Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, coach is Shane, appreciate you your calling here after
the the road test tonight. Southeast. You know, Southeastern has
been a fascinating team this year as we talked a
lot about them, you know, it's been one or two
years in the works and it's kind of all come
together for coach Alley there. I always feel like the
first word that comes to mind is physical. They're they're
(00:23):
an older team. They're they're a strong team.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
And I'm assuming listening to coach Alley earlier and then
just looking at the final score, I'm and knowing kind
of how the game's played in today's time, I'm assuming
that was a pretty physical basketball game tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah, it was definitely a physical game, which is the
style that they play, you know, and we we play
a little bit of a physical but it goes sometime
against us. But I think, I mean, honestly, I thought
we played a really tight game defensively. I thought it
was more defensive game on both ends tonight. Both teams
struggles scoring a little bit and a couple of runs
and made a couple of runs as the game went on,
(01:00):
but definitely a physical game. They battled, both wos battled
to the end. You know, you know, I mean, you
know them, sorry Southeastern, the older group. You know, they
got a lot of older guys, but they're big across
the board, top to bottom. I think they're bigger than
us in every position.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
You know, coach, when when I take a look into
the match up tonight and it sounds like the Williams
kid got off on you early. The rest of the
guys you seem to be defending pretty well. Uh, such
a talented point guard they have there at southeaster and
what was he doing earlier that was hurting you?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
He got I think in that first quarter at two
or three maybe three, and you know, one of them
he got loose and it was uncontested, but the other two,
you know, they were contested. And you know, he generates
so much offense for those guys and for us coming out,
you know, we wanted that least make sure he didn't
beat us off the dribble. That's we killed us the
(01:57):
first time when we played them the first time. We're
so I mean, our guys stood to the game plan
and then you know we we obviously adjusted. Actually, he
hit the first couple of ones, you know, he got
going a little bit. And but he's a very talented guard.
I always call him Steve Nash. He plays he got
a different game. I'll be Everyone tried to force him
(02:18):
to a certain way, but he plays the game straight
up and puts you in position where if he you know,
you forced him left, he's still going to get to
that right hand. And he's just good. I mean, I
like the kid man. He's he's done a very well
good job. But I also think our guys did a
really good job defending him tonight. You know, we take
away a couple other things, and you know, you got
the game go, you know, and something got to give,
(02:39):
and he made shots tonight, and then you know, we
kind of made adjustments, like I said, and uh and
and those shots didn't happen anymore. Obviously they were. We
were defending them a little bit better, changed it up
a little bit and kind of changed up our matchups.
But overall came down to defense. And I think for
us it came down to a couple of turnovers in
the fourth quarter, a couple of calls that didn't go
(02:59):
our way, but also just a couple of turnovers. That's
been the last two games. We found ourselves in a
situation where our defense has done its job a little
bit and picked up and been doing a lot better,
but just offensively taking care of the balls be the
problem right now for us trying to fix Well, could.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
You talk about getting battle tested for tournament time? This
is what I think makes you such a tough tournament
draw for someone I don't. I don't know what the
weather is going to do. I'm not going to pretend
to know the weather. But on your schedule, if I'm
reading right, you have McClean tomorrow right then you go Circleville,
North Adams, Uniota before the tournament. Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
That is correct because we got four out in the
next eight days. So for us, you know, I mean,
there's there's nothing better than playing, and I always say
we can't simulate a game, you know, So for us,
I don't, I prefer to play versus having that layover.
So I think we're it's going to put us in
a position to where, like you said, battle test it,
(03:56):
especially going into the next season.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
So well, no quite the Chili Cooffee mccleain game to night.
I think that's a good matchup for the bear Cats
tomorrow night as they come calling try to get you
back on the winning track. But either way, like I said,
that's going to get you ready for tournament. Hey, before
we get you off here, who led you tonight?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Carson Carson? I believe Carson had eighteen and double double.
We had eighteen and eleven. Braven followed that up, I
think with seventeen or sixteen right after him. So both
played a really good game. And then our other guys
complimentary they did that, their did their job, made shots
when they were acted upon. But for us, I think
(04:34):
that tonight's game was physical but a defensive game. Both
groups struggled scoring that while and I think we we
kind of just taking care of the ball a couple
of moments. Man, as a coach, you know, you just
don't want to see that. But you know, as of
right now, you know, the biggest thing is we got
another opportunity tomorrow to go out there and try to
(04:54):
change things around. So we'll get back to it tomorrow.
Figure it out.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well, no Qui es, I know you're right there with
Western the other night sounds like right there with Southeastern,
So it's close. A great opportunity McClain. Tomorrow night. Tough
schedule ahead, but tournament time around the corner. Look forward
to talking to your next Friday coach and we'll talk
a little tournament basketball.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
I appreciate you guys, have a good evening.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Thank you,
