Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sunday ninety nine point one. We are Houston's holiday music station.
I'm Dana with producer Anthony and the three things you
need to know to get your Tuesday, December ninth started.
You want to stay away from the Houston Avenue Bridge.
Yesterday it was hit by an eighteen wheelerer. This isn't
the first time. This is the bridge's seventy third strike
amid that ongoing construction on I ten, which is going

(00:25):
to be ongoing through twenty twenty seven. So just go
back roads, dump off at Washington nine. There's a gazillion
different ways to get downtown, right, you don't have to
mess with that Houston Avenue Bridge so dangerous. Okay, So
why are more people moving out of Harris County than
moving in? It could be that area there, that's one reason,

(00:45):
But actually the flooding risks, rising housing costs, and sky
rocketing insurance. As a matter of fact, over thirty percent
of Harris County homes are in high risk blood zones. Wow,
and this isn't good. We might be spending a little
bit more money to go the toll ways in Fort
Ben County starting January first. YEP, the Fort Ben Tollway,

(01:07):
the Grand Park Way and West Park Tollway gonna go
up two to four cents, twenty five cents if you
don't have a tag. And again that starts January first
of twenty twenty six. Your weather today, beautiful, sunny. It's
gonna be just about perfect. We'll warm up to sixty five.
Right now, it's chilly. It's forty three in uptown and

(01:27):
you're up to date from Sunday ninety nine point one
as we get ready for the eight o'clock All Christmas
Music Hour and at eight ten it's our Battle of
the Burbs. I'm sunny. Tell me something good brought to
us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well Tooth Barbecue
smoking its way to the top of Texas Barbecue. Leo Batello,
he is the owner and he started in this little

(01:48):
shack in Brenham. He's now at this amazing location on
Washington Avenue. There's always a line. As a matter of fact, Anthony,
I waited in line for two hours at his Brenham
location when my daughter was having her baby boy. She's like, Mom,
all I want is truth barbecue. So that's what I
brought her. I brought everyone at the hospitals, Truth Barbicue

(02:09):
and Abigail Leo's wife, she is amazing. I met her
and are soon to be mother in law at Royer's
one night during Antique Week and she's like, you've never
heard of Truth Barbecue, And I go no, And I
was hooked, and the city is hooked. As a matter
of fact, the country is hooked. He is one of
the top piss pitmasters in the state. Isn't that amazing?

(02:31):
Few producer Anthony Dane.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
We've known our restaurants are tops here, and now there's
more numbers to prove it. One of our own was
named one of America's top grossing restaurants. So Restaurant Business
released its annual Top hundred Independence rankings this week and
it reveals the top grossing across the country, including the
yearly sales and number of meals served. And proud to
say our Taste of Texas comes in at number six

(02:53):
with over thirty four million in sales and over four
hundred and thirty thousand meals. And for a little context,
the restaurant for Fir appeared on the list ten years ago,
back in twenty fifteen or back then at placed number
thirty once again. Now it's number six, so add it
to your list. And congrats again to our Taste of Texas,
a Houston restaurant you have got to try in tops
in the country.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
And you know the thing about Taste of Texas is
they're so genuinely in love with the community. They really
are out the community all the time. They're just they're fantastic.
So congratulations. And there's an animal shelter in Dickinson trying
to get every dog and cat into a forever home
for Christmas. Yep, they have. They're going to offer adoptions

(03:33):
just twenty dollars for dogs and cats all month long.
It's Buy You Animal Services. Nina Baker is the director.
She says, even if it's just fostering or a trial adoption,
just come out and see. And the animals are fully vetted,
spade and neutered. They come with heartwarm meds if needed.
You can check them out it buy You Animalservices dot org.

Speaker 3 (03:55):

I'm Dana with producer Anthony. Kids were asked who they

(04:19):
think in their family deserves Christmas gifts more than anyone else,
and I kind of thought the kids would say me,
like them themselves, exactly right, but no, they gave that
honor to mom's mom. The kids came in second, and
we were wondering, you know, what have you and the
kids ever done for mom? Maybe dads are listening in.
You did something special for mom for Christmas. There is

(04:42):
nothing better from this Mom. I'm a mom of five speaking.
I will never forget when my daughter got all the
kids together, all five of the kids, and had this
and their spouses, some of them were married at the time.
This picture is probably maybe seven eight years old. I
think I remember this, Yeah, it is eight years old

(05:03):
because Milo was just just a new born that Danielle
gathered everybody and had a photographer take all different poses
of the kids and then she framed the picture that
she loved the most. It's my favorite picture. It's rare
on my mantlepiece. I love it.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
That's beautiful and that's very rare when that happened, well,
and I was I was literally just about to say that.
And with as many kid as you have and as
many lives and all these things going on in itself
is a feat.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Just out of town, yeah, everywhere together for that amazing picture.
It really is priceless. It's the little things. So thinking
about the best gifts for mom and uh and if
you ask your kids, you could be winning the car
with them right now. Who do you think deserves the
Christmas gifts? Who's been the nicest on the naughty and

(05:50):
Nice list? Give us a call? Seven one three two
ninety nine one Sunday ninety nine point one, Houston's Holiday
music station, I'm Dana with producer Anthony Nearly Impossible question
at six forty This morning, we learned that kids think
moms deserve Christmas gifts. This year, Mom, I thought it
would be the kids, but no, they said the moms.
The kids come in second. So we're asking you, moms,

(06:13):
what do you want for Christmas? We've got Ashley, a
mom calling in from Cyprus. First of all, Ashley, do
you think you deserve Christmas gifts? I do.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
I was also gonna say a dad too, but I do.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Good. Well, Okay, so you being a mom and you
know you work hard to work with those kids and
your husband. What does mom really want for Christmas?

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I think Mom really wants just a slow morning on
Christmas Day. A lot of times Mom is fixing all
the breakfast, getting all the kids ready for opening presents.
But just a slow morning where maybe breakfast is cook
for mom, or maybe a coffee is ready for Mom,
and then all things are taken care of.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Wouldn't that be a Christmas miracle?

Speaker 3 (06:58):
You know?

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Ashley, yesterday we learned that the most stressful time of
the holiday is actually twelve thirty on Christmas Day. It's
where Mom is just trying to you know, the hostess.
You're getting the cooking and all things, and it's just
like a twelve thirty you're going crazy. But at five
forty on Christmas Day, that's when you can rely finally.

(07:22):
Isn't that funny? Right?

Speaker 3 (07:23):
And maybe that I help with the less stressful one
in the evening because all things are done.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Exactly well, I hope hubby and the kids are listening
to mom. Ashley, maybe just have the coffee ready for mom, right,
wouldn't that be the best perfect?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Ashley, well, how many kids do you have? I have
to fantastic. Well, we wish you a very merry Christmas.
Are you all enjoying the Christmas music?

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Yes we are. I love it. Thank you so much for.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Playing absolutely Ashley. It is our pleasure and a merry
Christmas to all of you.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
