Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's best variety of the eighties, nineties,
and today, and it's a feel good Friday. I'm Dana
with producer Anthony, and here are the three things you
need to know to get your Friday August twenty seconds started. Remember,
kids are back at school. We need to be so
careful at school crossings. And a reminder after a student
was hit by a car in front of Lamar High
School at the crosswalk and Mayor Whittmeyer showed up at

(00:25):
that crosswalk with a promise, because right now there's just
a sign. They're going to install a hawk signal. It's
a high intensity activated crosswalk where students can activate a
red light. So that will be another glaring example slow down.
And unfortunately that student is okay, all right, Anthony, I
were talking about Highway ninety nine. Oh yeah, grandpart. It

(00:48):
can be really crazy and it's going to get crazier
still as tech Dot announcing plans to break ground on
a major expansion off Highway ninety nine between Katie Freeway
and two.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Nine from two lanes to three. It's gonna be a nightmare.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
It's gonna start happening mid tod say so yep. You
know what that means, more traffic yep in that area
and lots of rain. Last night, as a matter of fact,
there were two high water rescue calls to Harris County
Sheriff's office at Corda Cali Drive in bel Air and
another at mar Vista and Camino del Soul. It could
happen again today and even tomorrow. We've got like a

(01:26):
sixty percent chance. I'm seeing storms right now in the
Galleria area. We're gonna have lots of rain. We could
have two inches of rain today alone, so be aware,
and then more rain coming in tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Today's high eighty six.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Right now, it is seventy nine in Uptown, and you're
up to date on sunny. Tell me something good brought
to us by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Tomorrow at NRG,
it's the Battle of the Bands. TSU's Ocean of Soul
and Prairieview A and M's Marching Storm will highlight this
competition alongside six other HBCU programs. It's thirty seven bucks.

(02:02):
It starts at four. My son Matt did drumline.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
It was my favorite thing to watch for.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
All those parents who created such amazing kids who entertain
us with their drumming skills, un and dancing and acting unbelievable.
Good luck to all of you and have so much fun.
Producer Anthony Danny's out here living the dream. His name
is John Toomey. He's ninety seven years old, a proud
you of h Alum and former attorney. He's also the

(02:27):
proud owner of J bar M Barbecue, one of our goats.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
In h Town. I love that place. It's an e doo.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, it's delicious. His interest in barbecue was actually sparked
as a kid. When he was just twelve years old,
he would borrow bricks from neighbors to build a makeshift
pit and smoke meat. John then finally fulfilled his lifelong
dream at the age of ninety three and opened up
jbar M Barbecue off Leland Street. The end, by the way,
is a nod to his late wife, Micheline. His grandson Charles,
also works at the restaurant. He says his grandpa is
his hero. He says if he's half the man he

(02:54):
is when he gets older, he'll be doing good. And
John says the secret sauce to a long, happy life
staying busy active, doing something you love and of course
eating more barbecue.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
So cool.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Hear the story behind one of our favorite places, So
reason to check out jbar M Barbecue. Thank you John
Toomey showing us all how to live wife to the fullest,
even well into our nineties.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
And he's always walking around there making sure everything's beautiful
and the coleslaw is incredible. First one to let you know, hey,
Yellowstone fans, a Yellowstone spinoff will be filmed in a
small Texas town. It's called Faris, Texas, right near Dallas,
about three and a half hours away from us. Kelly
Riley and Coolhauser aka Beth and Rip they're gonna star

(03:35):
in this spinoff. Yellowstones creator Tailor shared and said he
promised he'd be incorporating more of his home state to
this Montana production and looking forward to it. Don't know
the name yet, but it is They've already got the
crew in Farris, Texas.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
So cool. I love it and for our feel good stories.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Each weekday mornings set a preset on the new and
improved iHeartRadio app to Sonny Natty nine point one. Sunny
Natty nine point one, Houston's best variety of the eighties,
nineties and today I'm Dana with producer Anthony. We love
taking a moment on a Friday to just focus on
feel good stories. Something that made you feel good, maybe

(04:14):
you made someone else feel good, and when you share
your stories, then we can copy you and that for
someone else. Because I exactly when we started hearing about
those you know, paying it forward in the car lines
at the.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Coffee Oh, I know. I mean that just it was
just like, why didn't I think of something I told
you that happened to me at our Chick fil A?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
And it, I mean, it sounds like such a simple thing,
but man, it like it blindsided me and I like
completely turned my day around because I was so focused
on just whatever I was doing, and the sweet lady
in the window, she's like, oh, the family paid for it.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I was like what.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I was like, uh uh so I had to do
it for the car behind me. Those moments that you
just like, Okay, I need to do more. I'm want
to put this back into the world.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
It's just we just need to be reminded.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, I mean, we all have an extra five dollars
that we can just do to help.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Someone else out.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
And I think it was was it the micro random
acts of kindness trending this week? And it doesn't even
You don't even need five dollars, a kind word, a special.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Note, holding the door open, that's something.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Like that, helping out a coworker, something kind that you
do once a day for thirty days and it's just
and you go, oh, I could do that, but then
you forget. So this is just kind of our reminder
on a feel good Friday, and we would love to
hear from you. Maybe something happened to you that made
you feel good. A coworker helped you out, maybe a

(05:35):
teacher helped you out.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
If you're a student, we'd love to hear from you.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Seven one three two one two five ninety nine one
