Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to the Royal West Show on News Talk five sixty.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Man, we are excited today.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
We're gonna have a fantastic show with people from all
over Southeast Texas and we're just gonna jump right into
it with the one and only Chelsea Tipton. He is
the music director of the Symphony of Southeast Texas. Chelsea,
how are we doing today?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Doing great? Happy new year?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yes, also a great start and looking forward to the
second half of our season. And I so appreciate you
all for inviting me to this show and to talk
about the incredible Symphony of Southeast Texas, celebrating seventy two
years and celebrating my sixteenth season as music director. So
it's been a great It's continues to be a great
ride here.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Wow, seventy two years in sixteen years for yourself, just
continuing to grow and thrive and bring new things to
Southeast Texas. So, you know, talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
New things and introducing new things to maybe new players
and more or musicians. What are y'all doing in the
next couple of months to kind of flourish and encourage that.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Well, you know, January is kind of a retooling period
for the Orchestra. We don't do any public performances, but
we focus more on education. So at the beginning of
the month, January fifth, we had our concerto competition. We
had seven wonderful young high school students who came and
performed for us from memory and they the winner. The

(01:35):
first three places get cash prizes, but the winner, the
first place prize gets to play with the Symphony of
Southeast Texas and in a concert, and so they'll play.
The winner is Matthew Lou who played the Mendelstown Piano
Concerto number one, the third movement, and so he's going
to be featured on our education concerts, which will be

(01:56):
happening in about two weeks towards the end of January.
We were talking before we came on air. You know,
music education is just the DNA of any arts organization.
We don't often advertise it. We don't publicize it on radio, TV.
It's just something that we do. Is we we'll bust
in fifteen hundred, sixteen hundred fifth graders from bisD and

(02:18):
surrounding school systems, homeschoolers and they'll come and listen to
the symphony.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
We have a theme.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
We have we'll have a dance portion of the concert.
We'll have artwork from the kids. The fifth graders in
the bisD will be showing that during the course of
the concert, and of course we have the same in
Southeast Texas, and there's always a theme to the concert.
So it's an educational forty five minute program. We do
two on that Wednesday morning, one at nine thirty and

(02:43):
another one at eleven eleven AM. And it's just you know,
those were memories that I had when I was a kid,
and I was a fifth grader in North Carolina, and
I was inspired by the North Carolina Symphony coming to
Greensboro and doing the same thing. And so we're very
excited that I'm also doing a concert with the All
State Regional Regional Band. I don't often conduct band. It's

(03:08):
a very new thing for me, but I think as
artists we have to always try to push outside of
our comfort zone. And I grew up in the band tradition.
I'm a clarinetis you were a clarinetis as well? Now
you played that car and and that's you know, You're
You're a prime example of what we're trying to do
with our education concert you're not. You didn't major in music,

(03:29):
you didn't go to school, and but it's a hobby,
it's an appreciation. And if we can with those kids
that come, we can create just music appreciators that they
might usher at the symphony when they grew up. They
might bring their family to the Nutcracker when it's performed.
They might go to the Amset Art Museum and see

(03:52):
an exhibit. That's we have accomplished what we are our
mission of what we're trying to do with music education,
and you're a prime example of that. You do so
many wonderful things in the community, but you like to
play a little guitar from time to time. You have
a location for the clarinet. That's what you played when
you were a child. So that's what we want to
do with our music education initiatives. With the Symphony of

(04:12):
southeat texts, I'm talking a lot of I'm talking fast.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Because I'm so excited. Be quiet, selthy, slow it down.
You're doing great. No, I love it. No, And but
you're hitting the nail on the head right.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
I mean doing all the things that you do with
the adults and the symphony and the performances that's all fantastic,
it's incredible, and y'all do an amazing job, just top notch, right,
But it's important to remember that, like there's a fifth
grader that may have never been introduced to music or
any formal type of music in his mind is going

(04:47):
to be blown when he walks into that auditorium and
sees all the things and goes, you know what, this
is accessible to me.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I can do this. It is accessible.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
And you know with the concerto comp winner, he's a
twelfth grader in high school. We have the dancers, there'll
be grades nine through twelve. We have the artwork from
the young people, the people that are coming to the concert,
but the schools that will be attending of the concert.
It's important for young people to see other young people
do it. I try to relate to a fifth grader.

(05:19):
I'm much much older than a fifth grader, and our
orchestra is an adult orchestra. But when kids see other
young kids performing for them, then they think, oh, maybe
I could play the piano, Maybe I could play the clarinet,
maybe I could play the saxophone. So it's important to
have the different levels and the different levels of support
in the community. One of the things I do appreciate
about Mayor West is he comes to many of our concerts.

(05:43):
You see him at lots of lots of arts organization
events throughout the city, and that's an important message that
he sends to our community of the importance of the
arts well.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
And he loves doing it, he really does.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
And it's funny because you know, he's not a top
forty kind of guy through a symphony and he loves
every second of it, you know, and he loves the different.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Dynamics and all that. And you know, I have very
far memories.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
I grew up in Dallas and I got to go
to Dallas Symphony and they would they would bust us there. Yeah, right,
and we just be able to see these incredible, really
just performances. And as a young child, that was very
impowerful for me. So I appreciate what y'all are doing.
It's important for our community. It's really important for those kids. So,
you know, and you're doing all state too, I'm.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Doing all state. I'm gonna it's going to be a trip.
It's going to be interesting. And you know, music is music,
whether it's choir, whether it's band, whether it's orchestra, but
each has its own flavor of how you approach things
and the band, the concert band world is different from
the marching band world, which is different from the orchestra world,
but we're still playing the same notes. So I think

(06:56):
it's important for these band students to work with an
organ conductor and we're doing a piece that's been transcribed
from orchestra to band, and that's kind of my world.
So I hope that it'll inspire them to maybe want
to come to an orchestra concert or maybe go and
listen to recordings of orchestras in addition to the band,
the wonderful band literature that is out there.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah, absolutely. And last thing about me, because this isn't
about me. This is about South East Texas. But when
I was in high school and I was playing saxophone,
the orchestra director and the band director would switch right
and they would on a song, so they would put
on a performance and then they would switch.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
So then we would get training.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
From the orchestra director and it was just so cool
to see the different approaches and it really kind of
round gave me a more of a round kind of
outlook on orchestra versus band, because you're right, it's totally different.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
So it is different.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
It is different, but the band, you know a lot
of the great orchestral music that I know, the Flavor Mouse, Overture,
La Forts and Del Destino, the fourth movement of Tchaikowsky's
Fourth Symphony. The first time I heard those were in band.
There were banded transcriptions, and then I heard them. I

(08:12):
was like, oh, this is this is an orchestra piece.
And I went to the library and at that time
they had records, these big round disc things, and I'd
get and listen to it because it peaked my interest.
So you know, I think everyone on that stage in
the orchestra had probably had a similar experience as they were.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Growing up, absolutely for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
So I'm super excited just to hear that and all
the things that you're doing for the youth, and I
think that's important and I think that is something to broadcast,
even though it's in the DNA, which is important.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
You know, it's just neat to.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Hear that in our community and to know the reach
of the symphony there. So kind of transitioning a little bit,
what are we looking at for the second half of
the season as far as adult performances go in days
like that.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
So our first public performance is an evening of Love Stories.
That'll be February eighth at the Julie Rogers Theater and
we'll be having the music of George Gershwin, the Cuban
Overture and then West Side Story by Lynd Bernstein. In
the first half, those are classical classical pieces. In the
second half, we have an amazing singer, Meghan Stapleton, who

(09:24):
has relatives in our committee. She lives in Houston, but
she has relative our community, and she'll be singing gershwin
favorite Someone to watch over Me. The Man I Love
is wonderful and just. It'll take you down memory lane.
And this is a good kind of pre Valentine's Day concert.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
And then March.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Fifteenth, we have our Soul Full Pops Concert R and
B Motown Funk Disco and beyond that's a wonderful with
Gavin Hope, he's the main singer. He has his backup singers.
But again it shows the diversity of what this orchestra
can do for the community and the reason we're able

(10:02):
to do such diverse program. Because the next concert after
that is in April beak of this night's symphony one
all the greatest masterpieces. Very hard to play with choir,
vocal soloists and incredible orchestra.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Very hard piece to.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Play, but it shows the range of what this orchestra
is able to do because we have great musicians and
we have a community that supports.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
The arts and supports the Orchestram.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
We're so proud of seventy two years. But we would
not be here without people like yourself, without people like
the mayor who and the people in the businesses that
support this wonderful Orchestram. So we want people to come
out check us out. We've got some great things on
the horizon for the Orchestram.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
So with all that being such, Chelsea, so maybe there's
some first time listeners. Maybe there's folks that this is
the year right twenty twenty five. They want to get
into arts, They want to be out there a little
bit more. They know all these great resources and performers
here in town. Where can people go to buy tickets?
So if you're see to schedule all that.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
So they can go to sst dot org and get
tickets online, or they can call it eight nine two
to for zero nine eight nine two two two four
seven and Debbie will get you straightened out. We have
a wonderful haul and I travel around to a lot
of orchestras that I work with, a lot of works
around the country. We are so blessed here because we

(11:20):
can rehearse and do our concerts in the same space.
There are a lot of orchestras they got to rehearse
in one place and perform in another place. We get
to do it all in the same place in a
wonderful Julie Rogers Theater. So people come on out. Sist
dot organ eight nine two two two five to seven.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Perfect and the Julia is just such a great venue.
And you're hitting the nail on the head. When I
was in a band and we had to travel and
we had to set up and tear down, I mean,
that's less time focused on learning the skills and play
and that's more time breaking down, tearing down all that.
So Southeast Texas, get out there check out the Symphony Chelsea.
Thank you so much, You're the best. Can't wait till

(11:57):
next time. Thanks buddy, Thanks Welcome back to the Royal
West Show. I'm your host, Zach Styles. We've had a
lot of fun so far today and we're gonna keep
it rolling with the one and only Jennifer Birch.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Jennifer, welcome to the show.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
I know you've got a lot to talk about today,
just in regards to your business, but also how y'all
are involved in Southeast Texas with Samaritan Counseling Center.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Jennifer, welcome to the show.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Talk to me a little bit about tell the people
who you are and what you do, and let's get rolling.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
All right.

Speaker 6 (12:31):
Well, thank you so much Zach for having me. It's
a pleasure to be here to represent the Samaritan Kelsey
Center but also give you an opportunity to tell you
a little bit about us. So again, my name is
Jennifer Birch. My husband and I own Texas and Rosemary
House Assisted Living. So as you can tell, seniors are
our jam. We love, we love elder care, and we
love taking care of our seniors in our community. And

(12:53):
one of the things that come with hospice and aging
in place is mental health. The caregivers keeping them healthy,
keep them thriving as well while they're caring for their
loved ones, and mental health has always been a big
deal to us here as an agency and also us
personally and professionally. And so last year, Chris and I

(13:14):
had the opportunity and the honor to be a one
of the celebrity.

Speaker 7 (13:18):
Cuple I guess you could say. And it was a
lot of fun.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
And my husband is very introverted, so to put him
on stage and all of these questions was definitely out
of his comfort zone. And we won. We had we
had a great, uh supporting community behind us, and they
voted and donated and somehow we pulled it out at
the last minute. And apparently when you win So New Game,

(13:46):
you get honored to be the MC's for the next year.
And so that's why I'm here, and I'm so glad
that you guys asked, because we're very lucky here in
Southeast Texas to have the Samaritan Counseling Center as an
organization that provides mental health counseling to our community, not

(14:07):
just economically disadvantaged families, but just our entire.

Speaker 7 (14:10):
Community in general.

Speaker 6 (14:12):
And I like to think of it as a really
hidden gym in Southeast Texas. And the Not So Newlywed
Game is one of their biggest fundraisers, and I'm so
excited to be here.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
Talking about it.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Well, thank you again.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
And it's just so neat to see local businesses like yourselves,
you know, Jennifer and Chris, you know, just diving into
you know, our community right and giving back and giving
your time and being vulnerable, being on stage and answering
a bunch of questions about your relationship.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
So thank you for doing that.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
It's people like you in Southeast Texas that really make
it a special community. So if it's okay, tell me so,
tell me a little bit about the not so newlywed
game like the event.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
How it works?

Speaker 1 (14:58):
I mean you're on stage with other I mean I
know you beat Don Dodd and some other folks out there.
How does it work? What are people what can they
expect to see when they come to the event.

Speaker 6 (15:10):
Okay, first of all, not only are we raising money
for the great cause of the Good Samaritan, we are
honoring Jeff and Sherry Brannick, And as many of you
guys know, they are another couple in our community that
is very giving and wanting to succeed. So, first of all,
we are honoring Jeff and Sherry Brannick. We do have
a couples Christy and Don Dodd, and Sandra and Kirri Ericsson.

(15:34):
Excuse me, they are our judges, and so they're going
to be asking We're gonna be asking questions and it's
going to be up to couples to get the most
votes through ticket sales, money being raised on site. There's
a series of questions. Some are a little very you know,
very personable, but everything's for a great cause. It's always

(15:57):
a good time.

Speaker 7 (15:58):
UH.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
And so we've got some really.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
Amazing peoples that are putting them themselves out there this year.
We've got Courtney and Cody Arkeene, Natasha and Colin Garrett, Belinda, Nelvin, George,
Deborah and Chris Sherman and Zena and Daryl Stevens, all
of which they are amazing killers and our community a
south East Texas. So kudos to them for stepping up

(16:22):
to put themselves in front of uh, in front of
our community. So it's February sixth at Invince Center. It
is gonna just be a great time. There's food and drinks,
selling tickets.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
Vote.

Speaker 7 (16:36):
It's done by votes. It's kind of.

Speaker 6 (16:41):
It is really Whoever the couple raises the most money
is round. The winner of the not so Newlywed game,
and it's it's gonna be a fun time. And if
you if you've not been around when they I was
not born when the Newlywed Game was out, but I
was able to kind of go back and look at

(17:01):
you know, see some of them bitch, I guess you
could say, And I'm like, right, so, And as much
as you think you could prepare your spouse for the questions,
no you cannot.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Yeah, well, having been before, it is a excellent night.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
It's so much fun. I mean it's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
I mean, some of the couples that you would think, Okay,
they're gonna win because they're going to know each other
the best, like they will do the worst right, and
you're like, huh, okay, maybe they need some marriage counseling.
But then there's other people that just you would never know,
and they just kill it and they're so in sync
and they do a great job, and the questions get
wild and the judges get wild, and people are I mean,

(17:46):
I know when I.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
Was attending, you know, we were slipping the judges.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
Money, you know, trying to you know, do whatever we
could do to make sure that the couple that we
wanted to win could win. It's really a bunch of
crowd involvement, and uh, you're not going to go and
not be entertained. I mean you were going to be
rolling on the ground laughing. These couples are all people
that you know in our community. They're giving back because

(18:12):
they believe in the Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas
and what they're doing. So you know, folks, you need
to go. You need to check it out. It's February sixth,
it's right around the corner. You're gonna want to go
to scc set dot org to get your tickets by
a table, donate, do whatever you want to do.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
But just be there is all I'm gonna say.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
And you're gonna get to see Jennifer and her husband
Chris mc the event. Uh.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
And then a lot of those folks last year now
that I'm looking at who was involved, So.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Some of those folks like Don Dodd and the Ericson's
they were in it last year.

Speaker 6 (18:51):
Yep, they were, and they were. I mean I think
we were the top three. Actually I think the three
of the three, those three couples raised the most money.
And oh we had a we had all Christy and
don were a lot of fun. We actually were sitting
next to them on this stage, so I can only
imagine what they're going to bring to the judges table.
And yet bring your money because you can slip them.
You can slip them money and past your votes then

(19:15):
and see if you can persuade for your favorite couple.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
So yeah, I mean it's it's a great time. And
this is the seventh annual, so lots of years to
get it kind of honed in, and every year that
I've gone, it just seems like it's bigger and better.
And so folks, you're gonna want to get your tickets, uh,
you know, to be involved there because Smartan Counseling Center
is a local uh you know, community charity here that

(19:41):
helps with mental health. They'll do free screenings and Jennifer,
you spoke to it a little bit.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
You know, being in.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
That industry, you know how important it is to be
providing the mental health, the wellness programs, professional development and
things like that.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
And they're doing that right here and our backyard.

Speaker 6 (20:01):
Yes, I have an amazing clinical team and administrative team.

Speaker 7 (20:05):
They are really pillars in our community.

Speaker 6 (20:07):
And so they're really such a hidden gym and just
to be able to bring away about they what they
do and what they offer to our community. I'm just
honored just to be be part of it and to
be able to give my time and to do that
and to do have that community. But they really offer
so much uh to our community for mental health and
it's very much needed, not just from the care adult side,

(20:30):
but also from the juvenile side.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
And it's to be able to.

Speaker 6 (20:34):
Have that, it's amazing that we have.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
Right here in our backyard.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Absolutely, And if you are, you know, curious about the
Samaritan Counseling Center their services, They've got a fantastic website
that outline everything that they do and it's at s
c C s E T dot org. You can also
go there if you want to buy tickets for the
newly not so Newlywed game. Those are still for sale.

(20:59):
You can still try and get a table. They're going
to go fast, but you can still get those right now.
Get that February six, and just make sure you give
them a look. Check them out. They're also on social media,
Facebook and Instagram, so check all that out.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Jennifer, any last things for our listeners.

Speaker 6 (21:17):
No, if you're unable to attend even though you're going
to want to attend, you can still also make a
donation and vote for your couple. So there's also those
opportunities available. So please check us out, come out and
see us, and if not, please make it consider making
a donation. It goes for a great lust theer doing
great things here in Southeast Texas.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Absolutely, thank you so much Jennifer or your husband Chris
for just being selfless and giving back to the community.
Just we as a community appreciate it and we look
forward to seeing you on February six on stage.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Thanks again for being on the show. Thank you see it. Bye.
Welcome back to the Roy West Show. I'm your host,
Zach Style on News Talk five sixty.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Man.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
We have had a.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Great show so far and we are going to keep
the energy pumping.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
We got Dancing with the Stars.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Couple number four forus Johnson and Dana Johnson Williams. You know,
we'll just kind of specify there, but welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
So excited to see you guys today.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Man, Welcome Dana, Tell the people, tell the audience a
little bit about who you are.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
And what you do in our fine community.

Speaker 8 (22:33):
Well, I myday job is I'm a realtor. That's what
that's what I do. I'm also president of a nonprofit
that helps single moms finish their college educations. We're called
Single Moms Empowered. That's that's that's my heart. Besides real estate,
that's my heart. But our third guest here today is

(22:55):
the Mirror Ball and that's our ultimate goal with this
is we are a couple number four representing the Junior
League for this year's Dancing with the Stars.

Speaker 7 (23:04):
And I could not be prouder of my partner.

Speaker 9 (23:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Absolutely, And speaking of your partner, Will at the Mirror
Ball talk for themselves here and a little bit. But Forrest,
talk to me a little bit about who you are
and uh.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Just kind of your story man.

Speaker 10 (23:22):
Yeah, I'm Forrest Johnson. My back grind is I'm a
motivational speaker. I have a clothing brands called we Here.
Now we've all been score off for something in our
lives or whatever, so just just kind of staying you know,
focused and you know, saying motivating others and stuff like that.
I'm actually a youth baseball coach volunteer, and I have

(23:46):
a carrier service business. While I transferred different car parts
and stuff like that. And I'm blessed to be a
part of this, you know, wonderful thing we're going to do.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
That's awesome.

Speaker 7 (23:57):
Yeah, coincidence.

Speaker 8 (23:59):
He actually coaches my great grandson in baseball, and we
did not know each other prior to the Junior League
pairing us up. So that was that was kind of
a small world moment.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
USA Prime Baseball, the Red Team. I got you a
little shot out there. I like it.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
That's what I love about our community though, right, I mean,
Beaumont is just such a tight knit community to where
you're both involved individually right in the community, and then
Junior League of Bahmont Dancing with Stars brings you together
and then you have you know, the grandson, you know
connection there, which is just incredible. And that's why I
love Beaumont and I tell people all the time that

(24:41):
beaumat is the greatest place on earth. And this is
one of the reasons why You've got two individuals that
care about our community that are given back through Dancing
with the Stars the Junior League of Boma an amazing event.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Couple number four.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
We're just gonna throw a couple number four out there
many times, you know, subliminal message audience.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
A couple number four, number four. There you go.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
So let's talk about the mirror ball. Let's talk about
the elephant in the room, if you will. So we've
got the mirror ball. Okay, Now, folks, if you don't know,
the reason why they're doing this is to raise as
much money as humanly possible for Junior Lubamat, which gives
to so many different organizations within Southeast Texas and beyond.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
I'll say, because their reach is just so grand.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
But the prize, right is if you win in the
couple that raises the most money, that's to get the
most amount of votes, they get the mirror ball. And
the mirror ball is with a couple number four right now,
which basically, I mean some would just say, you know,
it's just destiny.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Right, Dana.

Speaker 7 (25:43):
I mean, we're claiming it. This is ours to win.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
I love it. I love it. So everybody else is
on notice because I'm literally looking at them right now
with the mirrorball and the folks, it looks good.

Speaker 7 (25:57):
I mean, the three of us together.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Great, it looks great.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
So Forrest, all right, you are obviously an athlete, you've
been an athlete, you coach.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
How is it going? Okay? Are you a natural dancer?
I mean you light on your feet? Are you heavy?
What's it? What's it looked like?

Speaker 10 (26:20):
I mean I'm light on my feet, but it's something
new to me or whatever.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
It's going great.

Speaker 10 (26:24):
You know, we have you know, a great a Carga
for and stuff like that, dance coach or whatever, Xavier
for our rule.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
He's doing a very good job with us and stuff
like that. And we were ready ready.

Speaker 8 (26:36):
He's a great encourage or too. He's a coach on
the dance floor as well. He's like, no, let's do
it again, Let's.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
Not do it again.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Rut it back, run it back.

Speaker 7 (26:44):
We got from the beginning.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
I love it. I love it. That's good. You know that.
That's encouraging.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
So uh And and Dana, I mean I can only
imagine you're you've got to be a great dancer.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
I mean you've got you know.

Speaker 7 (26:59):
I feel like I'm a little older than than I
thought I was. So it's been a minute.

Speaker 8 (27:05):
But yes, like I said, I have a great encourager,
great choreographer.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Great.

Speaker 7 (27:11):
We have a great song. We can't say what it
is yet, but we have a great good classic. Was
it eighties or nineties? You were probably it was the nineties.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
Okay, classic, you could call it a winning song.

Speaker 7 (27:26):
It's a winning song.

Speaker 8 (27:27):
You know the worst. You know all the words to
this song. You will be singing along.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
I love that, I love that and and folks, you know,
just in case you're you know, unfamiliar with Junior Leager
Obama Dancing with the Stars. So this year it's one
of the largest events in the entire year. Right, it's
a premier event. It's incredible. It's put on like a
Broadway show. I mean, the lights, the cameras, the action.
I mean, there's thousands of people there. It's so much fun.

(27:52):
I got to be a part of it last year.
Lee Potter, uh, you know, he tried to win and
you know he just anyways, we won't get into the
weeds that. But it is Friday, March seventh, and you
can go to Junior League Beaumont dot org and you
can purchase your tickets there. But when you purchase your tickets,

(28:13):
Dana Forrest, what do they need to do?

Speaker 7 (28:15):
Couple number four? Specify a couple number four.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
That's right. And you can buy tables like an entire table.
There's different packages, all the things.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
What you're gonna want to do because you buy the tables,
you spend more of the tables, you get the best
seat in the house, then you're gonna want to buy
that in the name of the couple that you're supporting,
which it should be might be right, right, right, So
y'all are starting to see a trend here, right, And
the deal of it is, whoever raises the most money

(28:44):
gets the mirror ball.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
Now there is the Fan Favorite. That is the night
of all of the votes for.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Like basically popularity contests that have nothing to do with money,
they get Fan Favorite, which is also a great award,
not nearly as good as the air ball. Lee Potter
might try to tell you otherwise, but he's just wrong. Anyways,
Junior League Bahmont gets all the proceeds. This is one
of their largest benefits of the year, and they just

(29:11):
do so much in our community.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Just look up Junior League Bomont in your mind will
be blown. So with all that being said, you'll have
the winning song, you'll.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Have the winning routine, and Xavier is your coach, right, gotcha?

Speaker 2 (29:28):
And Xavier's with whoigan I rule?

Speaker 1 (29:32):
So again, you've got dance companies, You've got these people
pouring their hearts and souls into Beaumont into this event.
That's just super cool, Dana as far as well.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
No, not data forrest.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
Okay, So, based on your involvement in other sports and
things like that, is this easier or harder than something
you've ever done?

Speaker 10 (29:52):
It's got to be the most difficult thing I ever done.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (29:57):
Yeah, I gotchness.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Though, you know I love a chalness. So we hitting it,
hit on. That's what it's all about.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Good good, and Dana, what about you is far? I
mean you've done a lot of You've had a lot
of real estate deals. Some of them are amazing and
they always involved the Royal West team mcgild mortgage probably
don't go so well and you have to have crucial conversations. Yeah,
on a scale of one to ten, compared to some
of the other things that you've done, it's just like harder, easier.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
What do you think?

Speaker 7 (30:29):
I will say?

Speaker 8 (30:29):
Walking into the dance studio for our first practice, I
was like a kid starting the first grade at a
brand new school.

Speaker 7 (30:38):
I was so nervous. I was so nervous, But it
didn't take any time. The music started pumping and our choreographer.

Speaker 8 (30:46):
Was showing what showing us what he expected, and we're
running it through over and over because it wasn't right
for the coach yet, so we're let's do it again.

Speaker 7 (30:56):
Let's do it again from the beginning, from the beginning.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
That's good.

Speaker 7 (30:59):
It's gonna be great, It's gonna be great.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
Good.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Well, I am so excited to watch both of you
and to see the performance on March seventh. Get your tickets, folks,
Junior League Beaumont dot org.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
We got about thirty seconds left. Couple number four. What
do you got, Zach.

Speaker 7 (31:19):
When you get your tickets, be sure couple number four.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
That was good, number four. Let's go all right? Awesome.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Well, thank y'all both so much for being on the
Roy West Show. Really appreciate y'all's involvement in the community.

a great show so far. And we are going to
keep it going with Tanya go Up and Paul Birch.
They are with us today with Dancing with the Stars, uh,
the ginormous, amazing fundraiser that the Junior League BAMENT puts

(32:15):
on every single year.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
It's the event of.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
The year and Tanya and Paul have so graciously agreed
to dance this year.

into all the fun things about the event and dancing
and all the craziness.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Tell me a little bit about yourself, Okay.

Speaker 11 (32:47):
I am from Orange, Texas, and uh i am.

Speaker 5 (32:52):
I work for industry.

Speaker 11 (32:54):
I work for Comores, and I'm like an auditor, like
a cost accountant, and and I'm also a swim teacher
in the summer.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
I've done it for over twenty gosh twenty.

Speaker 11 (33:06):
Five years, and I am a member of the board
of the Orange Community Players Theater. We have been trying
to promote our theater and get it reopened. So I
stayed pretty busy. I'm married, and I have a grown
son that's an American hero soldier in the Army. And
then I have two bonus daughters that are beautiful, and

(33:28):
I have three grandkids. So I'm pretty I have a
wonderful husband that puts up with me doing all this stuff.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
So yeah, you stay busy, and thank you for your
son for his service.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
We always wanted to show appreciation to the Beast. Thank you.
It's just so neat that you're so.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
Involved in the community already and then Orange and you're
coming over to be involved in you know, Beaumont, and
so that's just really cool.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
So thank you for that. Paul hell so.

Speaker 7 (33:57):
Well.

Speaker 9 (33:58):
I'm Paul Burch. I'm also City of Orange. I have
a man. I wear many different hats as well. So
I am a salon owner of forty two years, looking
good salon. I am Orange City councilman. I'm Mayor pro Tem.

Speaker 7 (34:13):
I am also.

Speaker 9 (34:13):
President of the Orange Community Theater. So Tany and I
have performed together for many years, not on stage dancing,
but on stage acting and singing. So this is just
gonna be another level for us.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
That that is so cool. I did not this is
true fact audience.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
I didn't know anything about either one of these amazing
individuals before jumping on the call and on.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
The show, So I'm just excited to get to learn.

Speaker 4 (34:42):
I mean, so you're.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Both very involved in Orange community.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
I mean in the Orange community, and I mean y'all
are just gonna basically take what y'all have already been
doing for years, put a little music behind it and just.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Rock and roll in rock and roll.

Speaker 7 (34:55):
Yes, we're gonna try.

Speaker 11 (34:56):
I mean, we've had a couple of rehearsals and we're uh,
you know, we're trying to learn our uh. Our choreographers
a great person, Jill uh from Yes, from Encore, and
she's we all actually have left so much. It's really
gonna be fun. We're enjoying ourselves and hopefully we do
well for the Dance with the Stars Junior Le Southeast Texas.

(35:18):
We're looking forward to it and we're honored that well.
I I was asked to do it. And then uh,
in Orange, if you're a couple from Orange, you have
to uh they let you pick your your partner pretty much,
or you ask someone because because we have to go
travel to Boumont quite often or whatever.

Speaker 5 (35:38):
So I had the I had the honor or.

Speaker 11 (35:41):
I got to ask Paul and he was like, oh,
I don't know, and I would come on and so anyway,
that's kind of how it went down.

Speaker 5 (35:50):
And he is, uh, you know, on the city count
so he has a lot of ties.

Speaker 11 (35:54):
To Orange County, so I thought it might be it
would be good for the Dancing with the Stars and
uh where he could promote them, you know with all
his avenues.

Speaker 5 (36:04):
Yeah, your ins and outs and all the people know.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
That is so cool that both of y'all are so
involved in the community, and Paul being a city councilman,
I mean, your hands are already very full. And then
with the Orange community players, I mean that's even it's
just incredible. You know, the folks in our community in
the Golden Triangle every single year Dancing with the Stars
Junior just taped on some amazing talent and I know

(36:29):
y'all are excited about it.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
What couple number are y'all? Three?

Speaker 5 (36:34):
Number three?

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Three?

Speaker 5 (36:36):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Right, full number three? So March so.

Speaker 5 (36:40):
Y'all vote, vote vote for number three and we need.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
And if you're in Orange County, right and or in
the Orange area, you know these these are your folks,
these are your people.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
You know you can support.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
You need to buy tables. So the way it works, uh,
you know the event, you know, Let's go ahead and
just make sure I have the event date right, So
March seventh, Okay, that's Friday.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
You're gonna want to buy tickets.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
You can go to Junior League of Baumont dot org
and you can click on the link for Dancing with
the Stars of Southeast Texas. Super easy to buy tickets,
very easy to buy tables. If you can't make it,
you can still sponsor the event. You're gonna want to
do that, and you can buy a table or sponsor
the event in couple number threes name folks.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Okay, so that's what you want to do.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
Those dollars, right, every dollar counts as a vote, right,
So you want to win that mirror ball, which the
mirror ball, folks, for those that don't know about Dancing
with the Stars.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
You want to win the mirror ball.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
And the way you win the mirror Ball is whatever
couple raises the most money ticket sales, sponsorships, donations. So
Tanya and Paul couple number three. They're aiming to be
that winner. So they're gonna need your help to do that.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
Yes, please, we're in it to win it.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
Yeah, so you know, tell me a little bit about
y'all's experience so far, Paul, give me a you know,
maybe what are.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
Your thoughts so far?

Speaker 7 (38:11):
Well, I think we're gonna be fine.

Speaker 9 (38:13):
We our choreographer, Jill has been a part of Arch
Community Players for many years. She has been our choreographer
for all kinds of musicals and different shows, so she
knows our talent, so she knows what.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
We can and can't do. I love it.

Speaker 7 (38:28):
We're fortunate to have her, yea.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
So yes, we're excited to do this. We a are.

Speaker 5 (38:33):
We're gonna it's gonna be fun.

Speaker 11 (38:35):
We know some of the people that are also participating
that we've actually done shows them at the Orange Community
Players Theater, so it's kind of cool to see them,
and it's cool to meet new people too.

it's gonna be nice and it's a fancy thing. So

is a fancy event. There's a bunch of people there.
