Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good morning, everybody. This is that's the bottom line. I'm
your host, Jeff Lewis of Asset Growth Associates along with
Gene Valerani. Thanks for sharing part of your weekend with us.
Our top line story this week is the war in Ukraine.
As we mentioned on last week's show, President Trump met
last Friday with President Putin in Alaska, and although a
(00:27):
ceasefire deal was not reached, both leaders spoke highly of
the progress made in the meeting.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
So I think the meeting was a ten in the
sense that we got along great And it's good when
you know two big powers get along, especially when they're
nuclear powers. You know, we're number one, they're number two
in the world, and uh, it's a big deal.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Well yeah, I mean that's a big deal. I'm glad
Trump didn't trigger Putin to launch a nuclear first strike
or anything.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
We have a launch detection. We have so many launch detections.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Femia is confirmed.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
Imagine, I don't want no.
Speaker 6 (01:01):
Confidence is high. I repeat, confidence is high.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
General DBS has trucking three bounds. Tell me this is
one of your simulations. Miss not.
Speaker 7 (01:20):
All right, plush the bombers, get the subs.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
And launch mode.
Speaker 7 (01:25):
We are at theft Con one.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Okay, so maybe my sense of humor is a little dark,
but let's be honest. That's really what's that stake in
these negotiations. We're trying to keep this war from spreading
further into Europe and potentially destroying human civilization. So part
of me if I don't sound sentimental enough about Ukrainian
sovereignty here, we've got a lot more at stake here
(01:52):
than the fate of a region literally none of us
ever heard before twenty twenty two. All right, so mister president,
y'all shook hands and got along. You want to elaborate
on that.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I mean, we were together almost three hours and it
was very extensive and we agreed a lot of points.
I mean a lot of points were agreed on, but
there's not that much, as you know, one or two
pretty significant items, but I think they can be reached.
Now it's really up to President Zolensky to get it done.
And I would also say the European nations they have
(02:24):
to get involved a little bit, but it's up to
Presidents Olynsky. I think we are and if they'd like,
I'll be at that next meeting. They're going to set
up a meeting now between presidents.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Okay, so that sounds like progress. As soon as the
meeting was over, President Trump was on the phone with
half the heads of state in Europe, including Ukrainian President Zelensky.
By Monday morning, they were all arriving in Washington for
probably the biggest wartime summit the White House has ever seen.
The goal was to get the Ukraine on board for
(02:53):
a bilateral meeting with Russia or possibly trilateral with America
as the broker. Apparently that's a mission accomplished.
Speaker 8 (03:02):
After this productive meeting with President and then with all
our colleagues, departners who conformed that way are ready for
trail asal meeting.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
President Zelenski was highly complimentary of Trump on this visit,
even wearing almost the suit this time around.
Speaker 9 (03:19):
I guess he's.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Finally taken the diplomatic part of his shop seriously. He
had a lot of European leaders with them in a
show of support, and although the lamestream media tried to
spend it as they were there to prevent Trump from
bullying Zelensky into a bad deal, in reality that couldn't
have been further from the truth. The Europeans turned out
to be very grateful for President Trump's role in bringing
(03:41):
both sides to the table. Here's NATO Secretary General Mark
Rutte speaking after the meeting.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
I really want to thank you President of the United States,
Theodnalds for the fact that you, as I said before,
broke the deathlog basically with the president, butim starting that dialogue.
And I think it was in February that you had
the first a phone call and from there we are
now very are today and that is I think if
we play this well, we could enter, and we have
(04:08):
to enter, if we have to stop the killing, we
have to stop the destruction of Ukraine's infrastructure. There's a
terrible war.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Not every European leader was so optimistic. French President Emmanuel
Macron was a little more reserved in his assessment.
Speaker 10 (04:23):
When I look at the situation and the fact I
don't see a present putting very willing to get peace now.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
That soundclip was the edited version of what NBC aired
on the Today Show Tuesday morning, but interestingly enough, NBC
left out the quote that followed, which was far more
flattering to President Trump. Quote. But perhaps I'm too pessimistic.
The optimism of your president is to be taken seriously.
(04:54):
So if he considers he can get a deal done,
this is great news and we have to do whatever
we can to have a great deal. In other words,
in spite of all the left wing media attempts to
sabotage the most important European peace deal in thirty five years,
Trump has achieved what no one else has really even
tried to do until now, and that's to get both
(05:16):
sides talking again. He may not have gotten the ceasefire
he wanted, but we're now closer to something even more important,
a settlement to actually end the war. And make no mistake,
Trump's invitation to putin for a one on one meeting
in Alaska was full of implicit messaging. The location of
(05:36):
the meeting itself, Alaska having been sold to US by
Russian and one of the biggest strategic errors in world history.
The fact that was held at Elmendorf Air Force Base,
which housed squadrons of bombers capable of dropping countless nuclear
bombs over the old Soviet Union and the height of
the Cold War. Trump deliberately reinforced that point with its
(05:57):
B two flyover right over the hill of Vladimir Putin
before the meeting. These weren't coincidences. These details were intricately planned.
Treasury Secretary Scott Besson emphasized this point during his interview
on CNBC Tuesday Morning.
Speaker 9 (06:14):
Yeah, I want to set the record straight on what
went on in Alaska. Alaska was a show of force
by President Trump. He invited President Putin to land that
the Russians used to own. He displayed a huge amount
of military hardware and then did a flyover. It was
kind of like inviting your uncontrollable neighbor to your house
(06:35):
and showing him your gun case.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Message sent, message received. Rcp's White House correspondent Phil Wegman
summarized this week's events this way.
Speaker 11 (06:46):
It's hard to sort out what is flattery from these
other world leaders and what is actual progress. But I
think that there is now momentum. Every one of the
seven leaders from these European nations were certain to compliment
Donald Trump, and even Zelensky. This guy read the stage
directions correctly. He did not disagree with Trump in public.
(07:08):
He's very complimentary. Even war sort of a suit. It
wasn't exactly the jacket and tie that we expect from
world leaders, but it was an indication that he realized
that the game in town is the United States. He
has to continue to play nice with Donald Trump. And
what we saw from that meeting about the past meeting
and Friday with Putin to set up a future meeting
(07:28):
with Putin and then another future meeting with Putin and
Donald Trump, was that there was some type of momentum.
There's some type of progress here when.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
We come back, well, look at the ways the media
has been lying to us about the war in Ukraine.
You don't want to miss this staging.

Speaker 7 (09:30):
We're just trying to turn an apple into what time.
That's the bottom line. Can even.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
We are backed with That's the bottom line. I'm Jeff Lewis.
In the first segment, we talked about how NBC selectively
edited French presidents for Crohn's comments to fit their narrative
that in effect, they're rooting against the peace deal. You've
been told for months, really years now that Ukraine can
(10:25):
actually win this thing. They're fighting hard and all they
need is ever increasing levels of American support. The mainstream
media has been working over time to suppress the cold,
hard facts on the ground. On the will Kin Show,
this panelist gave a far more accurate assessment this week
when asked this simple question, who is it that.
Speaker 8 (10:46):
Has the upper hand?
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Who needs a deal?
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Who's winning the war on.
Speaker 8 (10:50):
The ground in Ukraine? Hello, Will Yes, And the state
of play is that the Russians have the initiative in
this war. They're taking ground out its slowly and they're
winning the war of attrition. Attorney undermanned, and we saw
a breakthrough just north of the city of u Krusk
(11:11):
just over the last several weeks that demonstrates this. The
Ukrainians have had to pull back some elite forces from
other fronts in order to cover this gap, and they
have blunted this assault so far, but it puts other
areas of the country at risk. The reality is that
Ukrainians need this deal, They need some type of ceasefire.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
So it's like I've been saying all along, the Ukrainians
are losing. They're starting to run out of the manpower
necessary to keep their front lines intact. Of course, now
that the inevitable is approaching, listen to how news outlets
like MSNBC or should I say ms now are starting
to reframe their coverage. After months of telling us that
(11:57):
the Ukrainians actually have a chance to win this thing.
Here's Joe Scarborough on Monday telling us how we've always
known how this war was going to play out.
Speaker 10 (12:07):
By the way, let's underline two things here, just again
to set expectations to be realistic. Even during the Biden administration,
every Biden official, including the Chairman of the Joint Chief
says they're gonna have to give a plan. They're not
going to like giving left Land, but they're gonna have
to give a plan Number one. Number two, They're not
going to become members of NATO. There may have been
(12:29):
people writing articles in the Wall Street Journal or elsewhere
saying they have to be members of NATO, but you
go around to every European leader that was never going
to happen. But there was an idea of a quasi
NATO type guarantee.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Oh okay, Joe, So let's get this straight. Your network,
which just had to change its name and rebrand itself
because you've been lying out your butt cheeks. For so long,
your network has been saying this whole time that Ukraine
was going to lose land and that they would never
get into NATO. Never mind, Joe, that your network aired
then President Biden giving this speech in twenty twenty one
(13:08):
where he refused to rule out Ukraine joining NATO.
Speaker 12 (13:11):
You know, school's out on that question. It remains to
be seen. In the meantime, we will do all that
we can to put Ukraine in the position to be
able to continue to resist Russian physical aggression. And it
will not just depend on me whether or not we
conclude that Ukraine can become part of NATO.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Where was your coverage, then, Joe Scarborough, when it was
our refusal to shut the door on emitting Ukraine into
NATO that instigated the Russian invasion in the first place.
Of course, this speech was before the war, right, I mean,
it wasn't like this was a consistent position of the
administration or anything.
Speaker 12 (13:53):
Oh No, And NATO will be in Ukraine's future, no
question about that. But we say, as we said in Villainius,
Ukraine will become a member of NATO when all allies
agree and conditions are met, right, now we may have
to make it.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
You got me freaking kiddem me. Joe Scarborough, your singlephant
media pal, has been catering to this nonsense for almost
half a decade. Now here's Nicole Wallace pandering to her
Ukrainian gift.
Speaker 13 (14:23):
Well, you are always very i think, sort of diligent
to keeping our coverage focused on these two in realities,
right that Ukraine is prevailing on the battlefield and there's
an extraordinary amount of Ukrainian and suffering.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Or how about this exchange between Lawrence O'Donnell and a
Yale professor.
Speaker 14 (14:41):
Early on in the war, there are a lot of
people who were saying, well, why are we arming Ukraine?
Isn't that just extending the war because Russia has to win?
And now we see that's not true. Russia doesn't have
to win. Russia is losing, and it's very important to
make sure that Russia does lose, because only a cleared
defeat would reaffirm international law. Only a clear defeat would
(15:04):
make it clear to China that it shouldn't be trying
adventures in the Pacific, And only a clear defeat gives
Russia a chance to get off on some kind of
new foot. So, I mean another fundamental point about what's
happening is that this shows that Russia is losing and
can lose, and that it would be normal for Russia
to lose. This is a stage in the history of
(15:25):
what will be a Russian defeat if we stay the course.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Yeah, that's right, Just stay the course and we can
defeat Russia and get rid of Vladimir Putin. By the way,
that interview is two years old now. Obviously the Russians
are teetering on the edge of the feet, now, aren't they?
That comment age as well as Putrid garbage. But yeah,
Joe Scarboro, y'all have always known that the Ukraine was
(15:49):
going to have to give up land.
Speaker 9 (15:50):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
So are y'all lying now or were you lying here?
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Their aim is to take back all the territory they
say that Russia occupied since.
Speaker 14 (16:01):
The invasion in February, and indeed they want to push
a head even.
Speaker 8 (16:06):
Further to take back Crimea, which Russia annexed in twenty fourteen.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
So, yeah, Joe Scarborough, you need to quit trying to
rewrite history. We're not all as stupid as your viewers.
All seven hundred and fifty thousand of them jij are pathetic.
We're at a serious moment in history, and we've got
to take it seriously. We're going to decide in the
coming months the relationship the United States has with not
just the Ukraine, but with all of Eastern Europe, and
(16:33):
that includes Russia. We royally screwed up our foreign policy
with Russia under Clinton and Bush forty three, and we're
paying the price for it today. Then it was Obama
and Biden that got us entangled in Ukraine when we
shouldn't have been, just as Megan Kelly alludes to here.
Speaker 15 (16:51):
And it's not that like I have sympathy, of course
for the Ukrainian schipol. I mean, what's happened is terrible.
They've had terrible leaders. Yeah, and utter Food is not
a good man. I mean, nobody's going to dispute that.
But not everything can be our problem. And the problem
is we had Democrats who were messing with Ukraine and
kind of trying to make it our problem for a
number of years, which I think led us to feeling
(17:13):
some obligation understandably, But at this point, I mean, like
you've got these two stubborn leaders. I don't know what's
going to happen today.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Honestly, I'm not sure what's going to happen either. We're
talking security deals with Ukraine, and I don't see as
avoiding some form of military presence there, despite Trump's claim
that we won't have boots on the ground. Perhaps we
can simply include them in a security rotation that we
already have an effect in the Eastern Europe, like in
the Baltic States. But maybe with a different approach, we
can actually turn Russia into not a friend, then may
(17:41):
be a partner. We'll be right back.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
Where's Josh trying to turn a Nekoee in woe? That's
the bottom line. Where's Josh trying to turn a neckelle
in to die?
Speaker 16 (17:57):
That's the bottom line.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
Well, good morning everyone. This is Gene Valerani joining the
Weekly Report at its time in this weekly broadcast to
lift you on a little, dirty, little secret is what
we've called it over the years. You know, last week
we were discussing the latest developments between President Trump and
(18:19):
Russian Premiere Putin at their recent meeting in Alaska. Well,
it didn't take long for Russia. After only two days
after President Trump and he met, well, Frutin fruit of form.
Soon after returning to the Krumblin ordered the launch of
(18:39):
three hundred and nine drones and ten missiles into the Ukraine,
causing large fires to break out among the targets Putin
fired into the Ukraine. We're on Ukrainian oil and gas refineries.
All this occurred after mister Zolensky flew into DC for
(19:03):
more talks with President Trump and what most thought were
true steps to ending that war. So much for peace
negotiations with Russia to negotiations and its invasion of the Ukraine,
Optimism quickly turned to more treachery from Putin's Russia. How
(19:25):
peace talks will resume going forward and any deal ending
the conflict remains to be seen. After President Trump met
with Boote, met with Zelenski, and the future looked as
if a truce between Russia and the Ukraine might have
a chance. But it didn't take long for Putin to
(19:45):
dampen the oapes for a quick end to the war.
Member countries of NATO met with President Trump and Putin
and Trump's some it occurred as the NATO countries heads
of state gathered at the White House else to engage
in talks with President Trump, who still is going to
try and bring the Russian Ukrainian conflict to a peaceful end.
(20:09):
Peace may yet a cur but it appears mister Putin
has other has other plans, and it seems like he
wants to flex his muscles first and they then begin
yet another amissal attack on the Ukraine. Now, maybe the
meeting last week with Trump was only a head fake
on Putin's park, or maybe there's still a chance for
(20:32):
peace talks to occur between the Ukraine and Russia. Anyhow,
this was my initial reaction to the news of there
being a potential meeting to occur between Russia and the Ukraine.
Any further developments will have to include second guessing as
to what Putin really has up his sleep. And for
(20:55):
all intents and purposes, I suppose Putin thought he could
overrun the uk Ukraine area that he wanted to confiscate.
A time's going to tell, and soon we'll know the
outcome of that conflict, or maybe we won't. Putin knows
what he wants, and I suppose he's not someone the
rest of the world can trust. But you've got to
(21:15):
give the Ukraine credit for styming slowing down Russia's invasion,
which so far has caused more casualties among Russian troops
and it has on the Ukraine's troops. Now, there yet
may be a peace deal, but it will have to
wait a while longer, and that's how it appears to be. Then,
keep in mind my opinion as to how this will
(21:38):
all end really doesn't matter. President Trump wants to bring
an end to the conflict, and I suppose the NATO
alliance also wants an end to the conflict. After all,
I doubt anyone wants another world war between the East
and the West. Is Putin trustworthy and I doubt it.
(21:59):
He probably has to watch his back in the Kremlin
as well as where he has enemies inside Russia who
would like to lift him from his power, and that
too is a possibility. But then no one knows the future.
And the one thing we do know is that Vladimir
(22:20):
Putin is not a nice guy and he wants as
much control over Russia and the Ukraine as well. Now,
to what length he will go remains to be seen.
It's also possible his enemies in Russia itself might try
to remove him from power as well. Now I don't
know that there's a plot on him going on over there,
(22:44):
but you know, they might try to pull him out
of there. Who knows Putin wants to rebuild the Russian Empire.
He wants to rule over it with an iron fist.
I think we can all agree with that. And he
has dashed away, listen to this hetashed away millions of
dollars for himself and surrounded himself with loyalists. But in
(23:08):
the end, like most dictators, he may reach the point
of no return and be overthrown from power. It could happen,
and I for one wouldn't be surprised if it didn't
eventually occur. I guess this chapter in world history will
just have to play out one way or another. And
that then is the bottom line. When we take a
(23:29):
look at what's going on over there right now, I
guess it's not really settled. We thought when he met
with Trump that maybe they were going to get together
and they were going to get the fellow from the
Ukraine in there with them, and they the three of
them were going to meet. But as soon as he
broke his meeting up with President Trump, Puton goes back
(23:50):
to Russia start sending missiles and drones into the Ukraine
blowing up their oil rigs and their gasoline and things
like that. So that war is still pushing on, and
I guess they're going to keep trying to get it settled,
(24:10):
and there's going to be more meetings coming up. But
then in the meantime, we have no control over what
mister Putin's going to do. And mister Putin, I guess
he has a mind of his own and he does
pretty much what he wants to do. So this bears
more watching and we'll have to wait and see the outcome.
But at least Trump is trying to bring peace into
(24:34):
that conflict and end that war, so that remains to
be seen. We'll be back with more right after this.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
We're just trying to turn a nickel into what that's
the bottom.
