Speaker 1 (00:00):
And on the line.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Now we have Westfall Boys coach Kyle Joseph Hey, coach
is Shane you hear me all right?
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Yeah I can.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Hey, appreciate you your calling in and giving an opportunity
to talk about your kids here. I know, uh a
chance what you play there last night. It's cool atmosphere
that that that place is really one of the underused
incredible facilities in our area. So it was good to
see some some high level basketball, a lot of offense.
If you liked offense, hopefully everybody had the over. Yeah
(00:31):
made it's sorts of go but but in all seriousness,
I know that that's what it looks like. You know
when when you guys get everybody going there, I know
your your your top three guys. What twenty one, nineteen
and eighteen I think I saw this morning. Uh, just
talk to me about that. That That had to feel good,
just to break out a little bit.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Yeah, it was, Uh, you know, we had lost the
game against Grim City Christian where we couldn't find a
rescheduled date, so kind of you know, we've been looking
looking and kind of you know, ross kind of Christian
has things fall through where they had an opening there
and you know, we were looking for, you know, something
to break up a week and a half of practice
(01:14):
before our tournament game and just another chance to go
out there and compete and try and get try and
get better before trying to replace start. So uh, you know, certainly,
like you said, from a defensive aspect, there's probably a
lot to be desired for for both squads, but there
(01:34):
were there were a lot of good things that we
did on the offensive end. And that's kind of you
know the takeaway. Uh, well, practice today just watching a
few clips of just just highlighting some good stuff that
we did. So yeah, it was a playing there at
the Shoe Makers Center, Like I said, that's a that's
another appealing thing about playing that game kind of you know,
(01:56):
you know, playing on that on a you know, a
big floor and kind of neat, neat setting there, So
good experience for our guys.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
You know, Coach, I thinking about your basketball team a
little bit today and prep of the show. You know
last year, you're fourteen and nine, nine and five, and
when you and I talked at the halfway point this year,
and I think this is hard for people to understand
sometimes as you know, your your your goals are to
take that next step. And halfway through the year, you
guys were right there. I mean, obviously you lost by three.
(02:25):
I think there was a trace at home you beat Uniota.
I remember talking to you after the UNIODA game and
you and you were afraid that you could see it
in your kids eyes were a little bit of disappointment.
I thought you guys went through a stretch there where
it showed. Now all of a sudden, you start to
show some signs, I mean equally impressive. I would rank
Megs as a top five team in the entire area,
(02:46):
regardless of the vision that that's that's an impressive showing there.
I mean, do you still feel like coming up in
the postseason that that you guys are that you still
got a little bit in the tank?
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Oh? Yeah, for sure. Know we we've battled, uh. You
know a lot of adversity that I think you know,
in the in the long run, UH is gonna help
help all of our kids, not just you know, not
just on the basketball court, but in life. And you know,
we have a you know, didn't return a ton of
experience this year. Certainly some good players, but you know,
(03:22):
the versus varsity basketball was new to a lot of
our guys and kind of with that, I think one
of the things you see is all year long, just
consistency has been a problem for us, whether that be
game to game or quarter to quarter, or you know,
(03:43):
or we play a great game on the defensive end
of this floor and you know, are turning the ball
over or can't make a shot whatever, or then you know,
flip it around and maybe that defensive focus isn't quite
where it needs to be. But man, we're moving the
ball and we're making shots. So just you know, continuing
to try to be consistent, just chasing that thirty two
(04:04):
minutes so you know, we don't have to be perfect,
but of trying to be where we need to be.
And you know, like you said, we last Saturday and
we played that's the other thing about our record and
not a you know, it's definitely our guys would say
the same thing. It's it's not what we wanted it,
you know, to reflect right now all we you know,
(04:27):
I knew that and I told our guys this, you know,
before the season even started that I went out and
scheduled kind of as hard of a non conference schedule
as I could, and I had our record in those
games is not very good, but we uh, we played
some good teams. I'm played them close and like I said, Megs,
(04:47):
we were we were down four with the ball with
about two and a half minutes left again against a
really good team. And I think those just kind of
all those experiences I think do have us. Uh, we're
we feel like you know, we know. I actually just
got back from I was watching New Lex play tonight.
(05:08):
That's who we have next Thursday, and you know, we
know that we're gonna have to play really well to
come out on top there. But that's certainly something that
we we know and believe we're capable of.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Well, I think that's more than a fair point what
you're saying there in the overall record at MAGS. Let's see,
I know you played Bird, you played Logan, Elm, Circleville Courthouse, Yes,
I mean you played some who's who in the non
league there, And you mentioned New Lax. I had a
chance to call one of their games earlier this year.
They have some outstanding guard play that that's gonna be
(05:41):
a challenge on the defensive Endell tell us a little
bit about New Las.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah, yeah, they have two senior guards that you know,
between the two of them, I think are probably around
twenty five hundred career points. And then you know a
number of another of other kids that they put around
them that can really shoot the ball. I think you
look at them and you know, I know their football
(06:08):
team has been extremely you know, it was very very good.
You know, obviously their their basketball team has had a
lot of success the last several years. You look at
them and it looks like a football I mean it's
either a big, physical, strong kids. So they're gonna present
some challenges for us for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Well, coach, I appreciate you calling in before we get
you off here, senior wise, and you will highlight them
for us.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, we have three seniors, Aiden riggsby Dig of Hicks
and Nate Wolf. You know, all three of those guys
don't done a tremendous job for us this year. I think, uh,
you know, got you know, I'd say all three of
them just really be the expectations for me this year.
(07:02):
All those guys dressed versity for US last year. Jacob
played some some big minutes for US, you know, spot
minutes here and there in some games, but for the
most part, those three played JB last year and they
stuck with it and they come out, you know, came
(07:22):
out this year and have been, you know, a huge
boost to our team. Have done a great job for us.
So I can't thank them enough for their efforts.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Well, coach, we appreciate you calling in and talking about
your kids. A lot to be excited about moving forward
here into the postseason. You got a really dangerous team.
You got a lot of kids coming back that can
really play as well, so I feel like things are
are in a positive direction there. Just appreciate you always
taking the time talk about your kids. Best of luck
to you in the postseason.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Thanks for having me
