Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, hello Southeast Texas. So glad you've joined us today.
We have an exciting show. I know you guys are
probably out there finishing up that last little bit of
Christmas shopping. We are thrilled to be able to have
the pastors from Praise Church with us today. We're going
to share a little bit about what they are doing
this Christmas season and how you might want to join them.

(00:21):
So first joining us is reg Lloyd, who is the
lead pastor at Praise And I know everyone calls you Reggie,
so I'm going to do the same thing. So Reggie,
let's talk a little bit about what exactly you guys
have going on this Christmas season.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, we have our candlelight Christmas Eve service. It's become
a family tradition for our church and for many in
Southeast Texas. And we're offering three opportunities at twelve, two,
and four, and it's just a time to experience all
things Christmas. When I was a teenager, I remember I
lived in Silsby. Our family would load up in the

(00:57):
car and go to Beaumont. It was Cathedral in the
Pines the time, and that became a tradition for us
and even as a teenager, I remember enjoying sitting next
to your family, my sister, my mom, and my dad
and extended family, and just singing the songs, hearing the story,
seeing children reenact the Nativity, and there was something very

(01:18):
special that even each year as a teenager, I would
look forward to. Yeah, and that's exactly what we get
to offer families come in. It's all things Christmas, all
the sounds, all the smells, all the sights, all the
picture opportunities, and it's a moment in a day that
can be very hectic to be still and to enjoy

(01:38):
quality time and relationship and just to sit in the
moment before things get really really busy.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah, and just a moment to remember why we're celebrating Christmas.
You know, the birth of Christ is the real meaning,
and so often we get wrapped up in all the
other things. And all the other things are great and
wonder full and fun. But to have that as our
thought process, to be mindful of why we're celebrating Christmas,

(02:09):
I think is so critical. One of the things I
love that praise does is the time that you utilize
to do that, because it gives people opportunity to do
it at three different times that afternoon, no matter what
their schedule is going to be.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, we've learned some people are working that day. Yeah,
our families meet at different times in the day, so
it gives options.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Yeah. I love that because I know some families are like,
oh no, well we have dinner at six. Well that's great.
You still have other opportunities to come, or maybe you
have to travel a couple of hours away. Well, you
can come at the early service. So give us those
times again that you guys will be available.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, it's twelve, two and four.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Perfect, so you get to choose. Now, tell us some
of the things that we're going to be having there
in that service. I know you said singing, so carols
will be there and I'm sure candle light.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, there's four. We start with four filters and we
give you some insider information for four filters that we
want to hit. One is traditional. We all love the
traditional songs. We all love to sing the silent night.
We all like to light the candle. We want a
worshipful environment too. It's a moment to really let that
moment sink in. We want it to be a family

(03:24):
moment as well. That's usually with our children coming on
stage and doing something. And there's one more like a
wow moment. That was the fourth thing, a wow moment
where whether it's just a beautiful instrumental or beautiful video
or something that just captures your heart. So those are
the four things that we start with on a blank
sheet of paper and say, how do we make those
things happen within this hour and ten minutes fifteen minutes

(03:48):
that we have and we work towards that. So, yes,
there's be a candlelight at the very end where one
candle begins and then it just spreads throughout the entire auditorium.
There'll be Carol's the favorite singing of the songs, and
of course being able to hear the story retold again,
hopefully not just in a traditional science, but in a

(04:08):
way that bridges twenty twenty four to how it affects
us today.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Yeah, and then you know, I'm in a study it's
called BSF Bible Study Fellowship where we're studying Revelation. So
it's not just how the birth of Christ, how it
applies today, but also you know what we can expect
in the future is another way to think about Christmas,
because it is the birth of Christ is for his
first coming, but there is another coming. There is a

(04:36):
second coming where we are going to see him again.
So I am so excited about the services that we
have coming up. I will tell you as a child
growing up to we would go to service with my
grandparents and it is one of those core memories. And
so that church service does begin for us the Christmas season.
For us, that was the beginning. We would go to

(04:58):
the service and then we would have done with my
grandparents and then of course the next morning all of
the wonderful gifts. But what a wonderful way, what a
wonderful tradition to have with your family, to be able
to do that, love it well, I appreciate that. I
hope that you guys will all join us. That is
going to be the Christmas Eve service at Praise Church.

(05:19):
Give everyone the address if they want to know where
is Praise Church located.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, it's eighty one to fifty Major Drive, real.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Easy to find. Just head north on Major Drive and
you will see the building there on the right before
you get to Tram Road. So we would love for
you to join us noon two or four on Christmas Eve.
We have lots more to come don't go away. This
is Dana Simmons with the Dana Simmons Show. Welcome back.
This is Dana Simmons and I have the pastors from

(05:48):
Praise Church here.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
With me today.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
We have been visiting with Reg Lloyd, who is the
lead pastor, about the Christmas services and if you do
not have a place to worship on Christmas Eve, we
would like to invite you to come on out to
Praise Church. It is at the end of Major Drive
and the services are at noon two and four. What
a wonderful Christmas tradition. Would love for you to join us.

(06:12):
But after Christmas, we have some amazing things coming at
Praise Church as well, and so we want to hit
back over with Reggie to talk about what is it
that you have coming after the first of the year
that is so exciting for Praise Church, but also for
those who maybe they don't have a church and they
need a place to jump in and the new year

(06:33):
with a new place to join, new friends to meet.
Talk a little bit about that.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, the new year provides an opportunity to begin again.
We all need new ways to start. We need new
ways to start each day right and the new year
gives an opportunity to have a vision for your life
once again, and without vision, it's just it's like black
and white. So we'd like to start out with the

(06:58):
series are an idea of what would captivate people's attention
concerning the study of the Bible and the Old Testament.
It can be intimidating for many of us. There's a
lot of information, there's a lot of characters, and it's
hard to put in a chronological sense how things happened

(07:20):
all the way up until the birth the life of Jesus.
So we're just going to try to help it make
sense by starting with key biographical figures, our figures, historical
figures in the Old Testament, and carry that in chronological
order all the way up to Jesus, which is going
to culminate on Easter Sunday. So this study is going

(07:40):
to begin at the beginning of the year and end
as a study on April the twentieth, which is which
is Easter. So we're going to begin with Noah, and
then from Noah we're going to go to Abraham, and
to Abraham, to Moses and to Moses Joshua, and we're
just going to carry it all the way through the Judges,
the Kings, and the profit until it gets to BC

(08:03):
or it gets to ad to the time of Jesus's birth.
And the reason why we want to do this is
because it can be challenging to know who followed who.
We know their stories. We know there was an arc,
we know there was a party in the Red Sea,
but sometimes we don't know exactly the timeline, and so
we're just going to help make sense of how the
Old Testament this what could be intimidating, how this orders

(08:27):
out within the people, and talk about the individual's characteristics,
the personal characteristics, what was the world like during their time,
what was the big challenge, and how did God use
them in his redemptive story paving the way to get
to Jesus.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
I absolutely love that I have been this year going
through the Bible in a year with Tara Lee Cobble,
and we are almost to the end. And I have
never in my many years I've been on this earth
a while, never read through the Bible chronologically ever, and
this is my first time and it is the coolest

(09:02):
thing to do it that way. And so to understand
the way you're talking about in order of who were
these men, How did they participate? How is Jesus even
involved in the Old Testament? How do you see him there?
I get excited about that because, let me tell you
what that is so interesting when you look at it

(09:25):
and you go, I didn't realize that was there. I mean,
there's so much there that you don't know. Well, I'm
excited about that. What I'm also excited about is that
you not only carry that into the church body, but
into other areas of the church as well, right, And
so tell me some of the ways you do that.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
One of the things that I think is beautiful about
Praise is that it is a family church where you
have grandparents worshiping next to their grandchildren.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
And you're an example of that, right example, My granddaughter is.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
A granddaughter an along you're there, And it's a beautiful
thing to be able to walk into a church, to
sit in a seat, to sing, to learn about your
faith with your entire family. Absolutely, and we want, we
want to and we do value one of it. We
have five big initiatives and one of them is the
next Gen. And we believe in the next gen. We

(10:20):
believe in from birth all the way up to young adults.
And we want to do our part to pour whatever
we have, the wisdom, the knowledge that we've gathered over
our years into them so that they can't succeed and
be set up for success in life. And part of
that is our next gen. And Nick is our youth pastor,
and he has a very simple plan but yet effective

(10:45):
plan on how to pour into the next gen.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah, and I will tell you I heard Nick speak
for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and
oh my goodness, Nick, I was so just amazed at
the way you delivered the gospel, but all so how
you did it in a way that listen, I have
a childlike mine sometimes and so I love the way
it connected with me. And you were funny, but you weren't.

(11:10):
I just thought it was amazing and I loved how
you did that. And I had not met you before,
So I love that you're here, and I'd love for
you to share a little bit about how you impart
that same knowledge to the youth, because that's a challenge.

Speaker 4 (11:26):
I think, Well, thank you, Dan, I appreciate your kind words.
It's an honor to be at praise. And I think
Reg is right when he talks about the importance of
next gen and that is just a true statement in
terms of resources and finances. We really do believe in
the next gen. I think for me, the basic thing
that I always think of is Hebrews four twelve. The

(11:49):
Word of God is alive and active, and so how
do we translate that to students. My heart is that
students fall in love with the Word. And I think
at the end of the day, when I look at planning,
when I look at programming, when I look at our
fun events, when I look at our retreats and our
mission trips and all the things we do, my question
is always how do we help students own their faith?

(12:09):
So often you have seniors who graduate high school and
they have been coming and attending, and they're only a
believer because their parents brought them or they were forced
to go. And so my heart is, how do we
open up the Word of God? How do we teach
the Word of God in a way that teenagers will
understand it and be able to see themselves in God's

(12:30):
story and truly own their faith. Where they want to
come to youth because they have a connection with the Lord,
and where they want to grow with Jesus because they've
experienced him on a retreat or a mission trip, and
that's my heart. That's where that's kind of where we
land on. How we plan, what we do, the trips
that we have, the Bible studies that we do. How

(12:52):
do we get to a point where students say, this
is my faith and I follow Jesus because of the
experience I've had with him.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Yeah, and here's what I hear from that. It's not
teaching morality, it's teaching gospel centered faith that it is
a heart change. And so I remember growing up it
was more morality, you do this, you don't do that.
It was about being good and in our own flesh.
It's impossible. I mean, you can for a little while,

(13:19):
but it is only when you experience that heart change
that you can really from the inside out, make a difference.
And I think that's what you're saying right there.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Yeah, And I think one of my big things is
teaching who Jesus is. I think when we can you know,
RAG talked about we know the stories, but do we
really know how it all connects? Do we really know
the power of God throughout the Old Testament in the
New Testament? And so oftentimes we spend I spent a
lot of time really focused on who Jesus is, because
I believe when we understand who he is, what he's

(13:50):
done for us, the sacrifice that he's made, how he
loves us, our belief and our understanding changes our behavior.
And it really that's where you get the morality. You know,
we don't do things because the Bible says we have to.
We do things because of who God is, we worship
him and therefore we live our lives as worthy of that.
And so that's where we land on really just imparting like, Hey,

(14:14):
do we know who Jesus is and do we understand
what He's done for us? And I think when we
do that, it changes how we view the world. It
changes how we view our attitudes and our behaviors with teenagers,
it changes how we viewed dating relationships, how we view
what we put into our bodies, what we watch on TV,
what we listen to. And so how do we help

(14:34):
students understand the power and the majesty of who our
God is and who Jesus is?

Speaker 1 (14:40):
So Nick, talk a little bit about what are some
of the opportunities and the age ranges that you actually
work with at price.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
So we service six to twelfth grade students and our
big program is Wednesday night. We have it's our youth program,
it's free time, it's games, and then it's transition into
worship and teaching and small groups. And so that's our
that's our that's our big rock, that's our super Bowl
to say, and so all students come out. The key

(15:10):
on a Wednesday Night is really are small groups. Worship's great,
teaching is great, but we really want students to get
connected with same gender students their age, and so all
of the groups are split up by age and gender
and and grade. And so we have adults who are
background checked and trained who their goal and their heart
is to build relationships with students and point them to

(15:33):
Jesus and everything that they do. So that's that's the
big opportunity that students have. And then once a month
we do what we call workshops on a Sunday morning,
and there's one for junior high students, one for high
school students. That's where we deep dive into the Bible.
We're studying verse by verse, different different books and so
we just in this past fall we finished we did

(15:57):
Mark with the jay Hires and we did Genesis with
the high school and so stories that students know, but
really digging into them and understanding how how the Gospel
of Mark connects with all the Old Testament all the
New Testament. And so that's every month on Sunday mornings,
and then we have as we talk about the new year.

(16:18):
My excitement is all around February. We have a big
winter retreat coming up. Six through twelfth graders. We go
away for the weekend. There's something about going away, taking
cell phones away. The students hated it first, but once
we get into Saturday and they're disconnected from the distraction
of their cell phone and the world, and they're able
to focus on the Lord, focus on their friends, focus

(16:39):
on their small group leaders. Something happens and so it
is a sweet time of worship and fellowship and you
just you don't get that when you're at home rushing
through an hour and a half program on a Wednesday night.
And so that's what I'm really excited for. And that's
six through twelfth grade too.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
So and what are those dates in February.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
Those dates are February fourteenth through the sixth, and so
we go up to a camp called Piney Woods. It's
about two hours away and it is just a phenomenal
time away with the Lord, with our friends. And we
already have students who can't wait, who are talking about
last year's event and how great it was, and they're
so excited for what's coming up next year this coming year.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
So we have praise at nine o'clock in the morning,
there is a service, eleven o'clock in the morning, there
is a service for everyone. But then Wednesday nights talk
about what is the time for the youth to get started.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Yeah, so we start we call it pre party. It's
our fun time. That starts around six o'clock and so
students are welcome to come on property. We're mostly outside
at our smaller building on our campus, and then around
six forty five we head inside for a service and
that's worship. That's where we do our teaching, and then
we have our small groups. After that, we wrap up

(17:52):
the night around eight fifteen eight thirty. So we pack
a lot into a Wednesday night, and we're very intentional
with what we do. Want there to be fellowship, we
want there to be time and worship, time in the Word,
and then of course our small group time more students
are able to connect with people their own age and
then leaders who love them.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Well, that's great. So if people are interested in getting
more information about Wednesday Night or even the winter retreat
in February, where can they get that information?

Speaker 4 (18:19):
So the best place would be our website, Praisechurch dot tv.
We have a youth page that you can find under
our ministry's tab that'll have all your information for Wednesday
Nights for the retreat, as well as all of our
summer events that are coming up, all the dates for that,
and that's the best place you can sign up there,
get connected and get plugged in.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
That's wonderful. Well that was Nick, who is the youth
pastor at Praise and we are in our next segment
going to talk to Darien Graves, who is the young
adult pastors. If you have anyone in your life who's
past that senior high school level and they need a
place to connect, don't go away. We're going to be
right back to visit with Darien. This is the Danas
Imns Show. Welcome back. This is Dana Simmons. I am

(19:03):
loving this show today. We have the pastors from Praise
Church here with us. It is actually where I go
to church, and let me just say, every single week
we get amazing teaching from every one of our pastors.
And what I love is Reg Lloyd is, yes, the
lead pastor, and he typically does the teaching, and every

(19:25):
week it's like the Lord knows exactly what to tell
Reg to say that I need to hear. So it's
wonderful every single week. But what I also love is
that as he brings on each of the other pastors,
I'm equally amazed each time they speak because their heart
for the Lord and the way that they teach is amazing.
And Darien Graves is no exception from that rule. He

(19:47):
brings so much passion as he teaches on Sunday mornings
when he does do that. But Darien, you are the
young adult pastor, and let me just say, I know
you bring that same passion to them as well. So
talk a little bit about your position and what it
is that you do at Praise.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yeah, So I appreciate your kind words. We really do
our blessed to be able to have the opportunity to
speak to a large amount of people. And obviously, when
you go to a church, maybe smaller or a larger
there's people that are young adul and like what is
a young adal? Is it eighteen? Is it twenty five?
And really at Pray Church, we've kind of moved this
around a couple different times, but for us, it's eighteen

(20:25):
and thirty five. And in a world that's really transitional,
a lot of times people will come out of high
school and they'll ask the big question of what am
I to do next? Yeah, and we hope that if
you are trying to find a church that you would
ask the question of what is it that God wants
me to do next? And sometimes you need some guidance,
you need some preparation with that. And so in our
OLDLD ministry, we do our best to try to find
people eighteen and thirty five and point them in the

(20:46):
ways that maybe God's leading you into this way. And
so we do like a big First Tuesday service and
it's similar to what you would see on a Sunday.
And so there's going to be a centralized message that
hopefully is relevant to you. There's going to be a
time for singing and song, which we call worship. There's
gonna be opportunity for you to connect with your friends
or family members, and a time for like before and
after service, and there's gonna be opportunity for prayer. We

(21:06):
just believe in the power of prayer, and so in
each of these four moments in our service, we believe
they are like taking your hand who's maybe far from
God or maybe near to God and putting it in
the hand of God. And so we just want to
do as many different ways as possible and set people
up who are eighteen to thirty five in south East
Texas to be able to do that. And I think
that one of the cool things about our Young Old
Ministry or early as to say, our church is there's

(21:29):
a lot of opportunities for you to get connected, and
so maybe the first Tuesday is like a little tough
for you. We've got small groups that take place all
throughout the week and all throughout the semester all over
Southeast Texas, and so we really look at our Young
Old Ministry through six filters. The first one is we
want people to celebrate, and so we want people to
celebrate the things that God's done and that happens on
our first Tuesday. The second one is we want them

(21:52):
to have an apologetic or a defense for their faith.
And this looks like going over like hard topics and
hard conversations, And so we do a second Tuesday, which
is called our equipment Night, and so we do our
best job to say, what are the things that we
can equip you equip the saints through the work of
the ministry, but also equip you with hard answers or
even hard truths. So if you're like a Lamar student,
or maybe you're like a guy who works at Exxon

(22:12):
or a plant and a bunch of guys are in
the room and they're talking and they're like, man, I
don't know if I can really believe in this Jesus guy,
because what about abortion or what about homosexuality, or what
about you know, finances or whatever, ABC and D. These
are the questions like in a postmodern world that if
you were to get on TikTok or social media or Instagram,
people are gonna be poking holes in these big topics

(22:34):
and ideas. And so instead of running away from it,
we just believe that young a old's one authentic relationship and
they want the truth. And I didn't write the book,
but the scriptures are really clear, and so we just
try to do our best to say here's what God's
word says. And if you're in, you're in. If you're not,
that's okay, but keep hanging out with us. So our
second Tuesday nights, I love, there's the opportunities to take
place our third one. In the third filter, we look

(22:55):
at his prayer and so we just believe that young
olds are making a bunch of big decisions right now. Yeah,
we should spend some time praying about it. And so
let's teach them how to pray. Let's teach them meet
the needs of our church family and our ministry to
how to pray with them. And then we want to
take time in the service for you just to be
still and connect with God. If there're anything like me,
life is moving super fast and so it's sometimes maybe

(23:16):
hard to put in your calendar and you take five
minutes or ten minutes or fifteen minutes to pray and
just maybe seek wisdom and get discernment from God. And
so we just try to take time on a third
Tuesday and teach people and create a rhythm inside of
their month on that schedule. And the fourth one, which
is I'm excited about the will add in a couple
of months, is if we want them to serve. We
want them to go out into our local community. We
want them to serve. So we want them to teach

(23:37):
them that when you serve, you look more like Jesus
and be in the hands and feed of the church.
Sometimes it's really great to be inside the church. What
would look like for us to go out. We did
a vision series and it was all about you know,
wherever your mission field is, where your two feet are,
And so we want to quit young girls to be
able to do that. And then our fifth one is
small groups like I was saying earlier, and we want
them to be able to break bread together, encourage one another,

(23:58):
pray with one another, open up scripture with one another,
and hopefully do life with one another, hold them accountable,
repent and confess sin with one another, but also challenge
one another and show them that God is still alive
and active. And he's not just doing it on a
Sunday morning, but he's doing it on a Tuesday afternoon,
and he's doing it on a Wednesday morning, and he's
doing it on Thursday. And wherever you're at, you find

(24:19):
yourself with maybe some other guys or some other girls,
or either young married couples or young kids and try
to do that. Then our last one that we look
for is we want people to hang out. We want
this not just to be like my life over here
is my church friends. And then I've got my friends
that I hang out with and I play intermurals with,
and I've got my friends I study with.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
It.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
So like we want them to do all these things together.
And so about once a month or so, we'll gather
up and we'll say, hey, let's let's have a gala,
or let's have friends giving, or let's do a grill
off or volleyball or pick a ball. And so we
just want to for you to invite all your friends
and we'll all come the same location. We'll pay for it,
we'll put it all together and just give people an
opportunity excuse to hang out outside of the church, so

(24:57):
they'd be the hands and feet. But also like ind
community with one another.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Absolutely, community is important for everyone. Everyone needs that. And
you mentioned that it happens on Tuesday night, So talk
about where and what time on Tuesday nights. If you're
eighteen to thirty five, you're welcome to come, and so
talk a little bit about where that is.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
So it's at the Walker Building, which is right next
to the major building, and we do that on Tuesday
at seven pm, and every service starts at seven o'clock.
I try to be very promped because I think people
they want to show up on time, and so we'll
start at seven and you're usually going to get around
about eight fifteen, eight thirties or so, and there's an
opportunity for you to meet friends and hang out with
new people. So if you don't know anybody, that's okay.

(25:37):
We all were new to a church at some point, absolutely,
and so we don't put it past anybody to say
that it might be a little intimating when you show
to a place you don't know anybody, and so do
our best our ability have really big doors and people
that are smiling and saying, hey, I was in your
shoes at one point. Hopefully you find your fay to
get connected. And so yeah, it's every Tuesday, and then
our small groups are able to get plugged in and

(25:58):
those are on every single night of the week as well.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
It's wonderful you mentioned small groups, so you again break
up into different little groups, and it depends on when
they're available and where they kind of connect with. So
talk a little bit about if someone was interested in
a small group, where do they find a place to connect.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Yeah, so everything is on our website. So you can
go to Praichurch dot tv and there's a table on
there that says ministries, and you can click on there
and it says small groups and there's a bunch of filters.
If you're looking to find an eighteen to thirty five
year old small group, you can click on there and
says praising adults. And then it's going to list around
maybe twenty three to twenty five different small groups that
are going to happen on campus at Lamar, Lumberton and

(26:35):
Beaumont coffee shops in and around the Lumberton area and
then and even in Beaumont. And some of them are
led by older adults in our church, and some of
them are led by young adults that are inside of
our church as well. And each of them go through
specifically a Book of the Bible, and some of them
even go through the Sunday Message as well. And we
just want to quip you, and so we say, maybe
you don't know everything right now, but can we partner

(26:55):
with with someone in our church who does or knows
a little bit more. Maybe it's in the next season
of their life. And so groups are split up by
gender and age, and so there's eighteen to twenty two,
twenty two to twenty six, and twenty six to thirty five.
I love tell you kind of say, hey, I'm not
in the same season of these guys. That's okay. There's
a group that is for you, that is in the
same season as you. And so we've got young married

(27:16):
small groups, we've got young married and engaged small groups,
and we've got young marrieds with kids small groups as well,
and so there is genuinely a home for everybody. I
do believe that I love it well.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
I didn't really study the Bible most of my life
until I turned about thirty I started in a Bible study.
And so it can be intimidating when you walk in
and people start talking about these books. And if when
someone said Hebrews to me, I would have thought that
was an Old Testament Bible passage, you know, because I

(27:48):
didn't know at the time. But it's okay not to know,
and you can't begin to learn until you step out
and there are other people in that group. That are
just like you, and no one is there to say, oh,
you don't know enough. It is where we begin in
the beginning. Each of us start there, and so I
love that. So you talked about praise young adult small groups,

(28:09):
but we have small groups for just about every generation.
As a matter of fact, my husband and I lead
one of those small groups. So if you're interested in
a Sunday small group that we start right after the
first service. So we go from the first service at
nine o'clock till ten about ten fifteen, and we try
to start around ten thirty ten forty five. If you're
interested in that, reach out to me. Love for you

(28:30):
to join us every Sunday, and we are open to
anyone who wants to come. We have no parameters with ours.
You guys have age groups, we don't. I will tell
you the majority of them are older like we are.
But we've had a few younger people come before. So
we would love to have anyone who would like to come.
But talk a little bit about other small groups that

(28:51):
are available. I mean, you have a huge range that
are that people can join. Yeah, all over Southeast Texas too.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
It is it is genuinely all over Southeast Texas. I
was talking to Corey yesterday or a small group's pastor,
and he said, right now, there's about forty five different
small groups that are offered, and I think that's it's interesting.
I say, it's actually really cool because you could be
someone who is seventy years old in a small group
with someone who's about thirty five years old, and you've
got young marrieds, and you've got older myriads, and you've

(29:18):
got wisdom just all throughout the room. And so all
of our small groups are listed on our Praise Church
like dot tv website and you can find just about
anything that you want to like on there. You can
look for a group that has childcare, you can look
for a group that is maybe trying to say we
are for young thirties and forties and whatnot. But I
think what's really cool that Corey has been doing recently

(29:39):
is a discovery small group. And so you might say, well,
I don't really know. I feel weird about going to
a small group. I have to drive to Buno, or
I got to drive to the Lumberton or Beaumont, I
got to show up to somebody's house, Like is it
going to be weird? And uncomfortable, Well, Corey's not. A
really cool thing is called a discovery small group. And
so what that is is on Thursday nights at the church,
they offer childcare and it's just a bunch of people
inside of her room and they say, this might feel uncomfortable,

(30:01):
but let's do our best to work through it. And
so they'll go through the Sunday content as well, and
there's two or three different leaders there that are able
to really make sure that everybody in the group feels comfortable.
And so I think it's a genius idea and it
makes a big church feel really small, and it's an
opportunity for you to say, I can't really ask a
question on a Sunday morning. It might be a little
uncomfortable or maybe a little inappropriate. But on a Thursday

(30:24):
or Tuesday and whatever night your small group is, it's
a really good opportunity for you to say, Hey, this
is what it says, but what does this mean for me?
How do I live this out? How do I apply this?
And all of our small group leaders are people who
are just like you and I. They work jobs, they've
got questions, they don't have all the answers. Nobody's at
the Elosian. But there are people that want to do
life with you as well, and so whenever you get sick,

(30:45):
you probably call your small group. Whenever you have a
bad day, your small group leaders. People inside your small
group are there for you. They're willing to do life
with you. And every group looks a little bit different,
but for majority of our groups, it's people who are
trying to say, what is it the Gods leading me
and pointing me to right now this season? So I
am so pro small group. I believe everybody ought to
be in a small group.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Yeah, me too.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
I think that a church is awesome, but small group
is really where people start to understand and know who
Jesus is in a really profound, a.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
New way, and so connect too with other people in
their hard times. You know, we have people in our
small group who have had some challenges come up. It
allows us an opportunity to minister to them in such
a way that's meaningful and because we really care about them.
And so I love small groups as well, and I
think it is a wonderful way to do community. One

(31:33):
of the things that you also said, you talked about
the welcoming environment. I will tell you. It is the
one thing that when we before we started coming to
Praise Church, as we were visiting, I will tell you
the one thing that stood out to me most was
as we came in, everyone was so welcoming. You know,
Pastor Regg was out there welcoming everyone, shaking people's hands.

(31:56):
I mean every single person when we came into the building,
they were like, hy so glad you're here. It was
the most welcoming place I've ever been. So so many
great things going on at Praise Church. Again, if you
want more information, you can go to their website. But
we're going to come back and we're going to talk
to Scott Hawk, who's the executive pastor. Don't go away.

(32:17):
This is Dana Simmons with the Dana Simmons Show.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
Welcome back.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
This is Dana Simmons and I am joined today by
the pastors at Praige Church and we started off with
Reg Lloyd, who is the lead pastor, just sharing a
little bit about the upcoming Christmas Eve services and you
do not want to miss those. They will be at
Praise Church which is on Major Drive. The services are
at noon, two and four, so would love for you

(32:44):
to join in on that also spoke with Nick. Okay, Nick,
help me say your last name.

Speaker 4 (32:51):
You can Tryazan It awesome. It is exactly how it
looks like.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
I did not want to destroy yet. So Nick is
a youth pastor and spoke a little bit about how
he leads our youth here at Praise, and also with
Asterian Graves who is the young adult pastor, who spoke
about eighteen to thirty five year olds as well as
the small groups that Praise has to offer. Well, now
we want to visit with Scott Hawk, who is the

(33:18):
executive pastor, and so Scott, let's talk a little bit
about why Praise does what it does, and let's talk
about what is the mindset of all of the pieces
that are there, what is the main theme or vision
that Praise has.

Speaker 5 (33:35):
Yeah, so just like with any organization, not just in
the church world, but you have a reason for existing,
right and need to make sure you keep that in
front of your people. Otherwise you just end up doing
the same thing over and over again with a lot
without a lot of expectation of things to come or
things to change. So we don't just exist to have

(33:57):
church every seven days or on Sundays, or you know
young adults with every Tuesdays or Wednesday for youth, there's
a reason why we gather together. We're actually moving somewhere
as a group of believers, and like every church is,
we should be working together to be able to achieve
one goal. And so several months back, over the summertime

(34:17):
and long before that has been brewing in the leadership
of our church, our heart to kind of redefine that
for our church and to communicate that in a new
and fresh way, maybe not brand new, but a new
way of saying a really really good truth that has
been born within us. And so Jesus pray to prayer
the Lord's prayer, and Jesus said, your Kingdom Come, will

(34:41):
be done on earth as it is in heaven. When
we think about why we exist as a group of believers,
we would say, well, we exist to help people to
love God, to love people, and to make a difference.
We really begin to try to hone that in and
make it a sticky saying where our people would be
able to take that with them from Sunday Tuesday Wednesday

(35:01):
into their worlds. We said, well, how can we communicate
that in a new way? We said, well, let's look
at what Jesus said. Jesus says, probably probably pretty good
for us to be able to say the same thing.
So Jesus says, your Kingdom Come, Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven. We say, well,
where is our earth? We say, right here in Southeast Texas.
We have people at our church that come from all

(35:22):
over Southeast Texas, not just Beaumont, Lumberton, but many different communities.
So we said, so Southeast Texas. So we exist to
bring Heaven down to our part of the earth, which
is Southeast Texas. And so what we say now is
is we say in Southeast Texas as it is in heaven.

(35:43):
And so as we begin to use that as.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
A filter.

Speaker 5 (35:47):
What we typically might think of as churches. People come
to church to be taught and then they go home
and they live their lives kind of segmented. As Dari
was talking about, how we have our people, we do
life with, we go to church with, and so on
and so forth. But that's not really how God has
called us to live our lives. And so at church,
you don't come to church to be a Christian. You

(36:08):
come to church to be equipped so you can go
out into the world and bring Heaven with you as
you go into all of your environments, your home environment,
your work environment, your you know, your hobbies that you
might you know, your pick a ball court that you
go play at, or or whatever it might be. And
so as we begin to use that as a filter,
it's this. You don't come to church to be a Christian.

(36:28):
You come to church to be equipped for every good
work that God has called you to do. And I'm
not going to preach, So I'm going to pass a
lot of these guys and let them talk a little bit,
maybe with reg is how that kind of shapes our
view of how we put together our services and how
we do our teaching times and so on and so forth.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Reg Yeah, Jesus created the church to be a change agent,
to be a blessing wherever they are look at the church,
to love their city, but also to leave their city
to influence change, whatever that is. And it seems like
a daunting task, maybe a church to influence a large
geographical area, And you're just trying to get a smart

(37:05):
plan and strategy to say, how could this really happen?
How could we make the most change with what we have?
And I don't know if there's a smarter plan than
just to equip people to first go into their homes
and bring heaven to their home. But wherever they go,
wherever you find your feet, that's where you were to
do that. I mean, we know if you'd break down,

(37:27):
we know the condition of our world, and we all
grieve over conditions of our world. But you say, what's
the world made up of? You know, continents or countries,
and you have to break countries down. What's countries made
up of? We'd say states? What states? Cities? Are counties
cities and you can break it all the way down,
but you have to get to that single unit to
say where do we start. That unit is within an individual,

(37:49):
within a family, so we want to start there. But
wherever a person goes, we believe that they are as
a follower of Jesus, as someone who is adherent to
his principles, effect change in a good way.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
Yeah, well, to.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
Love and to leade, you know, in that area. So
I think it is the smartest approach and it allows
us to know where to to invest our resources, the
limited resources that we have, and that is to help
every individual at praise be effective wherever they go starting
at home, but like Scott said, at work in the gym,

(38:28):
Lamar exceon to be that person that Gus has envisioned
that we would be from the very beginning.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
I love that, and I love that this past semester
the way you've been teaching on that that it is
to equip us to go. And it's not just to
be at church. Okay, I checked the box. I came
to church on Sunday. No, it's to be equipped on Sunday,
to be in wherever you are, wherever your feet go,
exactly what you said. In my job and my family,

(38:57):
in the events that I participate in to do that.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
So we had to follow up the question and say
what would it look like for an individual to be equipped?
And this is not like like a right answer, there
is just the answer we came up with. But Azarian
spoke to how do we help people defend their faith
or its hot topic issues today that traditionally have been
held by the church but now being challenged by the world,

(39:21):
and how do we how do we have a compelling answer,
not not just to win the argument, but how to
show this is really best for humanity and God set
it up to be this way. How can we communicate that?
So apologetics is one of those relationships. How to be
a good father, How how to have a loving, lasting marriage.
It's so difficult, you know, we're all we're all in that.

(39:45):
How to be an influence at work? So you look
at relationships apologetics, What about your doctrine? What do you
really believe? And do you understand what you believe? I mean,
who is God? Who is Jesus, who's the only spirit?
What's salvation all about? How do you obtain sal It's
important for people to and we say equipped, to be
equipped with these tools so that they can have an

(40:07):
effective faith. So those are just some of the areas
that we're looking at of trying to be better at
teaching and making sure people have that in their toolbox.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
Yeah, because people are going to ask you when they
know that you're a believer, They're going to ask you questions.
And you don't have to have all the answers. I
certainly don't. But when you're able to respond in a
way that is loving and meaningful from the equipping that
you've received from those at your church or in your
small group, that's where Christ gets shared and that's where

(40:38):
change happens in your sphere, because those are the people
that we can impact. It's just so people right around
me in my sphere, those people I love, that I
work with, that I know, and so to be equipped
is critical for me to be able to do that.
And so that's what I love that on Sunday mornings.
I do that on Sunday mornings. But it's not just
Sunday mornings. It's small group, it's being engaged in the

(41:00):
word yourself. And so thank you each for all that
you do to equip those to do that. Now let's
wrap up by talking about again the services, the times,
the place, and then the website. If people want more information, yea.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
Sunday services at nine and eleven. The address is eighty
one fifty North Major Drive. What was some of the.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
