Speaker 1 (00:01):
Reetings, and welcome to the broadcast. So there has been
much that has taken place in the wake of the
murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's past Wednesday out in
Utah speaking at a university event, and of course, in

(00:23):
the wake of the shooting, Donald Trump came right out
and started blaming the entire tragedy on the leftist Democrats.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Which is absolute nonsense.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
It has This tragedy has nothing to do with the left,
It has nothing to do with the right, It has
nothing to do with the middle. It has everything to
do with the fact that a deranged individual went up
on a rooftop with a gun and pulled the trigger.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
That's what this is all about.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
The Trump administration is constantly spreading hateful rhetoric, actively promoting
gun violence to solve problems. So they are certainly in
no position to talk and point fingers. But as far
as Charlie Kirk is concerned, he was somewhat of a

(01:14):
controversial figure.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
I did not like most.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Of what he had to say, and I certainly wouldn't
agree with most of what he had to say. Following
the shooting, there were many out there who made inappropriate
comments online, mostly through social media making statements that really
should not have been made concerning Kirk's death. But as

(01:41):
much as some of what was said was distasteful and
not welcome, as Americans, they still have the right to
express an opinion. And many people have actually lost jobs
over what they said following the incident, which is somewhat

(02:04):
disturbing in that they're facing intimidation for what they had
to say. Now, again, as Americans, we all have the
right to express opinions. And there's an old saying out
there concerning democracy and the freedom of speech, and it goes,

(02:28):
I may not agree with what you have to say,
but I will fight to the death for your right
to say it. Now, any true patriot of democracy will
understand the message and the meaning and that old saying.
There are many out there who are calling themselves patriots,

(02:48):
but they are nothing more than bullies and cowards who
act as the mouthpieces for the radical right. Speaking freely
and expressing ones mind is one of the cornerstones of democracy.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
That is the right that we all have.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Charlie Kirk had that right when he would often express
what he was thinking, what he was feeling, and in
the end he was brutally murdered for it.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Again, no one should be intimidated.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Or hurt or threatened by what they have to say
or what they want to express. In a recent statement
made by Bernie Sanders concerning this tragedy, Bernie summed it
up quite nicely when he said that democracy is about
people with different opinions who argue their opinions and their

(03:47):
points and eventually get together to come up with a
solution that works for everybody.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
He said it quite well.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
If you haven't seen this video, check it out, because
Bernie kind of sums up the entire situation very succinctly
and very effectively. This is not the time to divide the
country like Trump is trying to do by passing the
blame off on the radical left or whatever. Nobody should

(04:20):
have to die like Kirk did because of your political
views and your political stance. I've seen the video at
the moment of the shooting, and it's gruesome. It's horrifying.
It is hell on earth. Nobody should have their life

(04:41):
ended like that for speaking in your mind and trying
to make a political stand. Again, doesn't matter if you
agree with the man or not. Nobody deserves it. Nobody
but nobody deserves to die like that period, And I
would most certainly fight to the death for the right

(05:05):
of anybody to speak their mind, plain and symbol, doesn't.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Matter who they are. I would do it so again.
In the aftermath.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
What happens next, Well, unfortunately, I'm kind of getting the
vibe that this country is about to go rapidly down
the shitter.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Things are not good in this nation.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
We were getting extremely violent. There was a terrible school
shooting I believe it was in Colorado the same day
of the Charlie Kirk murder. And it's like, where are
we going? And the last thing that Trump should have

(05:55):
done was to stir the plot blaming, pointing the finger
of blame on political bias. Instead of uniting the country,
he further divides the country. He causes more animosity among people.
People are pissed off to begin with, without further.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Aggravating the situation.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
And if one were to point the finger of blame,
you know, this bias rhetoric is coming out of this
administration is just the impetus that some people need, some
mentally unstable people to go out and start shooting. They
feel in their own mind, for whatever reason, they are justified.

(06:43):
And I'm hearing now that the twenty two year old suspect,
Tyler Robinson, apparently he felt that Charlie Kirk wasn't conservative enough.
That's I guess a motive for why he did this,

(07:03):
and that makes absolute no sense at all, But to him,
I guess it did make some sense. And right away
after the shooting, they're pointing out, oh, it was possibly
a foreigner, or is this person or that person it
was someone transgender who did this? Right away they're lashing

(07:26):
out at all these different groups of people as possible
suspects when they had no clue who they were looking for.
And in the end it turns out it's a white
dude from a white family who, by all accounts are
I guess they vote Republican and their supporters of Trump, guns, God,

(07:48):
and country right. So is there any sort of answers
that we can come up with here or possible solutions. Well,
obviously the primary focus would be how do we prevent
a senseless killing like this from taking place again. The

(08:10):
first thing we need to do is we all need
to take a step back, take a deep breath, and
let's all focus ourselves instead of pointing fingers at everybody
yelling at each other, going crazy and getting stupid. Let's
be rational and come up with a solution that benefits everybody.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
I've been on this planet sixty years.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
As a kid, I remember experiencing the tail end of
the Vietnam protests, and I remember growing up in the
Boston area when they started desegregation of school buses, where
there was a lot of violence that took place because

(09:00):
that there were some days where you either couldn't it
wasn't a good idea to ride the bus, or just
not go to school at all.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Period.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
So I've seen some turbulent times in this country's history,
and from my life experience, this country is getting about
as bad as it's ever gotten as I've seen. Of course,
social media has a lot to do with this too,
because unfortunately, there's a lot of false information that gets
spread around on social media. People make claims and statements

(09:31):
with no fact to back up said material said content.
You know, right away, within hours after the shooting, all
the all the conspiracy theorists are coming out and they're
showing videos of this and all this guy couldn't possibly
have been the shooter, YadA, YadA, YadA, place. Come give
us a break, all right, there was one shooter in

(09:53):
this case, one shooter, no conspiracy. There's nobody out there
trying to manipulate things. This is what what happened. In fact,
from what I saw from some of the footage from
that day, there was security around Charlie Kirk as he
was speaking, and they're they're like, we're in their sunglasses

(10:14):
and they're scanning everything. Not one of those guys could
have seen moving up on that roof and thought, gee,
maybe that's a little suspicious.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
So, to be quite honest, I think his security.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Could fall under a little more scrutiny as far as
their overall abilities and the.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Job that they did not do that day.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
But now I'm sidetracking a little bit, so let me
kind of get back here. We need to We need
to get our heads screwed on straight in this country.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Because we are the.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
How should we say, the trend centers for democracy throughout
the world.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
We need to be leading by example.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
And again, to go back on what Bernie Sanders had stated,
democracy is starting to and affect crumble, It's starting to
show cracks, and we need to stop that.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
We need to fix it.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
We need to start acting like a civilized society. For one,
we need to stop paying so much attention to what
we read and hear and see online because in many
cases that's only fanning the flames, especially now when emotions
are running so high. You know, not everybody who has

(11:35):
a website or a page on Instagram or Facebook or
TikTok or whatever. Not all of those people know what
they're talking about. Okay, not all those people are authorities.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
There.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
A lot of them are throwing shit out there that
makes no sense, and it is only adding more problems
to an already overproblem.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Situation, if that makes any sense.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
So let's get our head screwed on straight for once
and start acting like Americans, all right. Let's not get
riled up by people who claim to be patriots when
they're not. They're just people who have their own agenda
and they want everyone to follow that agenda or else.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
That's not how it works either. Okay.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
You know, there are a lot of thugs out there
who are heavy followers of this administration, and they're seeking
to use this terrible tragedy as a means of floating
their own view of how the world should run. And
we can't allow that to happen. This country works best

(12:45):
when everyone talks with each other, not at each other,
not yelling at each other. Like I said, you may
not like an opinion that somebody expresses over this disaster,
but people are gonna express an opinion. Take the opinion
for what it's worth. Move on, let's come up with

(13:07):
a better way. Like I said, this country is rapidly
going down the shitter.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
So where does all of this go from here?

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Well, the killer, Tyler Robinson, remains incarcerated and insteadfastly refusing to.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Cooperate with the authorities.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
As a result, we may never fully know his true
mindset or the motives that he possessed for murdering Charlie Kirk.
This assassination will indeed prove to be a turning point
in our history. Without a doubt, We the people need

(13:52):
to stop with all the political rhetoric and it's currently
manifested between ourselves in the days following the shooting. The
very roots that inevitably led to this tragedy go far
beyond an unstable guy with a gun. We need to

(14:14):
end the blame game and stop acting so militant towards
each other. Such internal strife is detrimental to all of us.
It's not getting us anywhere, and let me reiterate one
more time that it goes without saying that nobody should

(14:35):
be silenced, intimidated, or murdered for holding a political opinion
or a stance. Let us put our heads together to
come up with a viable solution to bring rationality back
to this country and to help reduce the chances of

(14:56):
such a cold blooded killing from ever taking place again

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
