A Conversation with Former Obama Administration Official & Maryland Congressional Candidate Ashwani Jain

A Desi Woman is excited to catch up with current Congressional Candidate for Maryland’s 6th District and previous Obama Administration Official Ashwani Jain! Ashwani is a 34-year-old son of Indian immigrants and small business owners, a product of Maryland public schools, a published author and a cancer survivor. Ashwani is the only AAPI candidate running for Congress in his district and, if elected, would be Maryland’s first Millennial, first Asian-American and first Indian-American to be elected. Ashwani began volunteering for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign as a high school senior and worked his way from a volunteer to serving as a Presidential Appointee in the White House – diversifying the federal government in the Presidential Personnel Office, serving as White House Liaison at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, then as Associate Director of the Affordable Care Act at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and even as Director of Outreach for then-Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Initiative.
