Know to get
your Wednesday, January eighth, started, Well, this has definitely been
a weather week with this cold temperatures and we're going
to stay in the forties today and that's about it. Now.
It's the freezing rain that's moving in tomorrow that we're
(00:23):
concerned about tomorrow evening into early Friday. As of this time,
we should be just warm enough to avoid any wintry
mix that's going to happen to the north of us
in the Dallas area, where they could be getting three
to five inches of snow late Thursday into Friday. Now,
can you say Golf of America. It'll take a while
(00:44):
to get used to that, especially when we're talking about
hurricane season in the Golf of America. Yeah, we're learning
that President elect Donald Trump says he wants to rename
the Golf of Mexico to the Golf of America. I'm
not quite sure how you do that, but we will
keep you posted he gets into office. Interesting at the
end of the month, I know Justin Verlander is moving
(01:05):
out of Houston. He's headed to San Francisco. He got
a one year, fifteen million dollar deal pending the forty
one year old's physical. This would be his twentieth Major
league season. And weather today, we've got that cloud cover
all day. It's going to stay cold. We're only going
to go up to forty five right now, thirty six
in uptown feels like thirty and you're up to date
(01:26):
on' sunny. Tell me something good brought to us by
our friends at Goodwill Houston. Now Friday's college football playoff
semifinals Texas Longhorns, Ohio State up in Arlington at AT
and T Stadium. You can snag some super cheap tickets
about one hundred dollars. Whow do you have any idea? Why, Anthony,
(01:48):
Because you might be dealing with three to five inches
of snow. That's so I would suggest weekend of it
because hopefully things will start warming up Friday afternoon, same
time is at six point thirty, and then the winner
will play either Notre Dame or Penn State on January twentieth.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Producer Anthony Dane, this is definitely some good news. Students
and teachers of alvin Id's Walt Disney Elementary School return
to classes yesterday at a temporary school. So to catch
you up, the school was severely damaged by an EF
two tornado back on December twenty eighth. We're having all
those tornadoes everywhere.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Alvin ID move classes back to the old alvin Elementary
School about four miles away, and leaders work tirelessly to
transform the old campus for their return. And even the
Houston Texans mascot Toro the Texas cheerleaders where they're helping
welcome all the students back to class. Alvin ID says
they're committed to making the transition as smooth as possible.
Students are continuing with the same teachers and classes, and
the community really rallied around the district. They found overwhelming support,
(02:45):
countless amount of school supplies, and one hundred and fifty
thousand dollars in donations. So shout out to alvin Id
helping these elementary students have the best first day back.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I love that and I love this too. Robert Strait
is proof that age is just a number. He's an
eighty two year old Houston artist, once a cabinet maker
who owned a jewelry store for twenty five years. Than
when he hit seventy, he decided he wanted to go
to school to learn more about art. Wow, and he
is now doing it making all kinds of beautiful glass art.
(03:15):
Anthony I showed you some of his artwork. They're amazing
and you could see it too. His art is at
Archway Gallery in the Montrose. And we always have some
great tell Me Something good stories up to inspire you
and give you hope at Sunday ninety nine dot com.

Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties. And today I'm
Dana with producer Anthony of talking about our jobs. In
our Nearly Impossible Question at six point forty, we learned
fifty percent of our coworkers are searching for a job
every day. Whoa while, we're working with a thought, So
we're talking about whether you are working your dream job
or working a job toward that dream job. And we've
(03:58):
got Melissa calling in from South eat Houston. Now, what
do you do for a living?
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Melissa, so currently I do gook keeping.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Uh huh, okay, so I.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Absolutely love my job. However, my prize job was all
the years I spent getting to be a homemaker and
homeschool mother. And it wasn't until my children grew up,
left for college and the service that I went to work.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Wow. Wow, So your dream job was being a mother
a homemaker.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Oh Melissa, Well, tell us about your kids, and you
know a lot of women struggle with that that decision.
I wanted to do that too, but it's crazy. My
husband really wanted me to work. So I managed to
do like double time. I was like a sort of
a state at home mom, but I still had this
early morning job, so I was always walking around like
a zombie. But at least I was with my kids
most of the day. But you are the lucky one
(04:48):
who made that choice. So what did you do before
you became a mom? Like, did you have to give
up a career?
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Oh? No, no no. We had our babies young, very good,
dove into parenthood and made it work, ended up homeschool
and our kiddos and it was the biggest blessing we
could have ever had.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
That's amazing. How many kids you have, we have to okay,
and what you said, one's in the military.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Both of them actually served. One of them never made
it home.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
I'm so sorry, Melissa.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Amplifying the gift of having been able to stay home
all those years with them.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Course, Lyssa, what a story. And thank you for the
ultimate service. And what is your what's your other child
now doing? Who also served in the military.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
So he has moved back home, him in his beautiful
bride and they have given me the most amazing grandson.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Melissa, that's amazing. What's what's your grandson's name?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
He's named after his uncle, Matthews.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
BEAUTI fantastic, Melissa. You're a blessed lady and boy. Sometimes
we have to go to Storre through such struggles to
kind of really appreciate life.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Right.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Absolutely, that's beautiful. Thank you for sharing. So glad you've
you've got to live the best of both worlds. Absolutely,
and a very blessed twenty twenty five to you and
your family.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
