Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday nighty nine point one, Houston's best variety of the
eighties nineties. And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony and
we've got the three things you need to know to
get your Monday, September fifteenth started Big Sports weekend. I
was sitting on a plane coming back from Denver, sitting
with the Dynamo Dose. They beat Colorado Rapids one to nothing.
This is like the junior team for the Dynamo Pilot
(00:24):
was congratulating them.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
The whole plane was orange. It was so fun.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
And with that we learned that Texas A and M
has jumped into the top ten after beating Notre Dame
forty one to forty. Now, University of Texas they dropped
one spot. They're number eight now in the nation, Ohio
State number one, Penn State two, LSU number three. And
then speaking of football, Texans Monday Night Football taken on
(00:48):
Tampa Bay tonight at six pm. So it'll be a
lot of fun. They're hosting Tampa Bay. So who leads
the Al West?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Now? Speaking of baseball, it's not our Astros.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Their loss in Seattle's win, the Mariners have snatched the
top spot after a nine game winning streak. Two weeks
left in the regular season, Seattle now one game ahead
of our Astros. Astros lost to Atlanta eight to three.
They host the Rangers three games beginning today and tomorrow
and Wednesday. And in Texas City, there is a deputy
(01:20):
changing lives, one family at a time with these blessing boxes.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
His name is Deputy Max Sandford, and he runs these
boxes soup beans enough to feed a family at dinner,
neighbors and the deputies stalk them then re stock them
as needed. And it really is possible for one person
to make a difference in the lives of others with.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
These beautilessing bidies.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
In Texas City, now, weather, we've got some dynamic skies, rain, sun,
a little bit of both. Maybe definitely warm though. We
are going to warm up to ninety two today right now,
seventy five in uptown and you're up to date, I'm sunny.
Tell me something good brought to us by our friends
at Goodwill Houston. Well Shipley Donuts was purchased by a
(02:06):
California company.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
You heard that. It happened several weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Now this isn't for me, but for those of you
who like to multitask. You might want to check out
Shipley's new flavor. It's coming to town. It's the Shipley's
Cold Brew Donut with caffeine baked in fifty six milligrams
brams of caffeine. That's a little less than an eight
ounce cup of coffee. So you get the cole brew
(02:31):
flavor with Shipley's Classic Buttermilk Cake donut.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
And that glaze. It's a two week deal.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
It starts September twenty sixth, and it's all to celebrate
National Coffee Data.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
That sounds amazing.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
That sounds interesting.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
I love that, producer, Anthony Dan, this is awesome too. Adidas,
along with retailer Hibbitt, has unveiled a new Texas themed
State Fair Superstar shoes and these are so cool to
set itself. Apart from the standard three stripe shoe first
introduced as low top basketball shoes back in nineteen, the
Texas themed Superstars have the state flag's colors and whimsical designs.
(03:05):
There's embossing a Dallas Star, belt, buckle, corn dog, even
a Ferris wheel kind of accents around there, and the
bottom sole was even utilized in it's the Texas silhouette
they're gonna find right there at the bottom.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
It looks so cool.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
The Superstar is going to be available at stores throughout
the Dallas area and online at Hibbit while supplies last.
But they only made thirteen about thirteen hundred pairs of these,
so keep an eye on their website. They dropped September twenty.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
It's so cool, very cool, very good, and I love
this helping residents learn about property tax exemptions. Newly elected
Harris County tax Assessor and Nett Ramirez that's her goal.
She's teaching residents how property taxes work and how they
can keep the burden as low as possible with workshops
throughout the area.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Now.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
One resident, Linda Whittington, she did not understand the complications
of property taxes.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
She inherited her dad's home. The value had.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Increased, which sounds good, but as the value shows up,
so do your property taxes. She learned she owed fourteen
thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
She could never pay that well.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
It aired on ABC and an anonymous viewer was so
moved by her story she paid the bill in full.
WHOA imagine having the resources to just help a person
out like that. Really, I just love that so those
are your tell me something Good stories for Sunday naty
nine point one. On this Monday Sunday naety nine point one,
(04:29):
Houston's best variety of the eighties nineties, and today I'm
Dana with producer Anthony Well. We learned in our nearly
impossible question that we will show up early for these
two things, not anything else. Just a job interview and
a concert. Oh that's It doesn't matter if it's a
family event, if it's a job interview or a concert,
(04:49):
we will be there early.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
And I'll never forget Anthony.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Everyone except my daughter and my family shows up chill time.
They show up when they want, and including my husband,
daughter and I Danielle, we are always early. I remember
someone telling me you must be fifteen minutes early, no
matter what.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, some people.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
We have a question up on Facebook about showing up early.
Some people are convinced it's thirty minutes. That's too long
for me. I get too anxious if I'm sitting and waiting.
I think fifteen minutes before appointment time is perfect.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
See, they do like to say that, but then inevitably
there's always people that show up late anyway, So like that,
don't care.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
That's right, it's still time.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
But that's why, like I try to just like, Okay,
if they're going to be late, I'm just gonna be
on time, on time, because why should I be early
if they're going.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
To be like I know, you know, that's one of
the that's the conundrum. That's what it is. I just
want to be early because I'm more relaxed. I think
it was Let's see, who was it that said. I
think it was it John.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
That makes sense, Like I just like, hell all on
Chris said he's adamant about showing up early.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
It was Chris.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I'm showing up early so I can sit there and
watch everyone show up late. I mean right, He's just
like I'm here, that's what I'm not stressed, and everyone
else is crazy. My oldest son, Bobby, he tells everyone
else to be early, and then I sit there. I'm
like Chris, I sit there and watch him show up late. Anthony,
(06:15):
I had a trip for his kids. I was taking
them to Montana because he always wanted to go to Montana. Okay,
all right, So my husband Mitch and I were there.
We get a call from Bobby. He missed the plane.
His kids were crying because they wanted to be with me,
and I said absolutely nothing.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
It was kind of like, you know, just don't say anything.
God will At that point, what do you do? I know,
I know he had to deal with it. I'm sending
him pictures, Bobby. Too bad you missed it anyway. What's
your thoughts on showing up late? Is it just like
you know what, if I'm meant to be there, I'll
be there. I'm not going to worry about it.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I'll mind, yes.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Or are you more militant like we must be there
fifteen minutes early. Love to hear from you, because they
say and who they are. I guess the researchers the
experts that if you show up late, it's very selfish.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
It is, I mean it kind of is. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Seven one three, two one two five ninety nine one
would love from you. Sunday nightty nine point one Houston's
Best Variety of the eighties nineties and today I'm Dana
with producer Anthony. We were talking about showing up early
for two events in our life, very selfishly, job interview
and a concert your favorite artist probably that we play
here on Sunny.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
We'll show up early for that. But other things forget it.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
And we're asking you about, you know, showing up chill
time or are you an early person? And I'm definitely
fifteen minutes early every time. I feel like that's safe.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Anthony.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
You just show up on time, right on time. Appointments
at ten. Anthony's there at ten because somebody else is
going to be late, exactly exactly. And we've got Johnny
Engineer calling in from Parland. John I just noticed yesterday
that Pairland you made US News World and Report Best

Speaker 2 (08:11):

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah? Yeah, is that?
Speaker 2 (08:14):

thing about Paarland for you and your family?
Speaker 3 (08:37):

we can go down town, we can enjoy the city
that we want to and have a good time.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
That's excellent.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Well, you know our nearly impossible question this morning, speaking
of venues, we learned that we show up early for
job interviews, yes, and concerts, but not for our family
or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
But just wanted to ask you personally.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Are you a person who shows up early or you
kind of liked chill and you just show up when
you arrive?
Speaker 3 (09:05):
I think I'm chill. Yes, my man.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Are you married?
Speaker 3 (09:12):

Your wife take the car and just she'll just say,

Speaker 3 (09:22):
She does that sometimes that's my husband.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
He's like, he goes, I'm trying to put my contacts in.
I go, Bob, you should have done that twenty minutes ago.
How long have you been married?
Speaker 3 (09:36):
We've been married for twenty six years?
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (09:41):
And what what? What's your wife's name?
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Celeste?
Speaker 1 (09:43):
What was it about Celestia that you just loved her
so much and you knew she was the one?
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Yes? When we met, we that far and he was
just spunky, you know, had that spunk about her. And
she's always trying to do the best.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I love that she doesn't nag you for showing up late, right,
she just lets you be chill sometimes. Well, Johnny, it's
nice to talk to you. And how did you find
Sunday ninety nine point one.
