Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm Dana. That's producer Anthony, and we have Houston's holiday
music all season long for you. I also have the
three things you need to know to get your Thursday,
December fourth started. We spoke with a Sunny listener yesterday
who trains AI and she says AI has been getting
it wrong a lot. So that's one example. Another example,
AI apparently telling kids there's no Santa Claus. Well, that's false,
(00:25):
because we're going to be following Santa Claus's journey on
Christmas Eve. We'll have reports from Norad as they track
his route to Houston. Google apologized for that, by the way,
but AI did get something really right this year, and
we have to give AI a little bit of credit.
Apparently there is a model developed by Google's Deep Mind,
(00:47):
and it says AI performed amazing at predicting a storm's
rapid intensification. The model had the best overall accuracy for
tracking hurricanes this season of twenty five twenty five, so
definitely coming in handy and could be a really big
life saving technology. Really though, so pretty cool. And we
(01:08):
got to wonder, you know, with the Nutcracker happening downtown
and everything, does the Seven Headed mouse king. Has it
been getting loose because there's a lot of mice. Well, actually,
there are rats running around city Hall. It's true. Residents
have seen them. Apparently this is a Parks department charge.
Apparently these rats have You can see the holes that
(01:30):
they're living in during the day and then they come
on out at night, just scurrying all around the Christmas
decorations downtown. Got to get that taken care of. Super
fast weather today kind of rainy, dreary, chilly too. We're
only going to go up to fifty five right now,
it's fifty four in uptown and you're up to date
on sunny. Tell me something could have uti friends, pasty welk,
(01:53):
Mollies and the holidays. Anthony, you know that right, you're
a big Tomalis man. Mama's to Mollie's at Eattomali's dot com.
Annasoria she's the owner and she says it was her mom,
Leonar who totally inspired her to open up this company
in bel Air. Now, Leonard told her very competitive daughter
(02:14):
Anna she could never make to Molly's as good as hers. Well,
Anna took on the challenge. Now Mama is no longer
with us, but her Tomali's are in bel Air order
now for the holidays. You can order by the dozen.
They've got pork and chicken and spinach and cheese and
halapeno and cheese, black bean and cheese, and they are
(02:34):
about fifteen ninety nine per dozen and they look absolutely amazing,
so you want to check them out at Eat Tomali's
dot com.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Producer Anthony Dane, this is adorable. There's a tiny newcomer
over at our Moody Gardens. The Galveston's Aquarium's Penguin Colony
recently welcomed a new Macaroni penguin chick on November eleven.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
It's a fluffy, fluffy.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Hatchling weigh only ninety grams, which is under a pound
by the way, and the macron penguins are a species
of crested penguins. They have a fun, fun yellow feathers
that grow across their forehead kind of like a unibrow.
And for now, the chick is tucked away with its
parents and they'll stay together until the youngster begins to roam.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
They're very curious.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Three things shiny or colorful explore with their beaks and
I love their name. In tradition, Dane. The original adults
were named after cheeses. This particular chick was born to
parents Gorgonzola and Blue, and then every chick hatch more
recently gets apausta name. They already have ones named like
Spaghetti Linguini. In a few weeks they're going to run
a DNA test to determine the gender. The new chick
will have a few options for its name. It's so
(03:33):
cute and another reason to visit Moody Gardens this holiday season.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
So much fun. Meat, a penguin, a macaroni peng Right,
I love that. Okay. A Texas Children's Hospital nurse has
something huge to be thankful for. Here's the way destiny works.
She just the transmission in her car just went out,
so she's been really struggling with how to get to
work well. She was one of three nurses nominated for
(03:56):
a special prize because of their high Achievement awards, and
Mallory Key was the winner. She got a brand new
Toyota donated by Keating Toyota. Earlier this year, Mallory was
named the Texas Children's twenty twenty five Staff Nurse of
the Year for her compassion and her commitment to embodying
what a nurse truly means. And imagine working with these
(04:20):
these six children, really children's. Oh so, the fact that
her transmission went out, this car was available, I mean
that is meant to be. Mallory, congratulations. That is amazing.
And listen. We always have our tell Me Something Good
stories up for you at Sunday ninety nine dot com. Also,
you can check us out on the iHeartRadio app. Make
sure you make us your first free set and makes
(04:40):
it even easier for you to listen to Houston's Holiday
Music Station Sonny ninety nine point one Sunday ninety nine
point one, Houston's Holiday Music Station on Dana with producer
Anthony at seven eleven. Now our nearly impossible question. It's
really funny. We found out that seventeen percent of us
get a real Christmas tree. Now eighty percent of us
(05:02):
love real Christmas trees. That sounds right, yeah, uh, you
know in our minds. But then when it comes to
our minds, the reality of picking up pine needles, yeah,
kind of slaps us in the face and we go
back to a fake tree. Plus, you know, you just
package it up and you have it every year, so
you save a boatload of money as well. My daughter
in law got a real tree and she sent me
(05:23):
pictures with her three kids. My son was nowhere around.
I found that very interesting. But anyway, I was like, Justine,
but you're you have carpeting in your living room. Who
picks up all the pine?
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I do? But she doesn't. She's a very relaxed lady.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Oh she cares, so she says, really, I don't think
she piled up underneath.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
I'm to type a personality like it's launch balls, I'm
going get it out of your guys, get the room,
get the vacuum. It made me insane. I think I
got a real tree three times, and I was trying
so hard to be festive and relaxed. But it wasn't
relaxing for me. It just I guess it depends on
your your clean tie personality.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
That's a good point, though, because yeah, you go into
that knowing this is gonna make a mess, and either
you're okay with that, you see it because my mom
did the same thing as you. It's been a while,
but like, yeah, there was a period where she did
get a real tree here and there, and.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
It was so fun.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Beau first, Yeah, and then and then it's like, oh,
there's may. Like the smell is amazing, but the maintenance
just you get busy. Obviously the holidays are busy. You
get busy, and then, as you said, days will go
by it and you look over.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
And it's just pile of needles here, and I I'd
start thinking, I'm not even looking at the ornaments. Now
I walk into the living room and I'm looking at
the pine needles. Oh my gosh. And that's no fun, right, No,
it's not. What about you, you guys getting real? You're
getting fake and tell us about your ornaments. That's always
my favorite. And now that there are Christmas trees with
white lights or you can switch to colorful lights. Yeah, control,
(06:48):
it's an amazing technology advance. I love for Christmas trees.
Let us know about yours. Seven one three two one
two five ninety nine one Sunday ninety nine point one
Houston's Holiday mus station and you listen to the Christmas
music on this cold, blustery day, it just kind of
makes you smile. And then add that it's National Cookie
Day and you can actually get free cookies. I mean,
(07:09):
what a great Thursday. I'm Dana with producer Anthony, we're
talking about Christmas trees. We've learned that only seventeen percent
of us are getting real trees, even though a survey
by Real Trees says, oh no, it's more like eighty percent.
Well consider the source. The fact is, we love the
idea of a real tree, but there's so many inconveniences,
(07:32):
not to mention, it's expensive, so we keep going back
to our fake tree. But we want to hear about
your tree, real or fake. But most importantly the kind
of ornaments, because it's that is definitely where the family
tradition begins. My grandpa Wilson made these ornaments out of
egg cartons, you know, very frugal back in the day.
(07:53):
He made them out of egg cartons and glued them together,
spray painted them gold, and then hung little ornaments, little
dangling little ornaments from each They were kind of like
trickle ornaments. Absolutely beautiful. I always include Grandpa's ornaments on
my Christmas tree. And because they're made out of egg cartons,
they never broke. That's also true. Yeah, all these years,
(08:14):
I mean, it's pretty amazing. Now we've got Ashley calling
in from Cyprus, first grade teacher. Now I'm glad you're
I'm sure your class is decorated beautifully, but I want
to know about your home, your Christmas tree, your ornaments
tell us about it.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
So we do have a fake Christmas tree, although the
real Christmas tree would look amazing.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
It is a lot of work. Yeah, all you.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
In our ornaments. My son we were talking about in
the car.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
We love the simple look. Although it's a grand tree.
It's nine foot. We have the red and the white
and the brown, so it all comes together very nice.
Oh beautiful. Now your son's in the car. He is
what's his name, Joseph? Does Joseph help with the decorating?
Did he come up with this color palette for you?
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (09:02):
I did come up with the colors. Oh okay, what
is it about the Christmas and colors? And where do
you get this inspiration from? Do you just love Christmas
so much?
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (09:12):
I love it Christmas so much because at school I'm
very like decorating when I love to be an artist.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
When I so I just think, just come at my
mind and I just say, let's do this, let's do that,
and my mom says, yes, we could do that.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
It's amazing, amazing, You're just when you were born an artist.
That is, you are a lucky guy. I'm telling you, what,
what's your favorite thing? Do you like to paint or
are you more into decorating homes? What's your favorite type
of joy? I'd like to well, you are a lucky guy.
After you you know, you guys need to do You
need to send us a picture of your Christmas tree
(09:53):
and we'll post it up on our Instagram. Okay, okay,
we'll do that. I love that. Well, you guys have
a very manyry Christmas. Joseph, do you like Christmas music? Yes?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I do.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
I'm so glad. Will you guys enjoy it and a
very merry Christmas. Guys, appreciate you. Ashley.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Let's head over to Katie and speak with Christen. Tell
us about your Christmas tree, real or fake? And what
are your ornaments like this year?
Speaker 3 (10:17):
So if you get a real tree, I possess getting
a flock tree because it really does help with the
pine NATO's not falling down the genius.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
That is genius. I never even thought about that. Okay,
so you've got a real flock tree, so.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
It also you don't have that nice aroma as much
if you have a flock tree. But at least you
don't have.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
That, right, right, I think when you weigh the benefits
and the pros and the cor right, yeah, flocked. So
when you get a flocked real tree, what kind of
ornaments have you paired it with? Well?
Speaker 3 (10:50):
I have a lot of ornaments from my grandmother, and
she had a lot of big gold musical instruments and
I put those on glass fall.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Oh that's beautiful, oh, Chris.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
And just a little bit of red in there too.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
That sounds beautiful. When did when did you put your
tree up?
Speaker 3 (11:11):
I haven't even put it up here?
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Okay, when's the party? When are you gonna do it?
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Probably this week?
Speaker 1 (11:18):
And with the cold, with the colder weather, you get
some hot chocolate. I mean it'll definitely get you into
the holiday spirit. And then you get to listen to
the sunny Christmas music, right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
I put on nine nine point one on Alexa.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Oh appreciate, Kristen. That is excellent. Will have fun decorating, yes,
and very very merry Christmas, me too, chast
