Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, coach, is Shane you hear me? All right?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Yes? I can hear you.
Speaker 1 (00:03):
They good good, I'm glad. I'm glad we got you
on here. I know I don't have the roster in
front of me, so I'm trying to go off memory
here and the older I get that's not very good.
The three seniors, is that correct for you guys this year?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (00:17):
When we start there, talk about them a little bit.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Okay, we have three seniors. We have Sophie Stafferam and
McKenzie Crumb, And those are just three kids that have
all been part of our program for the last four
years and have given up a lot of time and
a lot of energy and put in a lot of work.
They have seen kind of the heights and the loads
(00:41):
of our program, so they've experienced a little bit of
everything and can definitely say that their leadership this season
has been huge because you don't often find yourself with
a group of kids that, despite the adversity and the
challenges and the not abundance of wins, kids that will
(01:03):
still show up and have smiles on their face and
be willing to do whatever we ask of them next.
And they're very selfless and some a couple of the
kids weren't always in the spotlight or playing every minute,
but they never back down and ever quit and I'm
just really proud of them, really grateful for everything they've
done for us the last four seasons.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, no question, it's always cool to talk about seeing
or go ahead together.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah, I was just gonna say that that positivity. You know,
it's easy to be on board with a program that
is successful in terms of where they finish in the SBC,
but you know you have a true community and that
buys into your program because you just have genuinely good
(01:49):
kids who try hard. And we're seeing that in that
younger age range where you have, you know, talent that
is starting to really like take off at the younger levels.
With your junior high team having that league championship.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, we a very proud of those kids. They were
They've been pretty frustrated and disappointed this last week because
the tournament didn't go quite how they wanted it to.
But what's exciting I think with our junior high is
we have five eighth grade kids and they they've finished
the season with one loss and a tournament or a
(02:30):
league championship. Got to cut down a net and there's
a couple of kids at that level who love basketball,
and so you don't always we have a lot of
kids who who play hard, they're tough, they do what
you ask, they're coachable, but not every kid just you know,
their heart isn't all about basketball. And there's a couple
(02:50):
of kids down the eighth grade who they eat, sleep,
and breathe it, and so it's exciting to think about
them coming up and what they can add to our
high school program and what the future could hold for
paint Lego's basketball.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
You know, coach, you run into a really good Bell
Prey team in the tournaments and that knocks out and
so now you start to turn your attention to the
off season. You know, Vanessa talking about the eighth grade
group there, the thirteen and one SVC champions finished third
place in the tournament, and then you know, you've got
some nice pieces coming back as well. You also had
a really good player from the summer get hurt that
(03:25):
we talked about that that hopefully will return healthy. So
there's a lot of building blocks there. Kind of give
me a vision into the summer in terms of what
you hope you can accomplish. Just in trying to take
all of this and spread a little bit of love
of the game into the program. Talk to me about
the summer a little bit.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Well, I know that as tired as I am, and
as much as I enjoyed some rest today, that just
this last week with Davy season ending and Junior High ending,
and now all of our city being done for this year,
I've had kids already say, like Kylie Spengler, who you
(04:02):
were just mentioning, who had been injured recovering from acl
She said, I hope that you're ready to be in
the gym like every day, So hoping to just get
that same commitment across the board, and just you know,
it takes a couple of kids to kind of start it,
and then other kids will will buy in and also
want to just get those individual workouts and work on
(04:24):
skills and just the little things that we're not always
doing right as basketball players. Hopefully we can just kind
of pinpoint some weaknesses and just find ways to get
better just each day and just build on that.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Well, Coach, I tell you, I'm glad we got you on.
I wanted to give you a chance to talk about
the seniors with Soaf and cookie and bray there. I
know they mean a lot to you, and I appreciate
all that you do for paying Valley, and I know
that there's a lot to look forward to, so so
thank you for calling in and talking about your kids.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Absolutely, thank you guys for every Friday Night. We appreciate you.
