Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to the Royal West Show. We have a
great show lined up for you today. My name is
Zach Styles. I am the host and we have got
the one and only Josh Davis with Legacy Community Health
V of Development with us today. Welcome to the show. Josh.
How are you doing today? I'm good? Thanks for having me,
Zach good. You know we like to have you on
(00:24):
from time to time. Last time I think you were
on with Dancing with the Stars showing us your moves
at Dancing with the Stars. You did an incredible job.
By the way, great job, Thank you, Thank you. Loving
that trophy, Gonna say, how's that? Do you just like,
do you sleep with it? Do you have it with
you all the time?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
You know, have it positioned so when the sunlight hits
the room in the morning it lights up the room.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
So awesome And congratulations on that man, that's awesome. And
then when you're not dancing the night away you are
making big moves at Legacy Community Health, is there VP
of Development just you know, really involved in this community.
You're involved in everything. It's a privilege to be able
(01:07):
to see you and work with you on the different
boards that we get to serve on. But enough about
all that. Talk to me about Legacy Community Health and
just give us a brief overview of what y'all do
in our community.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
So, Legacy Community Health, we are the largest community health
center in the state of Texas. So what that means
is we're a nonprofit health center. What we do is
we focus on primary healthcare. So in Movement, we offer
adult primary care, pediatrics, of cetrics, kind of coology, behavioral health,
and we have a mail order pharmacy be where we
deliver prescriptions directly to the doorstep. The beauty of all
(01:42):
this is we can see everybody regardless of ability to pay.
So we take most hmost PPOs, Medicare and Medicaid marketplace plans,
and then if someone doesn't have insurance or can't qualify
for our medicaid, we do a siting scale. So at
the end of the day, we don't turn anybody away.
Our doors are open to everyone community for healthcare. Our
(02:02):
focus is driving healthy change in the community and making
health care affordable and accessible.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Wow, that's amazing and I knew that about you, but
every time you say it, it's still amazing to me. Right,
I mean, you don't turn to anybody away.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
No, we are here to our name. We're here for
the community. We're very focused on what the community needs.
And the beauty with legacy is every one of our
locations in different regions looks a little bit different because
we model off of what the needs that community are
and our staff is very passionate about what they do.
We don't know. None of us come here just for
(02:37):
a job. We come here because we're taking care of
our community. We're able to make a difference every day
in the overall health of Southeast Texas.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
That's awesome. We need more. We need more people like
y'all in our community that are just dedicated to making
Southeast Texas better. So that's incredible. Where y'all located, that's
just I'm just curious.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
So Invalmont, we have three locations. We have one on
North Street above the Wellness Center on the fifth floor.
That pediatrics on North eleventh Street, right across from sant
Anne's and next word of Checkers that is our adult
primary care. And then on Stag Drive next to the
Baptist Cancer Center that is our pediatrics, O, G I,
N and behavioral health.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Three locations and that will.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Be a new clinic here in a few years. We
are very early stage of the capital campaign, so we're
excited to expand access to care and add new services
once we get that facility built.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Awesome, where is that going to be?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
You'll have a location yet it's across the street from
our Stag clinic, so it's the old Baptist High Note building.
So we did the demo in that existing building right
before Christmas. So it is a flat lot ready for
a brand new, beautiful facility.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
That's cool. That's exciting to be part of that.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yes, So it's always something new and looking at ways
so we can expand access to take care more of
South East Sexes. So we're making a dent and what
we do, but we want to make an even bigger
dent over the next few years and providing healthcare for
the entire our community.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Wow, that's awesome man, were good. Well, y'all have an
event coming up. What does that look like? What are
y'all doing?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
So every year we go beyond the exam room and
what we do, so we look at ways that we
can impact the overall health of a person, not just
inside the exam room but outside. And part of that
is with kids, so kids go to school, kids see
to have what they then necessary supplies to learn to
be able to focus in the classroom. And we started
(04:41):
brought it back after the pandemic, a back to school
festival that we've gone to the last few years.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
So three years ago we.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Did three hundred back packs, then we jumped into one thousand,
and the last year we did thirteen hundred backpacks. We
made over fifty vendors. We do popcorn, snow cones, free
heret for the kids. bisD is out there doing registration
for the upcoming school year, and overall it's a fun
day for the kids, give them the supplies they need
(05:11):
to walk into school on day one ready to learn.
But it's also connecting our community to resources that we
have because as a nonprofit, we work hand in hand
with a number of other nonprofits. So we want to
connect these families only to the services that we offer
and get them connected with a doctor and that primary
health care and come into a doctor on a regular basis,
(05:32):
not just when you're sick, but also what are these
other resources that we offer in the community. So Southeast
Texas it's rich in resources that we have, but not
everybody knows what's available, so we know what we know,
we don't know what we don't know, and we typically
know it's within a close radius to us. So we
want to connect the community with that and it's been
a great experience. We've been able to grow it every
(05:54):
year thanks to the sponsors that support the event and
so the sponsors really dry of the impact that we
can have and how many backpacks but not for these kids.
And then the volunteers that make the event possible. So
all the haircuts that come out, those barbers and stylost
don'tate their time.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Wow, that's uh, that's just cool. I mean, that's just
neat that y'all had that forethought to do this. I
mean y'all went three years, went from three hundred to thirteen.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
There's a need and it's one of those things that
we look to address the need and just making a
fun day for the kids and the families.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, so the event is.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Selet's say, literacy is a big part of what we do.
So with with healthcare being a focus, literacy plays a
part into your overall health. So boost to literacy rates
are going to increase health outcomes. In our pediatrics, we
have a literacy program that celebrates ten years this year
to where when kids come in for the World visits,
(07:02):
they get part of our Little Reader's program. They get
a prescription to read. That prescription is a book that
is age appropriate based on the reading level, and they
get told by the doctor the importance of reading. They
get prescribed reading time every night and they helpe set
boost these literacy rates. Is going to be the health
outcomes of these kids, and so that literacy program ties
(07:22):
on the back to school of also making sure that
these kids are prepared with what they need to learn
every day at school. They not have to worry about
the stress of not having the pencils to the colors,
the crayon. We want these kids to be prepared so
they can go in and do what they're supposed to
at school and is to be engaged and learned. But
the event is Saturday, July twenty six from ten am
to one pm at Peach MacArthur on Highland Avenue.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Nice is that where it's been in the past several
years of y'all moved around.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
It's been at Peach the last few years, so it's
we had a presence in South Park years ago, right
across the street from Peach and so they've always been a
strong communit partner that we worked with in the school district.
And the layout of the school just it works so well.
The staff's amazing to work with that school. So we're
able to come in, set up and just make it
(08:12):
a day full of fun.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah. Now, is this open to all you know, kids
in Southeast Texas or Okay.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
So anybody in Southeast Texas. So last year we track
where these backpacks go and so last year we had
kids from seventy schools, twenty cities, and nine counties represented
at the event.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Oh smokes, it is for Southeast Texas.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
And it's not just for our patients. It's for the community.
So we obviously invite our patients out, but we might
hire community out to come to the event. And then
if people don't have a medical provider or a medical home,
we're there to offer information about services that we offer
and if they're wanting to get connected into services, getting
an appointment scheduled and getting them to be part of
(09:00):
the legacy and family.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
So I mean it's that's just such a cool way
to get legacy out into the community where through the
kids meeting them where they're at, meeting that need, and
then you know, being able to talk to the adults
of these parents, I mean kids too, you know, talk
to them about their health and things like that. And
so it's just all the way across the board. It's
(09:26):
like a win win win, right, I mean for everybody.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, we focus to reduce barriers to healthcare, and barriers
come in many different facets, whether it's transportation, access, cost.
We focus on all those needs and a lot of
times it's going to meet people where they are. And
so that's why we stay so active in the community,
because we want to meet the community in their neighborhoods
(09:50):
in there, you know, in the schools, and be able
to talk about what we do in the service that
we bring to Southeast Texas. And like I said, anybody
can utilize our services, whether you don't have entrons or
you have entrance.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
We're here for the entire community. Yeah. So, folks, if
you're listening and you haven't been seeing a primary care
physician or you've had some one of those barriers that
Josh mentioned, you know, legacy is there for you utilize
them here in our community. I like what you said
Josh about you know, we don't know what we don't know,
and oftentimes that's simply it right, and it's just and
(10:28):
having you on the show today, it's just cool to
be able to say, hey, folks, Legacy Community Health meet Josh,
meet Legacy Community help utilize these services here in Southeast
Texas and you know, get yourself checked out, you know,
get the health, get your health where it needs to be.
For sure. Absolutely, if people want to learn a little
bit more about, you know, the services you'll provide, where
(10:49):
would where would they go to do that?
Speaker 2 (10:51):
So they can get our website Legacy Communityhealth dot work.
If they want to schedule appointment, they can call four
zero and nine two four two two five two PI.
And then we were also on Facebook, so if they
want to look up our Facebook pages and get information
about services offer, but also the back to school event,
it's Legacy Community Health Central side. Is that Facebook page? Awesome?
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Well, Josh, thank you so much for being on the show.
Thank you for everything that you do in the community.
You're super active with nonprofits, other boards, things like that,
So just really appreciate your involvement and everything you do
in our community and with the Legacy Community Health.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Thank you, appreciate you always having us back on the show.
It's always a great time.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
That's right. Well, folks, we've got more to come on
the show. We've got rock Stand Hilberg and she's gonna
be on, and then we also have Bill Clark Bugspurts
coming up, so y'all stay tuned. We're gonna have a
great show. Josh again, thanks for being on the show.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Thanks to hear.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Welcome back to the show. I'm so excited to continue
this wonderful show on the Royal West Show. Trying to
see how many times I can say show in the
first thirty seconds of this piece. Anyways, We've got the
one and only doctor Bart Foster with Bill Clark Pest
Control with us today. He is an entomologist with Bill
(12:16):
Clark Pest Control and I'm just really excited to have
you on the show. Bart, thank you for being here,
Thank you, thanks for having me so you know, I'm
just gonna go ahead and just come right out of
the gates asking questions if that's okay with you. As
an entomologist at a pest control company, what do you do?
What are some of the cool things that you get
(12:38):
to do? On a daily basis. That really kind of
elevate the services you'all are able to provide. Yeah, I
think being here and is.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Kind of unique to be an anomologist at a midsize
company mid sized company can definitely provide some things that
are helpful. One thing, we can do a lot of
our training in house instead of having to send people
to Houston or somewhere else like that.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
We can do a lot that training for our text.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
So I'm involved in teaching the new technicians how to
perform their job and just you know, heads up on
what to expect as they go out and work. Also
help develop the protocols for what we want to do
to treat homes. And I also do a lot of
reaching out to the public to some presentations of course
opportunities like today, and also when people bring a sample
(13:23):
or have a problem, try to identify what it is
or go out to their home and look at the issue.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
So when figure out what it is. Yeah, nice, So
you wear many hats I do.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
And summertimes really fun. Some days it's just you hang
on and look up it's five o'clock some time.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Speaking of summer, do you have the advice for folks
anything to do to get their homes ready for you know,
the pets that typically kind of creep out during the summer.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
What advice could you give the listeners. Yeah, a couple
of things I would think about. One just general home maintenance,
keeping vegetation down.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
And I'm not a good one. I don't like tweed
eat but you know, keep that grasped out around.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
The hole, just picking up clutter in the pile of bricks, woodpile,
stuff like that creates tarbage, can lead to a lot
of things rodent, snakes, cockroaches. So general maintenance like that.
And if you're concerned about fire ants, it's a really
good time of year to.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Treat for fire ants.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
If you get them knocking down now kind of early season,
you'll have a lot less issues going.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Through the whole summer. Gotcha. Yeah, So question to you,
what do you see most you know, kind of during
the summer. Is it more snakes, is it more mosquitoes?
Is it all the above? Do you what do you
kind of see?
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Really almost everything? Roaches, ants get really active in the summer.
We continue to have rodent issues. Rodents usually peek in
the fall, but continue all year long. We do start
seeing snakes. We can even have bird issues. Raccoons awesome
this time of year, So a lot of stuff can happen.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Yeah, So question whenever you have an issue or things
like that and you go out into the field, what
are some of the things that you see most often
or what are some of the things that y'all have
been able to work through, like kind of during the
summer months. I guess.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Yeah, again goes back to kind of general hall maintenance.
Or she used to a reason why the pest is there.
Sometimes we're kind of our own worst enemy. If you're
talking about mosquitoes. We've got standing water, you know, in
plant pots or dishes or tires or something around the house.
As far as rodents, you know, checking where any type
of utility line runs into the house. Oftentimes there may
(15:34):
be a three inch hole in the brick for a
two inch pipe and so that gap. Same thing goes
around windows and doorways. So those kind of things. You said,
there's reasons why the pest is there. We've created ideal conditions,
but then we've lowed an opening or left an opening
that they come in.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah. Nice, So you mentioned, you know, being that you're
an entomologist, you can hear your own on site training,
and I imagine you're able to y'all are able to
pretty nimble in the marketplace when things change or when
something new comes up because you do have that title
and that ability to do that. From a national perspective,
does that give you a little bit more reach as
far as being able to address issues things like that?
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Yeah, I mean regionally, we don't. We don't cover a
large service area, but we can reach out to resources
well beyond Southeast Texas. I have connections with people I
graduated with Texas and UM and I have people yeah
same here, have people that I know up there and
can reach out to them. Also, I'm connected with other
professionals that have similar roles to what I do with
(16:35):
other companies, and some of them a lot bigger than
Bill clarpest Control, And we can email each other and
ask questions or post a photo and I feel like
I can get some of the best opinions around the
country and about a day just reaching out to that
technical group that I'm part of.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Wow, Yeah, that's awesome. So that just gives you all
the ability to again be a little bit more nimble
when it comes to you know, troubleshooting and figuring out
issues problems. Personal question from my home. Actually, I figure
I might as well take advantage of this and maybe
other people have problems carpenter bees during the summer. Yes,
what do you recommend? I mean, they don't steam necessarily,
(17:13):
they're just annoying, right, And if you're hanging out by
the pool and you've got these carpenter bees and they're
very protective of their whatever they're protecting, you know, what
do you recommend on that? Yeah, so you have the.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Female that makes the hole in the wood, and she
can sting, but she's not aggressive, so you don't often
hear about somebody getting stung unless they stepped on when
are grabbed one. The ones chasing around those are the males,
and they are very territorial and they can't sting, so
as much as they may fly around you and seem intimidating.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
That, there's no way they can do anything to hurt you.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Really, with those dusting, the individual holes will take care
of the bees that are raising now. They well come
back the next season, but you're taking care of the
problem for at least the time period, and that will help.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Yeah, answers my question because I have the one spot
in the outside, and they literally will go there every year,
and I treated it last year and they went away.
But I noticed the other day I was out cleaning
the pool and I was like, oh, they're that son
of the Galleys. You know, it's the same guy. So okay, good, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Painting a surface, if it's wood, painting can help. It
won't completely discourage them. And so that's tough to think
about because I really like rough unfinished wood. It's just
like ideal place for them.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
To nest I got you see, well you've helped me
already on this interview. So folks you know at home
or listening on the radio, you know this is a
Bill Clark here. They can they can get you fixed
up with whatever you need. I guess if people want
to learn a little bit more about your services and
what y'all provide have a monthly contract, where would they
(18:49):
go to find that information?
Speaker 3 (18:51):
We have a website. It's Bill Clark Bulksburts dot com.
Are they welcome to call? It's four oh nine eight
nine eight three two two four. Are a lot of
people just come by our office at twenty nine to
seventy five North Eleventh street, often bringing a bag with
the insect from.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Me to ID. We kind of tease this to try
to stump the entomologist. Oh nice. So there you go, folks.
If you have some weird bug or weird something and
you want to try and you know, trip part up
and you're welcome to do that, just go by their office.
Some people we get. We get most of them, though,
I bet it makes it a little interesting that you
(19:25):
can't get it, and then it can becomes again. There's
just so many insects.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
A lot of times if it's just something random, you know,
we say, well, I'm not sure what it is, but
it's not something that's a threat. And so that's what
we're looking for. Stuff that would hurt you, hurt your home.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Yeah, I got you. So let's talk about two other
pests that kind of we're going to start popping out.
We're going to start seeing, you know, there's termite swarms
and that kind of stuff. Can you talk a little
bit about termite swarms and what that is is.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Yeah, we are really in a peak of termite season.
We have two main species that cause damage here. They
both live under ground and once a year they developed
winged individuals that fly away from the colony and they
try to pair up and start a new colony. So
the silver lining, the good news is termites often become
more visibles this time of year because of that swarming behavior,
(20:15):
and you may find out about a problem you.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Didn't know you had with the two species.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
The one started to start swarming, you see, the late
February of March, so we're already in that time period,
and then about middle of May we'll get the foremost
and termites, which are the ones that swarm at massive
numbers at night that most people are probably very familiar with.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
They've lived in this area a couple of years. Yeah,
they're annoying and they get in your house and all
the old crevices and all the things.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Yeah, so well, and there's a lot of let's dispell
some rumors about them. They don't bite, they don't sting.
They're directly not going to start eating your home. They're
going to die quickly inside. So to rush out and
have us rush out and try to do something about
the swarm, it's going to quit by the time we
get there. So the main thing to do save a
few for identification, vacuum sweep up what's there, and then
(21:03):
do get an inspection because they may have flown to
your home or they may have come from your home,
and that's what we want to look at. I hear
the other extreme people say, well, you don't have to
worry about these they're a different kind of termite. No,
they're the same type that damage your home. It's just
not the ones that do the direct feeding. That is
the colleague that came from or the colleigue they can start.
You need to really be concerned about.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Good Well, I had one of the questions, but we
were at a time. Bart. I so appreciate you being
on the show. Folks Bill Clark their past control. They're amazing.
Check them out on their website. Bart, thank you so
much again for being on the show and just sharing
a little bit of your knowledge. And if y'all have
questions anything like that, feel free to stop by their
(21:46):
office and you can probably talk to doctor Bart yourself.
So thanks again, Bart, I really appreciate you. Thank you.
Welcome back to the Roy West Show host Zach Styles.
We've had a great show so far. We're going to
keep it going. We've got Katie Sally. She is the
(22:07):
new owner or new ownership, new generation for the Mailroom
and welcome to the show, Katie. I think we're having
a little bit of a delay here. Welcome to the show,
New generational ownership for the Mailroom. We're super excited to
(22:28):
have you. Y'all just had your big open house. Talk
to me a little bit about the mailroom and how
excited y'all are.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
Thanks for having me here, Zach, I appreciate it. Yes,
my husband Frank and I are taking over the Mailroom
as the new owners. His family has owned this business
since two thousand and two, so a very long time.
They're ready to pass the torch and we're ready to
take it on and we are really excited about it.
As you said, we just hosted our open house and
(22:56):
rebbitcutting with the Greater Greater bon Want Chamber of Commerce
and it was a.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Jam packed success.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
We were so excited and we're just really excited to
take on all of the different opportunities that are that
the mail Room has to offer. You know, we're a
gift shop, but we're really since inception, we're a shipping
and packaging company and we also have a bulk mel
B two B service line as well where we help
(23:21):
businesses get mass mailings out, whether it's billing or marketing, whatever,
it may be discounted great. So we've got a lot
going on and a lot of fresh ideas to grow
the company and bring on new services and new experiences
for our customers.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
And we're super pumped.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Yeah, and it's just really cool that y'all are taking
this over and y'all have got some new fresh ideas.
I had the privilege of being able to go to
the open house. It's just incredible. I mean, I've been
using the mail room for years from you know, shipping
and packaging needs, and then every time my wife goes
in there, she always picks up something either for herself
(23:58):
or the kids. You know, there's all these little kind
of just so many cool things that you're not going
to see everywhere else. Right in Beaumont. I mean, y'all
get a little bit of everything you really do, and
you'll do a good job of kind of keeping things
fresh and rotating things through. And you know, the attendance
at the open house was just incredible, y'all. It was
(24:18):
It was a great fun time, just a lot of
energy and I personally am just very excited about seeing
you know, what y'all do and things like that. You know,
speaking on that retail side, can you talk a little
bit about some of the things that y'all have, maybe
some things that y'all are looking to add things like that.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Yes, yes, and well, first of all, thank you for
your support of the business.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Thanks to you and your wife, Whitney. We PreTect that.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
But yeah, on the retail side, which I'm super excited
about obviously, but we have a little bit of everything.
As I mentioned, we have you know, kids apparel, women's apparel, kitchen,
home goods, bath and body. We've got a little bit
of everything. We're excited. We're bringing on a home men section.
We've been lacking in the men's department. So we've got
(25:03):
some brands coming to the store that I won't mention,
but they're super exciting and it's men's accessories and things
like that. So we're really going to bulk up that
portion of the business and I'm I'm really excited about that.
That's something that we don't have. One of the few
things that we don't have, but we have a lot
of just a little bit of everything in the retail side.
(25:24):
We're also launching a new website, which I'm super excited
about as well.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
I just feel like I'm excited. I'm just saying that
a lot of exciting.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
But shopthemail Room dot com is going live very soon
and we will be introducing a whole e commerce site
of the mail room. So we will be shipping some
of the merchandise that we carry in the store to
people in Southeast.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
Texas if they, you know, don't want to come into
the store, and then.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
We'll broaden our office our audience hopefully outside of Southeast
Texas as well. So that will complement our our two
locations that we have. We have the location in Beaumont,
which is our kind of headquarters, and then we also
have a shop in Port Arthur, Texas on Twin City.
So this will be a new, a new, a different
experience for our customers. And speaking of our customers, we
(26:14):
have such a loyal base and with the company has
been around for a very long time and our customers
have really stuck through with us, and we're so proud
of that. It's just really strong loyalty that we have
and we couldn't be prouder of that.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
So, yeah, that's all great.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Well, I'm very excited about the mid section. You teased
a little bit yesterday on some of the brands that
may be coming. So I'm very excited about that. And
we'll have to have another show whenever that starts rolling out,
because I want people to know and I want everybody
to start going to the mail room. If you haven't
been before, here's the deal. I'll tell you the one
reason why I started using the mail room. This is
(26:54):
before I even knew that mister Selly owned it and
the family was even involved. I hate shipping things like
I dread it. I can't stand it. I don't want
to do it. I don't ship that often, but when
I do, I don't want to do it right. So
I went one time. Whitney told me she goes go
to the mill or just go and I was like, okay,
I'm going to the Mallory. Don't know what I'm doing.
(27:15):
I walk in it. I didn't even you know they
got retail over here. But I go in and the
lady behind the desk I think she may have been family.
It could have been mister Selly's wife. I don't know,
but I told her. I was like, look, I need
to ship this. It's a valuable thing that I need
to ship. I don't have it packed correctly. I don't
know what to do. I just want it to be gone,
like I need it to go where it needs to go.
(27:35):
Can you help me? And she was like, I got you,
you know, and she like she grabbed a box, she
pulled the stuff, she pulled it all together, she did
it all. She goes. I said, okay, are we good
and she's like, yeah, here's the address, and I paid
for it and rock the rock and roll. She made
it so easy. So I'm telling you, that's why I
started using the mail room.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Thank you so much for that. Our staff is incredible,
I will say that. And whether that happened to be
somebody in the family or not, all of our staff
are like family to us and and we feel like
our customers are like family to us as well, so
they take such good care of them. But yeah, if
you have anything that you want to ship, that's that's
kind of our bread and butter really is the shipping
service aspect of it. And we have this nice little
(28:16):
retail side on the side, which helps, but the shipping
and packaging is really the bulk. It's a lot of
our business and they make it easy. I mean they
you they even gift wrap. We have gift wrapping services.
If you want to send a gift, they will do that.
They will package it up perfectly. You don't have to
worry about it. You could just come here, here's an item.
I need to ship this, and they will completely package
(28:37):
it up, safely, securely, ensured. You know, you can with
all of the tracking that they'll make sure that you have. Yeah,
they make it easy. And that's thank you for sharing
that story, because that's exactly what we want to do.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
And there's been.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
This company has been around much longer than any of
the UPS stores or the FedEx stores. You know, those
weren't even a thing when this when this business was
launched years and years ago. But we've been able to
sustain even though there are those big box shipping companies
all around now. We've been able to sustain because of
our loyal customers and our great staff. I mean, they
(29:11):
just have exceptional customer service there, and we're very.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Proud of that.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Yeah. No, I mean I'm just speaking from the heart.
I mean it's incredible. And then if I needed to
get something for the kids or my wife, I'm going
to pop in there and that too, and now with
the men's section coming, I mean, I'm telling you this
is going to be great. I think it's cool that
y'all are open to having the website and y'all are
going to start, you know, selling you things on the website,
because y'all were already, like you said yesterday when we
were at the open house, you were already shipping things out.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
You know, we have U can'ted X United States Postal Service.
They come to us twice a day, all of them,
like we might as well just give them some packages
that we can you know, ship to our customers that
are far away. So that's that's that's.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Really really fun.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
And for customers that are local, we are launching a
series of events each month that will start taking place.
Speaker 5 (30:00):
Is a big trend right now.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
We're hosting a Mother's Day Majong event on May the second.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
Valentino's florist is right next door.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
We're going to hopefully collaborate with him on some floral making.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
We're going to do a series of different.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Events throughout the summertime, especially so we want our local
customers to come in and get an experience there at
the store and just you know, just solidify our relationships
there with our customers and have some fun at the
same time.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Yeah, that's awesome. And the other cool thing, I mean
it's super kid friendly. I mean all four of my
kids were there yesterday, right, having stuff. Then I get
home and we would kind of My wife is at
church the whole thing. I get home and the kids
all come in and Whitney had bought all of them
like some trincky Like one kid got a kite, the
other kid got some kind of putty, you know, like
I mean like that, and they were like so excited.
(30:49):
They're like, yeah, what I got today? And well, yeah,
that's awesome.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Cool, So like, let's go to all the Riven cuttings.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Yeah exactly. Like is that what you what you do
when you go to meetings down? Is that what you
you always do? Because I'm want to start going with
you to those meetings. No, no, no, no, that was
a fun meeting. That wasn't even a meeting, that was
an event. Well, hey, we got about thirty seconds left
or so, Katie, just go ahead, you know, phone numbers,
locations things like that.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Yes, come visit us.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
We are Our Beaumont location is at one forty eight
Dollan Road. You can visit us now on our website,
Flagship Mailroom dot org. But know that shopthemeilroom dot com
is coming very soon. We also have our location in
Port Arthur. It's on Twin City Highway. Everybody knows where
HB is in Port Arthur. It's right there in that
shopping center. And that store is a little bit smaller,
(31:42):
but still has all of the good stuff and all
of the good service and wonderful customer service.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
So visit us at either one.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Of our locations and soon on Shopthemailroom dot com.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Perfect Katie, thank you so much for being on the show.
We always appreciate you. Thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
Thank you, Zach.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Thanks all right, welcome back to the Roy West Show.
I'm your host, Zach Stiles. We are having a great
show today and our final guest for the day is
going to be the one and only Roxanne Acosta Hellbern.
She is the Jefferson County Clerk. Roxanne, welcome to the show.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Thank you so much, appreciate it, Zach, appreciate the invitation
to join y'all today and look forward to our visit
and sharing some information.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Fantastic Roxanne. I know this is a busy time of
year for you with this election just right around the corner. Roxanne,
tell me a little bit about kind of what your
duties are and which your team's been working on.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
Well, just getting ready for this municipal election. You know,
Bid and the city have contracted with our office to
help them with this upcoming election and just getting ready
for it. As everybody knows, it's a pretty hopping Everybody said, hey,
the presidential was going to be sparking, but this one
(33:05):
seems to be the one apparently.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
Yeah, wow, well that's that's really neat and we're excited
to kind of hear about what y'all do so specifically,
you know, when you were contracted to work these elections
and help out, what are some of the things that
y'all are doing and kind of paying attention to.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
Well, I mean, like anything else, you know, nationally, making
sure there aren't any concerns with the process. Every election
there seems to, you know, highlight a new concern. We
make sure to stay on top of that and eliminate
avoid any of that and just work to improve our process.
(33:48):
We have great, great teams from both the Democrat and
Republican Party and so we just keep enforcing our vision,
our mission to serve our community and make sure that
everyone is registered to vote, who wants to participate, and
they're eligible, and everything is in check, and our locations
are ready, everything is in you know, in top shape,
(34:14):
so that we can get the election rolling, get the
numbers out quickly.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
That's right, And y'all do such a good job getting
those numbers out and collecting the data. At the end
of every.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
Day.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Now early voting and all that fun stuff, y'all will
be present and have teams out on the ground and
that's going to start on April twenty second. Will you
be can do you have a list of some of
the places that people can kind of go to vote
for those early voting places.
Speaker 6 (34:50):
Yeah, So you know, every election is a little different.
We're only running the Beaumont election this round. Every it
seems like every municipality is running their own. Port Arthur
Medcal He's running their own So we have four locations
early voting. Jefferson Elections dot com has all the details,
but your main hotspots Rogers of course, John John, Paul Davis,
(35:12):
THEO Johns and of course the last one I'm gonna
blur on my brain right now. Well, the courthouse, my
place has to be the main house. So those four
spots and election day we'll have ten ten locations, so
you know, people have plenty of plenty of places to
stop by and you know take a pic.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Awesome, very good. Yeah, and we you know, y'all do
such a good job of making it easy, uh and
getting people in and get people out. Quick question, if
machines go down things like that, does that fall under
your purview or is that with the city? How does
that work.
Speaker 6 (35:51):
If I'm sorry to repeat the question.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Like if machines because you know everything, y'all have a
lot of machines that are there and at the lord cations.
If those if those have issues things like that, is
that yours team that kind of takes care of that
and you know gets okay, got you. So that's a
pretty big.
Speaker 6 (36:12):
Yeah, it's you know, it's I'm managing the election, so
it's it's going to be my responsibility. Sorry about that noise.
I'm not sure what's coming from, but it is my
responsibility to take care of that. So we have you know,
we have direct oversight over all of that process. So
(36:33):
it's you know, we're we're in charge of it, gotcha.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Yeah, and I had the unique opportunity to work one
of the elections. Uh, And it's really neat to see
your team kind of in action and come together. You know,
you're always kind of moving around to all the different sites,
checking making sure people don't need things. It really is impressive. Folks.
(36:58):
If you've never of all in tiered or you know,
helped with an election before, I highly recommend it. You
get to see a whole other perspective of how the
operation works and how Roxanne's team really has everything locked down.
So thank you for all that you do there. Roxanne, Well, hey.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
You're welcome.
Speaker 6 (37:19):
It's it's a lot of work, a lot of commitment
from our community. And again, you know, we have a
very very dedicated group of people. You know, we want
to make it very very easy for everyone to show
up and vote. Bring your I D. There's a lot
of confusion, you know, there's a lot of voices. Texas
(37:41):
is an ID state. Make it simple for yourself, Make
it simple for the workers. They work a lot of
hours in preparation for this. Bring your ID. Make it
real easy for everybody and yourself. And again, you know,
the community can help us post it online. Let us
know that, you know, the locations are busy, communicate with
(38:04):
each other and let's make this as easy and amicable
as possible for you know, to help help each other out.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Yeah, that's a great point you bring up rock sayn
you know, just folks sharing you know, wait times, things
like that, maybe encouraging folks to go to other voting
locations that maybe don't have a bottleneck for whatever reason.
You know, there's a lot of people that get funneled
in and out of these locations. That's a great point
with the ID too, because I know that your team
(38:35):
wants to just make it smooth, easy, get people in
and get people out. If people have questions, you know,
day of who should they speak to at the at
the site or what is your recommendation there?
Speaker 6 (38:46):
So you know, as for a lead, those are the
individuals that are the most experienced on site. You definitely
want to you know, go to that individual They can
help any concerns that you have. So you know, go
to those individuals and have them help you out resolve
(39:11):
any concerns. They go directly to us, and so there's
you know, we we get all that taken care of
pretty quickly, so we you know, we don't want to
have anybody inconvenience have any unnecessary delays through any of this,
so you know we're there to help.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Awesome. Well, folks, that's about all the time we had
with Rock Sane. Early voting starts April twenty second, and
election day is May third. Folks, get out early vote,
do yourself favor, grab your ID and maybe go to
a location you haven't been to before just to kind
of check it out and make sure to you know,
give Roxanne's team high fives and all the things. Rock
(39:52):
Sanny last things.
Speaker 6 (39:54):
No, thank you so much for this time. And I'm
driving through this crazy traffic, so I apologize for the
you know, the stops and the you know interruptions. But
we're ready. We look forward to seeing everybody, and again,
be gracious with our workers. They're ready to help. They
put a lot of time and effort and we're excited
to see everybody to you know, share their voice.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
So thank you, Pert, Thanks Roxanne, and be safe and
we have more coming on the roy West Show.
Speaker 7 (40:20):
Thanks again, Roxanne, take care, bye bye, hey there, welcome
back to the Royal West Show. It's time for a
two minute wrap up.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
We kicked the show off with Josh Davis with the
Legacy Community Health talking about kind of what they do
in our community, but also the back to School Festival
July twenty sixth, twenty twenty five at Peach MacArthur School,
open to all kids. They give out backpacks thirteen hundred
last year, which is incredible, So check out Legacy Community
(40:52):
Health again. Back to School Festival Saturday, July twenty six.
Then we got to talk to doctor Bart Foster with
Bill Clark Pest Control about all the creepy crawley pets
that are going to be out this summer and what
you can do to combat those. You know, give Bill
Clark call today if you have any questions, or go
by their office if you have some wild bug that
(41:13):
you don't know what it is, They're happy to take
a look. Then we got to talk with Katie Sally
with the mail Room. They had a big open house
last week. They're open for business. Their men's section is coming.
They've already got great women's and children's section and if
you need to ship a package, that's your go to spot.
We finished the show with Roxanne Hellberg. We got to
(41:35):
talk to her about the upcoming election. Early voting starts
April twenty second, and then the May third is the
actual general election. Got to learn a little bit about
what she does and what her team does to ensure
that we have an incredible election process. She is the
