delicious delights it will bring us all. Here are your
fabulous hosts, Sharon Johnson and Susan Lambert had them.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Hello, I'm Susan and I'm Sharon. Hope everybody had a
wonderful Labor Day.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
And an excellent summer of joy and resistance. We're officially
back next week, but we thought we'd bring a quick
look back at our upcoming season.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
We have to thank you, dear listeners. We've received so
many wonderful suggestions from you all about what shows to cover,
so many that we're going to have to do this
show many many more seasons, many many apparently. So thank
you for your thoughts and suggestions, and please keep them coming.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
We're going to keep this episode short and quick, so
bullet time. We're covering three shows this season, right, Sharon,
are you ready?
Speaker 4 (01:16):
I am ready, Susan. We are so excited to finally
tackle the incredible brass ring of eighties TV ladies show
and an evergreen comedy, The Golden Girls.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
The Golden Girls is arguably one of the most quintessential
eighties TV ladies show. It premiered on September fourteenth, nineteen
eighty five, forty years ago this month, Sharon. It was
created by Susan Harris. It starred Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
B Arthur as Dorothy Petrillo, Zabornak, Betty White as Rose Nyland,
and Estelle Geddy as Sophia Petrillo, playing four previously married
women who now live together both to save money and
navigate their post marriage years.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
This All Females sit com ran on NBC for one
hundred and eighty episodes over seven seasons, and ended on
May ninth, nineteen ninety two.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
The show is beloved, and we're going to examine why.
It's not just because it's a masterclass in comedy or
because it's one of the greatest television theme songs of
all time. But I think it's because it's about friendship.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I think so too, And we're going to have some
exciting Golden Girls guests coming on. We can't wait to
share them all with y' all, and then after that
we'll move on to one day at a time. The
CBS Monday Night staple. It ran nine seasons from December sixteenth,
nineteen seventy five to May twenty eighth, nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
It starred Bonnie Franklin as Indianapolis divorced mom Anne Ramana,
raising her two daughters, Julie and Barbara, played by Mackenzie
Phillips and Valerie Burtonelli.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Pat Harrington Junior played the outrageous super Dwayne Schneider. It
was created by Whitney Blake and Alan Mannings.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
It was remade with a Latina cast in twenty seventeen
by Gloria Calderone Kellett and Mike Royce, starring Justina Machado
and Rita Moreno.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
And the third show We'll Be Looking At in season
four of eighties TV Ladies is the charming and long
requested ATL fan favorite Kate and Allie. Kate and Allie,
also on CBS, ran for six seasons one hundred and
twenty episodes, from March nineteenth, nineteen eighty four to May
(03:34):
twenty second, nineteen eighty nine.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
It was about two divorced women who lived together raising
their kids.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
It was created by Sherry Coben and starred Susan Saint
James and Jane Curtain as the kids.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
It starred Ari Myers as Kate's daughter Emma, and Frederick
Kohler and Alison Smith as Ali's children Chip and Jenny
hy Sharon.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
I realized we might have a theme here.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
I know, right, we have women living without men. That
was not intentional, that was really.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Just something as I were describing these shows that I'm like,
Oh my gosh, that's what it is. So we can't
wait for you to join us for this season. For
three seasons, we have transported you back to the nineteen
eighties and explored the many female driven shows that have
made us into the people we are today, and we
cannot wait to do it for these three shows.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
We also have some exciting special guests both for our
shows and some special sidebars. It's going to be so
much fun.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
So Eighties TV Ladies friends, if you have an idea
of someone, or better yet, you know someone or you
know someone who knows someone that we should get on
the season for these TV shows Golden Girls, Kate, Nelly,
