Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
we have the three Things you need to Know to
get your Tuesday May twenty seven started well, the Texas
legislatus is going to wrap up at session for this
summer on June second. There are lots of bills. They're
either stalled, they're preliminary, or they're going to the Governor's desk.
(00:22):
One bill that's stalled so far, it's the bail law
Jocelyn's Law after twelve year old Jossun Joscelyn Nungai. They
are going to go back at it and try to
get that passed today. Another bill getting preliminary approval giving
Texas parents and school boards a bigger role over librarians
on books students can access at public school libraries.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
And this bill will go to the Governor's desk.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Senate Bill eleven seventy seven making sure schools have functioning
defibrillator machines. This one after a fourteen year old land
and Payton collapse during a basketball game at Marshall Middle School.
There was no functioning defibrillator at that school, and overnight
we had some strong thunderstorms in Montgomery County. That was
(01:10):
one of the hardest hit places. Conroe had down trees,
the Woodlands fire crews responding to an attic fire caused
by a lightning strike in the still Water subdivision. Two
hundred thousand were without power overnight. Centerpoint is working hard
to resolve that. And weather today, well, the heavy rains
out of here between eight and nine this morning, and
(01:31):
then we still have a sixty percent chance of showers
and more rain coming back tomorrow. Lower humidity, cooler temperatures.
Today's high eighty seven. Right now it's sixty eight in
uptown and e're up to date. I'm sunny. Tell me
something good brought to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well,
with that I forty five expansion, many of us thought
(01:53):
when one of our favorite Vietnamese restaurants right there in
the path of that expansion was gonna go away. It's
right there in east downtown while we are learning it
is escaping the I forty five expansion and it will survive.
It's going to have a new, bigger home at twenty
seven to twenty Richmond in Upper Kirby they say it's
(02:14):
going to be exactly the same. I think it's probably
going to be better. It will open in January of
twenty twenty six or sooner.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
And my favorite the duck salad.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
They've got grilled pork chops in Anthony, the avocado coffee.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
That I've told you about.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Oh yeah, you've taken videos of that avaka I remember.
So great news for when the Vietnamese restaurant it is
surviving the I forty five expansion.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Downtown producer Anthony.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Dan, you love to hear these stories. There's a five
year old French bulldog that went missing back on May
fourteenth from Southeast Houston. His name is Kobe. The family
got distracted opening their garage door, happens to a lot
of us. Dog immediately runs off. He actually thought the
dog was stolen. They put flyers up around the neighborhood,
put picks up on missing pet groups on social Well.
Days later, they get a phone call from someone in
chicag The lady that called ended up facetiming the family.
(03:02):
They confirmed it was their Kobe.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
My lord.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
The woman told them they saw or she saw their
post about the missing dog. She claims she bought the
dog all the way up at the Chicago Midway Airport,
not even knowing it was missing. Family immediately flies up
drives their loved fur ball back to the age and
they say, this is a great reminder. Get your fur
baby's microchips. You're covered when these things happen. But still
a happy ending with Kobe the French bulldog making his
way back home to Houston and his family.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Someone needs to talk to Kobe, and Kobe needs to
tell them how did he end up in Chigar?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
What was this like? Would you do this? Wow? That's
incredible and this is pretty incredible.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Big shout out to astrocenter Christian Walker. He hit a
game winning two run home run Sunday against the Mariners.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Now here's the deal, Anthony.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
He was sporting a mustache on Thursday and Friday at
the games. Okay, gone, shaved it off. He also switched
lockers and he wore high socks instead of his usual yep,
the sports suit firstitions.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
They work this sun Now.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
No word on his undies or any other crazy superstitions,
but these are the ones that he's stuck.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
To and at worked.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
The Astros ended up beating the Mariners on Sunday five
to three, and Astros won that series three games to one.
Speaker 2 (04:16):

which means there's probably more rain on the way.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yes, dark should start clearing up.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah, we had these thunderstorms that moved in overnight super strong.
Actually had a thunderstorm warning that has since expired. But
still more rain today and tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
So just be aware.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
We're going to go up to only eighty seven lower
humidity right now it's sixty eight and uptown and then
we wake up and we're finding.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Out all these people without power.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
It's up with that.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
So we have got a Stephanie Cohen in from the
North Side.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Now you work, you would normally be working at a warehouse,
but you lost your power.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Tell us what happened?
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Well, look, I went to sleep last night and then
my son woke me up. He's like, Mom, look it's
really waney. We're looking at the rain. Power cuts off. Well,
I'm like, I call center Point. They say it'll be
back on by four a m. So I try to
stay awake because my main thing is my food because
I just bought groceries. It's just so expensive. You know,
(05:34):
you can't because disregard that. I had to fight my
sleep because I have to work today. So I wake
up at six o'clock and we're still out of power.
I called center Point and now they don't even give
me a time. They said they're trying to do what
they can. So I wake up my kid and I'm like,
let's go by eyes. Put all our food in coolers,
(05:56):
and I'm going to My sister is forty minutes away,
but she's the only one I have close to me.
So we're on our way there now. So we're on
the beut waiting. Oh it's morning. But yeah, we'll get
through it. But it's just starting off a little crazy.
Speaker 2 (06:15):

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Car with the dogs and everything and the food.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Well, first of all, thank God for your sister. Yea,
how old is your son.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
He's seventeen, so he's my rock. I'm like, you're helping
me with everything.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Absolute, my god. He doesn't have school today right.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
No, actually he's a senior. He's graduating this week.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Oh my goodnay wow.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Oh Stephanie, I'm so sorry to hear that. What a
hassle and who would have expected this? Right?
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Yes, I know yesterday it was a little raining, but
I did not think it was going to be like this.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I no one did.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Jeez.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
