Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ryn, and welcome back to another edition of ACF four
one one, the official podcast of the Allen County Fair.
I'm Rous Decker, your host, and joining me today in
the podcast parlor. And we call it a parlor because
we're in the old milking parlor here at the Allen
County Fair. I'm excited to have this guy in the
parlor today. His name is Taylor wall Ferguson and Taylor,

(00:22):
welcome to the parlor.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Welcome, nice to be on, glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
All right, So you have a special interest project. It's
kind of unique. Yes, it's about leadership. Yes, so tell
me about that.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
So the special interest product project leadership, it's all about
how to be a good leader. What are some leadership qualities?
And just had to work in a team setting together
with people.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
So when you picked this project, what have you learned
from it?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
I've learned many qualities on being a better person in
a group setting. You can't just lead, you have to
equally work with everyone, and everyone plays a key part
in a group setting and as.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
I would imagine being so imagine you're active in a
four age club, right, yes, so has that helped you
in the four age club? Or you are you moving
up the leadership ranks?

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yes, I'm actually the vice president of my club.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Okay, and you're at LCC now right, yes, a freshman yep,
Now I know you're a state delegate. Tell me what
is that? What does that mean?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
A state delicate?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Basically, you did so well in your county. Well, it
doesn't mean you necessarily won in your county, but you
were eligible for state out of you were representative for
your county.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
And how many So when you went to the state
was that pretty scary?

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, because there are a lot tougher.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
On you for judging, and they're critique more. You have
to know your stuff and.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
So like in your category. So let's take well, compare
the county to the state. So in leadership category here,
how many how many? How much competition did you have?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I don't think a lot. I think only two or
three people did some.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
And then how about when you went to Columbus for
the state.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Everyone in the county, everyone from my county in Ohio canon.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yeah, so that was a big group.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah. Did you like it down there? Did you like
it at state?

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah? It's fun. It's a great experience to have.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
So you want to go back. Yeah, what do you
want to do next year for your project?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
I'm really into robotics and science, so maybe polar science
or robotics.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
I was thinking maybe, And you know, I think that's it.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
I'm glad you're you're you know, you're doing leadership and
then you're talking about robotics because these are topics that
most people wouldn't associate with. Four H and four H
can be whatever you want it to be, just about
can it?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
How did you get into four H?

Speaker 3 (02:49):
It was fourth grade and the club leader at the
time she came to our school and they offered anyone
that wanted to join four eights and I took it
home to my mom and I said I want to
join and.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Been there ever since.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
This was at Saint Gerard. Yeah, so you were in
fourth grade as Saint Gerard, you got what was your
first project?

Speaker 3 (03:08):
My first project was first aid medical kit. I had
to make a whole first aid kit and it is Yeah,
it was cool.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
And you'll never forget that. Well, you know, so do
you have a medical kit now in your car and stuff?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yep? I still have it? Is that right?

Speaker 1 (03:24):
All right? That's good? What do you think you want
to do. We talked about robotics for next year. Have
you ever thought about getting into livestock?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Maybe? I was thinking maybe a peacock.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Maybe peacock would be very There are very many peacocks.
Do you know much about them?

Speaker 2 (03:41):
No, that's all I want to do it to learn more.
I guess.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
My guess is it would be a lot of work,
but it could be fun.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Right, So, what what's the rest of the week look
like for you? We're on day number four of nine
days of the Allen County Fair. What's in store for
Taylor for the next five days?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Honestly, just probably eat the fair food, Just go around eating.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Do you have a favorite the fries?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Those are my favorite, the.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Fisk fries over there.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah. Do you like them with the vinegar on there?
Yeaheah me too. I'm a vinegar and salt kind of guy.
What is your favorite ride out here at the fair?

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Probably the Fireball. I like how it's fins all around. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
So, if somebody was listening to us, Taylor and they're like, wow,
I mean, I didn't know you could do a project
on leadership or robotics or some of these other areas.
What would you tell them if they're thinking about joining
four H why should they join?

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Honestly, I think for it is a great way to
break out of your comfort zone. You get to meet
new people, get new experiences, you get to learn new things,
all kinds of stuff, and like you said, brains out
maybe to livestock and yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Have you kind of come out of your shell because
of four HS? You seem pretty poised.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Yes, I would say it was.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
I was very shy in fourth grade, very quiet, but
I've definitely came out of myself more.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
