Speaker 1 (00:01):
Well, happy Saturday. I hope you're enjoying this day and
have lots of fun planned. Hey, first football, college football
going on today, So that's exciting. Even though it's not
in our country, it is exciting that we have a
little college football that's happening. And then next week the
big day. It's a big day at my house college
game Day starts. Let me just say, Saturday's at our

(00:25):
house with college game Day has always been so much fun.
We turn it on early, we watch it all day.
We're just a family of football. And so I hope
that you guys are excited for the upcoming season of football,
that first game Texas and Ohio or either of you
football fans.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yes I'm not, but I hope to one day be.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Well, let me tell you it is. It's a lot
of fun.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
You know.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
When I became a football fan is when I became
a mom of a son. And if you want to
connect with your kids, you need to know what they
like and connect. And so even now, even though my
son's grown and has his own children, he's asking me, Okay,
we getting together for college game Day. We're going to connect,
We're going to grill. You know, it's just a connection

(01:15):
is really what it's all about. So I hope you're
enjoying this Saturday. But I have some great guests that
are here on our show today. You heard a little
bit from them. Shot A Chick is the director of
Port Affairs at the Port of Beaumont. She's going to
give us an update on what's going on over there.
So excited to hear that. Let me just tell you,
we are so blessed to have the Port of Beaumont here.

(01:37):
They do so much for our area. They produce so
much and bring just tons of great tools to our
industry and to so many different things that happen here.
So we're going to talk about how they impact economic
development and all the things that they produce. So you
don't want to miss that. Also with me Lane Wilson

(01:59):
of blueth Thin Pools and Spindle Top Builders, thinking about
building a house putting in a pool, Lanes gotcha covered.
He's going to talk about all the things that they do,
how they do it, and maybe you just need a
pool cleaner. He has someone who can help you with
that too. You know, finding someone to maintain that pool
every month is super important because if I have a

(02:19):
pool or when I did have a pool, I want
to just go sit in the backyard and look at
the pool. I don't want to be cleaning it, and
I want it cleaned every time I go in the
backyard to sit and look at the pool. So it's
nice to have someone who can maintain that for you.
Before we get into all of that, though, I wanted
to give you a little bit of an update about
what's going on in the market. I know we've been
talking about that it is a little softer, but I

(02:40):
thought i'd give you some specific data in July of
twenty twenty two. August isn't finished, so we don't have
the August date data yet, but I do have the
July twenty twenty five data, so I want to compare
it year over year to July of twenty twenty two.
So when we look at July of twenty twenty two,

(03:02):
we had a total of fourteen hundred active listings and
we had an average days on market of sixty four
with only four months of inventory. So houses in the
summer of twenty two were selling at a much faster pace,
and they were actually selling for a little bit more money.

(03:24):
Our average sold price in twenty twenty two was two
hundred and sixty seven thousand dollars. The market has softened
a bit. The prices in the upper end have come down,
and so our average sales price has gone from two
sixty seven in July of twenty two to two thirty
four in July of twenty twenty five, so a pretty

(03:46):
significant change in the last three years where we have
the average price. Also, the days on market has gone
up considerably from sixty four days on market in twenty
two two, so you could plan on your house being
on the market a couple months to average days on
market right now is right about ninety nine, so a

(04:08):
little over three months now. In some price points, it's
much higher than that. Some price points are seeing eleven
months of inventory. This is an average of all of
the price points. But if you're interested in getting specifics
on your price point, let us know. While I'm averaging
these all together from location to price point, it's really

(04:30):
critical that you get the data individually for your neighborhood,
for your price range, for your city, so let us
help you do that. You can call four O nine
eight sixty six eight three two six and one of
our agents will answer that call for you. We are
open to answer those calls Monday through Sunday eight to

(04:50):
eight and would be happy to assist you. You're always
going to get a real person for nine eight sixty
six eight three two six, or visit us on our website,
Dana Simmons real estate dot com. We would love to
be able to connect with you and see if we
can help you. So any specific questions about the market,

(05:11):
give us a call. These are kind of some broad
some broad data, but just to give you an insight
into what's going on, I'm going to introduce you to
our guests and let them tell you a little bit
about them. Shaw Day Chick has been with the Port
of Beaumont for a little bit and Shawday very active
in our community. People I'm sure have heard about you

(05:32):
know who you are, but for those that maybe don't
tell everyone a little bit about you.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Sure, thanks for having me today. I'm always excited to
be here. My name's Shade Chick. I'm the director of
Corporate Affairs at the Port of Beaumont. I've been there
about nine years, lived into Southeast Texas about thirteen years,
and I love it. I consider myself the president of
the fan club for soaxas Southeast Texas, if there was
one specifically Beaumont. I have two girls, my husband and I.

(05:58):
We both grew up in Maine, but we here a
little while ago, and we love it so much. We
created a website called things that Do in SETX dot com,
so we want everyone to love it as much as
we do. I love my job at the Port of Beaumont.
I love everything about our community, the things to do.
I love what you do with your radio show and
making sure people know what's going on. And I love

(06:19):
our chickens and our bees. And one day I have
this dream of hopefully owning a flower shop, antique store,
all the things place.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
So my retirement goal.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Well, let me tell you what it is super cool.
And I was not able to get out to your
place for Lemonade Day, but I saw pictures and the
Chamber Chamber of Commerce has a lemonade Day and your
girls participated in that. That's just one of the so
many things Sea day. You were involved in so many things.
But when you talk about your chickens and your bees

(06:53):
and your flowers, I think about that because I saw
the post of all the beautiful things out there that
you guys are grown. I mean, does that take a
lot of work.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
You know, we're really good at maximizing impact with minimal
effort when possible. So like with flowers, I choose inias
because they don't need so much care that I'm constantly
having to be there and watching over them.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
And that's my kind of flower. Yeah, same with kind.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Of the activities we do and the things we get involved,
and we make sure that we can be attentive enough
and still pay attention to everything else that's going on,
all the hundreds of events going on in Southeast Texas
we want to participate in and all those things. But
it does take some time, but it's kind of like
a therapy being around bees and flowers and nature.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Well, Xenia's I'm gonna have to try those because I'm
you know, I'm the one that ordered the fake flowers
from Amazon to stick in my little planner in my
front yard because I kept killing it. And my husband's like,
you cannot keep spending money on flowers that you were killing.
So Ellis was really sad when I hurt those fake
flowers in my front planter because I can't keep things alive,

(07:58):
so I haven't tried sea.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yes, you love them. The more you cut them, the
more they want to grow. Okay, it's amazing.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
I'm gonna have to head on over and find me
some of those and saw that. Yeah, So on the chickens,
do you get lots of eggs? I bet you have
a hundred people asking you for fresh eggs? Do you
sell them?

Speaker 3 (08:14):
We kind of just give them to people who ask.
And my memory isn't what it used to be, so
I just give him to whoever.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Whoever says that they're out of eggs, they get some eggs.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
So sweet.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
My husband does honey from the bees, so he has
a bunch of that around the house. We have all
sorts of random things. It's like living in an apothecary.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
I love that. And what a great way for your
girls to grow up seeing all of that, participating in
all of that. So just love it. Can't wait to
hear about what's going on at the port, and so
we'll get to that in our next segment, but also
at this lane, Wilson Lane, tell us a little bit
about you.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah, thank you for having me. As you mentioned Mayane,
we just got back from Maye. We'd loved it. We
had a great vacation there as well, and so I
definitely enjoyed that. But I've been morning raised in Southeast
taxas our kids at Plug for A and M. Both
kids graduated from A and M with construction science degree,
so kept it in the family. But as far as us,
we have over twenty years in the construction industry. We

(09:09):
started with spin on top builders from custom homes to kitchen,
bathroom remodels, and then we felt like there's with the
pool industry, we really felt that was a great area
to be in to grow and so about five years
ago we've started in the new gun night pools and
remodeling and so that's been a great opportunity for people

(09:32):
to really have a new pool and have it custom built.
As far as because people have had pools for so long,
you find that they need to remodel them. So that's
been a great way to really refresh, you know, someone's pool.
So but we've we've can do it. We do everything
from pool maintenance to uh uh finishing, you've replashed or

(09:55):
cool decking, all that good stuff. So but yeah, we
we we feel like that uh you know, in this
day with the hot weather and all that you have
a lot of wear on equipment, so we can replace
equipment as well as if somebody needs to extend a patio.
We have some situations where somebody wanted a new patio
earlier in the year and we were able to build

(10:16):
a new patio, remodel the kitchen, and redo their pool.
So it's kind of a you know and all the
all the respect.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
So you were saying that you grew up here.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Yeah, born and raised, yes, oh yeah, graduate.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
From Lamar okay, and so I know you still are
in bou mind still here. That's something I mean, still
have a home here in Beaumaint.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Love.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
That's something that I really love when when we're talking
about contractors and people that we work with, it's so
critically important that we know who we're choosing to do
the work on our homes. You know, that is so easy.
And we'll get into this and in a few segments
to talk about how choosing someone out of the area

(10:56):
and then you never see them again. So I love
that you're a South these Texas Beaumont person. You've been
here and you're a part of our community, and so
thank you for being here. We're going to get more
into what you do and how you do it in
another segment. But I just love having you both here
to kind of talk about what you love about our
area because I think that's so critically important. So when

(11:16):
we come back, Shadah is up. She's going to talk
to us about the port. And let me say, it
is so interesting if you think, oh, port stuff, No,
it is so cool all that they're doing, so you
don't want to go away. I'm right back. This is
the Dana Simmons Show. Welcome back. This is Dana Simmons
and I am joined by shaw Da Chick with the

(11:37):
Director of Affairs with the Port of Beaumont and shaw Day.
As I said in the previous segment, there is so
much going on at the port, So first I'd like
for you to just tell everyone why is the port
so important? Here?

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Sure, so the port is important. All ports important because
there are two main goals are economic development and job creation.
So while the function of port is to move cargo,
that's what everyone kind of associates with, the goal, that's
not quite the goal.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
That's part of the goal. It gets us to the.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Goal of creating jobs in our community and promoting economic growth,
and we do that through infrastructure investment, through the movement
of cargo, through helping support industries, and it helps overall
with the development of our area. So there's over forty
billion dollars in an ounce industrial projects along our waterway,
and a lot of those projects move their cargo through
the port for construction of those facilities because we have

(12:30):
heavy lift capabilities. So there's a lot of different things
we're tied to. So most of our goals and most
of our efforts go back to those two things, job
creation and economic development. And so one way you can
see economic development at work is we have four hundred
million dollars on our capital Improvement program, so that's twenty
two projects that'll go towards infrastructure improvement right in our community.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Amazing.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
It's amazing.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
And those jobs that help with that growth, they're created
and sustained and then they can move to other parts
of the region if needed if they're temporary, or stay
if they're permanent. And it's just a really beautiful thing
to watch all these things come together. But that's what
Southeast Texas is known for, that collaboration and that cohesiveness,
and that's kind of what you see at the port too.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
On a smaller level, and our port is one of
the top ports in the United States.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
It is it's the seventh largest in terms of tonnage,
and it's the number one strategic military outload port in
the US.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
So that's like unbelievable. It is number one in the US.
That is crazy. That's something to be proud of in
Southeast Texas. So when people say, hey, I saw all
these planes flying over, I saw all these helicopters flying over.
We get that a lot, But what do that?

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Yeah, what that is is that's an exercise.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
So just like you go to the gym and make
sure you're a fit that you long term will meet
your health goals, you're going to the gym doing those
sorts of things. That's what all these groups have to
do to They have to make sure they can respond quickly,
do it in the right way, and that they're prepared.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
And so it's a preparedness drill.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Yeah, so a little bit about what's going on currently
at the port. Tell me what you have. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
So one of my favorite areas is workforce development and
that ties back to that job creation component. So about
five years ago, we were approached with as a group
of maritime professionals through the Southeast Texas Waterway Advisory Council.
They're essentially the guardians of the waterway. It's a harbor
safety committee. They keep things safe along our waterway, which
is really important. And they basically said, we don't really

(14:26):
have a workforce pipeline for maritime in the area, even
though there's so many jobs.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Available and opportunities.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
So we got to work and we said, we're going
to develop an educational resource for every level of education
pre K to postscrad And there was already a master's
program in place, and then a program at lamar Ce College, Orange,
which is insanely wonderful. Both are, but there was no linkage.
There was no direct pathway to get people. There no
introductory level courses or information. So we created a coloring

(14:55):
book that we can bring into daycares. We got with
the Beaumont Children Museum and we have this beautiful not
tying display that students anyone individuals.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
It's very low barrier.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
They can go in learn how to tie knots, and
they learn how to tie the knots by scanning these
QR codes that link to our sea scouts who are
tying the knots and what that program is. I'm skipping
a little bit, but this is at the high school level.
Students ages fourteen to twenty can enter Sea Scouts and
it's a maritime branch of Scouting. Ours is called Sea
Scout Ship nineteen sixteen. And the port sponsors participation. So

(15:30):
if a student, any student, homeschool, bisD, Neederlin, Lumberton, prot Arthur,
if they say I want to participate in this, they
reach out to the Port of Beaumont. You can email
info at POBTX dot com.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Okay, well that's so good. Let's slow it down. So
time so they because I was going to even write
that down and I'm like, whoa, what does she just saying?
So slow that down and tell me again. If they
have interest where they need to.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Go info at POBTX dot com. Just email that and
we'll send you some information. We'll cover the cost of registration, uniforms,
most of the.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Costs of participate in this group. Is so cool.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
They have sailboats that they learn how to sail. They
also refurbish them and help work on them with the
help of Donald Hearn, who's the commodore of three Rivers
and he's amazing, So are the people who run at
the willets, and they have all these different skills. They're
all scuba certified, patty certified, they have marksmanship certifications, they

(16:34):
earn leadership skills, and all of these kind of tie
together into a package that when they go into the workforce,
if they get to the highest level, it's the equivalent
of Eagle scale of premire time. But they're looked upon favorably.
But when they go into the workforce, especially in maritime,
and they're looking for those jobs, but there's other areas too,
We're really doing a lot of different things, and I'll

(16:56):
kind of just hit the high notes, but there's twenty
five efforts and fives ago there were only five resources,
so we've built that out. One of our favorite programs
is bisd's maritime program. Their instructors are wonderful, so is
their Career and Technical Education team. But as part of
that program, they get I guess that would be considered
not preferential, but they get access to a potential port

(17:19):
internship for one student a year, and then if they're interested,
there's a program called the pall Hall Center for Maritime
Training in Piney Point, Maryland, and if.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
They're interested in going.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
We'll help them with the pre application costs, so we'll
help them get their twitcard, their passport, their US Coast
Guard physical, and then if they apply and they're accepted,
will help pay for them to go to Piney Point, Maryland.
Once they're in that program, it's about eighteen months, but
they're paid to be there, so they are paid five
to eight thousand dollars a month and then a home company. Yeah,
it's crazy, so amazing.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
How many people apply for this.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
I don't know how many total, but we're committed to
sending at least four who are interested each year.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
It's so great that but you know what, who thinks
about this? Though? As a parent, would I have ever
thought about Yes, did not know that this was a
thing to be able to help guide either my kids
or other kids that I know who don't know what
they want to do into a career that's really good

(18:22):
and makes really good money and that there's a need for.
And so the Sea Scouts is one place that they
can begin. And when you talk about the programs that
are at Westbrook, they can also do some of these
though homeschool you said, so you don't have to be
at Westbrook.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
So Sea Scouts they could do as homeschool Westbrook and
bu feed the maritime program, okay, And so we're really
trying to help them build that out too. We want
them to have as many access to as many opportunities
as possible and as many people, so we want them
to be able to grow their network through that program.
But the homeschool students, most of our our Sea scoutship

(19:01):
is comprised of homeschool students right now, and they're really great.
They help us with volunteer efforts and the community on
a regular basis, and they're really present and willing to
get involved. And we realize from that that one of
our major barriers is getting this information to parents, counselors, teachers.
So our hope eventually is to do a monthly activity
out at the Port Arthur Yacht Club where the community

(19:23):
invited to go sailing with some of the representatives from
these groups.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
So come, it's a free event, we'll go sailing.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
We will show you what this is all about, show
you the opportunities that exist, how to get your students involved,
and hopefully that will lead to us being able to
set up maritime clubs within some of these schools where
there's a higher level of interest, and so we see
that there's educator there are educators who are interested in
moving these efforts forward. Now we're just trying to connect
all the dots, so we're trying to make that pipeline

(19:50):
a little less leaky.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Yeah, because it is such an incredible opportunity that you
do want to open it up to as many as possible,
but I realize your resources are limited and and so
it's going to have to grow over time. Yeah. So
you said, if someone's interested, the organization is Sea Scouts
nineteen sixteen.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Yes, c Scoutship nineteen sixteen. And again they can email
that info at POBTX dot com and we can direct
them to the right person to fill out that application.
And that's male and female students ages fourteen to twenty.
So we're really excited about these programs. We think there's
a lot of growth potential. But like you said, the
main goal is awareness right now. So the whole objective

(20:37):
behind setting up this subcommittee, this workforce subcommittee, was to
make sure people know what exists in our community they
might leave for the job or to go to Paul
Hall Center for Maritime Training, they'll come out with a
job on a ship that goes around the world, but
they can come back here one day and use those skills. Yeah,
and so that's what we're hoping to see from all
of these different programs would put together.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
Wow. I mean, I'm just thinking about the opportunity to
be able to go and do that, get paid, and
then to be able to tour the whole world all
most I mean, you're getting paid to see the world.
I think what an incredible opportunity for some students to
be able to do that. And I think that we've

(21:20):
got to get this word out so that our local
kids can understand the opportunities that are there. And you
said info at pob t X. And for those of
you who are having trouble understanding what we're saying, pob
Port of Beaumont, so info at pob t X dot com.

(21:42):
Send an email there. They can respond back to you
and get you the information needed. If you see shot A,
she has a wonderful little print out that she can
also give you of all kinds of different information on that.
She's involved in so many organizations in Southeast Exes, so
you can probably run into her about that as well,

(22:02):
shout ay, all of that's so good. We'll come back
and wrap it up at the end and let you
do that again, give us a little more information at
the end of the show. But thank you so much.
This is such a great opportunity. We really do want
to get this out to the public so that we
can get some of our students connected in such a
way that benefits them lifelong.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Really, And if you want to meet the Sea Scouts
stop i BSc Stemnight, best event in Southeast Texas. If
you want to get involved and understand STEM at a
higher level.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
It's wonderful, wonderful. And what is that? That is November
early November.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Okay, we'll get We'll try to find out date and
we'll confirm that in one of our next segments. That
sounds good. Well, when we come back, we're going to
shift gears. And while we're talking about water at the port,
we're going to talk about water in your backyard. So
we will speak with Lane Wilson next. Don't go away.
This is the Dana Simmons Show. Welcome back. We just

(22:57):
finished visiting with shot A Chick, director of Port Affairs
at the Port of Beaumont. And if you miss that segment,
you need to go back and listen to it. We
will have this podcast on the iHeart Media website in
the next couple of days. And let me just tell
you what great information about sea scouts and all that's
going on at the port and career opportunities that are amazing.

(23:21):
So go take a peek at that and get some
information you can if you want information, go to info
at pob Texas dot com. With us now is Lane Wilson,
and he is the owner of Bluefin Pools as well
as Spindletop Builders and Lane, you and I originally connected

(23:41):
when we were voting. Yes, we were in the line
to go vote and just started talking and that's how
I initially met you, which is so interesting because we've
both been in Southeast Texas forever, absolutely, and it's funny
how sometimes you cross paths or I've heard of you
and I know who you are, but I had never
met you personally. So it's great to have you here

(24:03):
and have you talk a little bit about the companies
that you work for, So blue Fin Pools, talk a
little bit about how that got started and what exactly
is it that you do at Blue Fenn Pools.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
Yes, no, thank you for blue Fen pools. As far
as getting started, we'd already been we've already been in
construction for over twenty years and just looked at the
opportunity to extend what we'd already been doing for folks
in the area. And so probably about five or six
years ago we started and is forced into building custom
good night swimming pools and it just really has done

(24:40):
real well for us. We were able to give a
three D design of ideas for folks whether they want
to out or kitchen or itself, or extend their patio
or also a you know, of course a swimming pool,
whether it's a free form pool or rectangle pool, and
we can a hot tub or or had a hot

(25:02):
tub or whichever with that. So we've been excited about
that because I think it's it's not it's not really
just about the pool. It's about the maintenance the service
of the pool itself. Because you have a lot of
people in Southeast Texas have had pools. There's over five
thousand or more pools in this in the Southeast Texas area.
So as people have had those pools and they've aged

(25:22):
for a long time, they may need to have it
replashed or have their deck refinished. So we're here to
you know, take care of those type of needs for people.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
I love that you started as a builder first, Yes.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
Yeah, and it was just something that we'd looked into before.
And I think, like anything else, you take baby steps
to doing that, but just felt it was a good
opportunity as we have for as you with the housing
market itself. I think that was one of the leads
that we saw that the way the market was kind
of changing a little bit, the dynamics that we wanted
to make sure we were diversified more, and it really

(25:53):
just you know, took off and it kind of bounces
out everything we do, you know overall.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Yeah, especially here in Southeas, Texas, as a pool is
such a wonderful tool to have because we can swim
almost year round. Yes, absolutely, and so the benefit and
I think when you started it is probably a really
good time during COVID, right, is when people are like, hey,
we need some activities to do at home. And that

(26:18):
the market really shifted a lot, yes during COVID, into
people wanting in ground pools, outdoor kitchens, entertainment that they
could do at home because so many of us were
required to be home exactly exactly, and your kids are
looking at you and going, what are we going to do?

Speaker 4 (26:37):
Yeah, well, and you're right. As far as for South
East Texas, you know, it's a great because we have
we have hot summers and people want to enjoy the pool.
One of the things that I think is really stand
came out from that as far as billiing pools is
that people traditionally just think of a pool and they
have if they have a hot tub with it, then
you have a heater. But one of the things that

(26:57):
we've really has really caught a trend more so is
a chiller for their pool so they can actually heat
the pool. I mean chill the pool from ninety eight
degrees to eighty eight degrees.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
That's first I've heard of that.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
Oh yeah, So it's just wonderful. And so we've really
make that an opportunity for people, whether they want to
do it on the new build or in a remodel,
to make sure they have room on their equipment pad,
you know, to add that later if they wanted to.
But you know, as we have our hot summers, it's
your pools can be like a bathtub at some point

(27:29):
at some point, and so it's not, you know, too
crazy to add that to existing pool. But obviously for
a new pool, we can integrate that, you know, right
off the bat.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
And I like that you brought up about integrating it
into an already built pool. You know, one of the
things that as I'm selling houses, we're looking at pools
that are twenty years old and they are starting to deteriorate,
maybe not just the equipment, but also the coping and
the good night and all of that. So those are

(28:01):
things that we often talk about. Okay, well we can
refinish that pool. What what is that like if someone
calls you and says, hey, we want to redo this pool,
what is kind of the time frame? What is required
if someone wanted to do that.

Speaker 4 (28:16):
Yeah, I'm glad you asked. It's really pretty pretty simple.
Uh will come out and take a per perimeter measurement
of the pool, and with that measurement, we can give
them a quote on their replashing the pool tile and
coping and even on the deck. We usually try to
an encompass of measuring everything. That way, you know, the

(28:37):
customers in the driver's seat of what they want to do,
and they'll have a breakdown of the individual pricing so
they can make the best decision of how much they
want to do at that point in time.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
So you're ontomizing what it was exactly after surface, what
it is if you decide to do new decking correct.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
And as far as the time pime to that, typically
the turnaround that on that from if you were doing
a complete remodel from tile coping and replaster would be
about probably two weeks for a replaster itself would be
about a week overall time all. No, it's not bad.
And we do include the balancing of the pool. A
lot of people when they come into a replaster, they

(29:14):
don't include balancing the chemicals. Obviously you're putting fresh water,
so we include that as part of our deal, just
to make sure you have a complete startup.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
So if you're thinking about redoing your pool and redoing
the backyard, you can handle all of that. If someone
wants to add an outdoor kitchen, they want to add
a pavilion, an outdoor fireplace, you can come out and
bid the whole thing correct.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
Absolutely, and we and typically we can do a three
D rendering. We have designers that can do a three
D rendering. Of their backyard and to show that you
know how that would work for them, And it's exactly right.
If they want to extend their back their patio covering
as well as integrate that with a pool whichever they
need at that point, we can fit that in for them.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
And really with you having spindle top builders, you can
build from the ground up, yes, and have the pool
in all.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Yeah. Absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
If you're thinking about building a house, uh, connecting with
you to say, okay, let's look at your plans, see
where a pool will fit. You can do all of
it at one time.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
Yeah. Absolutely, And and and on one of those situations
it's good because you can uh work to see the
electrical gas where that to be the most cost efficient
placement for that with the pool to help save some
money in that regard to and so as.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
A builder, where where will you go to build? I
have people ask me that all the time. They're like, oh,
will they go to Fred? Will they go? How far
out will you go to build?

Speaker 4 (30:41):
Yeah, we've actually we've just completed a house up the
lake and Rayburn, so you know we've we'll go I
guess basically that that distance you know, Yeah, so yeah,
the lake or look at refinishing some pools up the
lake as well at this time too.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
So okay. And then if someone is thinking, you know,
I don't need a new house, but I need this
house I'm in to look new right and I want
to remodel it a little bit. Do they have to
have all their own ideas or do you.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
No, not at all. Absolutely. I think that's I think
sometimes people get overwhelmed so so quickly because there's so
many decisions to be made. But I think with our
team of folks that we can help guide them in
the best way possible to you know, narrow down those
those those designs choices.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
That's helpful because I know sometimes years ago when I
decided to remodel a house, we had Wow. I love
numbers and data. I'm really good with all of that,
but I am not a designer.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
It's overwhelming. I mean, I think it's really overwhelming, even
on a pool. I mean, we're doing one right now,
and I think for you know, some folks, it's overwhelming
because you want to make the right choice. So you're
spending a lot of money and you want to make
sure you've you know, it's kind of a not really
one shot deal, but it kind of is. On some
of those things you put in you don't want to
make a mistake. I mean, you know, we just finished
a pool recently, and the uh, the folks after we

(32:03):
tiled the pool, he said, I don't like it, you know,
And so I mean, you hope to minimize some of
those uh you know, those issues like that or are
those mistakes that can happen. So we try to have
some of that pre thinking before we get to those
points on any project.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
And that's why you hire people. That's why I have Lisa.
She's my stager and designer that goes listen. It's a
gift to her. But don't ask her to do numbers.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
Yeah, so we all have her place.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
She and I balance each other. She's really good with
the design and all of that, and I'm really good
with the numbers and the data. So I love having
Lisa in my life. So well, that is such great news.
I love all that information. If someone needed to get
in touch with you, they wanted to, you know, talk
to you about some of these things, how would they
do that?

Speaker 4 (32:46):
Yeah, they could call as far as for zero nine eight, seven, seven,
four one five one as forced for Bluefined Pools and
then for spell Top Builders for zero nine, seven, eight, two,
eighty one, seventy and have websites for both of those.
For Bluefinn Pools it's Bluefinnpools Texas dot com okay, and

(33:07):
then spinll Toppilders dot com for those and we have
full website that they get it, you know, inquire and
see some of the work we've done as well.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
That's great, so go to the website. Do you also
have Facebook pages?

Speaker 4 (33:19):
Yes, Facebook, Google have all those sources, you know, and
if anybody had a question they could always email, you know,
email us as well.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
Yeah. So Bluefinpools and Spindle Top Builders, those are two
places you can go to achieve your either building remodeling
and getting you a new full pool or refinishing an
old one. So it's been so good having you on
the show. Lane, We'll come back and in just a
minute we're going to wrap it up, so don't go away.
This is the Dana Simmons Show. Welcome back. This is

(33:49):
Dana Simmons and we have been visiting with Lane Wilson.
Lane has Bluefin Pools and Spindle Top Builders and Lane,
as we were talking in the break we were talking
a little bit about the fact that sometimes the vision
is hard for people to grasp when you're going to
build a pool or when you're going to build a house.
Sometimes trying to picture that can be challenging and be

(34:10):
able to be able to identify what you need to do,
how big it needs to be. What are some of
the ways that you can help people be able to
see what it is that they'll have once they're completed.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
I think the first step is really, you know, showing
them a three D design of the either of the projects,
because I think if you from paper to something visual,
it makes a big difference. And so I think with
that that's really the first step and really going through
some of the fundamental processes of as as far as

(34:43):
with the pool, we typically will stake that out in
the backyard to get some distances, and also with each
each city has some constraints on boundaries and so to
make sure that this pool they want to build will
fit in the.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Backyard and oddly important.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Yeah, so that's kind of a first step there, and
so really try to give some different designs and make
sure that they are comfortable. Because you hear a lot
of Rhetorica's for as whether it's Google or whichever on
the Internet of hey, I have a rectangle pool or
a free form pool or whatever, and try to share
both those ideas and pricing with the folks so they
have a can make a better decision. And then also

(35:22):
I think just talking about which you didn't mention earlier,
is for as time frame, because a lot of times
people want to have something sooner than later. Yeah, and
so I think as far as given really realistic expectation
of whether it's to remodel a kitchen and bathroom or
to build a house, or to to build a pool
or remodel and so to really really give some really
tighter timelines, you know, within in that regard, you know,

(35:45):
for the for the consumer.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Yeah, real expectations, so important to do that. Yeah. And
then we were talking to Shade and I about, you know,
how do you come up with all the designs and
different ideas about finding something that you focus on, so
lots of things that you can bounce ideas off with
you guys, to try to come up with that. Also
wanted to just bring it back here to all the

(36:08):
things that are going on in Beaumont now shade. One
of the things that while you are the Port of
Beaumont Director of Port Affairs, you were so actively involved
in what's going on in Southeast Texas. But you also
have a website where where people can go and if
people say, hey, there's nothing to do, no, you have
a place for them to go to find those things.

(36:29):
So tell us a little bit about that. Sure.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
So on the port side, we do offer tours to groups.
So if you're a group and you'd like to come
in and do a tour, get with us. We'll help
schedule that, like school groups or church groups, different things
like that. And then for the website, it's things to
do in setx dot com and we my family and
I we add every community event we can find.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
We don't ask that of any group.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
We know that these small businesses have enough going on,
so we try to be proactive in adding it. And
there are over one hundred events every single week in
Southeast Texas, most of them free, and some of our
favorites are every Saturday, there's free yoga at Cattail Marsh.
You get to be in this beautiful setting and you
go through this relaxing experience. Then you can go to
the Botanical Garden also free.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
The Hotel Marsh is so amazing. If you haven't been there,
you don't even have to go to do the yoga.
If you don't want to do the yoga, just go
take a walk.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
It's done in rare coffee.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Oh so amazing.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
And the sunset's pure gold. This is like sunset capital
of the world. I feel like we should market that.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
And then the Beaumont Library System, my gosh, they have
like a dozen events throughout the week and they're so cool.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
They have these spice parties and they have games you
can play and different things. And then big ticket.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
They have free canoe trips most weekends or maybe a
couple of weekends a month, and I think they have
won this coming weekend. There's a lot of different things
you can look at. Then we have these beautiful music venues.
There's live music every single week, every single night in
Southeast Texas, and on that website there's a specific live
music calendar because there's so much live music in our community.

(38:03):
Our favorite place, one of our favorite places is Seven
Oaks Event Gardens, so cool.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
It's just this beautiful garden.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Space and listening room, and then there's a really neat
event on I think it's Saturday or Sunday of this weekend.
It's at Teluka Trades about the Jewish heritage and history
and Beaumont like really unique things happening here. Mcfadd and
Wardhouse has free lectures. Logon has a cool thing happening
every night. They even have a bee Keepers Club meeting

(38:29):
every month.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Wow, I know it's all these.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Texas is the coolest place to get involved in solo
barrier because everyone is so willing to offer these things
mostly at no cost, and then you have some moderate
costs but or like medium, but it's still worth it.
And one of our favorite places for just learning new
things the Art Studio. I mean, they have all sorts
of different things they are teaching every single week, and

(38:52):
they have i think it's a summer spree this weekend
where you can buy local art and things that have
been crafted and really support local and that's what this
community is all about. And we're hoping that this website
helps people do that more easily.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
And tell us the website again.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Things to do in se t X dot com.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
Not hard to remember, No, just things to do in
se t X dot com that's.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Easy to make it simple.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
It does, it is, it does well. Thank you guys
so much for coming today. If someone needs to get
in touch with you about any of this shot a,
how would they reach out. That's the info at Yeah.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
If it's port related, info at pob t X dot com.
And if it's things to do in Southeast Texas, you
can go through the website. There's a contact form, or
you can just contact me on social media. There's things
to do in Southeastexas this month where we post events
from the month. And then there's also a page that's
evergreen and just has things you can do on a
regular basis.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Okay, so that is on Facebook, yes, and and Instagram. Okay, great,
that's so good. Didn't know that was there.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
I'm not always so active on it.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
So if you see a pause, I feel crazy because
it's kind of my fun thing.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
Yeah. Well, it's because you have two children and you're
involved in an awful lot. I love all of that
and the port tour. You know, you were talking about
organizations and your churches or whatever, but you know, I
want to do that with my team. I want to
do that in my office. I want them to see
all the things that are there and be able because

(40:23):
we're we're selling Southeast Texas and so to see the
benefit of all that. So I'm gonna get with you
and we're gonna.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
We'll play Maritime Jeopardy too.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
I really love that. Just give me some of the
insight before so I look a little smart spoilers, and
also thank you Lane. Lane Wilson with Blue Fin Pools
and Spindle Top Builders, appreciate you being here and being
a part of the show. If you have any questions
for Lane, how would they get a hold of you?

Speaker 4 (40:48):
Yeah, for Blue Finn Pools four zero nine eight seven
seven four one, and then for small top Builders four
zero nine seven eight two eighty one seventy and.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
Then they can google you. They can find you anywhere.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
At Google, face Book, all those wonderful sources to get
big from.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
And you do the same thing with me. So anyone
wants to buy or sell in real estate or just
have questions, listen, my job is to educate for everyone.
It's not the right time and there's no way I
want to push you either way. But what I do
love to do is give you the information you need
to make a decision. You feel confident about whether it
is now or it is later. So if you want

(41:24):
to just sit down and chat and have a conversation
about anything, I've had people call me and say, hey,
I'm thinking about investing in real estate. What does that
look like? Well, I, of course invest in real estate.
So I'm going to give you some information on what
you need to do to prepare, places you can go
to get connected with a lender, what that looks like,
and what you can expect setting expectations. Just like what

(41:45):
Lane was saying about setting expectations with clients, we like
to do the same thing. Just set those expectations of
what you can see happening. So give us a call
four oh nine eight six six eight three two six
that's four nine team, Or you can go to the
website Danasimmons realestate dot com. We are on social media

(42:07):
and Instagram as well, En Chade. That's not my job
because let me just tell you what it takes other people.
We were talking before the show about that technology side.
I love technology. I do what I need with it,
but then there's other stuff. So my daughter is the
one who's handling that right now. So you can find
us on Instagram and Facebook. Thank you. Tonay. Hope you

(42:28):
guys are having a great Saturday. We will see you
again next week. This is Dana Simmons with the Dana
Simmons Show.
