Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
here are the three things you need to know to
get your Tuesday, July fifteenth started. You drive up to
Huntsville along I forty five. It is just incredible that
sixty seven foot tall Sam Houston statue. David Addicks, the
Huntsville native. He was the one responsible for that that
(00:23):
we Love Houston sign as well as sculptures of our
US presidents and the Beatles. He passed away on Sunday
at ninety eight years old, described as a whimsical gentleman
and a brilliant mathematician, applying those skills to his sculptures.
While a recovery team from Mexico arrived in the Hill
Country to help out as well. They all had to
(00:45):
halt efforts yesterday because of the heavy rains, and they,
like other rescue teams in the area, are now using
maps to determine where best to resume their search once
conditions improve, hopefully today. And one of those revery volunteers
from Mexico is also great with woodworking, and he had
(01:06):
wood donate it to him. His name is Roberto Marquez
Wood donate it from volunteers in the area from Camp Mystic,
and he's made so far one hundred and forty eight
crosses honoring the victims of the fourth of July flooding.
And he continues to make crosses with each new discovery.
And the crosses are now lining the Guadaloupe Park fence.
(01:27):
There's also a wall there now for people to leave
messages and your weather today, no rain for us, just
a slight chance of a shower. More rain's going to
be moving in by Friday today, sunny going up to ninety.
Right now it's eighty and uptown and you're up to
date on sunny. Tell me something good brought to us
(01:47):
by our friends at Goodwill. Houston. Nine year old Kinlyn Tyler.
She is a barrel racer from New Waverly. She has
been a rising star in barrel racing. She's been riding
before she could even tirer shoes. She's earned money saddles, buckles,
but then came a nearly fatal accident. She was holding
her horse when he kicked her in the face. She
(02:09):
was out, Her mother was right there, couldn't believe it.
Fortunately she got up after a few minutes, but the
injuries were devastating. Twenty broken bones in her face, her
nose was shattered, multiple surgeries, but she is not stopping.
This little nine year old says she plans on returning
to the sport she loves as soon as the doctors
(02:31):
give her the okay. Meantime, she's speaking out to encourage
other kids to never give up on their dreams matter.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
That's amazing. Producer Anthony Dane, this is really cool. One
of my favorite healthy brands of ice cream, Halo Top,
is given away eight thousand pints of ice cream for
National ice Cream Day, and they have a very interesting
way they're doing it too. They're saying anyone that has
what they're calling an ice cream name can redeem a
free pint of Halo Top ice cream. And so an
ice cream name, it's your first, middle, or last name
(03:01):
matches any ice cream brand, think Ben and Jerry's, Van Lewin, Tillamook.
They give examples like Ben Jones, Jerry Smith and Robbins,
Blake Oatley or any other name that features in ice
cream brand. You're eligible for your free pipe. It's really cool.
National ice Cream Day is coming up July twentieth, but
as of now you can head to their website to
claim your free pipe. If you have one of those
ice cream names, just go to halo top dot com
(03:24):
forward slash ice cream Day.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
If you're having a baby, just an idea, just say okay.
These two young girls in Edna are determined to make
a difference for the families who have been devastated by
these fourth of July floods in the Hill Country. They
are raising money for the families by selling lemonade one
cup at a time. Riley Boone and Hayden Hass they
(03:48):
are eleven and ten years old. They set up an
a lemonade stand with one goal to help families affected
by floods. Their goal was to raise five thousand dollars,
while they raise six thousand dollars, then a generous donor
matched it to twelve thousand dollars. These two young girls
aren't giving up, they said. They plan on selling lemonade
(04:10):
and collecting money for those families all summer long. Incredible,
that amazing and for our feel good stories. Each weekday
mornings set a preset on the new and improved iHeartRadio
app to sunny naety one point nine manday naety nine
point one Houston Semeths variety in the eighties nineties, and
today I'm day note with producer Anthony. It is seven
twenty four. On a really nice day, we might see
(04:33):
a shower, nothing major today. Rain is moving in on
Friday though, to just be aware, so a couple of
dry days to get that yard mode. We're going up
to ninety today. Right now, it's eighty in Uptown, and
we're talking about grocery shopping services, services that professionals are
doing for us that we don't really need, but it's
a nice convenience. We learned in our nearly impossible question
(04:56):
that gen Z is spending twelve hundred dollars a year
on professor services that they could probably time.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
You know, they're getting back.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
They're getting back the time. That's exactly right. That's so
my son always says. Anyway, we've got Kathleen, Now, do
you do grocery shopping online? What's your experience?
Speaker 3 (05:13):
No, I don't trust someone to pick out the apples
and the produce.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Thank you, thank you who.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
She opened their HIV bag and it just had everything
that was like about to start molding her bruise from
her experience. Okay, so I just need like cereal. I
can trust that someone else I needed myself.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Exactly, you've got a gen Z Now she's right on
the cusp. Kathleen is twenty eight who doesn't trust these services?
But what about your friends? Do you feel like you're
just the on an island with all your friends doing
all these professional services to make their lives more convenient,
using apps for everything a couple.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
I feel like it's those who are the older gen
Z generation I have, like my friends who are closer
my age were kind of more di wires or try
to save and use our money for other things. But
if we definitely can't do it, like electrical work or
something that we are more than happy to hire a
professional for that.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Right. That is exactly some wise wordsact way you can
buy your house and renovate it.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Right exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
That's thank you excellent, that is awesome, and thank you
for listening to Sunday ninety nine point one.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Appreciate it. Thank you for much
