Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, coach, appreciate you calling in now, correct me if
I'm wrong. You have not played yet. You open on Tuesday,
is that correct?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Originally we were so soaping up
on Saturday and then wound up moving the game to
against Fairfield Union, then wound up moving the games later
in the year. So yeah, we'll open up against Tremble
on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yeah. I believe Tremble did play tonight. You get a
chance you out and do some scouting.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, yeah, I went and watched Tremble in Alexander tonight.
Down down to Alexander.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yeah, well, I'll tell you the first thing and jumps
out at me. I had a chance to see you
guys on film in the preseason quite a bit, man,
You you have quite a back backcourt. To talk to
us a little bit about those two.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
They seem to really make you go, Yeah, you know,
we've got, you know, our starting backcourt. You've got You've
got Cobra Sharp, who's been this will be his third
year starting, and then Hayden Reynolds, who was kind of
like our sixth man last year. Both both pretty dynamic
with the ball in their hands, played pretty well off
of each other. They both like to push play out
(00:56):
and out in space. So you know, they're they're the
guys who are kind of gonna kind of make the
engine go for us this year.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Well in the tv C A Hio obviously, Vinton County's
been a mainstay at the top. Are always competing for
that top spot and this year I'm sure it will
be no different this year. I understand MEGS has quite
a group. Athens always very competitive. Take us to the
tv C A Hio or what can you tell us
about the conference this year?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, you know, Megs, MEGS would have probably been the
odds on favorite to win the league, you know, after
last year regardless. But then obviously they hi Ryan Davis,
who does a great job. And his son you know,
transferred in there when he got the job, so he's,
uh he's a six eight, a six eight kid who
(01:41):
can play. So you know obviously that that makes them
even more formidable. They they're really big, athletics, strong, Uh
can play. I mean they're they're they're for real. Then
you've got like said, Athens, uh, you know will always
will always put a what a good product out there.
(02:02):
Nelsonville will have a nice team, you know, Welston's got
some man. Wilson's got some big kids. And then you
you know, you throw in You know, I watched Alexander
tonight and they looked they look really good. Play just
play their butts off. You know, coachill is going to
get a lot out of out of them over there.
(02:22):
And then and then you got River Valley, who I
saw lost a game to night, but put up a
bunch of points in the process.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
You know. The big thing, I know, uh, you know,
with you be an athletic director to and have something
a great knowledge of it, just say, you know, the
big the discussion point seems to be the expansion of
the seven divisions. You know, Vitton County always being a
team that we've known as a Division two school. What
what's the new format due to Vitton County? What's that
look like for the Vikings in the postseason situation?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Well, you know, it's funny that you mentioned that because
I someone asked me the other day what division we were,
and I said too that I had to go back
and correct myself just because you know, we've been Division
two forever. Yeah, you know, a lot of the it
seems like a good chunk of the Division two teams
are now Division four teams. You know, we lost a
couple of teams Miami, Trace, Marietta, Warren, Athens. Seems like
(03:17):
there's somebody else. I'm forgetting that Sheridan that jumped up
to Division three. Well I jumped up, I guess, are
a division higher than us now Division three. But then
I think I believe there's fourteen teams in Division four.
Now you know ourselves. You know, if if megs out
(03:41):
of our leg, I believe that's it out of our leg.
And then you have you know, you've got several of
the fact schools Courthouse, Jackson, Hillsborough, Greenfield, our division, our
Division four. Also a few schools out of the out
(04:01):
of the SVC. So yeah, I mean it's it's changed,
it's shrunking it down, I guess to a degree. So
some of the teams that were there were you know,
your bigger teams have gone up to the division above us.
But a lot of the you know, a lot of
the common common characters there that were Division two.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah, it's interesting how a lot of that stuff was
was meant more for the bigger divisions. And as you
get down, as you said, into what we were knowing
as the two, three four, probably not going to split
it quite as much. Obviously coaching the weeks to come,
we'll talk more about the games you're playing. Haven't you know,
really had that situation. But while I have you how
about the Vinton County girls. Pretty pretty good opportunity for
(04:42):
them to take a step forward this year.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, you know, they're fun to watch. They they they're
they're scrappy. They they've got multiple people that can do
they can do a lot of things. You know, they
they they get after it, you know, defensively, I know there,
I know their games have been high scoring, but uh,
you know, they put a lot of pressure on teams
and uh, you know, we've had some we've had some
(05:05):
up and down games. First couple. Like I said, you know,
they they are, they're really fun to watch. They've got
they've got several girls they can shoot, you know, they
they're it's a more balanced. The last few years we've
had kind of like a one person who's kind of
like been our you know, leading scorer. And this year,
this year, they've got way more balance. They've got a
they've got a freshman point guard that you know, does
(05:27):
a does a great job, just you know, taking care
of the ball and distributing. They've got some shooters on
the wings. They've got a nice post player. Yeah, they're
they are, They're They're very fun to watch. They you know,
they've they started off to and oh and basically had
almost identical scores. I think they won their first game
sixty one to fifty seven. I think they won the
other night sixty three fifty eight.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
So that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah, it's good to see them. Good to see them
get off to a get off to a good start
with the team that doesn't really have a lot of
a lot of seniors on it, so you know, it's
nice to see them get their feet wet and get
in there and get some wins early in the season.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Well, coach, I can't thank you enough for calling in.
I look forward to talking to you throughout the year
once you start playing some games. Make sure you're calling
in each and every Friday night. It allows us to
keep up on what's going on there with Bitton County
and throughout the tvc ohio. But best of luck to
you this year.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Hey, I appreciate it. Thanks for what you guys do.
