Speaker 1 (00:00):
He appreciate you calling in here. It's been an exciting
stretch here for the Lady Warriors. A couple couple tough
tests there late in the year on the road. Obviously,
a lot of people seen the video of the of
the incredible finish against a really good Hillsbrough team. You
get the west Fall wind to cap off your second
place finish in the league, and then you get in
(00:22):
the tournament play and pretty good the stretch there. Talk
to me about how the end of that regular season
kind of really pushed you into how you played last night.
Do you think that had a lot to do with it?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I absolutely do. I think you know, Hillsborough is a
really good team. They just can can kind of attack
from everywhere. And something I that that kind of surprised
a lot of people was we just had trouble stayed
in front of them, so we went we played zone
for about three quarters of that game, which we never do,
(00:57):
but kind of allowed us to stay in that game.
And and then yeah, we made a great shot there
at the end to win it. And then yeah, going
on the road to West Ball, coach Ptite always has
them really well prepared, and and and yeah, I think
both of those tests kind of kind of got us
(01:19):
ready for to this tournament run.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
You know, coach you too. You told me off the
airs we were talking basketball earlier this week when we
ran into each other, that you had a tough injury
here late in the year, and and uh, you're already
a team that's not real, real deep. But but in
this situation, the fact that it happened late in the year,
I felt like a couple of the kids that have
been starting to push for more and more minutes, it
(01:43):
probably was was there time to step up? I know
it sounded like J. C. Jones played pretty well last night.
Just talked to us about the injury, how she doing,
the young lady that got hurt, and then how you've
had to adjust on the fly here.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, so Avo Ferrell, who's one of our starts. Uh,
she at our game on Monday at Westfall. She uh
just jumped and then when she landed, her knee gave out,
ended up tearing her a c L and her m
c L. And uh, just really a tough injury for
a kid that does so much for us in terms
(02:19):
of doing whatever it takes to win. She's just really
a competitor, and you know, I know she was super
excited about it being tournament time and so just a
tough injury for her. And it's a it's a tough
injury for us. Like you mentioned, we're not super deep,
but thankfully we have had a couple of freshmen that
(02:40):
has really stepped up kind of late in the season
and earned more minutes, and so they're ready to to
kind of take that next step and and do more
for us. But yeah, Jason Jones played played really well
for us the other night, and uh, she's uh, she's
she's just come a long way, you know.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Coaches, as I look at the bracket, I mean, as
you said, each step of the way now is going
to ramp up a little bit with the with the
with the the level of competition. You know, a program
North Adams obviously very respected program that'll be on the
sale Tuesday. Is that correct day of clock Waverley down. Yeah,
and then you know, I I even see that bracket
day with fair one. But that's that's a discussion for
(03:22):
another day. You know, talk to me about North Adams
a little bit and what this current version of North
Adams looks like.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Well, obviously Coach Davis does a fantastic job. His teams
are always really good. He uh they don't seem to rebuild,
they just reload. And we've got a really good post
player in Caitlyn Berger. She uh uh is a is
a really fantastic player on the block, and uh then
(03:51):
around her, they've just got a lot of players who
know their role and they know what they're supposed to
do and they do their job as well. And so
we know, especially this time of year, they they've done
really well. And so we know we've got a tough
test ahead of us, but we're excited about the challenge.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, coach, something just came to my mind when I
we heard you talking about the Hillsboro game. I mean,
obviously the Hillsboro is really really talented and you're talking
about going to zone and for people that haven't seen
you play, when a diena has trouble keeping the ball
in front, gives you an idea how good they are
off the dribble. No, I mean that, and it's so,
but it's a situation that's interesting to me because as
you get into the postseason and there is no tomorrow,
(04:31):
you know, we've all been there sometimes a coach, you
just go in your back pocket and you're like, hey,
we got to do something. Does that Does that show
a little bit of growth in your team? The fact
that you say you don't do that very often. I
mean the kids obviously were able to make the adjustment,
understand why you are making adjustment, and execute it for you.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yeah. I mean, so we played more zone in that
Hillsborough game than I think we have in my six
years here combined. And it's something we work on occasionally
just to have it to go in case we need it.
But you know, in a in any sort of lengthy
tournament run, you're gonna have to find ways to win
(05:09):
games in different ways, you know, because everyone's gonna play
to their strengths and and you have to be able to,
uh you know, take advantage of their weaknesses, but also
help help mitigate what they do well. And so I
think it's important to be able to change things up
(05:30):
within the course of the game if what you're doing
is it isn't working well. So uh So it was
it was comforting for me that we uh played it
and played it well because now it's something we can
go to if we need it.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Well. Coach you last show of the year. You've been
so good to call in when I give everybody a
chance to shout out their seniors and you've obviously been
hammered by graduation in the last couple of years, and
then still keep the ball rolling with an outstanding season. Again.
I know you've talked highly of your seniors being a
big talk to us a little bit about those those
particular young ladies.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, we've got to Cameron sours and and my daughter Crinn.
I'm a little bit biased to this group, but they
both are, Uh, they're really good leaders, they're fantastic kids,
they do things the right way. They're great teammates, you know.
(06:24):
You know, I think for someone like Cameron, she's just
somebody that knows what needs to be done, knows what
it takes to win, and she's willing to do it.
She shows up every day ready to work. She's always
in the right spots, always doing the right things. And
you know, with a player like that, it it enables
(06:44):
you to to win win games. Uh, she's just a
winning player. It's what she does. And then with my
daughter Crinn, I think you know one thing that that
she's done really well every year is get better. She's
always working on different parts of her game. I think
(07:05):
she's close to thirty threes this year. You know for
a post player, uh that that makes it hard to guard,
makes your team hard to guard when your post player
can step out and do that. So she's just made
improvements every single season and you know, put herself in
a place to you know, be one of the better
(07:25):
players in the SEC. So just really proud of both
of them and for what they bring to our team.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Well, Coach Kam, thank you enough for for the willingness
to call in and talk about your kids each and
every week. Just another incredible season there for the Lady Warriors,
and we're really looking forward to following you next week
here into the district tournament.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Well, I appreciate it and know that we we as
coaches and and and people in the community, appreciate all
you guys do for our athletes. So thank you, guys.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Thank
