a warning. Channelview Galveston Aldean Lamar consolidated back to school today.

(00:22):
HISD kids go back tomorrow. Now it's going to be
a difficult detox period this year because the most significant
change happening at Texas schools no sell phones now. Over
the long run, experts say learning and overall mental health
will improve dramatically. But like any addiction, gonna take time,

(00:43):
and the Texans it's going to take time.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
They lost a preseason game two Minnesota twenty to ten
on Saturday, but it was more about showcasing what the
younger players could do. Most of the projected starters didn't play.
Next up, the Panthers come to town August sixteenth. Now we've
got some cloud's moving in today. We've got a fifty
percent chance of rain, so we'll have sun, we'll have rain.

(01:06):

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Summer Friday Nights in the Age have had a familiar
soundtrack over the past two decades for Astros home games
over at diyk in Park. The games usually conclude around
ten PM, and just twelve minutes after that last out
the night sky lights up with a stunning fireworks show.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
And forget chunk of the past twenty years.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
It was one couple behind this tradition, Vicki and Joe Walker,
who was back in six when the Astros tapped. Joe
a former special effects artist who then founded his own
pyrotechnic company, and the job became a ritual for Joe,
the same for his new wife Vicki and now her
son Nate. Nate says he's a process driven scientist too.
He pairs musical cues with this intricate firing system. He
chooses a collection of songs that had hit a designated time,

(02:55):
mixes them into this really cool, smooth, continuous track, and
then Vicky and everybody else picks a color for the
fireworks show. It's so amazing to get a sneak peak
about what makes it all happen. They keep it going
because they see all the happy Ustonians who made it
their tradition and they're honored who have brought all that
joy to the h for now two decades.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
And Anthony, the fireworks program begins amazing and it just
keeps getting better. You know, how do you improve upon this?
And boom, dude, that's what they do. Really is so
fun And okay, Houston haters, step aside. A new study
is out of the best cities in the US shows
Houston in the love ability category in addition to the liveability.

(03:35):
But I love this loveability. Yeah, we are above our
Texas counterparts. This study from Resonance found that Houston is
number eleven in the US, ahead of Dallas, Austin, and
San Antonio. Wow, love ability, Let's go, y'all. We aret
Houston and for our feel good stories each weekday mornings

(03:57):
set a preset on the new and improved iheartrate. Do
you app to Sonny Natty nine point one? Sunny Natty
nine point one, Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties,
And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony. Not much we
can do about the weather, but according to our nearly
impossible question, the weather really can impact our day as
this is a back to school week. It's the little

(04:19):
things that bring us joy, and most said that the
thing that brings them the most joy the simple thing.
A sunny day. How about that? Just the sun. I've
got a friend who she's like Dana. I know this
is so crazy, but I love to be comfy, cozy
at home when there's a big storm rolling. Oh see.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
I know a few people like that get that, like
that's having the thunder on Beyonce and in the distance.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
That kind of that.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Boy, I get that, But for me, I don't necessarily
need it storming. I don't mind. For me a light rain.
I can find some peace nice. Yeah, like that's cozy.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
But I'm out driving too often. I'm always the one
out in the rain while you're cuddled up. I know,
I know.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
So that's why I don't want the storm. I'll take
a little rain, but I don't need.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
It crazy with kids going back to school, they're on
the bus. That that is no. I We're a nice
sunny day. I would like a breeze to roll through.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
We need it.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Here attempts in the nineties anymore, I think we're over that,
although we still have a couple more weeks to go.
But a nice sunny day is so nice. But I
was thinking about it, Anthony, I just left the studio
for me, just radio station coffee. It's free, it's always available,
big cup. I just have a little shot of it,

(05:33):
and my day is made.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
You're not wrong, though, because even though and I've told
you how much I despise it as well too, there's
something very comforting of it.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
I was just about to say that I don't know
who's making it. It's like the coffee ferries and I
have no idea who's making that coffee there, and the
canisters are out and I think it's Texas Pecan is
the one that we're featuring today. Very nice and it's
one of those things though.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
I think too that it's of some of these efforts,
you know, that we get to enjoy and it's become
part of our happiness though, so you know, again, one
of those little things.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Okay, another little thing that makes me happy. In the
bathrooms here, when you go into the bathroom there is
instrumental sunny music. I knew you were gonna say that,
like it's Taylor Swift or Maroon five, But with the
violin I've heard Sam Smith, and I was like, I
know this song and it's just it's just this solo
piano thing.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Like sitting there, I'm like, I'm humming, I'm saying the
words at yep.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
You know it. The little things I have no control over,
it just brings me comfort. I enjoy.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Try to find the joy in every one of those things.
What about you? What are the little things.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
You really don't have maybe control over, but it just
brings you joy and comfort. We'd love to hear from you.
Seven one, three, two one two five ninety nine one
Sunny ninety nine point one. He seems best aliety of
the eighties, nineties and today seven twenty one, back to school.
We've got several districts going back to school today, Channel
of you, Galveston, Aldan Lamar, Consolidated HISD going back tomorrow.

(06:59):
Bus drivers, we are praying for you, and of course
teachers and administrators, all of you. It's going to be
a great school year. On Dana with producer Anthony, we
find it's the little things that can make our day
well we have no control over. In our nearly impossible question,
it was a sunny day, Sonny. Yeah, that's yeah. And
we're asking you the little things that make your day.
Net Taylor calling in from Tumble. You're an interventional radiology.

(07:23):
That's pretty amazing, and so we're talking the little things
that make your day. What would it be for.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
You when a patient tells us how much they appreciate
what we're doing, Because then it makes me feel like
people actually are appreciating what we're doing.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
That is amazing. Oh though you know that are and
I'm sure that was a big driving force and why
you chose to do this in life. What was your
inspiration that got you to this, because I'm sure you
it required a lot of studying.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, I actually I went to X ray school and
I found out that this was an opportunity and they
train on the job, so I didn't.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Have to go back to school.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
For the interventional part and I got to be more
hands on and involved in the case. So I liked
that aspect that I got to help the patients a
little bit more.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
It's amazing, Taylor went back to school today for so
many districts. What was school like for you? Was this
like I just loved being in school or were you determined,
like I want to get out of school and start
my life.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Absolutely just wanted to get out of school.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
I was over it. Did you have any favorite subjects,
any favorite teachers that you can remember.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
I had a lot of favorite teachers. My band directors
were amazing, and I had one geometry teacher that was amazing,
even though I hated geometry. But my favorite subject was
probably anatomy and physiology, which tracks.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
I was going to say, tracks amazing. So you did band?
Were you practicing outdoors in the heat getting ready for
your the football games and stuff?

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Every year I have the tanlines to prove it.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Same here, Taylor. Same hey. I was watching them do it.
That was my week, thinking, man, this is our producer
an Well, Taylor, it's fun to have those memories. Glad
that you found the train that really brings you such joy,
and it really is the little things in life. Right, yes, ma'am,
Thanks so much, Taylor. But great day, Taylor.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
All right, sounds good.
