eighties nineties, and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
the Three Things we Need to Know to get our Wednesday,
July ninth started while Governor Greg Abbott has been touring
the devastation from the Fourth of July floods in Kirk County.
Latest numbers over one hundred and sixty one are still missing,
one hundred and nine have died, and that surpasses Hurricane
(00:25):
Harvey well. In Center Pointe, Texas, it's a town about
ten miles from ker Kerrville, a group of veterans and
first responders and volunteers are doing more than helping. They
work with lone Star heroes and what they do is
normally they're providing outdoor therapy for these veterans, but they've
pivoted to this mission to lend.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Search and release efforts.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
They have walked at least twenty two miles just going
through debris step by step with saws everything they need
to see if they can help out in the search
and relief effort. They're bringing in dogs as well, which
will help better to locate things. So just an unbelievable
amount of work that needs to be done and they
(01:09):
need our help. Now, we have set up the Kirk
County Flood Relief Fund. You can find all the details
at sunny ninety nine dot com. And there are other
ways to help too. American Furniture Warehouse accepting donations through
tomorrow at their five hundred Pinoak Road location from ten

are going to the relief effort. Also, Typhoon, Texas, you
(01:32):
can donate gently used items.

dollars worth of donations and you can get your complimentary tickets.
So so many ways to help with those families dealing
with the devastation there. Our weather today, it's starting out beautiful,
but we can't rule out potential flooding this afternoon. Lots
of heavy rain on the way. It's sunny now, we're
(01:56):

are dealing with. Well, they have shifted that mission to
search and relief effort. They have been walking over twenty
three twenty four miles and miles, sifting through debris, using saws,
cutting through trying to help in the relief effort after
the fourth of July devastating floods. Lewis Santana, a Navy
(02:42):
veteran and the founder of the group, said his group
is made up of veterans, first responders, volunteers with search
and rescue experience, and just people with a simple desire
to want to help. Lewis says he grew up in
the area. He knows people in the hunt comfort areas,
and he sees they're all coming together helping to give
(03:02):
these devastated families some closure. They are bringing in dogs
now to help in location efforts, and the counties are
coming together offering hope where it's needed the most. It's
just an incredible organization. Lone Star Heroes producer Anthony Dan
this is really cool turning the tragedy into something positive.
He goes by the name Cowboy Dave. His real name
(03:24):
is David Graham.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
He says that his family's life is about disaster relief.
They go into a community and instead of being first responders,
he says, they're what they call first impactors. Cowboy Davis
traveled the nation responding to disaster, spreading love and positivity.
He uses spray paint and creates signs that he then
spreads around the community, and it could be anything pieces
of metal, discarded appliance, as even large rocks. He says,
(03:45):
there's signs that, just for a minute, let you know
that someone else cares about you and you're not alone.
He's known for creating his Heart's Hurt picture. He says
it's to acknowledge that it's our time of morning. We
need our hearts fixed. So on a big boulder that
the Guadaloupe dropped off the bank of the river, Cowboy
Dave left is recognized creation. It's a healed heart that
says Texas strong, with Kerrville hunt ingram on the sides.
