In my early twenties, I workedas an assistant at a funeral home
in New Haven, Connecticut. Mightsound off putting then, I'd always been

fascinated by death, but I thoughtworking in a funeral home would be a
good way to learn more about it. I ended up learning more about the
strange and sometimes macab nature of thejob. One day, my boss and
I were preparing for a funeral andhad begun placing the body in the casket.
We were working in the back roomand we were both alone. We

heard a scream A few minutes afterleaving the room to tend to other tasks.
We looked at each other as ourhearts started racing. The noise came
again, and this time it waslouder. It sounded like someone was trying
to claw their way out of thecasket. We hesitantly walked over to the

casket and opened the lid. Weboth gasped in horror as the body inside
had all black eyes. While itconvulsed. It seemed like the body had
been trying to escape the casket.The older man's mouth was open, making
him look like he was silently screaming. Didn't know what to do. We

(02:00):
just stood there, shocked and terrified. The body kept clawing at the air.
We knew we had to do something, so we grabbed the body and
helped it out of the casket,but it started digging its nails into my
arms. Even more disturbed, wethrew it onto the floor and ran out
of the room. We didn't stoprunning until we were out of the funeral

(02:23):
home. I still don't know whatcaused the body to wake up and try
to escape the casket. When wefinally re entered the room, we discovered
the body lying on the floor wherewe dropped it. Its eyes appeared entirely
normal, but there was no pulse. I wanted to call the police,

(02:43):
but my boss didn't want that forsome reason. He didn't want him to
investigate the incident. So we nevereven came close to an explanation of what
happened. We only know that somethingstrange happened that day and we were lucky
to get out of there alive.I genuinely felt like I had encountered demonic

(03:05):
activity. I know there are forcesat work in the world that we don't
understand, and I'm not going totake anything for granted. I've never told
anyone else about what happened that day. I've always felt like it was something
I should keep to myself. Maybeit's because I fear what people would think
if they knew. Perhaps it's becauseI'm afraid of what it means. Submitted
