Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
premium only story. We hope you like it. Hey yo, Hello,
(00:23):
I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
to over four hundred stories written just for you. Our
Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only. Bjorn
is a premium member from the u K and he
would like a story with a wolfhound, a leopard gecko,
a tiger shark, and a t rex. Don't forget to
(00:46):
listen to the animal facts after the story to learn
more about these creatures. For now, it's time to sit
back and get comfy, because it's time to begin Tall
Street Zoo. There was a street in Bjorn's town that
he'd never been down before. It was narrow and not
very long, and there only appeared to be one house
(01:09):
on it at the far end. Byorn would look at
it every time he passed, but nobody else ever seemed
to notice it, just him. On one occasion, Beyonn spied
the street's name covered over by a sprawling laurel bush.
It said Tall Street. This was an odd name, Bjorn thought,
(01:32):
for the street didn't look in the slightest bit tall.
Many weeks passed until Byorn got the opportunity to actually
go down Tall Street. He was passing the end of
the street when he saw a letter lying upon the pavement.
Picking it up, he read the address beside the stamp.
It said tall Street zoo. Tall Street Zoo, said Bjorn,
(01:59):
looking to the single house at the street's end. There's
no zoo. But what should he do with the letter?
He didn't think it would be right to put it
back on the ground, so instead he found himself entering
the street and heading towards the house. It looked old,
with lots of mismatched windows and chimneys, and much of
(02:22):
the place was hidden by large flowering bushes and leafy trees.
Over a wooden gate beyond could see a wide letter
box in the center of the front door. So he
unlatched the gate and picked his way along the garden
path between drooping corn flowers and red hot pokers. As
he raised the envelope up to slide it through the
(02:44):
letter box, the door clicked and opened, revealing an elderly
woman on the other side. Oh what a darling you are,
she said to Bejorn as she took the letter. You
postmen are getting younger and younger. I'm not a postman,
protested Bjorn. I found it, did you now? Said the woman.
(03:10):
She was very short, barely standing taller than Bjorn was. Well,
that makes you a very kind and considerate individual, and
that sort of thoughtfulness deserves a reward. Come with me.
She turned and walked away into the house. Bjorn wasn't
(03:31):
sure if he should be going into a stranger's home,
but he realized she was a small, elderly lady. What
harm could it do, so in he went, closing the
door behind him. Um, why did the envelope mention a
zoo when there isn't a zoo here? He asked as
(03:52):
he caught up with the woman. No zoo, she repeated,
that's not right. There's always been a zoo here. Beyorn
stopped at the entrance to the kitchen. Then why haven't
I heard of it before? I'm sure I would have done,
he said, Because it's a private zu, said the woman.
(04:15):
She picked up a patterned tin and removed the lid,
revealing a stash of homemade chocolate biscuits. Take two, she insisted,
before asking do you have a name. It's Beyonn, he
said through a mouthful of biscuit. I'm Ethel, said the
woman as the lid was replaced on the tin. She
(04:39):
was considering something as she did so, would you like
to see the zoo? Yes, please, nodded Beyorn with enthusiasm.
I'd love to. I suppose I could, Ethel said, turning
to the door to the garden. It's a long time
since they had a visit. If you'd like to hear more,
