Speaker 1 (00:00):
And welcome back to another edition of ACF four one one,
the official podcast of the Allen County Fair powered by Nutrient.
I'm your host, Russ Decker and joining me in the
podcast parlor here at the Allen County Fair we have Reagan.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hi, thank you for having me.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
You're welcome. So how old are you and where do
you go to school at?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm nine years old and I go to Alan E's
to Lemon Tree.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Okay, and this is your very first year in four
age right?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yes, I this is my first year. But my brothers.
But my brothers they as they show, they also show goats.
So I did pee wee for a while.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Okay, So what what was your project for this year?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
My projects were Nigerian Dworff and pygmy goats and the
Horseless horse project.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Okay, so let's talk about the goats first. So how
much work was that.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
You? Well, we don't have we take them home every year,
so you don't have to train them as much as
you do with market goats because market goats are completely
new to the fair, so they don't really know how
to walk or show. But our goats, since the show
every year, they know a lot. How to show. But

(01:26):
our baby goats they need a lot more training. But
in the shows they don't. They don't walk. We just
carry them since they're too little to walk. Okay, but
they go against other baby goats, so they don't really,
so it's not it's kind of more of a competition.
But my baby, my baby goat lot Taste, she.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Got third, So yeah, third, that's that's impressive in your
first year. Right.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
And then my other goat, she's not a baby, but
her name is Panela, she got second.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
So Penelope, we got you a second place. Yes, that's
pretty impressive for your first fair, don't you think. Yeah,
so you're pretty happy.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, I'm pretty happy about it.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah, wow, that's that. Obviously your work paid off.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, I think it really did.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
It did. So what was the horse project you talked about?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
It's a special interest project. Okay, it's more of like
you do a book, but you also make like a
poster about it and go to a special like it's
an it like an individual project. But me and my
friend went to the fair, the state fair for it.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
You went to the state fair.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, but we didn't win anything, but.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
You still went to the state fair. That's pretty neat exciting,
wasn't it.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, But in the middle of our demonstration the lights
went out.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Uh oh? And did they give you a second chance?

Speaker 2 (03:00):
We just kept going during you just kept going yep.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
All right, Well that's okay. So in the Horse Project,
did you just did you have to learn about horses?

Speaker 2 (03:10):
And yeah, I pretty much knew all of it because
I ride horses, but there were some well there were
some things that I needed to complete to finish the book.
I did learn a little bit more, like of more
parts of the horse and than I knew before. And

(03:33):
that's a lot. I didn't have to know all of them,
but I needed to know a lot of them to
be able to complete my book.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
So you said you ride a horse already, So what
kind of horse?

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Quarter horses?

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Quarter horses? What's their name?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Well, there's a ton of different horses that I ride,
but the one i've the one that I ride the
most is Freedom. And then I have a pony at home.
She's just more of a pet, but her name is Mollie.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Okay, So Molly's your pony? Yeah at home, milks, that's Sneeze.
That's great. So one of the things, So you've been
it's a fair all week, right, and I imagine you've
tried a little bit of fair food, haven't you.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah, do you have a Have you found a favorite
place on a fair?

Speaker 2 (04:23):
I have a couple favorite places. I like the milk stand.
I like snow cones, and I like cheese curds.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Well, that's all right. So so the milk stand is
right down it's the Dairy Farmers, and it's really cold,
isn't it. Yeah, that's really good milk. Yeah. So so
those are your favorite places on the fair grounds for food?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah. I also like the pork producers too.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Pork Producers. That's pretty good sandwich, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:52):
How about rides? Have you had any chance to ride
rides this week?

Speaker 2 (04:56):
No, not yet, but we probably are going to do
be them soon because we like to ride the rides
after we show our animals, just because it's way easier.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, not so much pressure. All the work's kind of
behind you, right, Yeah. Do you have a favorite ride
you're looking forward to getting on?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
I like the Scrambler.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
The Scrambler, Yeah, it sounds like a lot of fun,
it really it is. You probably want to do that
right after you eat those cheese curds. No, No, so
for somebody nine years old, because your family was already
into it. But if you if there's another youngster out
there who's listening and they're thinking about why should I

(05:39):
be in four h Do you think it's a good
thing to be in.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yes, I think it is because it's a good experience
even if you don't win. And if you're not really
into livestock, then there's also the option to do special interest.
There's a lot of different things you can do in
special interest, Like you can also make rockets, you can

(06:03):
do stuff like vet and you can't. You can do
stuff with animals, but not actually own animals, like a
poster about them. So that's what I kind of did
with the horseless Horse project.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
That sounds pretty neat. You're you're a great spokesperson for
four h Did you know that? No, Yeah, you are.
You're very I'm very impressed, Reagan. So I appreciate you
stopping by the podcast studio, and you know your friends,
you can tell them that they can hear this podcast

know that?

Speaker 2 (06:42):

Speaker 1 (06:43):
