Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to the Royal West Show. I'm your host, Zach Styles.
We have a great show for you this amazing Sunday.
You know, school is out, so we've got a lot
of fun things to talk about as far as events
coming up, things like that. But wanted to start off
the show talking about, you know, just what's some things

(00:22):
that we can do this summer to make sure that
our pools are safe, that our kids are safe, and
that you know, the parties are safe, all the things.
I know that I own a pool and I am
probably not doing all the things that I need to
be doing. But we have Megan Pounders. She's the owner
of Infant Swim in Beaumont, here with us today to
talk about pool safety, swimming safety, all the things safety

(00:45):
related to pools. Megan, welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Hey, thanks for having me this morning.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Megan. We're super excited. It's summer. The weather's been great,
it's been hot, but hey, that's when you get in
the pool. Megan, talk a little bit just about let's
just start with kind of what you do and your
business and then we'll jump into pool safety. Sure.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Absolutely so.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
My swimming program here in Beaumont is called Infant Swimming
Resource and I am accredited through ISR, who is based
out of Florida, and I prefer I'm sorry, I provide
survival swim lessons to children as young as six months
old and roughly to about six years that there is
no hard end date for that. So if you have

(01:29):
some older kids who weren't successful with other type of
swim lessons, you could still qualify for ISR type swim lessons.
And we really have our focus on long term survival
in the water. So we teach the children that if
they were to find themselves in water without an adult,
what they can do to survive in the meantime. So

(01:50):
for the young ones, the little babies that are six
months old and sitting up on their own, they learned
the different ways of falling into a pool, and they
learn how to do a roll back and a float
and then you will find them floating, getting air, getting rest,
waiting for an adult to pick them up, to realize
they're in the water and to help them. And then

(02:12):
as they those babies become more toddlers and they get
some cognitive leaps and they get some physical growth, then
we shift our focus to kicking. So then they learn
how to do a short swim in the water with
then roll back and floating so that they always can
try to swim to get themselves out of the pool,
and if they can't make it to the wall or

(02:32):
to the steps, they still know where that air insecurity
is by means of a float.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Wow. And so kids are learning some of this as
young as six months, and you know, as parents, that's
huge because all of a sudden, you know, say they
do want to go to a swim party, or say
that you're just hanging out with friends who have a pool,
maybe that pool doesn't have a fence around it, or
some of the other things that we're going to talk
about later in this interview. You know, just give you

(03:00):
that peace of mind that your kiddo is going to
be able to survive. So that's awesome. Now do you
I know, you're booked for this summer, So people, if
you're wondering, she's booked, she stays booked, but she will
also be able to maybe take some new kiddos on
next summer. Things like that. Megan, where can people go

(03:21):
to learn about your business and learn about ISR?

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Yeah, So for me specifically, if you head to my website.
It's infantswimbaumont dot com. You can click on you can
click under the sign up option and it'll basically just
ask for like your contact information, and then I send
you a pretty thorough email that just breaks down how
ISR is structured, what my pricing, what my schedule is

(03:46):
for the year, and then there's also a link to
join my weight list. So anybody who's just hearing about
ISR for the first time, head over to the website,
reach out to me, let me get your contact information,
because you can always join my weight list, and people
may drop out, people may have to postpone, you know,
they might have planned a vacation and have to switch

(04:06):
lessons around. But also it's just a good way for
you to keep in touch with all the water safety
tips that I send out and just kind of keep
things on mind. And if you can't get into me,
you still want to try to find somebody that offers
a good, high quality swim lessons, and that looks like
teaching children to use their bodies in the water, So

(04:30):
we don't really want to have a swim lesson that
is encouraging children using any sort of floatation device, because
if that device is not there, the children are not
going to know what to do. So you want to
look for something in somebody's program that just teaches them
how to use arms, how to kick, how to find air.
So when I say high quality swim lessons, we're looking

(04:52):
almost for less is more. We want less distractions, less crutches,
and just really focused on having the child understand that
their body is responsible for an action when in the water.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, because we were talking a little bit before the show,
a lot of times the kiddos don't have that cognitive
you know, ability to understand that this floating device or
this jumper, puddle jumper or whatever it is, you know,
that's that is what's keeping me up. They don't have
that ability to understand that. So like just brief story,

(05:29):
I mean, at Might we had a party last year.
We had a lifeguard on duty, and you know, kids
just walked right into the pool and went under and
I jumped in and grabbed the kid and I asked
the kid, you know, how to swim, and he didn't
really know how to swim, right, But like you said,
you get you know, you bet that that person or
that kid probably was used to having a floater or
some type of device and just didn't have the ability

(05:53):
to make that you know, sense of that.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah, and you hear that term a lot in the
drowning prevention world of a false sense of security. So
swimming with life jackets and peddle jumpers just give the
children muscle memory to the drowning position. The droning position
is where our head is just barely above the water.
It almost looks like a form of doggy paddling, and

(06:18):
our body under the water is very vertical, and the
kid is likely just spinning in a circle. And they're
spinning in a circle, right, just mouth and nose barely
above the water for several seconds until they just cannot
sustain that posture, and then you know, unfortunately they sink
and become a droning victim. So it just rebuilds inappropriate

(06:40):
muscle memory to the wrong postures, and it gives them
the false sense of security that oh, every time I
jump in or every time I'm in the water, I
can do all this stuff by myself, because the device
just brings us back up for air, gets my face
above the water, and we're just going vertical vertical, you know,
just kind of like a bowie out there, and then

(07:01):
when that device is not on, they the children just
do not understand that it is actually the device not
then that is able to sustain head above the water
and they can't.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
They can't sustain it.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, they don't have that ability yet. As far as
pool owners and things that, you know, pool owner owners
need to be paying attention to you to have you know,
if you have kids or you're going to have kids around,
even friends have kids coming over, what do you recommend
as far as prevented it.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah, So there are five layers of security that every
pool owner should be aware about, but also everybody with
a child should be aware about. The first is effective supervision.
That can look like a lot of different things.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Right.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
It can be a hired lifeguard, it could be someone
we at ISR. We like to call them water watchers. Okay,
and if you are really serious about it, there's like
something that each adult will pass off to each other,
almost like a little lane. You'ard like a little tag, right,
and when you have the tag, get the party, you're
responsible for ten minutes of watching the waters, no phones,

(08:07):
no radio, no conversation. You are actually acting in place
of that paid lifeguard. So you know, that can be
one of two things. You can hire a lifeguard or
you can have your adults at the party being dedicated
in shifts to being a water watcher. Then someone needs
to know CPR. The third is that all the perimeter
doors of the house should have an audible alarm so

(08:30):
that if we're gathered and people are going in and out,
especially children, right that there's a there's an audio signal
that is like okay, hold on, the pool gate is open,
the back door is open. You know, all eyes hands up,
look for the children. And then pool fences we really

(08:51):
the best, and I wish I had a picture of
my own setup, but a fence protecting the pool in
any way, shape or form is the ultimate, you know
protection because that's going to come with the gate is
going to come with a lock, and we're talking of course,
like a four sided fence with a self locking gate.
And then the fifth is to have survival swim lessons.

(09:12):
So we're talking multiple layers of protection in line to
where the last resort is that the child then has
to know what to do in case all of those
other layers have failed.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Yeah, and you know, the fence is important. I mean
Every single aspect of this is important. It's not just
you do one and you're good, right, I mean, because
like you just said, having these different layers ensures that
hopefully you never get to that fifth you know layer,
to where they're actually having to be in the water
and having to be floating and doing those things. You know,

(09:48):
it's just one of those things that we need to
be paying attention to as we move into the summer.
We need to be paying attention to it year round.
I mean, the pool's always there. In fact, you know,
it may be even more important when it's in December
and it's cold and things like that, because you're not
thinking about the pool, right. So to have these things,
you know in place, Megan, if people have questions, you

(10:09):
know specifically maybe they don't have kids, maybe there's a
pool owner, can they still sign up for your newsletter
and things like that or whatever you put out?

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah, absolutely cool, thank you the website, And just a
little bit of why the five layers are so important,
with of course, like the first being effective supervision, It
is that most droning victims drowned in a situation where
the adults were not prepared to swim, you know, it's

(10:39):
not happening when everybody is vigilant in the pool. I mean,
of course, yes, it does happen, but we're talking like
statistical speaking. It happens when mom and dad got out
of the pool and we thought swim time was over,
or it's winter and dad's cleaning the pool and no
one is thinking about swimming, but the child is. You know,

(11:00):
different things like that. And there's also something called placement
of blame, where if you think dad is watching the children,
and dad thinks moms watching the children, where's the placement
of blame. If everyone thinks someone else is watching the
kids swimming, then nobody is watching the kids swimming. So

(11:21):
the biggest thing that we can recommend, honestly, lifeguards are
so inexpensive for the overall scheme of having a party.
If there's water involved, it's like that should be the
you know, the first thing you do is set the
date for your party. The second thing should be secure
your lifeguard. If you know that people are going to
be around.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Yeah, well, Megan, that takes up all our time. It
goes fast. Thank you so much for being on the show.
Infantswim Beaumont dot com or dot org dot com perfect.
If you have questions, reach out to Megan. She is
available here locally to answer all your swimming questions. Thanks Megan,
appreciate you being on the show.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Welcome back to the Royal West Show. I'm your host,
Zach Styles. We just got loads of information about pool
safety for this summer and now we're going to talk
about what goes in the pool, and that is water
and American air systems. And you may be thinking to yourself,
how does American air systems of water go together? Well,
guess what. I'm not going to tell you, Lee Potter

(12:23):
and Josh Rover going to tell you because I don't
actually know at this point. But that's what this show
is all about. Funny surprises. Lea take it away, brother man.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
It's like peanut butter and jelly. That's what I'm talking
about right now. Hey, listen, I can't wait to see
what the stuff was telling on the pool safety. That
sounds cool, But hey, everybody, I'm Lee Potter with American
Air Systems and we are your plumbing specialists.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
We've got that going on right now.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
And being that we do that, we wanted to take
this particular opportunity to tell you about a fantastic product
we have called the Halo Water Filtration and Conditioning System them,
and it is a filter that is going to take
out all of the contaminants that are in our water,
some of the good contaminants and some of the bad contaminants.
And we'll get into that in a little bit, because

(13:11):
you've got to have you got to treat the water.
You can't just let raw water go because we'd all
be sick. But what we're trying to do is is
we're trying to improve the health, improve the life of
your home and your people and everybody in it and
everything that water touches and all of that good stuff.
And to help me do it, man, I've got.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Our R and P here.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
His name is Josh Rome, and he's going to actually
tell you a little bit of the crazy stuff of
what this thing does.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
Well, what this system does is takes out the bad
stuff out of your water and leaves the good.

Speaker 7 (13:44):
Right.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
People are paying in the ballpark of about one hundred
and twenty two dollars a month for bottled water, correct, right,
So we're offering a system that is going to take
out all the bad, leave the good, and it's actually
better quality water than what they're buying. So they can
go to every tap in their house and have better

(14:07):
than bottle water quality water to drink, and they don't
have to worry about you know, contaminants or all that
bad stuff. And they're getting the good stuff that they
should have because you know, they're it's leaving the good
stuff in their form nice.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
So you're telling me most people spend on average one
hundred and twenty bucks a month on bottled water, and
I could, for a nomenal fee, have that kind of
water coming out of my fossel.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Yeah, here's the thing, man, My friend is okay, so
funny things on how this goes. One hundred years from now,
they're going to be talking about how much microplastics that
we're dealing with in our body. Because of what's going on,
we're giving you the opportunity. Water touches everything in your home.
We intercept the water coming into the home, we're filtering it,

(14:57):
we're conditioning it. Your water, your water heater is gonna
be better protected, your dishwasher is gonna work better.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
Your washing machine's gonna work better.

Speaker 6 (15:12):
Your hair is gonna be shinier because you're not having
to have all that chlorine in your water, your hair
is gonna look better like it's gonna so you're gonna
look at your skin be healthier because you know, the
whole motto is, you can buy a filtration system, or
you can be a filtration system. You can get that
chlorine out of the water to begin with, or you

(15:33):
can leave it in there and your skin then becomes
the filters. So it's it's just a matter of we're
we're trying to offer something that is.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
Beneficial for the consumer.

Speaker 6 (15:47):
Right, It's not just Lee and Josh out here trying
to make money. We're actually trying to help you live
a better life, right and through that water quality. If
there's so much worry that we have going on right now,
right and if you don't have to worry about going
to your tab and wondering what's going to be underwater,

(16:09):
it's just one less thing.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
Yeah, Yes, I couldn't have said it better. He's spot on.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Yeah, well, roy West may or Roy West. You know,
he's doing a lot of things for our infrastructure and
things like that, and they're spending a bunch of money
on water filtration and all that. But let's be honest.
I mean, you can't get this kind of quality at
the mass quantities that we're having to treat the water
and things like that in Beaumont. Right, So if water

(16:35):
it should be a concern of yours because you're drinking
it and putting yourself in it every day. You know,
if that if we could do something about it, if
you could do something about it, I mean, why wouldn't
you do something about it, especially if you're already spending
that money each month, right right?

Speaker 4 (16:48):
And so also just and again, this is not a
knock on Beaumont water because we've got great water here.
But you've got to remember they have to treat the
water to make sure that it's protected, and chlorine is
a is one of the ways that they disinfect the water.
And so what we're doing is is we're taking out
all of those chemicals that they're using to treat the water,

(17:11):
filtering all of that out, plus the sediments and.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
The irons and all the other things of that nature.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
And that way you can go to your tap of water,
open that thing up, and you get bottle quality water
right there. And like I said, it's not a knock.
I mean, we've got some great water systems here in
this area. We're just stepping it up and making that
to go healthy. And one of the other things that

(17:39):
you'll hear or you're gonna hear more is a lot
of your cancer doctors are telling people to drink high alkaline,
clean filtered water. This is what it is now, it
may not, it's it's spot on, man, this thing. Let
me put it to you this way. We have installed

(18:00):
it here in our shop, one of the devices we have. Also,
I've also had it installed at my house. I am
going to protect and do what I'm doing, and know
that I stand behind what we're doing.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
So get it big or not. Here we go. I'm
telling you, I notice a difference day one.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Wow, and you look better. I mean, I don't know
if you know you look better, but you've got to
Your skin looks healthier, your hair, I mean I think
I see some new growth there too, So that's exciting.
So way to go there, lead. So there you have it, folks.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Well hang on a second, if I lay over here,
I'll get a whole bunch of new growth comingy.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
So le uh, you mentioned you have two different types
of systems, you know, where can people learn about this?
I mean, this is not something that I know anything about. Right, Well,
you can go to.

Speaker 6 (18:51):
Our website Ameyorair dot com am R A M E
r R dot com and we have a whole page
that you can click on to tell you all the
information you want to know about it. But not only
are you looking for quality water for yourself, but this
is actually going to help protect the fixtures in your home,

(19:11):
right because more and more, all these plumbing products are
going away from the brasses and the metals and these
these sort of things, and then they got a lot
of rubber in them, right, and water, whether we'd like
to omit it or not, it's corrosive. So this system
not only helps protect your body, but it also helps
protect the fixtures inside the biggest investment investment you make

(19:35):
in your house, right, So if you get it, you're
spending less money on plumbing repairs. You're spending less money
to have that plumber come out. But you know it,
these are halo saves you money, right. It's it's gonna
save you on that bottle. Where is gonna help save
you on those repairs. It's it's really it's a home

(20:01):
run system, it really is. And you have to you
have to experience it to really believe it.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
I tell you what the hardest part that you're gonna
get away from, and this is I see this already.
We have the Halo system at our home, and we
still have the habit of going and picking up a
bottle of water out of our refrigerator.

Speaker 5 (20:20):
We're used to doing that.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
And I literally turn to them and I go, hey,
just get a glass and take it straight out of
the deal and they're like, oh, yeah, God, I forgot
about that. So it's one of those things that you're
just gonna have to learn.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
You kind of learn as you go.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
But he's spot on, man, I tell you, it's the
way that these things work. It really really, I'm telling you,
I think it's gonna become a really big thing here.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Right nice. So if somebody wants to experience it, because
you said, you know, you got to experience it, is there.
And I'm just throwing this out there, and you just
throw it right back if it's not even a thing.
But if somebody wanted to come by your office and
meet with you, visit me with you, or like even
just taste the water, you know, I mean comes, I'm
just saying.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
Come on, we ain't scared. We ain't scared.

Speaker 4 (21:09):
Come on it and you can also I would tell
you the best way to do it. Call Josh at
four O nine eight four to two twenty four zero two.
He is well versed on what this thing does, the
options that we have. There's a ton more this thing
really can do. And we haven't even talking about the ionization.
So yeah, no, dude, come on by the office, be

(21:31):
glad to do it. Heck, come on by the house.
I'll be glad to show you.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
We got about thirty seconds left. Guys, what's the website again?
In phone number?

Speaker 5 (21:40):
All right, I'll give the website a M E R
AI R dot com.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
The phone number four O nine eight four two two
four zero two.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
That's correct, perfect, guys, that's all the time. We have
American Air Systems, Halo Water go check it out. Guys.
Thank y'all for being on the show.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
Dude, you're the Thank you.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Welcome back to the Roy West Show. I'm your host,
Zach Stiles. We've got a great show going on today
and we're gonna keep it going. With the one and
only coach Mike Thomas, head basketball coach at Westbrook High School, coach.
Welcome to the show.

Speaker 7 (22:19):
Thank you, glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Man. You've had some great success while you've been at Westbrook.
Talk to me a little bit about yourself and how
long you've been the coach at Westbrook.

Speaker 7 (22:30):
I'm a Bone one native.

Speaker 8 (22:31):
I'm forty three years old, and this is actually my
fourth year, three years as an assistant coach, and my
first official year as the head coach at Westbrook High School.
And this is my nineteen year in education. And this
is my third head coaching job. So I'm very fortunate
and very blessed to be in this disposition.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Absolutely so. Beaumont born and raised, and you were assistant
coach for three years and now you're the head coach.
So you had a lot of time with these young men,
you know, getting to know who they are, kind of
learn who they are, learn how they play, things like that.
What's it like being the head coach now after being
assistant coach.

Speaker 7 (23:12):
For three years?

Speaker 8 (23:14):
It feels great because it's a great deal of a
responsibility dealing with young men and trying to help and
shape and mold these young men and getting them to
see the bigger picture, getting them to see life two
and three or maybe four or five years down the line,
so they can understand how important some of your decisions
are now they to directly affect you later.

Speaker 7 (23:36):
And what we were able to do this year was amazing.

Speaker 8 (23:39):
And it's a true testament to the coaching staff and
to these young men for believing in the vision, you know.
So I'm forever grateful to those young men.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
Yeah, that's awesome, man, that's just a really cool story too.
The fact that you were there, you've been there, but
you also have that bigger picture, and I think so
many people it gets lost in them, you know, the
importance of being an educator, being a coach, and how
impactful you are in these young men's lives and all
the students' lives that you interact with every.

Speaker 7 (24:07):
Day, right, no question about it, yes, sir.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Well good. So what's it like being the champions? Being
state champs? How's that been?

Speaker 7 (24:16):
Man? Has been incredible?

Speaker 1 (24:17):
Man.

Speaker 8 (24:18):
Everybody recognize you, Everybody love you, you know how it is.
Everybody your friends. So I got a bunch of new friends,
and I appreciate it. I loved I love the respect
and I love the recognition that these young men, you know,
they they brought to the city of Boma, you know,
being recognized throughout the state of Texas. So it's been
incredible and I want to do it again, no question

(24:38):
about it.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Yeah, I bet one of those deals. Once you've been there,
you want to be there again. Huh yes, sir, that's fantastic.
Well good, So talk to me a little bit about
you have a camp coming up that's going to be
for girls and boys. Talk to me a little bit
about that camp and some of the things that the
kids could be looking forward to.

Speaker 8 (24:58):
Okay, Yeah, this is gonna be the first ever camping
champions at Boma and Westbrook High School. And what we're
gonna try to offer just a little fun, some fundamentals,
getting kids excited about the game of basketball and just
kind of you know, getting kids, teaching them how to
shoot the basket, how to dribble, how to pass, and
how to play a little defense, and also how to
build teamwork, work on chemistry, how to bond with the

(25:20):
other kids, and you know, teaching good good things court values.
We're gonna have some people come in and speak to
the to the young people about life and certain things.
We're gonna have some of our kids, our former players
gonna come back and share their experience and just we're
just trying to have fun and bring something positive back
to the community, which I think is is very fortunate.

Speaker 7 (25:39):
And man, we invite everybody from all walks of life.
I don't no matter where you're from, where you're at, I.

Speaker 8 (25:45):
Want you to come and be a part of this
thing in the first annual you know what I mean,
Camping Champions that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
So you know, coach, when is the camp? The when
is that gonna be happening? Where can people go learn
a little bit more about the camp?

Speaker 8 (25:59):
Okay, the camp is gonna be June fifth and six,
and there's gonna be at Bonmat Westbrook High School, And
you could go visit our social media page Bowmant Westbrook
Brewing Basketball on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and.

Speaker 7 (26:14):
You can just click on it.

Speaker 8 (26:15):
They got a QR cod you could just scan it,
sign your kid up for it and we'll get back
with you.

Speaker 7 (26:20):
And also we have pre registration for walk ups.

Speaker 8 (26:23):
It's gonna be between ten thirty and eleven forty five
before we actually start. We'll start at noon doing to
four pm and just kind of give somebody, you know
a little chance to just to have a little fun
to get your summer started off right with a little basketball.

Speaker 7 (26:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Nice, and folks, this is a great way to get
your kids introduced to the game of basketball. They don't
have to be professional basketball players. Don't ever. I had
to play, and they're gonna be learning from state champion,
you know, coaching staff, which is super exciting. And it
sounds to me like you're gonna have you know, it's
gonna be a well rounded not just about basketball, but

(27:02):
some of the things you're instilling your guys, instilling these
young young people, I have a.

Speaker 7 (27:07):
No question about it.

Speaker 8 (27:08):
And it's cost effishent I mean, I guarantee it's the
cheapest camp in America. It's twenty five dollars for two days.
You get a T shirt and they gonna feed you.
So you know, we got sponsors, people been helping out,
reaching out. We want to be a part of it.
So you know, it's not for me. It's not about
making the money. It's about giving the kids an opportunity
to be a part of something, to be involved with it.

(27:29):
Because this is this championship this year, how it resonates
with the community.

Speaker 7 (27:33):
It was an overall deal man, because what we're trying
to do.

Speaker 8 (27:36):
We're trying to bring some positive back to Beaumont, Texas
for people to get excited about driving through our city
and you know, seeing something good going on.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Yeah, absolutely so, folks. June fifth and six, twelve to four,
make sure you get signed up. You can find information
on Beaumont's Bruins Westbrook Basketball website there, but you can
also find it on Facebook, Twitter, you know, all things. Coach,
all right, I got a question for you. So you
know your state champions you know, last year incredible? What

(28:10):
is what are some of the things that y'all are
focusing on, you know, moving into this new season? Uh,
you know what's the most challenging thing that you're kind
of working with your guys on.

Speaker 8 (28:19):
For me, what I've been telling the guys, what happened
last year, happened last year. You have to move forward
because we will have a new team, which means you
got new responsibilities, New roles will be defined with our
new players, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (28:33):
So new strategies, new things. So you got a good coach.
What we do? You got to adapt to your personnel.

Speaker 8 (28:38):
We may not play how we played this year based
off our personnel So that's the challenge getting young men
that that's up and coming to understand the work that
you have to put in, the the dedication you have
to commit to. You got to be dedicated to this
because when one guy may miss a rotation defensively or whatever,
and you're gonna miss it up for the team.

Speaker 7 (29:00):
So it's a team thing. We got to work together.

Speaker 8 (29:01):
And those are the things that we've been emphasized and
focusing on this offseason because right now we're finishing up
our boot camp.

Speaker 7 (29:07):
Boot camp in a positive way.

Speaker 8 (29:09):
What boot camp does, it creates discipline, We build leaders
were building you know what I'm saying, leadership through.

Speaker 7 (29:15):
Our our program. It's like a little tier program.

Speaker 8 (29:18):
You know, first tier is like you're teaching account bit
how to work with us, how to you know what
I'm saying, hold your teammates and and your guys in
your group.

Speaker 7 (29:26):
You know what I'm saying, accountable.

Speaker 8 (29:27):
So those are things that we focus on building the
complete player. It's a holistic approach, that's those Those are
the things that we focus on daily. And I've seen
a lot of growth from the younger guys and you know,
they of course they excited, they hunger, to get opportunity
to prove themselves because a lot of people say, well,
they losing a lot of seniors, they may not be
as good. So you know, it's a lot of motivation

(29:48):
from those young guys to prove that they that they
are just as good or they can be just as
you know good record wise, and get opportunity win another
state championship.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Nice. Yeah, that's uh, that's fascinating. I love hearing that,
you know, kind of what you're working through and what
you're pivoting, you're adapting to the new team, the new players,
things like that, and it's going to be exciting to watch, folks.
So highly recommend you get out and watch a Westbrook
basketball game. Some of these kids probably been itching for
their chance to shine, so they're going to be out

(30:19):
there hard charging. Yes, sir, that's awesome. Man. Well good so, folks,
we got the campus champions coming up. And also, I
don't know if coach mentioned it, he probably did not,
just missed it. But it's for first graders through sixth
graders and girls and boys, So get them signed up.
June fifth and six, twelve pm to four pm at Westbrook. Coach,

(30:45):
is there any other last things that you kind of
like to mention. We got about a minute left. Where
can people find maybe the information again or if they
want to get to know you or or learn a
little bit more about you, where can they go?

Speaker 8 (30:55):
Okay, they could go on Facebook is the Beaumont Westbrook
Basketball Bruin basketball page and we have a QR code
you can click on. And also I'll come back and
share it with you. Maybe you could post it on
the video. Once everything get upload or whatever and they
get a scan on it and it'll take you directly
to the forum. You can fill it out and we'll
we'll we'll reach out to you, make sure we have everything,

(31:17):
get your shirt size and all that stuff. And that's
that's pretty much what we got going on over here.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
You know, folks. One last thing on that they are
going to take walk ups. So if you forget to
sign up or you don't preregister, you will be able
to go June fifth that morning to be able to
get signed up and get registered. Coach, thank you so
much for being on the show. Congratulations on the big
state championship win. We look forward to big things continuing

(31:47):
to come out of Westborok basketball.

Speaker 7 (31:49):
Yes, sir, thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
All right, folks, We've got more coming up on the show.
Stay tuned after this break. Yes, sir, welcome back to
the Royal West Show. I'm your host, Zach Styles. We've
got a great, just human in Kaylee Henry. She's amazing
and does amazing things in our community with Girls Haven.
She is the development director. What a great way to

(32:14):
end the show today, just talking to her a little
bit about what Girls Haven's doing in our community, and
then also a big event that they have coming up
this coming week. Folks. So y'all just be paying attention
and be ready because y'all are going to want to
miss this. Kaylee, welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Thank you, Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
So glad to have you. Kaylee. For those people that
may not know, tell us a little bit about Girls
Haven and what y'all do here in Southeast Texas.

Speaker 9 (32:42):
Yes, So, we are a home for girls between the
ages of six and seventeen. We can house up to
twenty two girls at our facility. All of our girls
are in CPS care, so they've been pulled out of
their homes at no fault of their own due to abuse, neglect, homelessness,
and so they get taken from their homes by CPS

(33:04):
and they go to foster homes or foster group homes
like Girls Haven, And so we not only provide basic
care for the girls like shelter, clothing, food, things like that,
but also therapeutic care. So we have a licensed counselor
that's on staff, We have case management that's on staff,

(33:25):
twenty four hour staff for the girls.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
And then on top of that, we also offer education.

Speaker 9 (33:30):
So our board is also the board for Earhart Charter
School that they started, and so they created that for
the girls, and so the girls attend there and get
their education there and it's kind of more of a
small classroom environment, one on one, and so they get
that through us as well. So we really try to
offer full wrap around services for our residents.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Wow, that's awesome. How many residents you ALTI do We
have any given time, so we can house.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Up to twenty two.

Speaker 9 (34:01):
Lately we've been sitting around twelve to thirteen. It really varies,
so we can have girls that stay for a few weeks.
We have girls who stay for several years, so they
can come in twelve, you know, thirteen years old and
stay till they turn seventeen and age out with us.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
So it just depends on their situation.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
Gotcha cool? And y'all are a nonprofit. You are here
in Southeast Texas just helping girls here that need help
the most for sure, that have been through terrible situations
and y'all are able to be here and support them,
give them the support and the care and the love
that they need. And as a community, we need to

(34:44):
step up and continue to support y'all. And you can
always get what's y'all's.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Website, girls Haven Inc dot org.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Go there, folks. Thanks thanks for Johnny. Yeah, so before
we get into the event, because I want to jump
into that next. Are there certain things that y'all need
all the time? Donations, things like that that the listeners
may be able to provide if it's not monetary.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yes.

Speaker 9 (35:07):
So we have actually a clothing boutique, So whenever we
get clothing donations, shoes, purses, anything like that, we put
them on our clothing boutique so the girls can actually
go in and go shopping. We have an area that
they get to try and close and so that's really
nice for them. So we take, Yeah, any clothing donations
that you think would fit that age range between six

(35:28):
and seventeen, Yes, to go ahead and donate those. We
also take donations of pretty much anything and everything. The
girls love room decor, so they love getting stuff of
their room, especially like the little twinkling lights and stuff.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
They love that.

Speaker 9 (35:42):
So anything that you think that a young lady between
us that age range would like will take awesome.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
See, Folks, that's a way that you can give back
and help a local charity that's doing great work here
in southeast Texas. So, without further Ado, let's talk about
the event this week on the twenty ninth, Kaylee, what
are we looking at?

Speaker 2 (36:05):
So we're having an event.

Speaker 9 (36:08):
It's gonna be kind of a mix and mingle with
a really big announcement. So it's gonna be at the
Girls Haven and Air Heart Charter School campus in our gym.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
So it'll be at five point thirty that day.

Speaker 9 (36:20):
You'll come out kind of afterward, we'll have light refreshments
from bands, and then we're gonna have you know, some
public speakers, myself, mister Joe Penlin, Mss Rose Blunt, who
is the founding member of the board, and so you know,
we're gonna have some lovely speakers and making a really
big announcement about something that we're doing at Girls Haven

(36:42):
and air Heart Charter School in the very near future.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
So we want the community to hear what we're doing
because it's.

Speaker 9 (36:48):
Gonna not only make an impact on the girls, but
also the community.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
Wow, I love a good teaser. I love it. That's great, folks.
You're not gonna want to miss this, not gonna get
You're gonna want to be there Thursday, May five, thirty
Girls Haven. Their location is at thirty three eighty Fannin
Street in Beaumont. You can go to their Facebook and
it basically spells everything out for you. I'm looking at

(37:14):
it right now, but it is free to the public.
You're gonna want to be there. Bandos is always fantastic.
If you've never heard Joe Penlin speak, incredible speaker, just
great Southeast Texas treasure in him. So super excited that
he's the speaker for that event. That's fantastic. And they'll

(37:35):
be taking donations probably there. They'll be taking donations at
the event, So come with donations too, because why not
if you've got some things that these girls would like,
you know, this is incredible opportunity to do that and
just see what these and just be there on campus.
So very cool question if people yeah, no, you're good.

(37:57):
I had a question if people want to give monetarily,
if they want to give donations, where do they do that?

Speaker 9 (38:05):
So you can do it through our Girls saven website
Girls saven ink dot org. We have a link to
a payment page, so you can go on there and
you can do a one time donation, you can do monthly, yearly,
whatever you want to do, and then you can, you know,
reach out to us, like I said, like on our
social media pretty much anywhere where everywhere, popping up everywhere,

(38:27):
so uh yeah, reach out to us if you want to.
You know, monetary donations are always great and kind donations
are great, but also just you know, come and learn
about what we do. So many people really don't know,
uh what we do at Girls Save and where we are,
So come take a tour, learn about what we do.
Have you know our staff, come out, come out and

(38:48):
speak to your organization, to your work. I can do
that anytime. So uh, just really getting involved in any
way and learning what we do.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (38:58):
We have volunteer opportunity, so we have a mentor program
that's kind of a one on one with the girls.
And we also have volunteers who just come out and,
like I said, help move the clothing donations into the
boutique and help with things around the area.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
So lots of different ways to get involved, and we
appreciate any and every way. We love talking about girl
Shaven so well.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
We love Girls Haven at the roy West Show and
we think you'll do amazing things in our community. And
just thank you so much for everything you're doing and
for being on the show today. Greatly appreciate it. Folks.

big announcement. Okay, folks, so you make sure you're there. Kayleie,

Yeah, thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 1 (39:52):

back after this. Welcome back to the Royal West Show
your host, Zack Styles. We've had a great show today.
We kicked it off with Meigan Pounders with Infant Swim Resource.

and she does a great job with her our training
and classes and things like that, so check her out
today at Infant Infant Swim Resource dot Com here in Ohma.
Then we got to talk to Lee Potter and American
Air Systems and Josh Rome about water right, so that

(40:37):
was fun. We got to talk about what goes in
the pool and how filtered water filtration system for the
whole house can just better your life, better, water, better,
all the things. So that was a lot of fun.
Then we had to visit with coach Mike Thomas putting
on a basketball camp called Camp Campions Westbrook High School

(40:58):
this summer June fifth and sixth, first to six graders.
You know you want you want to get involved in that, folks.
It's gonna be really great and get to learn from
a state camp winning coach and get to meet some
of the players and all that good stuff. So check
it out. You can learn more about that if you
go to omar on id in Westbrook and Facebook and
things like that. It's all over the place. We finished

(41:20):
