Speaker 1 (00:00):
Benjay, you hear me, all right, Yeah, Hey, I appreciate
you calling in a good win for the Vikings, and
I I understand the rivalry game there. Take us through it.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yeah, you know, hard fought win. We like said rivalry games.
So you know, it's one of those things where kids
know each other really well. You know, we're about ten
miles apart. You know, it's if it's always a battle,
and when we play those guys, teams know each other
really well. You know. They they came out and played
really well there early. We hung around. We were down
(00:33):
one at halftime, you know, fell behind, fell behind I
think five or six there in the third quarter, and
went on a pretty good run to go up about
to go up about seven. They cut it down to
two at one point there in the fourth, but we
never lost the league. So you know, guys made plays
down the stretch and pulled out a nine point win.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
You know, Coach, I want to backtrack a little bit.
I thought the New Hope game was really really big
for your team team this year. It was just a
weird night if I was I was following it there,
and and obviously the details were a little sketchy. You
lost the player and warm ups one of your best players.
And then and then you you obviously have a Cobra
(01:14):
and and you sharp step up and nash Y Eight's
that really shot the ball well that night and you
get a big win there kind kind of what did
that win mean to you guys at the time you
got it? And then moving forward, are you healthy?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Well, we're not healthy, Hayden, you know, like you said,
Hayden Reynolds is the one that got hurt and warm
ups over there against New Hope just a you know,
kind of a freak accident and uh, he broke his
collar bones, so he'll be yeah, yeah, so he'll be
he'll be out for the rest of the season. Obviously,
that's a huge blow for us. You know, you've seen
(01:48):
us play. Hayden's uh, Hayden's Hayden's pretty electric, you know.
So you know, I feel terrible for the kids obviously,
first just because you know, that's never the you never
don't want that to happen to anybody, but especially you know,
a senior getting coming into the last few weeks of
their season. So yeah, I mean, just youah, just a
(02:09):
just a bizarre start to the night. And uh, like
you said, then we then we came out and you know,
played what was probably our best game of the season.
After it happened, I think our our kids kind of
you know, just you know, stepped up to the to
the moment. You know, we we we've had a maybe
our you know, the worst game we had put together
(02:30):
and all year the night before, and you know, give
our kids credit, they they bounced back, you know, even losing,
even losing one of our main guys to get a win,
uh Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Well, yeah, you put it all together. You had the
nightmare fourth quarter of the night before you come on
the road. I know New Hoop's got an outstanding player.
I think he scored a thousand point night game and
and uh, just a lot of challenges, but yeah, your
your your guys' ability to do that and then move
ahead and get get this one got to give you
a little confidence going into the tournament, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah? Yeah, you know, I mean obviously, you know, we've
still got a couple of regular season games that we've
got to play, so you know, we'd like to we'd
like to get on a little bit of a run
going into the tournament. You know, we've got we've gotten
the last two. Obviously, we've got a very very very
good Zane Trace team tomorrow night, and then we picked
up we lost McLean on Tuesday and we weren't able
(03:25):
to find a data to play that. So we are
we picked up Ross County Christian Academy and we're gonna
play them on Monday.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Okay, that was That was one of my next questions.
And good. So your your kids do get the full
twenty two games, which I always think is important for
kids and particularly seniors. And with this being pretty much
our last normal show, We've got some different ideas for
one more little special thing we may do down the
road here, but tonight's going to be pretty much our
last standard basketball show. So you've been good to call
(03:55):
in several times this year. I want to give you
an opportunity talk about your seniors.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, you know, it's it's a great group, you know,
I I I told him the nice locker room after
the game. You know, next year is going to be
weird for me. You know, I've had I've always coached,
you know, but this is my third year doing this
and I you know, starting with Cobra, you know, he's
I've never I haven't coached a game without Cobra sharpen It.
So you know it's going to be it's going to
be a strange feeling not having him. You know, he's
(04:22):
he's one heck of a security panket to have out there.
You know, he's he's so he's so gritty, and he's
so smart and you know, obviously a skilled kid. It's like,
you know, having another coach on the floor. So you know,
obviously losing him, losing him and and everything he brings
to the table is going to be huge. You know,
(04:43):
you got the you got your just like I said earlier,
you know, just electric. Uh Hayden Reynolds. You know, it's
so quick, you know, can can score in so many ways. Obviously,
he he leaves a void when he goes. Uh Luke
Demmel know has has you know, done a great job
for us kind of you know, being our our post presence.
(05:08):
You know, he he's not a real big kid, but man,
he's strong, and he plays his butt off and and
and he's such a leader for us. Uh, you know,
didn't play last year, came in. You know the first
half of the season was kind of a kind of
up and down for Luke, but man, the last last
seven or eight games, Luke's been Luke's been really really
good for us. Uh. Then you got Scout White, who's
(05:31):
been about our you know, six seventh man this season.
You know, Scout just brings a lot of intangibles to
the table, really good defensively, hustles his butt off. Not
a kid that's going to score a ton, but uh,
you know, always in the right place defensively, and and
and does a lot of the dirty work for us.
And then you got Peyton Neosley. Uh, a kid that
doesn't get doesn't get a ton of time for us.
(05:51):
But man, I'll tell you he has come in every day,
he's worked his butt off in practice, and you know
he's he's made us better as the seasons go has
gone on.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Well, Coach, that's obviously a good group. They've done a
lot of winning. As you guys continue to fight through
to another winning season here, I think that's what eleven
and nine is what I have yet with two still
to play, So good luck tomorrow night. That'll certainly be
a tournament type test. And then uh, you finish out
the regular season and then now in the tournament, you
guys are are you Hillsborough.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Yes, we have to go two hills Borrough, So you know,
obviously long trip went on the other night. You know,
they've got they've got to really skilled.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Guards, yes they do.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
And uh, you know, so it's gonna be a challenge.
You know, they've got they've got some links, they've got
some athleticism, they're strong, you know, they got they got
some guys. I told somebody tonight. You know, they got
guys out there that you know, look like football players,
you know, yeah, and uh, we don't. We don't have
that that that builds with a lot of our guys.
So we've got to accept the physicality that's going to
(06:54):
come in that game. And uh, you know, if we can,
if we can take care of the ball and take
care you know, and and you know, take care of
things offensively, and then you know, you flip to the
defensive side and you got to try to tame that two
headed monster that they have, and uh, you know, it's
it's going to be a challenge. But you know, our
our kids have stepped up to the child the challenge
this last couple of nights, so you know, hopefully, hopefully
(07:17):
we can, like I said, win these last couple in
the regular season get a little momentum going into that game.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Yeah, no question, really, really, it's been impressive how you
guys have just been able to stick with it and
starting to play some really good basketball here. So hey,
thanks so much for for a calling and the best
of luck moving forward here.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Hey, I appreciate it, Shane, thank you.
