Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
premium only story. We hope you like it. He yo, Hello,
(00:23):
I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
to over four hundred stories written just for you. Our
Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only. Zack
is a Premium member from Manchester in the UK, and
he would like a story with a reticulated python and
a kraken. Don't forget to listen to the animal facts
(00:46):
after the story to learn more about these creatures. For now,
it's time to sit back and get comfy, because it's
time to begin Cappy Bara Island. Zack had been swimming
for two days when he finally spotted land. He wasn't
desperate or lost. Reticulated pythons like himself could swim for
(01:10):
a long time without tiring, but he was growing hungry
and hoped the island might provide some food for him.
Wriggling up onto the beach, Zak discovered a small forest
before him the other side of a sandy beach. This
seemed the obvious place to head for until he heard
(01:30):
voices coming from his right. The beach ended in rocks
in that direction, so whoever was speaking was somewhere on
the other side. Slithering up and over the rocks was
no trouble for a python, but Zak was surprised by
what he saw on the other side, a small village
(01:51):
made up of wooden huts built along the back of
the beach. In front of the huts, lying on the
sand was a group of cappy bars. What luck, Zach
thought and called a greeting. Good morning, lovely day, isn't it.
The cappy bar has yelped, surprised to see a stranger.
(02:15):
Who are you, the largest cappy bara asked, and how
did you get here? I'm Zach, the python replied, as
he wriggled up more of his body from the far
side of the rocks, and I swam say. You don't
have any food, do you? I'm ever so hungry. The
(02:35):
cappy bar has muttered between themselves, not quite sure as
to what to make of this enormous snake. At last,
the largest of the cappy barers spoke again. I'm Rebecca,
she said. It just so happens that we're waiting for
some food right now. If you're willing to, we shall
(02:55):
allow you to wait with us. That's very kind of you,
Zack said, joining them upon the warm sand. Is some
one bringing the food from somewhere on the island. Oh no,
Rebecca replied, Only cocoa nuts grow here and they're no
good for us. So we have our food delivered by boat.
(03:18):
See here it comes now. She pointed out to sea,
and sure enough Zack could just about see a sailing ship.
It's our mango delivery, Rebecca said, with a grin. We
love mangoes, and the best ones come from the mainland.
As long as the boat gets here in one piece.
(03:38):
Of course, Zack liked a juicy mango himself, But what
does she mean by get here in one piece? It
didn't take long for his question to be answered. As
the ship neared the water around it began to bubble,
and three enormous tentacles erupted from the water to wrap
(03:59):
themselves around it. Zach watched in disbelief as the ship's
crew lowered a small rowing boat and leapt inside, and
they were just in time. The mighty tentacles crushed the ship,
splintering the wood, and pulled it down into the ocean's depths,
leaving only a few fragments of timber bobbing upon the surface.
(04:25):
What just happened, Zach asked. As the rowing boat began
the long return journey home cracken, Rebecca sighed, it gets
about half of the ships that come this way. Sudden
squeals of joy erupted amongst the capybaras as a single
(04:45):
crate could be seen drifting into shore. They dashed into
the shallows and hauled the crate ashore to allow the
mangoes to spill out. So this happens a lot, Zach said,
as he was passed one of the fruits. You were
lucky to get just one crate of mangoes. Not that lucky,
(05:07):
nodded Rebeccah. You'd best eat it quick. What's the rush,
asked Zach, them, said Rebeccah, gesturing with her nose fruit pirates.
