Hey, forty e fifty five KRC detalk station, A very
happy Tuesday to you. Time to get some sound advice
and apparently we're not taking great care of our used
cars these days. Welcome back to the fifty five Carcy
Morning Show. Foreign x dot com. So where you find
Austin and the crew. It's the Westchester locations.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
One.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I always recommend to take your car, your imported car,
traditionally manufactured, whether from Asia or Europe. Get it into
the Westchester location, take their towlers and their legs. It
off seventy five head east, just two streets hanger right
on Kinglin. You'll run right into it, where you'll find
Austen and his as certified master technicians to take care
of your car and charge you a lot less. Thank
you Austin for all the money you've saved me and
(01:37):
my family over the years. How many years have been
going to see you?
Speaker 3 (01:40):
It's been a bit, definitely, it's been a bit.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, five eight years.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I don't know, it's been a while. I mean since
I think twenty twenty thirteen. Yeah, so early twenty thirteen. Good,
but more than a decade.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, time does fly, But on behalf of all the
listeners that you've helped out, I've got nothing but rave
reviews about your service and of course the price. But
it's that time of year we need to really start
can before we do your announcement. You got a special
announcement you're gonna let people know about later in the segment.
But it's that time of year. We're facing winter time.
It's barreling down faster than we really would like it
to be. And you noticed in some trends out there
(02:13):
with people coming in to get service.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, absolutely, we're finding a lot of cars that have
all kinds of suspension, vibration complaints of my car just
doesn't feel like it did before. I'm going down the highway.
It kind of feels like it's shaking and chimmying, and
we're seeing rims that are not far from square. And
it's crazy because I mean, the amount of bends in
(02:35):
the amount of rims we send out to be repaired
and the corrective action it makes to the car is
just like it's like a brand new car. It's like
you would have, you know, having bad tires that are
out around or something. You put new tires on here
and new drive away. But we're talking about you know,
rims that are creating massive vibrations and vehicles from you know,
ruining struts, ruining other suspension components, causing break shake, causing
(02:59):
all kinds of issues, and it's just you get the
car up and it's like one oh one, you know,
car out of one oh one. Somebody comes into your shop.
You're looking at the whole scope of the vehicle, especially
you know, harnessing our skills as European specialists, and you're
finding bent wheels and it's just like some cars have
just had tires put on them, you know, at some
(03:20):
different places, and I'm just like.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
And they put on it, putting the tire brim.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Brand new tire on rims that are almost square.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Well, okay, balance you get the little weights makes a balance.
That's where a shimmy can come from. It. A shimmy
could of course come from a bent rim as well.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Absolutely, How could you balance a bent rim? He has
lots of weights? Oh my god, lots of weights. We're
talking hanging, you know, massive bounces of weights on wheels
to get them to kind of true up a little bit,
or just doing the typical we have sometimes where there's
a slight bend and somebody says, hey, I don't have
the time right now, but I'm going to go on
a vacation here in a week or two. Can we
get the rim schedule for repair. And at that point
(03:57):
in time we'll say, okay, let's just shift it for
the rear. We'll put it to the rear. As long
as it's not accessibly bent. It kind of settles down
the front suspension. They come back, we get it straight,
the car's great.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Buy them a little time, but you can't overlook the
fact that you really need to replace that or have
the rim fixed. Can you can straighten out a bent rim?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Are you?
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Absolutely? Absolutely? We have. We send them out and a
lot of times we used to do it where we
didn't do the cosmetic finish, but with the cost of
things nowadays, they almost kind of throw it in, so
you get almost like a brand new looking rim. You know,
all of my loaner cars over a period of time
I've sent out just to have them cosmetically refinished, where
the rims look great. But now it's kind of like
(04:37):
the caveat is. The cost is almost the same, so
you end up with really nice looking rims on top
of really true wheels and then a car ride is
where it should be.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Okay, well, no one knows more than me the pain
that you feel when you hit a curb in a
newer or under warranty car, as mine still is in
both cases, and it's all scraped up. Now, I don't
think my rims are bent, but I do need to
see you about the shimmy. I think it's there's a
little uh uh maybe in need of a way to
balance question, because it's not pulling left or right. But
(05:08):
if your car is pulling left right, you probably need
an alignment as well. Sure, but you're gonna you can
have that rim completely refinished. It'll look brand spank and new,
and it will match exactly the factory rim. Absolutely, that's
that's great. Oh yeah, and it is within the realm
affordability I have to point Oh yeah, yes, oh yeah,
it is. It's way cheaper than rims nowadays. Oh my word,
rims are so expensive. Let us see here, we'll take
(05:30):
a break. I'll tell you, let's just take a break
a couple of seconds early, because I want more advice
on what my listeners need to do to get their
car ready for winter. I know battery is an issue,
but tires tend to come into the equation as well,
and something else that's gotten really expensive. Ay forty five.
If you've have kr city talk stations, stick right here,

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Something weird is going on because I don't know what's
true and what's not anymore. Because you can't trust the government,
you can't trust the media, you can't trust social media.
Someone with a large national megaphone needs to amplify how
bad this is. If only there was someone doing that
weekdays at nine, could you write that down? Find somebody

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Hey forty nine Here fifty five KERRCD talk station Foreign Exchange, Westchester.
Locations where you want to take your traditionally imported cars,
regardless of how unbelievably awesome they are in terms of
exotic or run of the mill, like I always loved
the joke about my Honda CRV. Austin here in Studio
Hens and Runs, Foreign Exchange, Westchester, Tylersville exit off seventy
(07:32):
five two Street. Hang a right on Kinglin you're there.
I would like to point that out. Austin getting ready
for winter. He talked about the rims, and then real
quick you can address the tires because you've got to
have tread and you've got to have the right rubber
compound of the winter time. See my friend's out there
with their summer stickies like I've got. I swapped mine
out for the winter blues Axe or alpine alpines because
(07:55):
they have the rubber compound that doesn't vulcanize in the winter,
so it get traction.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
But you got to have tread, sure, absolutely start it
all starts with tread. Tread. You even find too on
some of the tire manufacturers when they're half worn, they
almost become even though they say all season more of
a summer tire. Now. Fortunately here we aren't like northern
Ohio where we can get a lot of snow in
a very rapid amount of time. But regardless of that,
you're finding tires that are worn pretty well in the
(08:20):
rain or bad around this time of the year. We're
starting to get these things. And just in climate weather,
just the weather in general, it's always good to make
sure your tires are at least above the minimum thickness
that they need to be or be prepared. Be prepared
there's nothing worse than coming in with tires that are
below the wearbar. You have bad weather, and then somebody's like,
what am I trying to do right now? How am
(08:41):
I trying to coordinate? You know, getting these tires done immediately?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
And am I right in my observation that the price
of tires has gone up a lot?
Speaker 3 (08:50):
We do a lot, So something's going on out there.
We're not a tires store by any means at all,
but about a year ago we had a conversation about
the convenience because a lot of our customers would say, Hey,
I just don't want to go to these places. I
know I'm going to pay twenty dollars maybe more per
tire in some cases, but it's much more of a
peace of mind to have you do the tires for us.
(09:11):
Why it's here, because it's a huge convenience. In some
cases we're even cheaper, right, It's worth asking the cars absolutely, yeah.
And if you need new tires, you need new tires,
you know, whether you get it from Austin or not,
just to get the dang things. What an amazing thing
about the safety improvement. But wiper blades, of course, that's
an easy one. Yeah, they're traditional, you know, because especially
we've had a dry summer. A lot of people don't
(09:33):
realize that cars that do sit out in the sun
during the whole you know, the day. I mean, the
real interval on wiper blades, believe it or not, is
every six months. That's an actual serviceable you know, type
of recommendation that says you should have your wiper blades
replaced every six months. I usually do it nine to
twelve months. The cars will sit in the garrodge at
times so we don't see it, but on our loaner
(09:53):
cars we're always regularly checking the wiper blaze. But again
you're complacent. You don't know until that rainstorm is happening,
and then you're in a situation where they're streaky or
they're blurry and it's just a big annoyance or at night.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Not an expensive thing to get ahead of. So no, absolutely,
battery you always bring up batteries.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah, you know a lot of the cars now we're
in a generational change where there is pre alerts. Just
don't disregard them. You'll get things where a couple of
the cars and generation ago would have where you'd get
maybe a little amber warning of some sort and maybe
it'd go away, or sometimes they're white warnings and it's
just a little battery and it's not red. So we
become complacent to it. But now we have some cars
(10:33):
that are actually when we scan them, every car that
comes in, we even if it's just for a quicker
wheel change or some of that nature, we always get
all that digital data from the car and we'll have
algorithm codes. And anytime you have an algorithm code that
is voltage related, that means the battery is in a
cycle time, meaning that it's coming near its end to life,
which will where you know, which will ward off the
(10:55):
I'm stranded, you know, I'm.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Just gonna say, when it dies, you'll be it'd be
like three o'clock in them, you're out on a Saturday
night and it's in a frozen parking lot someplace.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Yeah, or your sister in law trying to come in,
who works for you. It's kind of like you a
little admin person, and you find that she has a
car that was still under a warranty. She was at
the dealer, is at the life of the end of
the warranty, and she said, can you guys check my battery?
You know, and they probably were like, well, what do
we need to check that for. Well, I had to
go and rescue her. Two days later. It's in her
(11:23):
garage and it won't start. So I just ran to
her house with a jump pack. But those are those things,
you know. It wasn't a brand that had the caveat
of the all the additional warnings or the algorithming. But
it's just kind of knowing, you know. I think in
this area traditionally batteries are three to four years, maybe five,
but you don't want to wait until it's end. There's
there's no mitigating any additional cost when we're not talking
(11:46):
huge amounts of dollars for the fact of getting your
car having towed somewhere.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
All right, Well, Austin, the team would do at ended
in a multipoint inspection to make sure you were good.
Uh five on three six four four twenty six, twenty
six the number four in x dot com online on
real quick here you got a special announcement.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
We do we do, Brian, Yeah, so we are going
to be taking on Tesla. So we actually spend some
time in April in a course in Tennessee where the
most of my guys spend four days on the cars.
I took basically the two day course because I just
don't have my hands in it enough. But I actually
(12:23):
have us really prepared for taking on the ev portion
and we're going to start with Tesla. You know, there's
a lot of them in the area where I am.
The cars yeah, very popular, you know, I mean, I
don't think there's ever against Elon Musk said, going to
be the alternative for you know, moving across country just
because the infrastructure isn't there yet, but it is. You know,
when you're living in an area where maybe your your
(12:46):
travel habits are are not as great, that some of
these cars come into play. And we figured, why not
get ahead of it then behind it because we do
have a lot of customers that have the European cars
that own the Tesla, and the loaded question is is
do use services yet? And you know, in the past
we've done some work, but now we're full fledged, ready
to go.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Full fledge, ready to go with the Tesla. You can
get into the West Sister location for that. I just
I'm wildly curious and we only have about ten to
fifteen seconds left. What is there a biggest or most
a regular problem that Tesla owner's face you're aware of,
or is just random stuff like any other car.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Certain years, there's certain years early on obviously, just like
anything where you run into these problems. But I think
the cars now have what they call like self toolboxes,
so there's a lot of stuff where they're live, active
on a server, doing a lot of stuff. But they're
suspension components, tires are huge issues on the cars because
of the weight capacity, and just natural service. I mean
the cars do still get serviced. That is something I
(13:46):
did not know that is correct. Well, you won't see
me in.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
There in a Tesla, but you know I'll be back
with my German car and my wife's German car, and
my daughter's got in Mazda now, so she'll be back
since it's got rather a Nissan. Now. A deer killed
her Mazda jumped right out in front of it, got totaled.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
So you always have the CRV. We know that that
is right forever forever. Ah, it's a little workers Austin.
Thank you so much for helping out my listeners over
all these years. I know they're just very happy.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
I hear about it all the time, and of course
the idea is you're gonna save a lot of money.
You get a full warranty on parts and everything that
they do, parts and service, but they'll save you heap
loads of money and couldn't be more important these inflationary times.
